  • Nokia Software Updater adds love for Windows 7

It's still in beta, but Nokia is feeling so confident about its new Windows 7-compatible version of Nokia Software Updater that it's coming right out and saying that "this release candidate is almost ready to go live for all users and we only intend to keep it in Beta Labs for a few weeks." Besides the all-important compatibility bump, the latest version of NSU also beefs up the robustness of the USB connection to the device (pretty important if you're interested in not bricking the phone -- something we've had happen before) and rolls out the changelog text in additional languages. It's available for download right now -- and next, Nokia, all you've got to do is finally make a Mac OS version of this thing.

Nokia's update elves have been hard at work getting improvements out to all kinds lately and today's lucky recipients are the N78 and N82. N78 (v20.149.051.1) gets a new version of Nokia Maps, and some speed boost in the UI department -- which is always appreciated. N82 (v31.0.016) apparently gets has User Data Preservation (which should ensure this update won't wipe out your personal settings) and some other unknowns, though All About Symbian figure it's mostly bug fixes. Update's available via Nokia Software Update, but before you hop-to, follow the various reads and vias for a full breakdown of what's new.[Via Symbian-Guru, here and here]Update: UDP is NOT new in this release as pointed out by Steve Litchfield (All About Symbian) and Will. Many thanks.Read - N82 update detailsRead - N78 update details

  • Nokia's oldie-but-goodie N95-1 gets another firmware update

If you've got a Nokia handset enjoying life in its golden years, it's comforting to know that the mothership hasn't forgotten you -- at least, not completely. Owners of the original N95 -- like seriously original, N95-1 style -- are enjoying the spoils of a new firmware update, though "spoils" might be a bit of an exaggeration since the package is being described as "minor." Better than a slap in the face or getting run over by a dump truck, we suppose.[Via Symbian-Guru and Symbian-Freak]
