Courtesy Sony's E3 conference, we have our second look at Mortal Kombat X, though unlike the announcement trailer, this vignette is chock full of new fighters, brutal special attacks and the copious gore fans have come to expect from NetherRealm's flagship series. [Image: WBIE]

When asked about the tech behind the upcoming Mortal Kombat X, series co-creator Ed Boon tweeted that the game, like its predecessor, will be running on Unreal Engine 3. "[Mortal Kombat X will be] using our highly self-customized version of Unreal 3," Boon tweeted. "60fps 1080p!" Mortal Kombat X is slated to hit the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC at some point during 2015. [Image: WBIE]

Welcome to Joystiq Weekly, a "too long; didn't read" of each week's biggest stories, reviews and original content. Each category's top story is introduced with a reactionary gif, because moving pictures aren't just for The Daily Prophet. E3 doesn't technically start until June 10, but with all of this week's announcements and E3 trailers, you wouldn't really know it. Forza Horizon 2 will let you drive recklessly later this year, Homefront is due for a return in Homefront: The Revolution, and the thinly-veiled Mortal Kombat X tease is finally over. And that's just the early stuff - we're about to get trampled with news and hands-on demonstrations as the convention itself kicks off next week. Don't worry though, we'll survive by channeling Simba's light-footed evasive maneuvers. Just ... y'know, without the tragic loss immediately preceding our exercise. You don't have to stick around and watch us warm up though - this week's highlights are waiting for you after the break. There are release dates for The Witcher 3 and Disney Fantasia: Music Evolved, reviews for 1,001 Spikes and Tomodachi Life, and an exploration of combat in Homefront: The Revolution. It's all awaiting you neat and orderly-like after the jump!

An official teaser for Mortal Kombat X landed on YouTube this morning, which raised as many questions as it answered. Yes, a new installment in the ultra-violent series from Netherrealm Studios is on track for release sometime in 2015. Yes, it's headed to the PlayStation 4, PS3, Xbox One, 360 and PC. And yes, that's Wiz Khalifa bringing his quick-witted lyrics to the original sound track. But what can we say about the game itself? Some of the teaser video almost has an in-game feel to it, with plausible graphics, fantastical moves (including the use of weapons from the environment) and hints of gruesome Sniper Elite-style forensic sequences -- but it's probably all just conceptual at this point. In any case, have a gander for yourself, and be advised that the video isn't for youngsters. But hey, after nine MK titles, you probably guessed that already.

Amazon's UK storefront has posted listings of a "Mortal Kombat X" for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC platforms. The listings are void of description and imagery, but list Warner Bros. Interactive as publisher, and estimate a release date of 2015. Mortal Kombat series creator Ed Boon has been teasing something over the past few weeks, counting down days via images posted to his Twitter account. That countdown is set to end tomorrow, so we should know more soon. [Image: Warner Bros. Interactive]
