Our sister-sites Joystiq and PS3Fanboy managed to get some new information and pictures for Sony's Home at E3 last week. The biggest piece of news is somewhat disappointing -- public areas in Home are region locked. You can still visit anyone's private area, but outdoor mingling will be restricted. On the bright side, we are treated to a gallery of the "Game Spaces" for two of the PS3's biggest hits, Warhawk and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. These Game Spaces are decorated with apparel relating to the game's they're based on, and feature interactive elements. Warhawk's room has a sand-table to formulate strategies with friends for an upcoming game. The Uncharted room has a locked door that can be opened after visitors discover a secret code, as well as a platforming mini-game to play.

Hey everyone, you may recall a while back we set up a request for assistance. While many people applied, we had to keep trimming the fat (so to speak) until we came up with just handful of ambitious new bloggers. So, without further ado, may we introduce the first new hire to complete his application, contract, and whatever else? Yes, we may. Welcome, Colin Torretta! May you serve us well. Our other two hires, Peter Vrabel and Jem Alexander, will be splitting their time here with sister site PSP Fanboy. Colin's going to focus here for now. How's about a round of applause? We'd also like to take this time to update our readers on the site itself. We're going to change some things around here! First up, we're going to introduce some recurring weekly dealies, like a weekly poll, weekly fan-art/mailbag/whatever, a weekly best-of-the-week round-up, some questions to generate discussion, among others. We're also going to start monitoring our comments section a little more closely. If someone's blatantly assaulting someone else (regardless of console conviction), the comment will get deleted. All you gotta do is make sure you're at least offering up an opinion relevant to the post. That's it, really. How about we give Colin a big "hooooooowdy-ho"?

UK retailer GAME may have accidentally leaked a crucial tidibt about the upcoming PS3 version of SingStar. The karaoke game allows wannabe performers to record their performances with EyeToy and post them online to a personal SingStar page. In addition, players will also be able to save their recordings to PSP, to share with friends at any time. With both a PSP system and SingStar handy, you'll be able to show off your next embarassing karaoke performance forever.Gallery: SingStar (PS3)[Thanks, Ben!]

Mmm, Dragon Quest references. Well, you guys have noticed it for just as long as we have: PS3 Fanboy is understaffed and we need to get our ratio of writers to popularity in order! Let's start the briefing, brave soldiers. Keep in mind, if you read this post and honestly can say that the designations don't apply to you (on all four counts -- we're all guilty of one or two), you might be qualified to join the fight ... for our right ... to write.Okay, time for a list, along with bold questions. Well, the font is bold ... the questions are fairly typical:

This is a must-have for any Sony fanboy and can be found via DCEmu (registration required). For those of you that are hesitant on registration, feel free to download it directly here.

Hey guys, this is a post to tell you a bit about the new comment system. We're really excited about it and hope it makes our readers able to comment more and more so we can get an increased sense of what you think about all the crazy articles we do here. A few things need to be explained, though.First and foremost, this is a work in progress, so there will still be a few kinks to work out. First off, your user password. This is the password you got in your first confirmation email -- write it down! As of yet, you're unable to change it. That'll be fixed as soon as the other, more major, bugs are worked out. This login works on all of our sites, be it Joystiq, XBox360Fanboy, etc.Sometimes the URL's get a little messed up. It happens and we apologize. Sometimes your name doesn't show up the right way. We apologize. In all, we're working on it but want to thank you guys for the continued support you've poured into this site. Without it, we'd probably be buried in a landfill somewhere, next to all of those E.T. Atari titles. Thanks guys!

  • Sony's brand is still going strong

While browsing gaming sites and blogs, its hard to remember that we're part of a very small audience: the hardcore gaming crowd. Most people will stay far away from us, and won't be susceptible to internet memes about Sony's "failures" with the PS3 and PSP. While many will troll forums telling us of Sony's doom, it appears that the mass market hasn't noticed at all.A recent survey of more than 2,000 individuals places Sony's brand in 9th place for "winners of 2006," in between two huge American icons: the NFL and Oprah. Even with exploding batteries and real-time weapons changing, people expect Sony to have an even better 2007. Naysayers can put their styluses away for now: Sony isn't going to disappear any time soon.[Via DCemu]

  • Tekken appears on PS3 with more features, for less money

I reported earlier that Tekken: Dark Resurrection would appear on PlayStation 3 as a downloadable title via the PlayStation Store. It looks like the game's finally out... in Japan. The monstrous 830MB download features all the functionality of the PSP version of the game, such as ghost battling, but now comes in glorious 1080P full-HD. To add insult to injury, there's multiplayer included (no need for multiple machines and discs!), and the cost: a measly 2000 yen ($17).Some of you disagreed with my prediction that the PS3 version would be cheaper. Looks like Sony's trend is to release PSP games... and then make them better and cheaper on the PS3. Does that sound fair to you?[Via Joystiq]

  • GripShift remixed on PS3; PSP owners to get sequel

    by

    12.19.2006

IGN blogger chubigans had the chance to talk to GripShift executive producer, Mario Wynands. Gripshift joins a number of games, such as Tekken: Dark Resurrection that are making the leap from PSP to PLAYSTATION 3. The "racing platformer" will feature some obvious improvements, such as HD visuals and real-time lighting, on the next-gen console. However, PSP owners need not fret that they're being ignored. Mr. Wynands states, "It is definitely our intention to produce a full sequel of GripShift for PSP." While a sequel is exciting, what gets me truly revved up is the potential for a new original IP, something the PSP is certainly not unfamiliar with: " For PSP in particular, it's been interesting. We've certainly seen some great new IPs hit the handheld, made possible by the PSP being powerful but relatively cheap to develop for in comparison to console and also with a solid user base in place... We intend bringing more original IP to the PSP platform."For the rest of this lengthy and revealing interview, head over to Club IGN.

  • Advanced Remote Play functionality coming in March

    by

    12.13.2006

Remote Play is one of the more exciting things about the PS3-PSP connectivity. It's a nifty feature that allows you to access your PS3's media via PSP. While cool in theory, in practice, there's too many restrictions. Firstly, the PS3 can't do anything else when in Remote Play mode. Secondly, you have to be in range of the PS3's wi-fi. Finally, you can only access media stored on hard drive (no games, or disc media!).It appears that a future firmware upgrade in March will address some of these issues. The future PLAYSTATION 3 upgrade promises multi-tasking, which should help address the first concern. Secondly, you'll be able to access your PS3's media from any internet connection, a la LocationFree Player. Certainly, this is a strong step forward. With the PS3 gaining Tivo-like functionality later next year, the PSP may be the perfect media device for people on the go. Imagine: you could record Battlestar Galactica when you're away, only to watch it from your PSP whenever you're near a wi-fi spot. The future of PS3-PSP connectivity is certainly exciting.[Via IGN Boards]

  • About that new PS3Fanboy banner...

    12.06.2006

All right, well, my boss and I have tried and tried to get answers, but our voices are about as loud as if we were in outer space... where no one can hear you complain. This is in reference to the new PS3Fanboy banner that for some reason still hasn't been implemented. This post is, basically, a type of petition asking for answers. I've heard the question at least thirty-two bazillion times: "so, liek, where iz da n00 banner dumMy?" If your spelling was better than that, consider that what the question looks like in my mind... it's become deformed from being asked so many times. This is your time to rally together and to ask as a collective unit and not just as a single comment, "Where the hell is the new PS3Fanboy banner?" You don't have to ask that exact question as your comment, but getting a great response would be helpful here. C'mon, guys, don't ignore the plight of PS3Fanboy! We sponsored a contest and we want to give the winner their due. This makes us look bad and not those responsible and that's not fair. Now, readers, leave us a comment asking where that banner is -- get it out of your system because I can't bear to hear it anymore. There's no excuse that we've still got an abandoned prototype PS3 controller as our banner. No excuse.

  • Contest! Create a new banner for PS3Fanboy!

You've all constantly e-mailed us with "You know, you still have the boomerang controller at the top of the page..." along with other such nudges to get a new banner. When we say constantly, we mean constantly. Well, we've finally gotten the thumbs up from the higher ups and guess what? We can get a new banner. However, we need your help. This site is powered by you, the readers, so we think it should be up to you guys to decide what our banner will look like. Essentially, it's a banner contest! The prize? Being able to see your banner at the top of this page every time you log on. Respect from peer for being the most badass banner designer person around. Here are some basic specs to get you started: Our site (thus the header) is about 900 pixels wide, so keep it to that... but if necessary, we can crank it to 1,000. We need the name, the "Joystiq presents" graphic, the "stronger, faster" tagline, and a compelling graphic of some kind, obviously. If you can, leave room for the subscription links at the top. Not necessary -- we can move those. As you can see on the current site, the controller goes over the google link stuff a little. The google area though is 728 px wide, so any design elements can only overlap it if it's on either side of that 728px area. At the current width, there's 86px on either side, at 1000 there'd be 136px on either side. That's really about it. Submit your entries via the resource links (probably as a tip) whenever you finish them -- we'd like a new look before the PS3 launch, but if we get a lot of response/entries, we'll fix it up a bit sooner for you! Good luck!

  • Is that a PSP in your PlayStation 3?

Sony's been hyping up PlayStation 3's connectivity with the PSP. Game Watch took this picture of the PS3's XMB, revealing a happy PSP icon in the Network menu called "Remote Play". As previously stated, you'll be able to stream data onto your PSP from your PS3, such as video and game content. For example, if you want to throw one of the most expensive console multiplayer games ever, you could wirelessly connect four PSPs to your PSP and start playing (that's $1400 of hardware, baby! Of course, this is just speculation, and will most likely never happen). PSP-Vault also goes into some speculation, hoping for the ability to stream Blu-Ray movies to the PSP, and UMD movies to the PS3. The possibilties are endless, and we hope that Sony takes advantage of that huge potential.PSP fans better start saving up: and they better save up a lot. The $500 PS3 does not feature wi-fi capabilties, so for PSP-PS3 connectivity to be fully realized, you'll have to go all the way.

Capcom announced intentions of bringing Dante to the PSP a long, long time ago. Since then, we haven't even heard a murmur of a PSP version of Devil May Cry. Well, according to Jeux France, our fears can be rested: Devil May Cry for PSP will be coming. No new details were revealed, but the website has detailed scans from Famitsu of the upcoming PS3 sequel, Devil May Cry 4: The Awesomeness.(Disclaimer: That subtitle's not real. It's what I like to call a "joke.")

If you were able to continue reading without habitually clicking links, they all go to the same place. Have fun and congrats, fellow Sony-supporter site.

Sure, we're supposed to love the Xbox 360, with its sexy inhale design, smooth white plastic, curvy wireless controller... droooool...Where was I? Oh yeah, introducing the newest member of Joystiq's dysfunctional Fanboy family: PS3 Fanboy! Since I have a flair for hyperbole, I'll extend the family metaphor far past its usefulness by comparing the PS3 to a younger sibling. Sure, the Xbox 360 console has been around for near six months already, but lets not jump to criticize our younger brother, the PS3. After all, it's young and still not sure how to behave. But we understand, it's hard to define yourself and make your own path with a cool older sibling around so they: act out (boomerang controller); dress funny (George Foreman grill); and even crib our style (Network Platform), but it's cool. Why? 'Cause they're family.
