Verizon testing unlimited mobile-to-mobile plans -- regardless of carrier
Sprint's been doing this for some time, but it looks like Verizon is now toying around with the concept of carrier-agnostic mobile-to-mobile plans (it's a mouthful, we know) for at least some of its customers. Specifically, Big Red's trialing such plans in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and "select markets" in Texas, Tennessee, and Florida ranging from $60 to $130 for individual and family plans ranging from 450 to 2000 minutes; notably, both voice and text buckets are bottomless for mobile-to-mobile. The plans are only slated to run through the end of the year, but we imagine that if they're popular enough, they'll be extended -- and hopefully expanded. [Thanks, Kal and everyone who sent this in]
T-Mobile retools offerings, adds new family plan and more unlimited M2M
T-Mobile's always been known for aggressively pricing its plans against the other nationals, and that trend continues today with the introduction of a new $89.99 myFaves family plan with 1800 minutes, the addition of 500 anytime minutes to its $99.99 and $129.99 family plans, a $10 reduction in price on a couple other plans, and -- perhaps the most relevant new feature for many customers -- unlimited mobile-to-mobile on every individual plan $49.99 and up. Not a huge change, granted, but it's pretty rare to get something for nothing, so we're going to take what we're being offered and keep our mouths shut.[Via TmoNews]
Verizon changing some plan names, gets Alltel in-network calling
We've been able to independently verify Boy Genius Report's claim that Verizon will be changing the name of IN Calling to the simpler "Mobile to Mobile" (and we can also kick in that INpulse will become just "Prepaid") on February 15. That alone isn't terribly awesome, but more importantly, Alltel numbers are now included as in-network calls for Verizon customers. Alltel customers, meanwhile, have to wait for the merger to complete. Sorry, folks!And here's a little something for the data fiends: the venerable BroadbandAccess laptop plan becomes Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband (there's a mouthful for you) this coming Monday. That's an incredible upgrade from four to ten syllables, so we should all be thanking our lucky stars for that.
Helio adds unlimited M2M option to all plans
Helio, the "don't call us a phone company" phone company that sells lifestyle instead of tech, has just added mobile-to-mobile (M2M) calling either as an option or a standard feature on all its plans. If you're an "All In" member of Helio's network, you will now receive free and unlimited M2M calling as part of your package at no extra cost. Outside of being a contractually-bound All-In member, Helio also offers the M2M service as an a la carte option for an extra $5 per month. So, get your buddies and family members on Helio and chat forever if you so choose. That is, if you're not typing your thumbs off with text messages or jamming out.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
