Crafted from 1,000 (or 3,000, depending on who you talk to) smartphones, Huawei's symybol for this year's MWC proudly stands in squarely in the middle of the mobile madness. However, the chinese handset manufacturer still remains a bit of a dark horse in this year's selection of OEM fillies.Update: We've added a gallery below and a short video after the break.%Gallery-149616%Myriam Joire contributed to this report.

  • EverQuest introduces pegasuses (pegasi?) to the Marketplace

Citizens of Norrath, have you ever wanted to soar about the land on the back of a horse that, inexplicably, has wings? If you answered yes, then you think about some awfully specific things. Also, you're in luck. Sony Online Entertainment has announced that your dreams can now come true, as a number of pegasus mounts have been added to EverQuest's Marketplace. Yeah, that's right, it's going to cost you a bit of cash, but isn't it worth it to fly around on a frilly little equine-avian hybrid? Of course it is, now hush and go look at the pictures in the gallery below. %Gallery-136397%

  • Apple Thunderbolt cable, Promise RAIDs now available to get your 10Gbps interconnect on

Was it really four months ago that Intel and Apple took the curtains off of Thunderbolt I/O? The MacBook Pro and iMac lines have since been refreshed with the interconnect, but early adopters haven't had much more than a fancy port to stare at. Thankfully, Apple's $49 T-bolt cable is finally available as your ticket to the 10Gbps superhighway. Apparently, it quietly hit Apple's web store this morning along with some fresh Promise Pegasus RAID enclosures ($1k for 4TB up to $2K for 12TB) to support it. All of the peripherals appear to be in stock and ready to ship; so if you've been eagerly waiting to make use of that extra port, now's your chance.

  • Intel refutes Apple exclusivity for Thunderbolt I/O, LaCie and Promise detail first Thunderbolt peripherals

We can think of a pretty good reason why Apple might have a head-start when it comes to Thunderbolt-capable machines, but Apple doesn't actually have a timed exclusive on the technology, at least according to Intel PR. The company told us that while it's currently targeting an early 2012 launch for Thunderbolt with other OEMs -- whereas the new MacBook Pro has Thunderbolt right now -- there's nothing stopping other manufacturers from launching machines with the 10Gbps interconnect a good bit earlier if they so desire. In related news, the first Thunderbolt peripherals have just been formally announced -- the Promise Pegasus RAID array we saw spitting out 800MB / sec video streams, and the LaCie Little Big Disk. The former will come in four-bay and six-bay variants, topping out at 12TB of magnetic storage when it arrives in Q2, and the latter will boast a pair of Intel 510 Series SSDs -- which, by the way, have yet to be formally announced -- in RAID 0 for 500GB of storage in total. Did you ever think you'd see a bus or a subway train in the fantasy world of TERA? Apparently some community members have, as a recent discussion translated from the game's Korean website makes clear. Aside from the pegasus flightpath system that takes players from cities to quest hubs in the current beta client, no information on mounts in En Masse Entertainment's upcoming action MMO has been released. That said, TERAfans has managed to dig up a posting by Korean community manager Tree in which he solicits community feedback on the types of mounts desired. In other news, En Masse has released its latest Screenshots of the Week featurette, this time taking us to the cities of Velika and Castanica. Check them out in our gallery below or on the official website. %Gallery-96720%

  • Apple CDMA iPhone 4 rumor given new wings

With the iPad unicorn now slain, what other beast can DigiTimes shackle its rumor mongering machine to? How about Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology (and inspiration for the ASUS company name) galloping forth with promises of a CDMA iPhone. According to the Taiwanese rumor rag, Pegatron (ASUStek's OEM manufacturing arm) will begin shipping a CDMA version of the iPhone 4 from its Shanghai plants to Apple in Q4. Right, just in time for the holiday shopping season and perfectly aligned with Apple's annual September iPod event... you know, should Apple want to announce a deal with Verizon.

Ah, leaked company presentation slides, they have a clarity only Mr. Blurrycam would despise. EETimes got a batch of them from Samsung dated November 2009 making the rounds, but more important than revealing its equal love for both Roman and Greek mythology, we get a glimpse at its then-planned ARM chip roadmap (yeah, another one) through 2013. In a nutshell, for the Cortex A9 crowd we've got the 800MHz dual core "Orion" due for mass production in Q1 2011, a 1GHz single core "Pegasus" for Q4 2011, a 1GHz dual core "Hercules" for Q1 2012, and for sometime in 2012 / 2013, a 1.2GHz dual core "Draco" and quad core "Aquila." Fear not, Cortex A5 fanatics, you've got gifts as well, in the form of 600MHz single core "Mercury" and dual core "Venus" chips, slated for 2010 / 2011 and 2012 / 2013, respectively. We don't expect the nomenclature to extend beyond internal usage, but frankly, who cares -- it's the devices that count, and unfortunately all we can do is doodle our future gadget hopes and dreams onto scraps of paper while we wait.

The Free Realms team has been crazy busy at work lately creating all manner of new things that players have been clamoring for. With the recent addition of dragon and dinosaur mounts came the call for horses for players to ride. As such, they introduced new horse mounts, but then added even more fun in the form of pegasus rides as well! The horses are available for members to pick up at 450 Station Cash each. The White-Nosed Mares are colored in fantasy-like style -- pink, purple, blue, pure white and more -- while the Stallion model features more traditional horse colors like gray, black, tan, and chestnut. Pegasus rides, on the other hand, are available at 550 Station Cash, and come in lilac, blue-black, gray, pink, sea-foam green, and white.

  • Tabula Rasa server merge to affect US servers only

    by
    James Egan
    James Egan
    02.21.2009

We've mentioned in the past that NCsoft plans to merge all four Tabula Rasa servers into one, before the final shutdown on February 28th. Their plan has changed somewhat, as only the three U.S. servers (Pegasus; Orion; Cassiopeia) will be merged into a consolidated server called Hydra. NCsoft will perform a data capture on Monday, and it may take up to 48 hours beyond that before Hydra is active. NCsoft says, "This means that characters will appear to 'time warp' back to Monday at 12:01 AM on the new server. We do not recommend doing anything irreversible to your character after Monday's data capture, as we are not absolutely confirming the server merge at this time. We will release more details, as well as a final conformation of the server merge, early next week." Tabula Rasa's European server, Centarus, is not being included in the server merge, and as such will have a separate 'sunset' event for European time zones.

It's hard to stop a rolling stone, don't you know? Just months after you figured you'd never hear of Rock again, the recently rescued outfit has introduced a few Centrino 2-based lappies of its own. At a high level (tenth time you've heard that today, office dwellers?), we've got the Xtreme 780 with a Core 2 Duo Extreme X9100 and GeForce 9800M GTX, the Xtreme 620 with a Core 2 Extreme T9500 and 512MB GeForce 9800M GT, the Pegasus 520 and the Pegasus 320. As for pricing, you can expect a mild level of sticker shock when the crew goes up for pre-order later today. There's generally very little fun about commuting in, but can you imagine how cool it would be to head in to work or school on the back of a pegasus? Well, as one of our regulars here on One Shots found out this weekend, this is just one of many ways to get around in Vanguard. Wookers (normally one of our Lord of the Rings Online contributors) grabbed this lovely screenshot while he was flying off to a new adventure there. Now that's the way to travel!Do you have an interesting screenshot from a game we don't generally get to give love to here? Something a bit off the beaten path? If so, gather those screenshots up and send them to us here at oneshots AT massively.com! We love to see lots of new worlds -- especially those we don't see often.%Gallery-9798%

  • TR players take PvP up a notch

    by
    Chris Chester
    Chris Chester
    03.03.2008

In lieu of a more structured PvP system like the one the developer's have promised in future patches, some Tabula Rasa players have taken the initiative and decided to start their own community event on the Pegasus server. Dubbed "The Supremacy Circuit," the tournament will take place over five weeks and will feature four different tiers of combatants based on level. The tiers go by a strict level cap of 15, 30, 40, and 50 for each respective tier. On the designated nights, participants assemble in their teams of four and go at it in the Irendas Penal Colony.Registration will remain open until March 29, giving you plenty of time to level a character to your desired tier. The actual circuit doesn't begin until April 5. Players are allowed to field hybrid characters, though each team is restricted to a single character of any one class in their four active participants. No word yet on what the prizes will be for the winning team in each tier, though it probably wouldn't be too much of a stretch to expect a good chunk of in-game cash, and if the developers pay attention, perhaps even some berets as well. Planet TR has a sub-forum specifically dedicated to the event, so head on over there to find out more detailed information and sign up.

  • New patch for TR on PTS

    by
    Chris Chester
    Chris Chester
    02.21.2008

Tabula Rasa's long-awaited patch 1.5 has finally entered the process of rolling out (at least, we assume it's 1.5 - it's called 1.5.4 on the update screen, but the notes make no mention of it), as the Destination Games crew has released a new build onto the public test server, and the patch notes along with it. Just a note before you drop what you're doing and go try and log into the PTS, it appears as though only those on the Pegasus server got their characters copied over this time around, so suckers like me on Orion will just get to QQ for another week or so.There's a lot of small changes, but some of the ones that most immediately stuck out to us were: Green, Blue, and Purple Healing Discs and Repair Tools now offer +20%, +40%, and +60% effectiveness like other equipment. Since itemization finally became a big deal, Specialists have had to put up with repair tools that were not as proportionately effective as their weapon counterparts. I've never actually seen a blue or purple repair tool though, so presumably those will be added as rewards. You should no longer be stunned for a significant duration after standing up from a knockback. This may not sound big, but it's a pet-peeve of most players. Thrax have a habit of kicking players in the face, which takes an inordinate amount of time to recover from. We're also getting reports on the Planet TR forums that boss drops have increased significantly, and now drop named items. This is a big (and welcome!) change, as bosses were rarely worth the trouble in previous versions. We'll have more on this patch as it develops. Check out the full patch notes after the jump.

  • TR guilds say game over to the endgame

    by
    Chris Chester
    Chris Chester
    02.16.2008

One of the biggest criticisms levied at NCsoft's sci-fi MMO Tabula Rasa is that it is, in many respects, an incomplete game. The Specialist tree has undergone months of retooling and tweaking to be made truly viable, the disparate amount of content in the mid to late levels has been the cause for considerable concern, and it's fairly well known that the game lacks a significant endgame. It's this latter point that has caused a crisis of sorts on the Pegasus server. Both Defiance and Tranquility, two of the larger endgame guilds on the server (or so we're told), have decided to call it quits because of the barren state of the end-game. All there is to do once you've hit the level gap is PvP. Problem is, the PvP in Tabula Rasa is pretty broken, and the development team hasn't shown much interest in fixing it in the near future. Or if they have, they haven't done a terribly good job of communicating that.

  • Tabula Rasa 'Blind Race' community event next weekend

    by
    Chris Chester
    Chris Chester
    02.03.2008

MMO players are famous for the ability to come up with strange and often bewildering ideas for in-game events. Whether you're talking about naked gnome raids on Ironforge, naked races across a continent, or a large group punching a whole zone into submission ... while naked, MMOs and community events just go hand in hand. I suppose we shouldn't be surprised then to find that dinoroger on the Planet TR forums is trying to arrange a "Blind Race" on the Pegasus server for next Saturday. The basic gist of it is that each team will be composed of two players, a racer and a coach. The racer will be instructed to turn off his monitor, and attempt to race through a series of objectives as quickly as possible. The coach will be tasked with guiding the racer using Ventrillo or any other voice chat program. Motor Assist Armor and five pumps in the sprint ability are heartily recommended. The event is just for fun, so there won't be any prizes for the winners beyond the requisite bragging rights, but it could be potentially amusing if enough players decide to take part. And who knows, maybe the weekend after that there'll be potato sack races!

  • Tabula Rasa clan punches their way to victory

    by

    01.10.2008

I suppose you could debate the raw salience of this video to the greater news-hungry public but... well, we're not all always entirely serious around here. And speaking personally, anything played sped up to the Benny Hill theme song is usually good for at least a chuckle from me. The video you see before you is the Invictus clan on Tabula Rasa's Pegasus server making a naked holiday-themed rampage through the leafy planet of Foreas. While naked clan runs are hardly particular to Tabula Rasa (though this is among the first we've seen up on YouTube), what's particularly impressive is that Invictus was able to do their fellow members of the Allied Free Sentients a service and take over a couple capture points while they were at it. I suppose it speaks to the enduring power of humanity that a group of determined, albeit naked, humans can punch their way to victory. So now we've seen them free the Wilderness from the Bane's icy grasp. Can we get a naked Mires going soon?

  • Tabula Rasa launch: how it went

    by

    11.05.2007

It's now over three days since Tabula Rasa went retail, so I thought I'd cover the kind of launch and reception that it's received so far.Let's face it: MMO launch servers are notorious for spending their first couple of days offline -- but in a surprise twist, I'm still yet to encounter any of the TR servers going down for more than a second. Having said that, the game seems to have attracted a lot more players than NCsoft were expecting -- the solitary EU server in particular has been almost continuously maximum population since day one, and starting today I've had to queue up to enter. Not cool. There's also been major lag on the EU server at peak times with so many players logged in at once.In more continental news, there's a large French (and German) community on Centaurus, both of which are obviously keen on getting their own language-specific server. A second or third EU server at very least is badly needed, but as yet there's been no announcement from NCsoft. Over on the US servers, things have been a lot more stable -- so much so, I've already decided to skip over to Pegasus.Overall, I've been quite surprised by how enthusiastic the reception Tabula Rasa has received from players in-game has been. Opinions were divided in the beta prior to launch, and I personally thought the game was being launched early -- but the TR crew have cleared up the code, improved framerates, and given the game the extra layer of polish needed. By polish, yes, I *do* mean wearable shades. The chat interface is still awful, though.(Note -- there's almost no reviews for RGTR up at present, but once a sufficient amount have hit the Internet, we'll throw up a Joystiq-style metareview for your enjoyment.)

  • Rock making HD DVD standard on select laptops

Although Toshiba has been quite a player in bringing HD DVD to more and more laptops, Rock is now boasting that it is the first company to "feature HD DVD as standard" on lappies. Granted, it's only standard on select machines, but at least it's a start. The firm's Pegasus 670 features the obligatory HD DVD reading / DVD writing drive along with a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 processor, a 15.4-inch WSXGA panel, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, NVIDIA's 512MB GeForce 8600M GT graphics card, WiFi, gigabit Ethernet, and Windows Vista. The higher-end Xtreme 770 is available with most of the same specs, save for the 512MB GeForce 8700M GT, 17-inch WSXGA+ display and a number of additional ports. An HD DVD-equipped Rock laptop can be yours for as low as £999 ($2,037), but if your credit card is up for some pain, you can ratchet that figure way on up.[Via Stuff]Read - Pegasus 670Read - Xtreme 770

  • ASUS reveals Pegasus Pocket PC phone

    01.17.2007

There's not a whole lot of details to go on here, but it looks like the iF Design Awards got the first look at ASUS's latest Pocket PC phone, with the Unwired View blog spotting these two pics of the candybar-style handset. Dubbed Pegasus (a throwback to the origin of the company's name), the phone appears to be a slightly slimmed down revision to ASUS's P525 smartphone, measuring in at a mere 0.6 inches thick while still packing built-in GPS and a camera of unspecified megapixels. Otherwise, about all that's known about the device is that it's Windows Mobile-based, has a full numeric keypad and jog dial, and supposedly has a brushed aluminum finish and diamond-cut edges, although it's tough to discern that from the pics. For the rest of the specs, not to mention details on pricing or availability, it looks like we'll just to wait for a more official announcement.
