Sony releases TransferJet wireless Memory Stick in Japan, taking pre-orders in the US
Oh Sony, you just like to tease us, don't you? Two weeks after a brief mention at CES, Japan's been given the introductory taste of this tech giant's first ever TransferJet wireless Memory Stick. Meanwhile, Sony Style US has quietly added the same card for pre-order at $99.99 and cites February 8th as the possible launch date -- a slight delay from Sony's promised January launch. If the party's big enough, this TransferJet close-proximity radio technology could signal the death of cables and bulky card readers, but you'll still need compatible devices to work that magic on this memory stick. Sony will sure need more than just a few cameras to get us to make-dot-believe in this new ecosystem.
Sony's TransferJet-packin' Memory Stick Duo hits the FCC
If what we saw at CEATEC is any indication, we can all look forward to a future where damn near every new piece of Sony kit that we lay our hands on will support its fledgling wireless technology, TransferJet. As you might have guessed, we've been keeping our eyes on the usual channels in vain hopes of finding any gear sporting the new standard. So, what do we have here? Our friends at Sony Insider have spotted FCC paperwork for the MS-JX8G, which is apparently a Memory Stick Duo that sports the protocol -- and which (hopefully) means that someday soon we'll be able to grandfather TransferJet into all of our existing Memory Stick Duo-supporting devices. Pretty clever, Sony!

Sony's finally getting really, really serious about the Memory Stick. The company is launching a hefty 16GB version of its loved / hated MS Duo. There's not much else. It's a Memory Stick Duo. It's 16GB. It will be available in March for $300. Enjoy.
Pink leads trio of new PSP colors in Japan
Sony's pulling a Nintendo. Hoping to boost holiday sales, the company will parade around three new PSP colors in Japan.On November 22, Sony will release a pink PSP, along with matching PlayStation 2 -- also released in Europe. Pink will be followed by silver on December 14, and then by metallic blue a week later. All three colors will retail for ¥20,790 ($178) and come packaged with an AC adaptor and battery pack (no extras included).The pink PSP will be accompanied by a series of accessories designed by popular Japanese fashion brand Samantha Thavasa, including a leather handbag with UMD and memory stick pockets (¥15,750; $135), rabbit fur strap (¥8,925;$76), heart charm strap (¥8,925; $76) and tote bag with detachable pouch (¥26,250; $224). $224?! Well fellas, we just pray that your lady isn't a fashion-forward gamer...
Possible Sony Alpha DSLR specs revealed
Australia's Digital Photography Blog is reporting that an anonymous source has emailed them detailed specs of Sony's upcoming DSLR, which -- if accurate -- show that the company's first foray into this product category will sport a 10.2 megapixel CCD and go by the name Alpha 100. As we already knew, this model will be compatible with existing Konica Minolta lenses as well as some 20 new lenses that Sony plans to release over the next year, but the information revealed today would seem to flesh out all of the remaining details concerning features, pricing, and availability that had previously been unknown. DPB's tipster claims that the 100 will rock an anti-reflective 2.5-inch, 230,000 pixel LCD, in-body Super SteadyShot image stabilization, maximum ISO of 1600, nine-point auto focus, CompactFlash support (but oddly enough, your MemoryStick Duo cards will only work with the included adapter), a reported 750-shot battery, and about a million different shooting modes and scene settings. If we are to believe what this mystery "insider" says, you'll be able to pick up your very own Alpha next month for around $1,000, sans lens.[Via Let's Go Digital, thanks Pascal V.]
Is this the Vaio from Sony's teaser campaign?
Don't wanna wait for Sony to complete their teaser campaign to peep that Vaio they're trying to generate some buzz about? Don't worry, jkOnTheRun has got you covered (well, maybe). According to site founder James Kendrick, a "reader who wishes to remain anonymous" sent him a number of pictures of this supposed ultraportable Vaio, which do indeed feature all of the disparate components visible in Sony's brief Flash movies. Besides portraying the device as a UMPC-style tablet with sliding QWERTY keyboard, one of the pictures clearly shows the words "Bluetooth," "WLAN," and "WWAN" on the screen's bezel when viewed full-size. We can also make out that fingerprint scanner from the teaser campaign, as well as a MemoryStick Duo slot and a "capture" button, although if that Motion Eye doesn't swivel, it won't make much of a camera. Of course these pictures, even if genuine, reveal nothing about the actual guts of the machine, so Sony still has several important details such as processor types/speeds, operating system (a return to PalmOS, perhaps?) and storage system/capacities to hold over our heads. Unlocking Sony's Memory Stick media kit
Following the Sony media briefing, we were so thoroughly underwhelmed by the company's PSP projections that we completely forgot about the tiny PSP-formatted media kit (32 MB Memory Stick) that was handed to us at the beginning of the event -- and promptly shoved deep into our pocket. Until now. The content includes:Trailers Gangs of London (2:16) - Comic book stylized intro followed by GTA clone in-game footage; promises: bonus strategy game; pub mini-games (darts, pool, etc.); and "gameshare levels" that are different on every PSP. God of War II (PS2) (2:08) - Tons of in-game footage. Like the first GOW, only more brutal. "The End Begins... February 2007" SOCOM: Combined Assault (PS2) (0:30) -Same old SOCOM.
