You betcha, and it's embedding a SandForce SF-1222 controller in its N Series line. That controller has proven to be the go-to one for loads of solid state drives, but Zalman's joining the party a touch late. Unfortunately for it, the MSRPs affixed to the 64GB ($169) and 128GB ($289) versions aren't exactly class-leading, but the benchmarking gurus over at <i>Legit Reviews</i> took it upon themselves to test a 128GB model anyway. After running the gauntlet, the conclusions drawn were fairly predictable: scores were right in line with every other SandForce drive they had tested in recent months, with words like "speedy, resilient, and reliable" detailing the drive. Reviewers did point out that the pricing situation would likely hinder adoption rates, and it's still unclear if a company more closely associated with cooling accessories and cases can stake a claim in the storage realm. Hit the source link for the full skinny if you're edging closer to pulling the trigger.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/29/zalmans-sandforce-based-n-series-ssd-drive-gets-reviewed-patte/">Zalman's SandForce-based N Series SSD drive gets reviewed, patted on the back</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 29 Nov 2010 18:01:00 EST. So it's been six months since ASUS announced its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/02/asus-debuts-3d-gamer-display-and-bang-and-olufsen-icepowered-n-ser/">new N Series laptops</a>, but who's counting? Okay, we are, but there's good news, at least for the dear Brits -- the 15.6-inch N53JN and the 17.3-inch N73JN are now available in the UK. The N53JN will range from &pound;649.99 to &pound;999 ($1,005 - $1,545) and has an impressive array of specs, including a Core i5 CPU, NVIDIA GeForce GT325/415M graphics with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/topic/nividia-optimus">Optimus</a>, 320GB of storage, a Blu-ray drive and USB 3.0 ports. The wider &pound;1,099 N73JN is pretty much identically configured, but has 640GB of storage (with two 320GB drives). However, ASUS is hoping the major lure of these systems will be its new SonicMaster sound technology, which has been developed with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/icepower">Bang &amp; Olufsen ICEpower</a>. The press release claims the audio feature is not a "gimmick" and that ASUS's "Golden Ear" team toiled over the audio fidelity...for months we assume. There's some bold assertions, but we guess there's really no knowing what these bad boys really sound like until you take one home and pump up the volume. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-n53jn-and-n73jn/">ASUS N53JN and N73JN</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-n53jn-and-n73jn/#3292681"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/asusnseries1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-n53jn-and-n73jn/#3292682"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/asusnseries2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-n53jn-and-n73jn/#3292683"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/asusnseries3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-n53jn-and-n73jn/#3292684"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/asusnseries4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-n53jn-and-n73jn/#3292685"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/asusnseries5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/24/asus-n53jn-and-n73jn-with-blu-ray-and-sonicmaster-sound-now-avai/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>ASUS N53JN and N73JN with Blu-ray and SonicMaster sound now available in the UK</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/24/asus-n53jn-and-n73jn-with-blu-ray-and-sonicmaster-sound-now-avai/">ASUS N53JN and N73JN with Blu-ray and SonicMaster sound now available in the UK</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 24 Aug 2010 17:21:00 EST. Nokia's newly appointed <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/11/nokia-reshuffles-management-looking-for-gold/">Mobile Solutions chief</a>, Anssi Vanjoki, has penned an impassioned post over at <em>Nokia Conversations</em> today where he sets out his perspective on the company's current position and future challenges. Describing the Finnish phone maker as "a challenger now," rather than an incumbent, Vanjoki wants to introduce a "laser focus on quality," with his two central aims being to reclaim Nokia's reputation for high-end devices and to re-energize a flagging fan base. He specifically namedrops Ricky Cadden -- who yesterday <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/01/symbian-guru-shuts-down-says-nokia-is-losing-hard/">shut down <em>Symbian-Guru</em> because he'd lost faith with the company</a> -- and clearly considers grassroots support like that an important aspect of how Nokia's success will be judged.<br />
<br />
As to the actual software front, Anssi confirms that the N8 will be the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/23/nokia-n8-to-be-final-symbian-device-in-n-series-all-meego-from/">final Symbian^3 handset</a> in the N-Series, but describes a Symbian^<em>4 </em>device in that family as a "strong possibility," a note which he follows up with a wink (seriously). Symbian is apparently still Nokia's smartphone OS of choice -- no <a href="http://www.engadget.com/product/android">Androids</a> shall be found inside Nokia's hardware under Anssi's watch -- though MeeGo also earns a mention as the "awesome" platform for delivering "market-changing mobile computers." Just in case you were wondering, Anssi finishes off by telling us that these wondrous computers will be small enough to fit into your pocket -- though, sadly, he fails to specify exactly <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/12/vaio-p-doesnt-have-nothin-on-these-other-awesome-pocket-friend/">what sort of pocket</a> that might be.<br />

Whoa. Nokia's premier range of devices, the N Series, will bid adieu to the Symbian operating environment and go <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/meego">MeeGo</a> full time after the introduction of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/14/nokia-n8-preview/">N8</a>. That's what we've just heard directly from the Finnish horse's mouth. Nokia will naturally keep Symbian around -- of course there's a whole Symbian^4 to come -- but will utilize it on more mass market devices as it seeks to push smartphones further down the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/09/nokias-17-model-house-reveals-a-smokin-s-series-n9-meego/">product hierarchy</a>. So it's not necessarily bad news, as such, it means we'll likely see Symbian trickle down to handsets priced more like featurephones and less like miniaturized laptops. What it does mean, however, is that Nokia is pushing forward with its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/18/nokia-abandoning-s60-for-maemo-on-all-future-n-series-devices/">modernization plans</a>, and doing so more aggressively than previously thought. Which we consider to be a pretty awesome (and necessary) thing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/23/nokia-n8-to-be-final-symbian-device-in-n-series-all-meego-from/">Nokia N8 to be final Symbian N Series device, all MeeGo from here on out</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 23 Jun 2010 09:16:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Well, it was bound to happen: a flagship device released as a KIRF (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/04/keepin-it-real-fake-nokias-n8-beaten-to-release-by-knockoff/">for the second time</a>) <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/28/nokia-n8-to-launch-on-august-25-in-uk-according-to-local-store/">well ahead</a> of its official launch. Unfortunately, that's what happens when you <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/22/nokia-delays-symbian-3-investors-not-impressed/">delay</a> a product that already <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/23/nokias-symbian-3-flagship-handset-leaked/">leaked months in advance</a>. The $99.20 "N8-00" might share its name and stylings with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/n8">Nokia's imminent Symbian flagship</a> but that's where the similarities end. This Chinese N8 packs a 3.3-inch touchscreen (resistive, no doubt), a quad-band GSM radio, pair of VGA cameras (ha!), 2GB of MicroSD blah blah blah... hey, let's be honest, the specs don't really matter do they? This "Nseries" device, like all KIRFs, will be sold to poseurs who want to look the part before quickly discarding it for the next trend. Picture of the backside after the break.<br />

If you already believe the rumors that "Vasco" is the codename for Nokia's unannounced <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/11/nokia-n8-00-first-symbian-3-handset-with-12-megapixel-camera-7/">N8</a> flagship and that the N8 is the device <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/23/nokias-symbian-3-flagship-handset-leaked/">pictured above</a> then lean in, we've got a bit of news for you. A viral video for the "Nokia Vasco" has just wrapped according to cameraman Danny Gagatt's tweet above. That sets the expectation then, that the launch of what everyone expects to be Nokia's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/28/nokia-n8-00-gets-first-official-mention-with-symbian-3-and-nhd-d/">first Symbian^3 device</a> is just around the corner. Plausible since Gagatt's slip (since removed) tips The Mill -- the same visual effects company used by Nokia for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/10/nokia-n900-ad-suggests-a-history-of-mental-illness/">N900 nuthouse job</a>. Besides, it's almost <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/24/nokia-n8-being-announced-mid-april/">mid-April</a> so we expect things to get official right quick.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/05/nokia-vasco-viral-video-ready-n8-too/">Nokia Vasco viral video ready, N8 flagship too?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 05 Apr 2010 08:49:00 EST. Nokia's already <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/02/nokia-promises-to-take-symbian-user-interface-to-a-new-level-i/">tipped its hand</a> for the year Twenty Ten by publicly stating its intent to deliver a sleeker, more attractive, and faster Symbian UI; fewer nags; and at least <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/30/nokia-launching-only-one-maemo-device-in-2010/">one Maemo handset</a> before the year is done. What we've been missing though, are the details. While we still don't have the complete story, it is beginning to take shape according to alleged leaks received by <i>Tom's Guide</i>. First up is a new naming convention, something already telegraphed by Nokia's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/02/nokias-x6-follows-the-5800s-footsteps-while-the-x3-brings-ov/">Xseries launch</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/18/nokia-files-for-cseries-trademark-but-whats-it-for/">Cseries trademark</a>. According to the French language site, Nokia will end the use of monikers like XpressMusic or Classic as it simplifies around the following five ranges:
<ul>
    <li>C: voice-centric handsets.</li>
    <li>X: targeting youth, entertainment.</li>
    <li>E: business focused.</li>
    <li>N: high-end.</li>
    <li>S: limited editions.</li>
</ul>
<em>Tom's Guide</em> claims to be privy to 14 new models, a few of which it spilled the beans on today. Confused by Nokia's dual-platform, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/maemo5">Maemo 5</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/s605thedition">S60 5th Edition</a> smartphone choices? You're not alone. Fortunately, things are starting to become a bit more clear thanks to some loose-lipped members of Maemo's marketing team attending an official <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/n900">N900</a> meet-up in London last night. According to <i>The Really Mobile Project</i>, Nokia will drop S60 from all of its flagship N-series consumer devices in favor of Maemo. Apparently, Nokia has been pleasantly surprised by the enthusiastic response to the N900 OS even though the enthusiast package is not quite ready for mass-market appeal. Mind you, the transition won't be instantaneous as anyone with an N900 (and a clear mind) can attest -- the OS, services, and apps just can't compare to the mature S60 platform regardless of Maemo 5's superior user experience. As such, we'll continue to see N-Series handsets already in development pop with S60 on board alongside mass-market Maemo devices as <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/09/maemo-6-ui-concept-reveled-to-include-portrait-mode-capacitive/">the platform matures</a> to the point that Nokia can make the full switch by 2012. Assuming, of course, Nokia doesn't end up <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/13/nokia-rumored-to-be-eyeing-palm-buy-yet-again/">adding webOS</a> to its portfolio somewhere along the way.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update</strong>: The <em>Nokia Blog</em> has what it claims is an <a href="http://thenokiablog.com/2009/11/18/nokias-response-dropping-symbian-nseries-2012/">official response</a> from Nokia on this delicate matter. As you'd expect, Nokia says it remains "firmly committed to Symbian as our smartphone platform of choice." It then added this little gem: "Maemo is our software of choice for devices based on technology that you'd typically find inside a desktop computer. It delivers a different user experience and enables us to widen the market we can address." Perhaps you're even reading this on an ARM Cortex-A8 desktop PC right now?<br />

German site <em>NokiaPort</em> has rounded up a nice little cache of juicy Nokia details that it says is culled from "official information from Nokia, confirmed rumors and reputable sources of information," and while we can't personally vouch for most of what we're seeing here, it's all sounding reasonable enough -- and with Nokia World right around the corner, we figured this would be a grand opportunity to lay it out and see how the chips fall. First up, <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/Cseries/">Cseries</a> and <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/Xseries/">Xseries</a> are said to be presented at the show, with the first Xseries model being an upgraded version of the just-launched <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/5530XpressMusic/">5530 XpressMusic</a> with 3G thrown in, probably spelling doom for the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/5800/">5800</a> -- in other words, Xseries is very likely a wholesale rebranding of the XpressMusic line, which totally makes sense. Speaking of touchscreens and Nokia branding, the site says that we'll see another touchscreen Nseries model to keep the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/N97/">N97</a> company before the year's out, followed by Eseries' first S60 5th Edition model in 2010. Coincidentally, they've got a part of a supposed new touch model pictured on the site (see above), though we're not clear on what we're seeing. In the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/Maemo/">Maemo</a> department, the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/N900/">N900</a> is likely to be the only Maemo 5 device for the better part of the year, though there's apparently a mysterious N920 already making the rounds in the Espoo campus.<br />
<br />
As technologies go, xenon flashes are apparently on the outs with Nokia -- better hang onto your phones, <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/N82/">N82</a> owners -- while capacitive screens should start to take hold. Samsung has already proven that S60 works just fine and dandy with a capacitive display on the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/i8910/">i8910</a>, so we're stoked to see where Nokia takes it. Finally, OMAP3 cores are said to be working their way into the lineup following a <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/CortexA8/">Cortex A8</a>-based introduction in the N900; Nokia has historically lagged its competition as processing power goes, so it'll be great to see them start to match up with the Pres and the iPhones of the world -- at least as far as raw computational might goes, anyhow.<br />

In the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Maemo/">Maemo</a> department, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/N900/">N900</a> is likely to be the only Maemo 5 device for the better part of the year, though there's apparently a mysterious N920 already making the rounds in the Espoo campus.<br />
<br />
As technologies go, xenon flashes are apparently on the outs with Nokia -- better hang onto your phones, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/N82/">N82</a> owners -- while capacitive screens should start to take hold. Samsung has already proven that S60 works just fine and dandy with a capacitive display on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/i8910/">i8910</a>, so we're stoked to see where Nokia takes it. Finally, OMAP3 cores are said to be working their way into the lineup following a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CortexA8/">Cortex A8</a>-based introduction in the N900; Nokia has historically lagged its competition as processing power goes, so it'll be great to see them start to match up with the Pres and the iPhones of the world -- at least as far as raw computational might goes, anyhow.<br />

It's still hard to believe that Nokia's already upstaging the N97 with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/n97mini">N97 mini</a> just two months after the big guy shipped, but here we are, staring at the FCC documentation. There's not much to go on here besides this label-location drawing, which is marked with a 1:1 scale -- allowing us to set our regular N97 down next to it and show you just how little Nokia achieved with all that development money. Check it after the break, along with another pic of the mini the inimitable Eldar Murtazin just posted to his blog.<br />

The N97 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/22/nokia-n97-review-a-tale-of-two-bloggers/">might not be everyone's cup of tea</a>, but if you're still tempted to pay the $700 entry fee, you could sweeten the deal by throwing in a free-ish laptop -- Dell's currently bundling the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/13/dells-vostro-a860-yours-for-a-song-and-379/">Vostro A860</a> with Nokia's latest for $730 after a discount coupon. Flip that sucker on eBay for anywhere close to its $379 list price plus some "handling fees" and you might just come close to paying a reasonable price for the N97. Well, sort of reasonable. Those still interested should hurry past the read link, as the full discount will only be available through tomorrow or until stocks last.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/30/nokia-n97-and-dell-vostro-bundled-for-730-make-one-mistake-ge/">Nokia N97 and Dell Vostro bundled for $730: make one mistake, get one free</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 30 Jun 2009 18:01:00 EST. It kind of figures, right? Famed <em>American Idol</em> judge Simon Cowell sports a phone crafted by a Finnish handset maker. We know, that's not quite England, but it's close enough. In tonight's episode, he proceeded to tell the iPhone that it simply "wasn't the complete package" while alluding to the lack of copy / paste, the T-Mobile G1 that it was "too young to be taken seriously" and the BlackBerry Storm that it just "pushed his buttons the wrong way." Ultimately, Paula, Randy and even Kara were coaxed into agreeing, sending the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/N95+8GB/">N95 8GB</a> to Hollywood for one more shot at stardom. Sigh.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/screen-grabs-nokia-n95-8gb-is-simon-cowells-american-idol/">Screen Grabs: Nokia N95 8GB is Simon Cowell's American Idol</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/screen-grabs-nokia-n95-8gb-is-simon-cowells-american-idol/#1320467"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/screen-grab-simon-nokia_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/screen-grabs-nokia-n95-8gb-is-simon-cowells-american-idol/#1320468"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/screen-grab-simon-nokia_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/screen-grabs-nokia-n95-8gb-is-simon-cowells-american-idol/#1320469"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/screen-grab-simon-nokia_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/27/screen-grabs-nokia-n95-8gb-is-simon-cowells-american-idol/">Screen Grabs: Nokia N95 8GB is Simon Cowell's American Idol</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 27 Jan 2009 21:59:00 EST. Have a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/symbian/">Symbian S60</a>-based handset in your pocket, do you? If you've a fever that can only be cured by more <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/21/c64-games-coming-to-wiis-virtual-console/">Commodore 64</a>, you're in luck. The FrodoS60 application brings C64 emulation right to your N95, N96 or any other S60 mobile, and the updated version (1.5) even includes accelerometer support. Have a <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/category/symbian/">Symbian S60</a>-based handset in your pocket, do you? If you've a fever that can only be cured by more <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/21/c64-games-coming-to-wiis-virtual-console/">Commodore 64</a>, you're in luck. The FrodoS60 application brings C64 emulation right to your N95, N96 or any other S60 mobile, and the updated version (1.5) even includes accelerometer support. Head past the break for a quick look at how much joy this little app could bring to your life, and hit the read link if you're interested in getting in on it. Man, Nokia sure is proud of its unlocked <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/N96/">N96</a>, huh? As with the HTC Touch Diamond <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/18/htc-touch-diamond-surfaces-at-compusa-with-quad-band-connecti/">in CompUSA</a> and the BlackBerry Bold <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/27/blackberry-bold-up-for-pre-order-at-best-buy-680-smackers/">at Best Buy Mobile</a>, the flagship N-series device won't run you cheap off-contract. The Boy Genius shows off a flyer advertising the 16GB, 5MP powerhouse for "just" $799.99 (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/22/best-buy-mobile-to-carry-nokia-n96-next-month/">as expected</a>), but judging by the standard $899.99 price on the outfit's website, we're thinking the lower sticker may be for a limited time only. The question isn't how bad do you want it -- it's do you really want it more than <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/13/nokias-n810-internet-tablet-wimax-edition-in-stock-for-493/">1.825 WiMAX-enabled N810s</a>?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/10/30/nokia-n96-lands-at-best-buy/#more-6921">Boy Genius Report</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/symbian/" rel="tag">Symbian</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/30/nokias-n96-comes-to-best-buy-for-upwards-of-800/">Nokia's N96 comes to Best Buy for upwards of $800</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 30 Oct 2008 10:43:00 EST. <div align="left">Yesterday we finally got our hands on the N10 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/17/asus-n10-hands-on-confirms-eee-free-status/">non-netbook</a>, and today we'll be taking a look at the rest of the N Series lineup. There's a little something for everybody here, from the mobility-minded N10 to the higher-end N50. The models include Express Gate, and we're looking forward to finding out if the Super Hybrid Engine power management is all it's cracked up to be. All N Series models also include the SmartLogon facial recognition system (for those of you who are too busy to type a password), but so far the N50 is the only ASUS offering with a built in "Air Ionizer." Check out each machine in detail after the break.<br /><br />[Thanks, Kunal]</div>

Nokia promised us two new handsets today, and just as we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/13/nokia-promises-to-spill-details-on-two-new-handsets-next-week/">heard last week</a>, it's the <a href="http://engadgetmobile.com/tag/n85">N85</a> and <a href="http://engadgetmobile.com/tag/n79">N79</a>. Not a lot of surprises with the N85 since it <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/07/nokia-n85-hits-fcc-in-two-flavors-one-with-just-a-touch-of-nort/">popped in the FCC database</a> a couple weeks ago and started <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/09/nokia-n85-in-the-wild/">appearing in the wild</a>: 2.6-inch AMOLED screen, GPS, five megapixel cam, N-Gage compatibility, 8GB of microSDHC storage, WiFi, and a 28-hour music playback battery life. The N79 replaces the N78, similarly bumping the cam to the big five em-pees with a dual-LED flash, GPS, 4GB microSDHC storage, WiFi, swappable back covers, and a 24-hour music playback battery life. Nokia promised us two new handsets today, and just as we <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/08/13/nokia-promises-to-spill-details-on-two-new-handsets-next-week/">heard last week</a>, it's the <a href="http://engadgetmobile.com/tag/n85">N85</a> and <a href="http://engadgetmobile.com/tag/n79">N79</a>. Not a lot of surprises with the N85 since it <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/08/07/nokia-n85-hits-fcc-in-two-flavors-one-with-just-a-touch-of-nort/">popped in the FCC database</a> a couple weeks ago and started <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/06/09/nokia-n85-in-the-wild/">appearing in the wild</a>: 2.6-inch AMOLED screen, GPS, five megapixel cam, N-Gage compatibility, 8GB of microSDHC storage, WiFi, and a 28-hour music playback battery life. The N79 replaces the N78, similarly bumping the cam to the big five em-pees with a dual-LED flash, GPS, 4GB microSDHC storage, WiFi, swappable back covers, and a 24-hour music playback battery life. Should be out in the UK as of next month, but we're hoping to see these hit our fair shores posthaste. The WiMAX version of Nokia's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/N810/">N810</a> internet tablet has already <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/28/nokia-reveals-the-wimax-n810-just-a-little-early/">popped up</a> on Nokia's European site, lending creedence to all those whispers about a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/14/nokia-n810-with-wimax-set-to-launch-at-ctia-on-april-1st/">CTIA debut tomorrow</a>, and now we've got units showing up in the wild, which is probably a good sign. There were apparently some other shots of this bad boy on Flickr, but they've since been removed -- let's hope tomorrow brings us some official beauty shots, eh?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handhelds/" rel="tag">Handhelds</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/31/nokia-wimax-n810-appears-in-the-wild/">Nokia WiMAX N810 appears in the wild</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 31 Mar 2008 15:47:00 EST. Finally, we can all collectively get a good night's sleep. There were some brief moments of discomfort at Engadget HQ last week when we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/05/nokia-n78-in-the-house-the-fccs-house-that-is/">discovered</a> a completely 3G-less version of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/11/the-nokia-n78-in-european-and-north-american-flavors/">Nokia N78</a> in the FCC's labs; we'd heard after the fact that it was destined for China, but there's still a little bit of that queasy, sick-to-your-stomach feeling until you see the true North American 3G version we were promised at MWC with your own two eyes (come on, don't even front like you haven't felt that before). Well, here ya go -- the SAR report for the RM-342 (an internal model number, of course) verifies that HSDPA is present on both the 850 and 1900MHz bands this time around, so we can get back to our daily lives and routines in peace until it finally launches later this year. Carry on.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/symbian/" rel="tag">Symbian</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/12/fcc-approves-nokia-n78s-north-american-3g-version-too/">FCC approves Nokia N78's North American 3G version, too</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 12 Mar 2008 21:51:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/12/20/nokias-n96-gets-spotted-photographed/">Rumored</a> for a few weeks now as the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/n95">N95's</a> successor in waiting, the mighty N96 dual slider has gone all official on us at Mobile World Congress today. Though the phone it replaces is still a beast by any measure, the N96 pushes the envelope further by packing a solid 16GB of storage internally in addition to a microSD slot, something the N95 8GB lacks. The 5 megapixel autofocus camera with Carl Zeiss Tessar lens carries over, but there are now two LEDs doing flash and video light duty. The 2.8 inch QVGA display will come in handy for the integrated DVB-H mobile TV tuner, while a 3.5mm headphone jack, A2DP, and integrated stereo speakers should handle audio with aplomb. Other features include WiFi, AGPS, and morphing lights on the smaller second slide that hook the user up with game controls when it's time to relax with a little <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/NGage/">N-Gage</a> action. Unfortunately, the first version of the N96 (and the only version announced thus far) supports HSDPA only on the 900 and 2100MHz bands, but we imagine the strength of the spec sheet should still be enough to sell a few of these stateside when it launches in the third quarter for &euro;550 (about $797).<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-nokia-n96-redefines-high-end-1/">The Nokia N96 redefines "high-end"</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-nokia-n96-redefines-high-end-1/#633881"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/02/nokia-n96-00_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-nokia-n96-redefines-high-end-1/#633882"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/02/nokia-n96-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-nokia-n96-redefines-high-end-1/#633883"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/02/nokia-n96-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-nokia-n96-redefines-high-end-1/#633884"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/02/nokia-n96-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-nokia-n96-redefines-high-end-1/#633885"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/02/nokia-n96-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><strong>Update</strong>: The fine crew at NokNok have the first video of the N96 in action. The revamped Nseries lineup is coming fast and furious since the launch of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/N81/">N81</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/N82/">N82</a> late last year, and the latest candybar to get the updated industrial design is the N78, a midrange handset (by Nseries standards, anyway) with an integrated FM transmitter setting it apart from the crowd. Another notable feature is its picture geotagging capability, made possible by the 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera paired with integrated AGPS. Other than that, it's pretty much your average S60 Third Edition Feature Pack 2 piece with Bluetooth and WiFi, though it's the very first Nseries model to be announced in both European and North American 3G versions simultaneously -- and if that's not progress, we don't know what is. Look for it to start stocking shelves next quarter for &euro;350 (about $507).<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-nokia-n78-in-european-and-north-american-flavors/">The Nokia N78, in European and North American flavors</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-nokia-n78-in-european-and-north-american-flavors/#633612"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/02/nokia-n78-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-nokia-n78-in-european-and-north-american-flavors/#633611"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/02/nokia-n78-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-nokia-n78-in-european-and-north-american-flavors/#633610"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/02/nokia-n78-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-nokia-n78-in-european-and-north-american-flavors/#633609"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/02/nokia-n78-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-nokia-n78-in-european-and-north-american-flavors/#633608"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/02/nokia-n78-00_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/symbian/" rel="tag">Symbian</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/11/the-nokia-n78-in-european-and-north-american-flavors/">The Nokia N78, in European and North American flavors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 11 Feb 2008 04:15:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/12/20/nokias-n96-gets-spotted-photographed/">Rumored</a> for a few weeks now as the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/n95">N95's</a> successor in waiting, the mighty N96 dual slider has gone all official on us at Mobile World Congress today. Other features include WiFi, AGPS, and morphing lights on the smaller second slide that hook the user up with game controls when it's time to relax with a little <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/NGage/">N-Gage</a> action. Right <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/11/11/nokia-outing-new-nseries-phone-this-week-n82-odds-on-favorite/">on schedule</a>, Nokia has announced its latest addition to the multimedia-centric (and <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/08/29/nokias-n-gage-gaming-service-now-official/">game-riffic</a>) Nseries line, the N82 candybar. The phone clearly bears a striking resemblance to its recently announced cousin -- the N81 slider -- but the N82 ups the ante with a 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss lens paired with autofocus (naturally) and a xenon flash. Other features include microSD expansion, support for Nokia's own <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/Ovi/">Ovi</a> goodies, WiFi, assisted GPS, a 2.4 inch QVGA display front and center, and an honest-to-goodness 3.5mm headphone jack like the N95 before it. The GSM / EDGE radio does the quadband thing, but HSDPA's available only on the 2100MHz band -- so North Americans with an appetite for data need not apply. Others can buy the N82 starting today for about &euro;450 ($657).<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handhelds/" rel="tag">Handhelds</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/14/the-nokia-n82-gets-official/">The Nokia N82 gets official</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 14 Nov 2007 02:37:00 EST. Alright, there's not much to look at here, but we get the idea. Curtains, a countdown timer, "Nokia Nseries" logo at the top -- can only mean one thing, right? We're less than three days away from some sort of announcement from Nokia's smartphone group here, and with the groundswell of <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/11/07/nokias-n82-spotted-handled-in-the-wild/">N82 buzz</a> the past few days, we'd say the odds of an official N82 launch going down here lie somewhere between "high" and "very high." Alright, there's not much to look at here, but we get the idea. Curtains, a countdown timer, "Nokia Nseries" logo at the top -- can only mean one thing, right? The <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/fcc">FCC</a> database continues to be full of weird and wonderful toys, and the EZFetch HD media streamer from EZ 4 Media certainly fits that description -- in addition to streaming content off networked PCs, it can also grab content from Nokia <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/n+series">Nseries</a> devices and display it on your TV. Connections include the usual SD composite jacks, as well as optical audio, DVI-D, Ethernet, and built-in 801.11g wireless, and codec support is pretty spectacular, including H.264, XviD, DivX HD, MPEG4, WMV, and VOB. The Nseries integration is the big feature here, however -- not only does the EZFetch stream content from any WiFi-capable Nseries device, you can also use the Nseries as a remote to control the entire EZFetch system. No word on pricing or availability, sadly, but RF spectrum test geeks can check out all the test results at the read link.<br /> <br /> <a href="http://ez4media.com/ezfetch.php">Read</a> -- EZ 4 Media website<br /> <a href="http://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&amp;RequestTimeout=500&amp;calledFromFrame=N&amp;application_id=389023&amp;fcc_id=%27P4QEZFETCH1">Read</a> -- EZFetch FCC listing<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/multimedia/" rel="tag">Multimedia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/peripherals/" rel="tag">Peripherals</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/29/ezfetch-hd-media-streamer-can-stream-off-n-series-phones/">EZFetch HD media streamer can stream off N-series phones</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 29 Oct 2007 15:30:00 EST. All too frequently, carrier buy-in is key to getting mobile content off the ground and into wide circulation -- but at least we can't blame <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia">Nokia</a> for trying to do its part, too. As its name implies, "myNseries" is a newly-minted concept app for Nokia's Nseries devices, serving up a wide variety of information and content (apps, videos, graphics, and so on) in a widget-driven, vaguely Web 2.0ish interface. So far it's only been presented at the Nokia Experience in France, but the company's apparently actively working with carriers in a variety of countries to get it rolled out elsewhere (hopefully, you know, not in French).<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.slashphone.com/64/7496.html">Slashphone</a> and <a href="http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/urltrurl?lp=fr_en&amp;url=http://www.mobinaute.com/75068-mynseries-nokia-france-outil-gratuit-possesseurs-s.html">Mobinaute</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/multimedia/" rel="tag">Multimedia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/software/" rel="tag">Software</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/19/nokia-shows-off-mynseries-beta/">Nokia shows off "myNseries" beta</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 19 Jun 2007 00:11:00 EST. When we say "key markets," we naturally mean that the US is left squarely out of the equation (can't you almost <em>feel</em> the bitterness in our voice here?). Alas, folks in parts of Asia, Europe, and the Middle East can now get their hands on the slimmest -- and arguably most attractive -- device in Nokia's multimedia-centric Nseries range, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/08/nokia-puts-nseries-on-a-diet-the-n76/">N76</a>. Furthermore, buyers in a handful of European countries will be given a voucher to download five "pre-selected" tracks by the band Travis from MSN's music store; according to the VP of Brand Entertainment for Sony BMG Europe, Travis' "target audience" fits well with Nokia N76 buyers (who knew?), so the promotion should work out swimmingly. Prices are set by Nokia's regional distributors, but we'd expect interested folk to pay somewhere in $500 range for the privilege of owning the slimmest Nokia flip on the block.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.mobileburn.com/pressrelease.jsp?Id=3327">MobileBurn</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/symbian/" rel="tag">Symbian</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gprs/" rel="tag">GPRS</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/04/28/nokia-n76-now-shipping-in-key-markets/">Nokia N76 now shipping in "key markets"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 28 Apr 2007 15:03:00 EST. Not to suggest there's any... oh, you know, "service" you can subscribe to in these parts that rocks mobile TV over the DVB-H airwaves, but an FCC approval is always a good sign -- and the presence of an upstart service provider <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/01/modeo-smartphone-unboxed/">working its rear off</a> to get picked up by a carrier always helps, too. The 3.5mm jack-sportin', S60-havin' <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/12/nokias-n77-with-dvb-h-mobile-tv/">N77</a> from Nokia is the latest DVB-H equipped handset to get signed off by the FCC, and while we don't have any word of a GSM 850, UMTS 850 / 1900 version floating around, we can't help but hope that an eventual Modeo success could lead to phones like this magically gaining bands; until then, we'll just be tooling around with our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/30/fcc-blesses-htc-foreseer/">Foreseers</a>.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/multimedia/" rel="tag">Multimedia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/symbian/" rel="tag">Symbian</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gprs/" rel="tag">GPRS</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/07/nokia-n77-passes-fcc-dvb-h-and-all/">Nokia N77 passes FCC -- DVB-H and all</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 07 Mar 2007 11:34:00 EST. We weren't exactly sure what sort of level of integration to expect from this <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/02/12/nokia-teams-up-with-an-unfaithful-youtube-for-nseries-vids/">YouTube and Nokia dealio</a>, and now we've got some legit video proof that's simultaneously promising and disappointing. On the plus side, the YouTube videos seem to be easy access, and are accompanied by a nice collection of other RSS-subscribable vids, which makes content consumption much less of a chore than it can tend to be on phones. It's also nice to see that the YouTube channel being accessed seems to be for the most part a stream of YouTube's featured videos, so you can keep up with what all the cool kids are watching. Unfortunately, it looks like the selection stops there: no search or browsing capabilities to speak of. From the looks of things, you might be able to subscribe to other YouTube channels, but it seems that dreams of free-roaming mobile access to YouTube content will have to be put on hold for the time being. What we do know is that more partnerships are in the works, so hopefully YouTube will keep on trying out partners until somebody actually gets it right. The video is after the break.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.ringnokia.com/2007/02/video_demo_of_n.html">Ring Nokia</a>]<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/13/nokias-youtube-features-in-action/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nokia's YouTube features in action</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/13/nokias-youtube-features-in-action/">Nokia's YouTube features in action</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 13 Feb 2007 18:34:00 EST.
