Nintendo still has a stack of 3DS games in the pipeline
Nintendo Switch titles ARMS and Splatoon 2 headlined today's Nintendo Direct presentation, but they weren't the only games with news to reveal. The studio has a solid lineup of games coming to the 3DS this year.
The next 'Pikmin' game is a Nintendo 3DS side-scroller
It's been well over a year since Shigeru Miyamoto teased us with the possibility of a Pikmin 4, and during today's Nintendo Direct stream, the company announced... something else. The company closed out its 2017 line-up with a new, unnamed Pikmin adventure for 3DS. Okay, it's not the full sequel we were hoping for, but it looks pretty darn cute.
'Pikmin 4' is not only real, but nearly finished
You may have had to wait the better part of a decade to get a third Pikmin game, but its follow-up won't take nearly so long. Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed to Eurogamer that his company is not only working on Pikmin 4, but that it's "very close to completion." Surprise! Mind you, that's about all that Miyamoto is willing to divulge at this point. He's not talking about release dates, game mechanics (hint: it probably involves marshaling Pikmin) or even the choice of platform. Will this be one of the first games for the upcoming NX system, a swan song for the Wii U, or something else? Whatever the answer, you'll have to sit tight and hope that Nintendo does justice to its cult favorite game franchise. [Image credit: Daniel Boczarski/WireImage]
Pikmin shorts to debut at Tokyo International Film Festival
Variety reports that Pikmin Short Movies, a collection of animated shorts produced by Pikmin series creator Shigeru Miyamoto, will debut at the Tokyo International Film Festival. Sometime during the festival's run from October 25 - 31, Miyamoto will hold a presentation with Dwango head Nobuo Kawakami, which is the parent company of livestreaming service Nico Nico Douga. Pikmin Short Movies is comprised of three animated shorts; "The Night Juicer," a scene that plays with the idea of Captain Olimar blending up Pikmin, "Treasures in a Bottle," which involves an odd treasure, and "Occupational Hazards," which plays out at a construction site. We first learned that Miyamoto was working on Pikmin cartoons a year ago, when they were still planned to be released before Pikmin 3. At the time, Miyamoto mused that they may end up on the 3DS' Nintendo Video service or be sold on the eShop. [Image: Nintendo]
Pikmin 3 trailer tours new mission mode DLC levels
Nintendo issued a new trailer to show off the latest set of downloadable content for Pikmin 3, which launched this week. Announced during a Nintendo Direct livestream in November, the DLC offers players the opportunity to play as the protagonist of the first two games in the series, Captain Olimar, for one level. The three extra content packs amount to four battle and four treasure remixed stages for $1.99 each, as well as a mission mode map pack with eight brand new environments for $4.99. The downloadable levels include Clockwork Chasm, which has an abundance of gears and conveyor belts, as well as the holiday-themed Fortress of Festivity. Those that update Pikmin 3 will receive four of the mission mode stages for free.
Guide Captain Olimar through new Pikmin 3 DLC in December
Pikmin 3 will receive a new set of stages on December 2, Nintendo announced today during a Nintendo Direct livestream. Unlike previous pieces of downloadable content for the game, the third round of content will be entirely new stages as opposed to new spins on previously-released levels. The DLC will include four treasure stages and four battle stages with locales like a construction site and mystery factory. Some of the stages will allow players to control Captain Olimar, the main protagonist of Pikmin and Pikmin 2. The DLC will arrive along with a required update for the game, and will grant players free access to one collect treasure stage and one battle enemies stage for free in the Fortress of Festivity part of the game.

Upon updating the game, players can access one free downloadable mission as well. Update: To clarify, the Collect Treasure pack consists of four stages, and will cost $1.99 on the Nintendo eShop.
Super Smash Bros. roster blooms with Captain Olimar & Pikmin
Captain Olimar, joined by his ever-faithful Pikmin pals, is the latest Nintendo star to sign up for the new Super Smash Bros. and going by the screenshots he's bringing a new Pikmin stage with him. Olimar first joined the series in Brawl on the Wii, and with Pikmin 3 just weeks away, it's no surprise to now see him unveiled for the Wii U and 3DS Smash, due next year. Miyamoto working on Pikmin cartoons
Shigeru Miyamoto is working on translating the Pikmin series into animated shorts. The Nintendo executive showed one episode of his new project to Polygon last week. Olimar appears to be blending Pikmin into a delicious smoothie during the episode, but is actually blending up non-sentient carrots."When Olimar first discovered the Pikmin he named them based on the PikPik brand carrots in his home world, so he clearly loves carrots," Miyamoto said. "I thought it would be fun to have a scenario where it seems like he is going to eat the Pikmin. So it's kind of dark, but he doesn't eat them."The project comes from Miyamoto's desire to "give more life to the Pikmin characters," and is structured like brief 4-panel comics. The original episode and the Pikmin-themed logo animation recently shown in Japan's Toho theaters were made by Nintendo with the help of an animation studio. The Pikmin shorts will be released "sometime before the release of Pikmin 3," Miyamoto said, putting it somewhere in the first half of 2013. According to him, they may appear on the 3DS video service, or Nintendo may sell the shorts on the eShop.
Pikmin 3 media gets away from the hustle and bustle of the big city
Living in the big city is great and all, but sometimes you just need to get away to the country. Pikmin 3 will offer lush locales to do just that – though the forest may be tranquil, it is not without its own unique set of dangers, seen in this trailer and screens direct from E3.%Gallery-157147%

Miyamoto promises Pikmin reveal at E3 2012
In addition to a new Mario, Nintendo is bringing at least one more Nintendo game to E3. Shigeru Miyamoto has been discussing a new Pikmin game for some time, and we may finally get a first glimpse of it during this year's annual Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. In an interview with Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Miyamoto confirmed that Nintendo is finally ready to unveil the next entry in the series. A Nintendo representative offered additional comments to Game Informer, stating that Miyamoto thinks "anyone who has played Pikmin games in the past will enjoy playing."
Miyamoto: Pikmin in the works for Wii U
Nintendo's almost getting in the habit of announcing Pikmin games at its E3 developer roundtable events. Speaking to attendees this evening, Shigeru Miyamoto explained that while development of a new Pikmin began on Wii, it has since been moved to the company's new console, the Wii U. Miyamoto described it as "the perfect system for Pikmin," though tried to distance himself from turning this into a corporate announcement. His non-corporate side, Miyamoto said, "really just wants to tell you we're working on Pikmin." Since the game has been in the works for some time, Captain Olimar and his plant-like companions won't dally "too long" before they touch down in your perilous garden.

Pikmin just as awesome in Lego form
Filip Felberg is kind of like Mr. Miyagi, but instead of masterfully pruning bonsai (and training kids to take down Cobra Kai), he makes awesome stuff out of Lego. His flickr page shows us his latest fixation: Nintendo's Pikmin. He's remade Olimar (and his ship), along with many of the enemies encountered in the game, to great effect. His creations strike an amazing resemblance to their in-game counterparts, and we totally wouldn't mind having a few of these on our desk. How about you?[Via GameSetWatch]

Punch-Out!! coming first half 2009, and more US / Europe Nintendo release dates
Nintendo has dropped a bob-omb of release dates for 2009 (via Videogamer). While mostly vague launch windows -- some of which will still likely be missed -- New Play Control! Pikmin and Mario Tennis will hit Europe February 6 and March 3, respectively, with the US getting both sometime in March. Other notable titles include Pokemon Platinum (March 22 for US, sometime 2009 for Europe) and Punch-Out!! (first half of 2009 for both regions).Additionally, the Big N said Europeans will be able to welcome the DSi into their homes sometime this spring or summer -- not exactly the most narrow window there, and nothing we haven't already heard since president Satoru Iwata said the portable would be launching worldwide by summer 2009. Check out the the full list for Europe and US after the break.
