    President Trump deletes tweets that supported a losing candidate

    Last year, Twitter cut off and then reinstated Politwoops, a project that stores and reports deleted tweets by politicians. CEO Jack Dorsey said at the time that Twitter reinstated its access to "bring transparency" - similar to reasoning the company recently cited for not deleting certain tweets that appear to violate its rules. As a result, Politwoops was up and running tonight when three tweets posted in the last day from Donald Trump's personal account suddenly disappeared.

    Politwoops is back in action, capturing and storing the boneheaded mistakes of politicians around the world. Twitter pulled the plug on the site last June, claiming that it violated user privacy and its terms and conditions. However, newly reinstated CEO Jack Dorsey said that Twitter has a responsibility to aid public transparency and specifically called out Politwoops as the kind of organization he wants to support. After Twitter reinstated the site last week, it's now back online, and its parent, the Open State Foundation has added some features in the interim.

  • Twitter shuts down accounts monitoring politicians' deleted tweets

    After suspending API access to the Open State Foundation's (OSF) primary American account in May, Twitter went ahead and nixed the foundation's 30 remaining satellite accounts over the weekend. OSF employed these accounts to monitor and publicize the deleted tweets of elected officials in countries worldwide. Twitter also shut down the group's Diplotwoops account, which served the same purpose but for diplomats.
