While I wait for Movie Peg to make a little doohickey for my iPhone 4, Dan Provost and Thomas Gerhardt have been working on a doohickey of their own, called the Glif. It will allow you to prop your iPhone 4 in a variety of positions for reading, typing with a Bluetooth keyboard, watching video, and so on. The neat part is that it's also a tripod mount. Since the iPhone 4 shoots HD video, you can attach it to your tripod to shoot and then prop it up on a desk to review your footage. Neat, eh? The guys are looking for funding to get an initial run produced, and they're looking for supporters. For US$20, you'll essentially pre-order a Glif while pushing them towards their goal of $10,000. (We don't know what happens if you donate and they fail to reach their goal.) It's a cool-looking device. Good luck, guys. Click here to watch a promo video. [Via Daring Fireball]

  • TUAW review and giveaway: MoviePeg for iPad

Last April, I reviewed the original MoviePeg for the iPhone 3GS. It was a super little stand that I used every day. Today, I'm happy to have spent a week with the MoviePeg stand for iPad, and I'm even happier to give my test stand away to a lucky TUAW reader.* Design The MoviePeg is a no-frills, deceptively useful stand for the iPhone 3G, 3GS, and now the iPad. The iPad version actually contains two perfectly shaped chunks of rubber (OK, thermoplastic elastomer) that fit over the iPad's bezel and provide ample support for its backside. They're firm but not rigid, and they come in two colors: Pitch Black and the limited edition Clockwork Orange. What's clever is the little slot that allows them to fit together for travel or safe keeping. There's really no more to them than there needs to be, and even the iPad-sized edition will fit into a jeans pocket. %Gallery-98905%

OK, so it's actually a chunk of thermoplastic elastomer. That made for a poor title, though. The MoviePeg is an inexpensive, ridiculously useful iPhone stand from magneticNorth. It's been my companion for a week, and frankly, I couldn't love it more. Design The MoviePeg is a small rectangle with a notch cut into it that perfectly accommodates the shell of an iPhone 3G or 3Gs.* One side of the notch is flat, while the other side curves to fit the iPhone's curved back. It weighs next to nothing and fits in my bag's smallest pocket. They're available in six colors with clever names like Yellow Submarine and Soylent Green. I played it safe with Black Rain. %Gallery-91860% *It can hold a 1st generation iPhone, but "...doesn't look great," according to magneticNorth. Additionally, it'll hold an iPod touch in the horizontal position but not vertical. An iPad version is in the works, as are model-specific iPod versions.

Here's a nifty little iPhone stand for you. MoviePeg is basically just a piece of plastic with a notch cut into it that slides over an iPhone. Its design makes it the simplest iPhone stand I've ever seen. But as Apple has proven, simplicity works. I used to think that I would never have a need for an iPhone stand, but then I started using recipe apps and I can tell you the stands come in handy in the kitchen. MoviePeg is especially handy because its solid body lacks ridges and is a snap to wipe flour or egg batter from. MoviePeg works in landscape of horizontal mode and comes in six colors. At £5 (about $7.50US), if you need a durable iPhone stand, MoviePeg is a no-brainer. [via Wired]
