We know that you've been barely able to sleep since the new miCARD memory card format was announced -- who would be the first manufacturer to get these out the door, you wondered -- so you can finally rest easy with the news that Pretec is showing off its own version of the multi-functional little wafers (pictured larger than actual size, of course) at Computex in Taipei. The company's S-Diamond line already tops off at an impressive 8GB (with theoretical capacities of 2TB, but we're not holding our breath), and like the flood of other miCARDs soon to hit the market, will work with regular SD/MMC-capable devices through the use of an adapter. Pretec still isn't being forthcoming with any pricing or release info on these, but since there's no miCARD-specific hardware on the market yet anyway, we doubt that many of you care.[Via Everything USB]

Leave it to Brando -- leaders of the 'alternative' USB lifestyle -- to offer the discerning consumer a card reader shaped like a pig. As to why someone would buy this four-slot model instead of something a little less tacky, the e-tailer helpfully notes "its piggy-like design which is cute and its weight is light so that easy for storage and also as a decoration on working desk." Thanks guys, and while we're quite satisfied with the reader built into our 24-inch monitor, anyone sporting a pair of pink pig PC speakers will surely appreciate this $10 swine.[Via TRFJ]

  • DIY "adapter" for Memory Stick PRO Duo cards

The problem with all of these newfangled, fingernail-size memory card formats is that most require an adapter for use in standard card readers -- an adapter that many people lose within seconds of tearing open the packaging. Well luckily for you PSP owners out there, Wikihow has a quick and easy tutorial on building your own "adapter" for Memory Stick PRO Duo cards, and like many of the best mods we've seen, this one is super cheap. All you need to get your Duo card to work in a regular Memory Stick card reader is a paper clip and a strip of scotch tape -- a five cent project, at most -- and as the above picture should indicate, you're really just taping the clip to the card as a de facto handle. The perils here, of course, are that using too much tape could cause the contraption to get jammed up inside the reader, while not enough of the sticky stuff may leave you with a lost card. As usual, we take no responsibility for any broken cards or readers that may result from this modification; we just report the news, it's up to you to gauge your own handiness and perform the standard risk-reward analysis.[Via PSP Fanboy]

From the city that brought us such delicious items like dim sum and old school Chow Yun-Fat movies, we now have what may be the most amazing memory card reader in history. In fact, one might even say that its card reading fu is better than yours. This reader supports 52 types of memory cards (switch 'em up every week!) and also features an integrated Bluetooth adapter. As you can see in the semi-annoying animated gif at right, it comes in "multi moody colours" -- is that like a mood ring?

  • Samsung's 2GB MMCmicro cards announced, industry yawns

Samsung just laid their 2GB MMCmicro cards on the table. These little slivers of NAND-based flash memory are said to be the "fastest and highest capacity mobile phone" memory cards available... once they uh, actually ship. Come on Sammy, we're still waiting on your 1GB cards to hit the market, not to mention devices which use them before getting too worked up over this, mkay?
