Instead of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/07/samsung-focus-2-windows-phone/">Focus 2</a>, Samsung announced that the Omnia M will take its place in Europe and it's looking an awful lot like its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/20/samsung-omnia-7-review/">predecessor</a> -- although we're a bit concerned the build quality may not match its older brother. With a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, and 1GHz processor, the Omnia M should be more than up to the task of dealing with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/WindowsPhone/">Windows Phone</a>, alongside some Samsung-specific software additions, including AllShare and its own cross-platform <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ChatON/">ChatON</a> messenger app. A front-facing VGA camera will also link up with Samsung's own video-call features, while a 5-megapixel sensor is in charge of primary camera functions. The company says the phone will roll out to other regions following its European launch, although it's keeping quiet on whether a visit to the US is on the cards.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/11/samsung-omnia-m/">Samsung Omnia M revealed for Europe: 4-inch Super AMOLED and some software extras</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 11 May 2012 06:11:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/16/samsung-omnia-w-slides-through-fcc-with-north-american-3g-suppor/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/omnia-w-fcc-1116.jpg" style="border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; margin: 4px;" /></a></div>
The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/26/samsungs-omnia-w-mango-3-7-inch-super-amoled-1-4ghz-processo/">Omnia W</a> isn't exactly a stranger among Julius Genachowski's minions, who first <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/21/fcc-fridays-october-21-2011/">laid eyes upon</a> the device back in October, but apparently, that first round of scrutiny just wasn't enough. That's right. The Omnia W is back, with one fundamental change: unlike the first handset (GT-I8350), which maxes out at EDGE connectivity on our domestic 1900 / 850MHz bands, the latest model (GT-I8350T) has piled on support for WCDMA and HSPA over the 850MHz spectrum. Given the similarity of AT&amp;T's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/05/samsung-focus-flash-review/">Focus Flash</a> to the Omnia W, it seems terribly unlikely that this one is bound for the States -- which also suggests that this mid-sized Mango may have Canada squarely within its sights. With the utter absence of Windows Phone at Bell and Rogers, and merely the Optimus 7 at Telus, the arrival of some tropical fruit up north seems long overdue, indeed.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/16/samsung-omnia-w-slides-through-fcc-with-north-american-3g-suppor/">Samsung Omnia W slides through FCC with North American 3G support</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 16 Nov 2011 20:14:00 EST. Samsung just took the wraps off its Omnia W, which looks like a non-US variant of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/12/atandt-announces-mango-lineup-new-phones-and-updates-coming-this/">Focus Flash</a> we've already heard about via AT&amp;T. The handset will debut in Italy and start spreading across the Old World and Latin America from next month. It'll sport <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/27/windows-phone-7-5-mango-in-depth-preview-video/">Windows Phone 7.5</a> out of the box, a 3.7-inch 800x480 Super AMOLED display, 1.4GHz processor, VGA webcam on the front and rear 5MP shooter with 720p video recording. We expect it'll go head-to-head with HTC's 3.8-inch <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/01/htc-titan-and-radar-wp-7-mango-phones-revealed-we-go-hands/">Radar</a> when the War of the Mangoes finally kicks off.<br />

If smartphone platforms are legitimized by a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/kirf/">KIRF</a> manufacturer's tenacity to rip them off, then Windows Phone has truly arrived. Today we're looking at a larger than life "HTC"-branded knock-off of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/20/samsung-omnia-7-review/">Omnia 7</a>, replete with an 800 x 480 4.8-inch (!) capacitive touchscreen and 1GHz Snapdragon processor. Given the massive size of this phone, there's plenty of room for features, which include Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS connectivity, along with a five megapixel camera, dual-SIMs and two microSD slots (for up to 32GB storage). Whew. Impressive specs aside, the device comes saddled with Windows Mobile 6.5 -- which has been heavily modified to resemble WP7's tile interface. There's no word yet on pricing -- just ask someone selling phones on a blanket the next time you're in Shenzhen, okay?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/27/keepin-it-real-fake-windows-phone-7-debuts-in-china/">Keepin' it real fake: Windows Phone 7 debuts in China</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 27 Apr 2011 01:56:00 EST. Such a big load of trouble for such a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/21/microsoft-pushing-small-update-to-windows-phones-to-prepare-for/">small update</a>. Microsoft's first WP7 firmware refresh has been causing some unfortunate <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/22/first-windows-phone-7-update-not-going-smoothly-for-some-samsung/">brick-like behavior</a> in Samsung <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/20/samsung-omnia-7-review/">Omnia 7s</a> and the company has wisely decided to pull the new software back until it can correct whatever's going wrong. An official communiqu&eacute; to <em>WinRumors</em> says Microsoft has identified the issue at hand and is working to correct it and redistribute the update as soon as possible. For any Samsung WP7 phone owners who haven't been able to resuscitate their device yet, the advised course of action is to go back to the store and swap it for a livelier one.<br />

We knew <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/samsung">Samsung's</a> been in the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/product/windows-phone-7-series">Windows Phone 7</a> game pretty much since day one, but the Korean giant's managed to keep its Europe-bound Omnia 7 under tight wraps until <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/13/windows-phone-7-leak-mania-continues-with-new-samsung-prototype/">mid-summer</a> this year. Two months onwards, we find ourselves cradling this macho-looking device, and giggly flicking through the various tiles in its newborn OS. Just to freshen up your memory, we're looking at a 4-inch Super AMOLED-donning slate, garnished with a dash of Tyrian purple aluminum on the back, and capped with some dark gray polycarbonate at the top and bottom. Well, you know the drill -- join us after the break to find out how the rest of this phone fares.<br />

We knew <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/19/windows-phone-7-in-depth-preview/">Windows Phone 7</a> was <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/11/microsoft-announces-ten-windows-phone-7-handsets-for-30-countrie/">scheduled</a> to land first internationally, but it's always a treat to hear the particulars. Orange UK has just (re)revealed that it'll be the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/04/htc-mozart-slips-out-on-official-orange-uk-website-shows-us-how/">exclusive</a> carrier of HTC's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/11/htc-7-mozart-first-hands-on/">7 Mozart</a> across the pond, and it'll be joined by Samsung's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/11/samsung-omnia-7-first-hands-on/">Omnia 7</a> as both go on sale tomorrow morning in Orange's Oxford Street shop -- fittingly, at 7am local time. Naturally, the carrier is going to blow out the launch, with each customer buying a WP7 handset to receive a complimentary Bluetooth headset... while supplies last, anyway. You'll also get a stockpile of Orange applications and services (like it or not), and we're told that each phone will be offered for zilch with a fresh contract starting at &pound;35 per month (7 Mozart) / &pound;40 per month (Omnia 7). Jealous, North America?<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/20/htc-7-mozart-and-samsung-omnia-7-on-sale-tomorrow-on-orange-uk/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>HTC 7 Mozart and Samsung Omnia 7 on sale tomorrow at 7am on Orange UK</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/20/htc-7-mozart-and-samsung-omnia-7-on-sale-tomorrow-on-orange-uk/">HTC 7 Mozart and Samsung Omnia 7 on sale tomorrow at 7am on Orange UK</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 20 Oct 2010 16:05:00 EST. Samsung's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/11/samsung-focus-and-omnia-7-are-ready-to-rock-with-windows-phone-7/">Omnia 7</a>, ladies and gents. Equipped with the only <a href="http://www.engadget.com/all/superamoled">Super AMOLED</a> display in Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 stable, the Omnia 7 provides suitably vibrant and richly saturated visuals. To be perfectly fair, we didn't note a major advantage in using its display relative to the other WP7 devices, but that's more a mark of distinction for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/all/wp7launch">other phones on show today</a>. The hardware really is looking polished to perfection on all these devices, and the Omnia 7 isn't really breaking with that trend, showing off a remarkably lightweight body that combines straight lines with a nicely curved back that sits well in the hand. The power/lock button is curiously positioned <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-omnia-7-hands-on/#3456120">on the side of the device</a>, but all points of input seemed to perform very nicely once you know where they are. The depressed Windows key is basically identical to the iPhone's, dare we say it, iconic home button. As to performance, we've nothing to say that we haven't said about the other WP7 launch devices, it's blindingly, ridiculously, <em>delightfully</em> quick.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> Hey, who wants to see Engadget being pinch-to-zoomed on a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen? How about a quickie size comparison between the Omnia 7 and the iPhone 4? Both are in the video now available after the break.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-omnia-7-hands-on/">Samsung Omnia 7 hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-omnia-7-hands-on/#3456047"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/som710x101180001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-omnia-7-hands-on/#3456049"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/som710x101180002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-omnia-7-hands-on/#3456052"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/som710x101180004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-omnia-7-hands-on/#3456106"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/som710x101180026_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-omnia-7-hands-on/#3456084"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/som710x101180014_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/11/samsung-omnia-7-first-hands-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Samsung Omnia 7 first hands-on (update: video!)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/11/samsung-omnia-7-first-hands-on/">Samsung Omnia 7 first hands-on (update: video!)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 11 Oct 2010 11:47:00 EST. Boy, there's hardly been enough time to catch our breath and analyze the first unintentionally official Windows Phone 7 handset in the form of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/11/lg-optimus-7-made-official-ahead-of-windows-phone-7-launch-quic/">LG's Optimus 7</a>, yet Samsung is already joining the fray with its own <a href="http://www.engadget.com/all/omnia7">Omnia 7</a>. Currently populating its very own landing page on Samsung's Russian site, the Omnia 7 is a 4-inch Super AMOLED beastie with a rather aged 1GHz Qualcomm QSD8250 at its core, 8GB of storage, and a 5 megapixel cam that can do 720p video. Hit up the source link before somebody over in Moscow wakes up and realizes that Windows Phone 7 isn't meant to be launching for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/11/live-from-microsofts-windows-phone-7-launch-event/">another few hours</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/11/samsung-omnia-7-brings-4-inch-super-amoled-screen-to-windows-pho/">Samsung Omnia 7 brings 4-inch Super AMOLED screen to Windows Phone 7... a little early</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 11 Oct 2010 06:13:00 EST. If you knew anything about The Rachel Zoe Project, you'd know that dear Rachel never, <i>ever</i> leaves home without her <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/BlackBerry/">BlackBerry</a>. Apparently, her comforting hubby -- known affectionately as Rodger Berman -- isn't going far without his unbranded <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/WindowsPhone7/">Windows Phone 7</a> device (and a little help from <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Bing/">Bing</a>, naturally). Curiously enough, the date on the screen shows July, so there's a halfway decent chance the software they're playing with is of the pre-production variety... particularly since he's wielding a Samsung <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/22/samsung-windows-phone-7-prototype-hands-on/">Omnia i9810-based prototype</a>. Oh, and as you can see above, we're guessing he's relying on WiFi or some off-camera magic to actually pull anything up. Hard to get 3G in Los Angeles, <em>especially</em> when your phone is missing its SIM card. At any rate, the spot in full is embedded just past the break, and just between us, we get the feeling this is just the first of many more to come.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">When we reviewed the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/22/verizon-samsung-omnia-ii-impressions/">Samsung Omnia II</a>, we forgot to mention one major drawback: the lack of Giorgio Armani branding. Luckily the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/topic/kirf-keepin-it-real-fake">KIRFmeisters of Shenzhen</a> have picked up where the original manufacturer dropped the ball. And they threw in a QWERTY keyboard to boot! No word on price or availability of the KIRF Samsung Omnia Pro Giorgio, but that's probably for the best. And yes, it has dual SIM cards.<br />

Samsung's WinMo 6.5-packin' <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/omnia+ii">Omnia II</a> has <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/02/samsung-omnia-ii-unboxing-and-hands-on/">been available</a> to Verizon Wireless customers (or at least those unaffected by the Droid) for a few weeks now, but strangely, we've yet to see a proper dissection of this here smartphone until today. That said, we're sure the patience you've put into this will pay off after heading past the break, where all of the itty-bitty internals are shown in stunning detail for your entertainment / education. As a good gal we once knew would say: "Ain't that the berries!"<br /> <br /> [Thanks, Costas]<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/22/samsungs-omnia-ii-gets-the-video-tear-down-youve-all-been-long/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Samsung's Omnia II gets the video tear down you've all been longing for</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/22/samsungs-omnia-ii-gets-the-video-tear-down-youve-all-been-long/">Samsung's Omnia II gets the video tear down you've all been longing for</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 22 Dec 2009 08:19:00 EST. It's here at last, and we're frankly thrilled to be holding Samsung's very first TouchWiz 2.0 device, the Verizon Wireless-bound <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/omniaii">Samsung Omnia II</a>. The 2.0 software brings with it a Widget Store, and as a general UI manages to skin over a majority of Windows Mobile 6.5, which is puttering along underneath. The handset is a tad on the bulky side, but makes up for it with a wonderful 3.7-inch AMOLED WVGA screen and a very nice 5 megapixel camera. We'll have a review for you before long, but for now you can check out a quick video rundown (including some playtime with the Samsung-exclusive "Swype" keyboard) after the break. And if that video is enough to convince you, the phone is available <a href="http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&amp;action=viewPhoneDetail&amp;selectedPhoneId=5110">now on Verizon Wireless</a> for $200 after rebate. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-omnia-ii-unboxing-and-hands-on/">Samsung Omnia II unboxing and hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-omnia-ii-unboxing-and-hands-on/#2494589"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/12/omnia-ii-unbox-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-omnia-ii-unboxing-and-hands-on/#2494588"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/12/omnia-ii-unbox-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-omnia-ii-unboxing-and-hands-on/#2494587"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/12/omnia-ii-unbox-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-omnia-ii-unboxing-and-hands-on/#2494586"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/12/omnia-ii-unbox-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-omnia-ii-unboxing-and-hands-on/#2494585"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/12/omnia-ii-unbox-06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/02/samsung-omnia-ii-unboxing-and-hands-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Samsung Omnia II unboxing and hands-on</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/02/samsung-omnia-ii-unboxing-and-hands-on/">Samsung Omnia II unboxing and hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 02 Dec 2009 11:03:00 EST. If you have an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/i900">Omnia i900</a> <span style="font-style: italic;">and</span> you live in the UK, Italy, or France then listen up, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/31/samsung-application-store-announced-the-mobile-mall-gets-a-litt/">Samsung's Application Store</a> just went live. A quick .CAB file download installs the new Application Store client onto your WinMo handset. From there you have access to about 300 paid (payable by credit card, phone billing "coming soon") and free apps via WiFi or Cellular data connections. Samsung plans to have over "over 2,000" apps in the store by the end of 2009 with support added for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/i8000">Omnia II I8000</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/b7300">OmniaLITE B7300</a> from more than 30 countries planned on an indeterminate timeline. A quick glance through the top paid apps reveals the &pound;3.50 Guitar Hero World Tour and free apps like Evernote and the Skyfire browser -- otherwise, the so-called "Hot" game-heavy, apps look pretty lackluster for the moment. It's also interesting (read: odd) that Skyfire is tagged with an "OS Cetified" (Samsung's misspelling) badge for Windows Mobile while the heavily promoted Guitar Hero remains badge-less. Ah well, <em>it is launch day</em> and we expect these things will get ironed-out soon enough. Pics and highly conceptualized App Store experience demonstration after the break. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.samsungapps.com/notice/getNoticeDetail.as?csNoticeID=0000000160">Read</a> -- Press release <br /><a href="http://www.samsungapps.com/about/aboutApps.as">Read</a> -- Download<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/14/samsungs-application-store-scrambles-to-life-for-some-omnia-i90/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Samsung's Application Store scrambles to life for some Omnia i900 owners</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/software/" rel="tag">Software</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/samsung/" rel="tag">Samsung</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/14/samsungs-application-store-scrambles-to-life-for-some-omnia-i90/">Samsung's Application Store scrambles to life for some Omnia i900 owners</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 14 Sep 2009 04:41:00 EST. Here's the good news: the unlocked version of Samsung's I8000 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Omnia2/">Omnia 2</a> is now available for pre-order on Amazon, sporting quad-band GSM and HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100. Soaked that in? Great, let's move on to the bad news: it's currently listed for $999.99. Ouch. Ouch. At least it'll be subsidized when bought through a carrier (hear us, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/28/possible-palm-pre-eos-storm-2-and-more-revealed-in-verizon-da/">Verizon</a>?). Oh, look, it's another place to buy bite-sized mobile apps, this one courtesy of Samsung. The company isn't exactly new to the whole application store thing, launching a little <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/03/samsung-mobile-applications-gets-ready-for-symbian-s60-launch/">outlet for Nokia users</a> earlier this year, but piggy-backing on someone else's platform and boldly blazing a trail of <em>iFart</em> knockoffs on your own hardware are two very different things. <div style="text-align: left; ">If this screen capture to be believed, August 23rd is gearing up to be one helluva day for phone lovers. Oh sure, we've <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/05/samsung-omnia-ii-and-the-case-of-the-musical-guided-tour/">seen</a> Samsung's WinMo-powered Omnia II <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/15/samsungs-omnia-family-hands-on-samsung-jet-and-pixon-12-come-a/">a time or two</a> before, but this looks to be the first instance of it waltzing in front of a camera after leaving its retail packaging. Not much seems to have changed from those pre-release versions we peeked, and we have to say, that 3.7-inch AMOLED display looks <em>awfully </em>inviting. Of course, you'll have a hard time procuring one of these critters here in North America without a solid importer over in Singapore, but if you can somehow steal some patience from underneath that couch cushion, you'll <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/15/samsung-omnia-ii-now-official-amoled-touchscreen-with-touchwiz/">be just fine</a>. Remember how Verizon <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/15/samsung-omnia-ii-now-official-amoled-touchscreen-with-touchwiz/">is getting the Omnia II</a>? Yeah, well, don't get too excited, because this isn't it. A version of Samsung's latest full-touch WinMo superphone just garnered FCC approval, and more excitingly, it packs WCDMA bands II and V -- exactly the bands we use in North America -- but you might notice that there's a surprising dearth of English on the product's certification label. Well, see, it turns out that South America uses those bands, too -- and the "L" in this version's model number of i8000L probably stands for Latin America, if we had to guess. That's not to say savvy North Americans couldn't import this and get some juicy 3G on AT&amp;T or Rogers, but at least in AT&amp;T's case, we still don't have any particular reason to believe that this'll land over there. Certainly wouldn't hurt their case, though, would it?<br />

<ul>
    <li>The Samsung <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/OmniaII/">Omnia II</a> will <a href="http://techielobang.com/blog/2009/07/14/samsung-omnia-ii-i8000-and-omnia-pro-b7320-availability-date-and-price-revealed/">go on sale</a> in Singapore this Saturday, July 18 for S$898 (about $619) unlocked, while the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/OmniaPro/">Omnia Pro</a> will be available August 1 for something under S$550 (about $379). [Thanks, Rixter]<br /></li>
    <li>Remember that mysterious <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/03/mysterious-samsung-link-coming-to-bell-this-month/">Samsung Link</a> for Bell? <em>MobileSyrup</em> has <a href="http://mobilesyrup.com/2009/07/15/bell-to-launch-samsung-link-july-30th/">scored the lowdown</a> on the device, and it turns out not to be a smartphone of any sort -- instead, it's just a text-centric dumbphone (isn't that theme starting to get a little played out?) with a 1.3 megapixel camera and a 2.2-inch display. It'll allegedly launch on July 30 in your choice of white or black for CAD $19.95 (about $18) on a three-year deal.</li>
    <li>HTC has already managed to <a href="http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=133&amp;cat=0&amp;dl_id=609">roll a fix</a> for that Bluetooth vulnerability they've been <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/15/oh-by-the-way-july-14-2009/">dogged by in recent days</a>. [Via <a href="http://pocketnow.com/bluetooth/htc-to-release-long-waited-bluetooth-security-hotfix">pocketnow.com</a>]</li>
    <li>Ovi Maps 3.1, N-Gage, Ovi Contacts 2.1, and a mysterious "phone memory update" are all <a href="http://www.symbian-guru.com/welcome/2009/07/nokia-releases-handful-of-updates-for-the-n97.html">now available</a> to users of North American Nokia N97s. Early reports suggest that some users are having trouble getting the goods installed successfully, so let us know how it goes.</li>
    <li>Continuing a trend it started earlier this year on other smartphones, Verizon has gone ahead and <a href="http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/jsp/faqs/faqs_view.jsp?SITE_ID=22&amp;PG_ID=557&amp;PROD_SUB_ID=561&amp;PROD_ID=1360&amp;AT_ID=157998">unlocked the GPS</a> on its Samsung Omnia with an official firmware update. The release also includes an updated WinMo 6.1 AKU, Bluetooth tethering support through VZ Access Manager, and some memory fixes. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in]</li>

Samsung's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/OmniaII/">Omnia II</a> and its gorgeous 3.7-inch AMOLED screen is still without a Verizon release date, but don't let that stop you from enjoying Italian site <em>HDBlog's </em>ten-minute guided tour of the device. Hard to tell exactly how crisp is from the footage, and we also couldn't help but note a good bit of interface lag, especially when using the new cube menu. We're hopeful that'll get remedied before launch, and all in all, it's looking good, and the hardware definitely has some style. This project's a few days old, but it's so cool that we wanted to bring it to your attention anyway: "andromnia." From the name, you might be able to gather that this is all about porting Android to the Samsung <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Omnia/">Omnia</a>, which represents the marriage of one awesome piece of hardware with one very awesome platform, as far as we're concerned. Of course, a project of this magnitude requires hackery of the highest order, and the going's not easy -- things like "calling" don't readily work at the moment -- but it appears to be actively developing, so if you've got an Omnia handy and WinMo isn't really your bag, we'd recommend keeping an eye on this.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/software/" rel="tag">Software</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/samsung/" rel="tag">Samsung</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/android/" rel="tag">Android</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/26/android-lovingly-painstakingly-ported-to-samsungs-omnia/">Android lovingly, painstakingly ported to Samsung's Omnia</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 26 Jun 2009 21:53:00 EST. Samsung just pulled a bit of a "Samsung" and completely blew out its Omnia lineup. We just got some face time with the new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/15/samsung-omnia-ii-now-official-amoled-touchscreen-with-touchwiz/">Omnia II</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/15/samsung-omnia-pro-b7610-slider-gets-official-reveal/">Omnia Pro</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/19/samsung-b7300-pictured-excites-only-the-most-rabid-winmo-fans/">Omnia Lite</a> and the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/15/samsung-jet-packs-an-800mhz-processor-amoled-display-featureph/">Omnia-inspired Jet</a>, along with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/01/samsungs-pixon-12-a-dozen-megapixels-of-cameraphone-nonsense-i/">Pixon 12</a> -- which runs the same in-house Samsung OS as the Jet, but packs a 12 megapixel camera. It's hard not to notice the stunning AMOLED screens on these phones, especially up against the dull-by-comparison Omnia Lite with its petty LCD. Unfortunately, while the build quality is good and the specs are certainly all there, all the phones were fairly slow in regular operation. The Jet and Pixon were passable (and the Jet certainly ought to be, with an 800MHz "application processor"), but we can't imagine anybody finding any pleasure in the molasses Windows Mobile 6.1 experiences on the Omnia trio. The Jet has a fun little 3D UI "cube" gimmick, which involves the pointless spinning of a cube to access different media apps, but most of what we saw was pretty standard TouchWiz. We did like the speed of Pixon's camera, which does a Pre-style trick of sending photo processing duties to the background so you can snap another photo with little delay in between -- it's also pretty good at auto focus and color accuracy for a phone, but we won't be trading in our regular point and shoot in the near term. None of the phones we looked at had network access, so we weren't able to test out the WebKit browsers, but it sounds like a major win for the Jet and Pixon. Let's just work on that Omnia responsiveness a bit, yeah Samsung? Perhaps Windows Mobile 6.5 (the Omnia II and Omnia Pro are 6.5-ready) will help.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsungs-omnia-family-hands-on-samsung-jet-and-pixon-12-come-along-for-the-ride/">Samsung's Omnia family hands-on, Samsung Jet and Pixon 12 come along for the ride</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsungs-omnia-family-hands-on-samsung-jet-and-pixon-12-come-along-for-the-ride/#2084581"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/06/samsung-fam-hands-002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsungs-omnia-family-hands-on-samsung-jet-and-pixon-12-come-along-for-the-ride/#2084578"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/06/samsung-fam-hands-003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsungs-omnia-family-hands-on-samsung-jet-and-pixon-12-come-along-for-the-ride/#2084565"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/06/samsung-fam-hands-004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsungs-omnia-family-hands-on-samsung-jet-and-pixon-12-come-along-for-the-ride/#2084550"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/06/samsung-fam-hands-005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsungs-omnia-family-hands-on-samsung-jet-and-pixon-12-come-along-for-the-ride/#2084573"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/06/samsung-fam-hands-007_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/samsung/" rel="tag">Samsung</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/15/samsungs-omnia-family-hands-on-samsung-jet-and-pixon-12-come-a/">Samsung's Omnia family hands-on, Samsung Jet and Pixon 12 come along for the ride</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 15 Jun 2009 13:28:00 EST. Although not exactly the best kept secret (we first caught wind <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/09/samsungs-omnia-ii-gt-i8000-leaks-early/">last week</a>), Samsung's Verizon-bound Omnia II / I8000 is now one hundred percent official, along with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/15/samsung-omnia-pro-b7610-slider-gets-official-reveal/">even more official US confirmations</a> for the Omnia Pro B760 (Louvre) slider, Omnia Pro B7320 candybar, and the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/19/samsung-b7300-pictured-excites-only-the-most-rabid-winmo-fans/">Omnia Lite B7300</a>. Specs for the Omnia II are just a little different than what we previously heard: 3.7-inch AMOLED resistive touchscreen with WVGA (480 x 800) resolution, 7.2Mbps HSPA (or EV-DO Rev. A for Verizon's version), 5 megapixel camera, 720 x 480 at 30fps video recording, 2GB to 16GB internal storage with microSD expansion slot, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi, AGPS, and TouchWiz 2.0 UI. As for the Lite, we're looking at HSDPA, WiFi, 3 megapixel camera, AGPS, and just as the name suggests, a good likelihood it'll be overshadowed by its more feature-rich brother. <br /> <br /> <strong>Update:</strong> We can't say it's unexpected, but just to be clear, Omnia II buyers shouldn't worry about living in the past.<em><a href="http://tech.yahoo.com/news/zd/20090615/tc_zd/241388"> Yahoo! Samsung's being tight-lipped with the details, but at least it did us the solid of making its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/B7610/">Omnia Pro B7610</a> (aka, <a href="Samsung Omnia Pro B7610 slider gets official reveal">B7610 Louvre</a>) QWERTY slider official today at CommunicAsia. Unfortuantely, Samsung isn't giving out any detail on the B7610 so we'll have to go on believing in the rumored 3.5-inch AMOLED display with 800x480 pixel resolution, 5.1 megapixel camera, 7.2Mbps HSDPA data, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, 1GB built-in with microSDHC expansion, and 800MHz processor driving Windows Mobile until they tell us something different.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/news-18296-The+Samsung+B7610+and+Friends+Officially+Official.html">Akihabara News</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/samsung/" rel="tag">Samsung</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/15/samsung-omnia-pro-b7610-slider-gets-official-reveal/">Samsung Omnia Pro B7610 slider gets official reveal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 15 Jun 2009 05:30:00 EST. We're actually surprised we didn't make the connection earlier, but word on the street today is the rumored <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/26/samsung-omnia-pro-with-landscape-qwerty-coming-this-summer/">Samsung Omnia Pro</a> will actually be a renamed <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/12/samsung-b7610-louvre-rematerializes-specd-and-caught-on-camera/">Louvre B7610</a>, a set that's been popping up a lot lately. Makes sense -- the Louvre's 3.5-inch WVGA AMOLED screen, 800MHz processor, and 5.1 megapixel camera match up nicely with the Omnia line. It's running Windows Mobile 6.1 right now, but we wouldn't be too surprised if the rumored August release date is held back to September or October to coincide with WinMo 6.5. One more pic after the break, couple more at the read links.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.unwiredview.com/2009/06/13/samsung-louvre-b7610-is-actually-the-omnia-pro/">Unwired View</a>]<br /><br /><a href="http://connect-utb.com/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=164%3Asamsung-omnia-pro-pictures-discovered&amp;catid=36%3Atechnology&amp;Itemid=67">Read</a> - Connect-UTB post<br /><a href="http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread.php?s=2a0db1609c69fdeaa3ce3c1daa3414a9&amp;p=1302594#post1302594">Read</a> - Beyond3D forum post<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/14/samsung-omnia-pro-to-be-the-louvre-b7610/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Samsung Omnia Pro to be the Louvre B7610?</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/samsung/" rel="tag">Samsung</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/14/samsung-omnia-pro-to-be-the-louvre-b7610/">Samsung Omnia Pro to be the Louvre B7610?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 14 Jun 2009 17:38:00 EST. We're actually surprised we didn't make the connection earlier, but word on the street today is the the rumored <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/26/samsung-omnia-pro-with-landscape-qwerty-coming-this-summer/">Samsung Omnia Pro</a> will actually be a renamed <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/12/samsung-b7610-louvre-rematerializes-specd-and-caught-on-camera/">Louvre B7610</a>, a set that's been popping up a lot lately. Oh look, something other than a Pre or iPhone... it's Samsung's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/GT-I8000">GT-I8000</a>, or Omnia II / Omnia 2 as it's expected to be known by the time it launches. Spec-counters will want to listen in close 'cause the GT-I8000 comes packing a 3.7-inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixel) AMOLED display (presumably the same display just <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/01/samsungs-wvga-amoled-800x400-pixels-and-swine-flu-immune/">revealed by Samsung last week</a>) with an 8.1 megapixel camera lit by dual-LEDs capable of recording VGA video at 30fps. The Lithuanian on-line retailer responsible for leaking the specs (which have now been removed) says we'll see a 1500mAh battery powering HSDPA data with a custom "cubic" UI (looking very similar to the UI on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/s8000/">S8000 Jet</a>) riding atop Windows Mobile. Whether you call it <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/omniahd">OmniaHD</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/09/samsung-selectively-drops-omniahd-name-in-some-countries/">i8910 HD</a>, or even "Timmy Tim" (hey, it could happen), Samsung's AMOLED--infused smartphone is a winner, if the fine lads at <em>Phone Arena</em> are to be believed. Points go to its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/15/samsungs-omniahd-worlds-first-phone-to-capture-720p-video/">HD video recording</a> and playback, a surprisingly good battery life, and a form factor that's not too hard on the pocket, measuring in at just a wee bit taller and thicker than the HTC Touch HD. Not everything's sunshine and rainbows, though, as trying to use it in direct sunlight's a lost cause and the phone is a magnet for fingerprints. Still, those are pretty minor in comparison, and this is sounding more and more like a solid smartphone.
