Nobody likes crabs. In various contexts, they're just a pain. So, perhaps Konami and developer Frozen Codebase are tapping into some perfect hatred here with WiiWare title Sandy Beach. Beyond the screenshots (found in the gallery below), we did get in touch with the game's producer, Eric Francksen. He tells us there are two modes in the game: One is just "free play" where players build their own castles, while the other is "crab battle." Sandy Beach's crab battle game is reminiscent of Rampart or Defend Your Castle. Players are tasked with surviving waves of pirate crabs, then rebuilding and adding defenses between waves. We were told that Konami will reveal a release date at a later time.%Gallery-31937%

Rampart game (£1.99) Joust game (£1.99) Motorstorm Time Attack Mode (free) Lair trailer (free) Haze trailer (free) Super Stardust HD trailer (free) The Darkness story trailer (free) An interview with Paul Hollywood video (free) Where to start! Yes, the games are Midway rehashes (and you know how we feel about those) but, really, it's the thought that counts. Sony are finally pulling their collective finger out and releasing some decent content to the European market. As a quick aside, we can't stop watching that Haze trailer. Honestly. It's on repeat in the background at this very moment. But what of the Motorstorm Time Attack Mode? We only just got done telling you that it has been delayed, which it has. In America, at least. For those of you about to download it, take heed. There are reports of problems occuring unless you do things in the proper order. Load Motorstorm and update to version 1.2 in the online menu, then download the Time Attack Mode and install.

  • Rampart trailer is so darn exciting!

We're kidding. Why does this need to be in HD, anyway? In any case, if you were able to think back to the days where Rampart was pretty awesome, then you'll enjoy this trailer's attempt to instill you with the notion there is some high-octane action to be found in this classic title. If you want to stroll down memory lane, watch the trailer. It does bring back memories. It was fun. But no matter how perfect a transition the game may make to the PlayStation Network, that doesn't mean it's still fun. We'll see this Thursday.

  • Rampart fortifies PSN this Thursday

The HD version of classic puzzle/action title Rampart will release on the PlayStation store May 10. This is keeping with Sony's announced titles and follows last week's release of Gauntlet II. Rampart will play in 1080p and is expected to cost $4.99 USD.Rampart charged players with creating a fortification using Tetris-style blocks and then placing cannons inside to eliminate opponents. It's certainly surprising that this game never made it to XBLA, but we'll take it on the PSN at that low cost. Enjoy the fort-building and cannon-blasting goodness tomorrow.

IGN reports that Sony is re-releasing arcade classic, Rampart, this Thursday as part of their weekly PlayStation Store update. Originally released in 1990 by Atari in the arcades (and then heavily ported to other systems), the strategy game had you building your castle while trying to destroy the enemy. The game offers four-player online play and leaderboards for the relatively meager price of $4.99. It also supports up to 1080p, but for a 17-year-old game, I'm not really sure how important that is.It's like Nick said, sometimes 1080p just doesn't really matter ...

  • SOE to bring six Midway classics to Playstation Network

In an effort to ensure that Joust will grace just about every console known to humankind, Sony Online Entertainment announced today that Mortal Kombat II, Gauntlet II, Rampart, Rampage World Tour, Championship Spirit and yes, Joust, will all be making their way to the Playstation Network. These six titles, chosen based upon their specific multiplayer strengths, will be playable online and developed by SOE themselves as opposed to a third-party company along the lines of Digital Eclipse who handled the Xbox Live Arcade ports for Midway. Dates and prices have yet to be announced beyond "early 2007," so we should have but a short wait ahead of us before we find out if someone out there listened to our own Vlad's whacky ideas concerning these classic quarter gobblers.
