  • Patch 6.0.2: Ordos cloak requirement removed

One of the unique quirks of the Timeless Isle, introduced in patch 5.4, was the means in which players accessed Ordos, Fire-God of the Yaungol and the world boss located at the highest heights of the Isle. In order to even get to the temple in which Ordos was located, players needed to either fly very carefully on one of the Isle's many flying albatross taxis, or have a legendary cloak that would glide them right on over the broken bridge that led to the Ordon Sanctuary. And even if you took the albatross, fighting Ordos required the legendary cloak -- you could not engage the world boss without it. But according to developer Jeremy Feasel on Twitter, that's about to change in patch 6.0.2. @perculia @nite_moogle Yes, you will not need the cloak to fight Ordos in 6.0.- Jeremy Feasel (@Muffinus) September 16, 2014 Later tweets clarified that the cloak wouldn't even be needed to get over the broken bridge -- the Celestials will send everyone flying to the other side, regardless of whether they have the legendary cloak or not. For those that don't really do any raiding, Ordos has quite the loot table of gear. Every item he drops is ilvl 559, and although we won't be able to upgrade gear with Valor when the patch hits, it's still some pretty good gear for getting a head-start on leveling in Warlords. If you don't have a legendary cloak, or don't plan to obtain one, you might just want to focus your attention on Ordos for a few last pre-Warlords upgrades once patch 6.0.2 goes live.

  • World Bosses no longer tap to faction

Lead Encounter Designer Ion "Watcher" Hazzikostas has posted on Twitter confirming what some players thought was a bug. Several players have noticed that, when an opposing faction group is attacking a world boss, like the Celestials, they are able to hit it and still get loot and credit. Watcher confirmed via Twitter that this was not a bug, and actually a hotfix that went in recently. That hotfix, he also notes, caused the boss health scaling with larger groups to break. This, in turn, has been fixed. He also later added that this was not just applicable to Timeless Isle bosses, but to all of them. So presumably, that's every boss from Galleon and the Sha of Anger, through Nalak and Oondasta, right to the Celestials, and Ordos. What this means is just as explained above -- if the opposite faction pulls a boss, you can punch it and still get credit and loot. You'd have to be a little brave or foolhardy to do so alone on a PvP server, unless you're a stealth class, but the opportunity remains. It'll be interesting to see whether this change has an impact on the use of the Raid Finder and oQueue for Celestials groups, or not. Given the convenience of those methods for finding a composed group, I suspect they'll prevail.

  • The real reason I hate the Timeless Isle

I hate the Timeless Isle. I hate the lack of clear objectives. I hate the pseudo-platformer elements. I hate the pouncing tigers, stomping rock monsters, and the shield bearing Ordon yaungol (all of which have abilities I'd be perfectly happy to deal with in a dungeon but am inconvenienced by when I just want 50 Lesser Charms of Good Fortune for the week). There's also the unconventional grummle mailbox that requires two clicks instead of one, and the apocalyptic typhoon of random consumable items wrecking my bag space. But above all of those there is one thing I hate more than anything about the Timeless Isle ... The yaks.

  • Esoth explains how to serve Ordos on the Timeless Isle

No, it's not a cookbook. Not exactly, anyway. You will be scorching your fellow players, however. If you've ever been interested in farming up some Bloody Coins on the Timeless Isle but didn't understand how it all worked, Esoth has a complete guide for you on how to go about doing just that. You first have to find Speaker Gulan and pony up 1000 timeless coins for a Censer of Eternal Agony, and then the fun (if you like killing players of every faction) begins. While I won't try and recap all of Esoth's article here (you should definitely go read it, it's very comprehensive) I will point out a fact I learned from reading it - while under the influence of the Censer, not only are you hostile to all players (Horde or Alliance) who are not under its influence, you are friendly to all players who are - meaning that your undead rogue using the Censer will be friendly to that gnome warrior who had the same idea to go farming for bloody coins. Shakes of the zombie invasion, eh? So head on over to Esoth's write up if you're feeling like spreading some mayhem. And remember, don't complain when we gang up on you and kill you sixty times in a row so we can get back to farming elites. You asked for it.

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Lichborne for blood, frost, and unholy death knights. In the post-Cataclysm era, death knights are no longer the new kids on the block. Let's show the other classes how a hero class gets things done. This week brings us to the end of our patch 5.4 raid gear guide as we take on Garrosh and the bosses guarding him. In addition, we'll take a quick look at what the world bosses of this patch have to offer a death knight. The disclaimers from previous weeks still apply, so keep those in mind. Read on for the breakdown.

  • Zarhym on the legendary cloak and its boss

There's a number of people are concerned about needing the legendary cloak to fight the Fire-God Ordos, a special boss accessible on the Timeless Isle. Those people with the concern raise the point that this is essentially cutting off a significant portion of the game to those without the cloak -- or at least what they feel is a significant portion of the game. Except, it's not a big portion of the game. It's one boss, and a rather insignificant one (in the grand scheme of things) at that. Further, players that have put in the year long effort to actually get the legendary cloak deserve some sort of reward for their troubles. And while the awesome cloak is certainly part of that reward, getting to experience a different boss is a nice added bonus. Zarhym makes this point well in a post on the forms, and it's worth taking a few minutes to read his words. He also makes a great point at the end -- getting the legendary now through SoO farming is just as viable as working on it over the past year (and it's entirely possible to do that). Now it might be a point of pride to have worked on it over the long haul, but still, he is correct in saying it's just as cool no matter when you pick it up. Zarhym's full post after the break.

  • The Queue: Lacking in chronology

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today. After Rich in Dextrose, I decided my next header for The Queue should be something a little more grounded. Naturally, I chose a dragon. That flies. I guess I'm using the dwarven flightmaster definition of grounded. Ron2 asked: Could a Warlock and two other people with legendary capes summon somebody to Ordos's area?

There's something to be said for open-ended exploration in World of Warcraft. One of my favorite experiences so far has been bopping around the Isle of Giants, just sort of looking around at all the dinosaurs (cause, well, you know, dinosaurs) and it seems that in patch 5.4, we're going to get an even more involved place to check out with The Timeless Isle. World bosses? Check, including one that requires a legendary cape to access (and who drops a pair of shoulders I'm invested in) as well as rare mobs that anyone, even Horde and Alliance, can work together to bring down and get some loot. If you want to make friends with Emperor Shaohao, run around attacking everything in sight, or just check out a new landscape the Timeless Isle has things for you to do. If you want, you can even click the Censer of Eternal Agony and flag for PvP even with people in your own faction. By necessity I'm leaving out tons, so head on over to Blizzard and check it out for yourself.

  • Patch 5.4 PTR: Legendary Cloak restriction lightened for Ordos

Ordos is a new world boss located on the Timeless Isle zone, a new island zone added in patch 5.4 to the south-east of the Jade Forest, out in the sea. Where islands usually hang out. According to previous information, Ordos was a boss only accessible by players who had the Legendary cloak. This restriction has now been lifted somewhat, as Blizzard Community Manager Lore notes in the forums: Lore Just as an update to this: We're planning to change the restriction for access to Ordos to be account-wide. Basically, as long as at least one of your characters has a legendary cloak, all of them should be able to access the encounter. source This, it seems is a vast improvement, and will make it an awful lot easier for players to find groups to kill Ordos. He's not the hardest boss to take down, but he does have a five-minute soft enrage, so you'll need to be putting out some considerable numbers to get through his health pool, or to have a group that's on the larger side. As a result of this, it seems like a good plan to make it easier to put groups together. What's more, it means you might be able to take out Ordos with your friends. He seems to be a little bugged on the PTR at present, as I was able to pull him several times with a group, and certainly do not have a legendary cloak on any character! I had fully expected to be kicked off the platform, but wasn't. This will definitely change for live, though!
