LG G5 already has a touch-enabled Quick Cover
There's still over a week left before LG launches its newest flagship phone, but we know two things for certain: First, the G5 has an "Always On" display, and second, you will be able to get a Quick Cover case for it. The Korean company has announced that it's releasing a touch-enabled case for (in its own words) a "smartphone that does not officially exist" yet. LG says the cover is wrapped in "a unique film with a glossy metallic finish" for a luxurious feel. Also, you'll be able to take calls and control the alarm settings through its semitransparent mesh material, without having to open the case.
LG's L Series III budget smartphones tout KitKat and smart covers
LG isn't just bringing high-end smartphones like the G Pro 2 to Mobile World Congress -- it's also launching its L Series III phones for the budget-minded among us. The 3.5-inch L40, 4.5-inch L70 and 4.7-inch L90 are subtle evolutions of the Optimus L II range in terms of hardware. All of them sport faster 1.2GHz dual-core processors and refined designs that are more in line with the company's higher-end devices. There's a larger 1GB of RAM on the L70 and L90, too. However, the real stars of the show are the L Series III's software and accessories. They're some of the first big-name budget phones to run Google's efficient Android 4.4 KitKat; they're also LG's first non-flagship devices to support optional Quick Window covers, letting you check an incoming call without exposing the whole screen. There's no word as to when these third-generation handsets will hit store shelves, although they're built for markets where 3G data is the best you'll get. In other words, don't expect them to reach LTE-obsessed American carriers any time soon.
Nexus 5 bumper case and QuickCover listed as 'coming soon' on Play store
Sure, it's got a protective Gorilla Glass 3 coating, but there's only one way to really protect that new Nexus 5: cases. If you're breathlessly refreshing the Play store for a shot at ordering Google's new handset, you may want to check out the associated bumper case (available in black, grey, red and yellow) and LG's QuickCover case (in white or black) which wraps around to also safeguard that 4.95-inch screen. Both are currently listed as "coming soon," so you won't actually be able to add them to your cart. But if you find either option tempting, know that the bumper case will set you back $35, while the more luxe QuickCover is retailing for $50. That is, assuming, you were able to successfully place an order for the Nexus 5, anyway. Update: We've included a hands-on photo of the bumper (above) and one of the flip cover after the break.
LG outs Quick Cover case for the Optimus G Pro
LG's just pulled back the curtains on Quick Cover: a magnet-infused case for the Optimus G Pro. Thanks to a Smart Cover-like design, the jacket turns the smartphone's screen on when its front flap is lifted, and off when it's shut. The sleeves come in black, blue, lime green, pink and white hues reminiscent of Samsung's own flip covers, and are accompanied by a reflective cube pattern option that comes in shades of black and white. By the sound of LG's press release, wireless charging and NFC capabilities should go unhindered when hardware is dressed up with a Quick Cover. South Korean online stores and brick-and-mortar shops will soon have the solid colors available for 43,000 won ($40), while the patterned variety will ring up at 39,000 won ($36). There's no word of a release in other territories just yet, so you'll have to sit tight if the accessories strike your fancy.
