Terraria made quite a splash when it launched in 2011, that its creators ended up releasing it on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Wii U and even on mobile platforms. The 2D sandbox action-adventure title was so warmly received that indie developer Re-Logic announced that it's working on a sequel three years ago. Sadly, you'll have to make do with the original game, because Re-Logic has decided to cancel Terraria: Otherworld's development.

Re-Logic's 2D sandbox exploration game Terraria expands its reach to yet another platform with today's launch of an Xbox One port. Terraria arrives on the Xbox One with a bevy of new items and characters not featured in last year's Xbox 360 version, including new construction components, pets, NPCs, and bosses. Over 1,000 new items are included in all, putting it on par with the recently launched PlayStation 4 edition. The port also boasts new tutorials aimed at first-timers, along with a split-screen co-op mode that supports up to four players. The Xbox One version of Terraria is available digitally for $19.99. Popular 2D sandbox platformer Terraria will arrive on Xbox One and PS4 later this year, publisher 505 Games announced on the game's forums. Developed by Re-Logic, the PS4 version will feature Cross-Play and Cross-Save functionality with its Vita counterpart, which launched in December. Next-gen players will have access to Terraria's version 1.2 content, including its various improved gameplay mechanics and graphical upgrades that arrived on Xbox 360, PS3 and Vita in April. The publisher says the Xbox One and PS4 versions will also feature "some brand new functionality," though it's unclear just what that means. Terraria is currently free on Vita for PlayStation Plus members this month, which will bolster its already strong download numbers; it reached 1.3 million downloads on mobile devices and one million across PS3, Xbox 360 and Vita as of March. As expected, the console versions of Re-Logic's 2D sandbox platformer Terraria have been updated to version 1.2 today. The update brings a large list of bug fixes as well as improved gameplay mechanics and graphical changes to the PS3, Xbox 360 and Vita versions, such as a brighter sun and darker midnight portions of the game. Version 1.2's change log is a "direct copy from the PC change log with console exclusive changes added to them," putting the console versions more on par with the PC game. The game has found massive success for Re-Logic on all platforms, topping 1.3 million downloads on iOS and Android and one million downloads across Xbox 360, PS3 and PS Vita as of late March. It first launched on PC in May 2011 and just hit Vita in December. The game's creator, Andrew Spinks, discussed plans for a sequel to Terraria in October, noting that it wasn't in development at the time. [Image: 505 Games]

On April 17, Terraria will receive a "massive and free" update on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Vita. Update 1.2 makes numerous tweaks to the console version and adds plenty of fresh content, including four new bosses, additional NPCs, new pets, and "over 1,000 new items." The console version change log, which the game's official forum notes is "a direct copy from the PC change log with console exclusive changes added to them," notes a few other additions, including new ores, wood types, brick types and the ability to now imbue melee weapons. Update 1.2 makes a few improvements to Terraria's graphical fidelity as well, making the sun brighter and making midnight in the open world darker. "Hell houses have been remodeled," the change log adds, which is itself a feat considering just how lazy the contractors in hell are. The complete list of changes detailed on the official Terraria forum, can be found after the break. [Image: Re-Logic / 505 Games]

Terraria, Re-Logic's 2D sandbox adventure game, surpassed a combined 1.3 million full-game downloads on iOS and Android. The game first arrived on iOS in August 2013 and on Android in September. Additionally, publisher 505 Games announced that Terraria recently achieved one million downloads in total across Xbox 360, PS3 and PS Vita, the latter of which arrived in December. Andrew Spinks, the creator of Terraria, first divulged plans for the game's sequel in October, but was careful to note that it wasn't in development at the time. Spinks later said he'd like to code Terraria 2 in a more portable language so he can bring the game to multiple platforms closer to its PC launch, though Nintendo's 3DS is likely not in the cards for the sequel. • Terraria 2 planned for mobile close to PC launch, not for 3DS

Terraria creator Andrew Spinks has plans to bring the RPG's sequel to multiple plaforms close to the release of the PC game. Spinks told Pocket Gamer he wants "to code Terraria 2 in a more portable language so it can be released on multiple platforms at launch or close to launch." One platform the game won't appear on is Nintendo's 3DS, though. "3DS is something I was very interested in getting Terraria on but the system unfortunately cannot run Terraria the way it needs to be ran," he added. Spinks discussed his plans for Terraria 2 earlier this month, saying that while the game is not yet in development, he would like for it to feature "infinite worlds" for players to travel between. The original game is expected to be updated further, with its version 1.2 patch arriving at the beginning of October, though the developer said he has considered bringing a small team in to offer support for Terraria while he moves on to Terraria 2.

Terraria creator Andrew Spinks recently discussed his plans for Terraria 2, the direct sequel to the popular RPG from developer Re-Logic. "Terraria 2 is definitely something that will be happening but contrary to several of the articles that went live today I have not started development," Spinks told Joystiq. "I have a list of features and mechanics I want the game to have but that is the extent of the development at this point." As far as those features are concerned, Spinks told Rock Paper Shotgun that while Terraria 2 is "a ways out," it will "have a lot in common with the original. It's gonna be quite different as well. I really want to expand on the whole Terraria universe." Spinks said that he is "locked" in to some of Terraria's established mechanics, such as "the way loot works" and "the way character progression works." With Terraria 2, Spinks said he wants "to have infinite worlds so you're not just stuck to one world. You can travel anywhere. I want more biome diversity in that, too." As for Terraria, he added that the recently-launched version 1.2 will probably be "the last seven-month update" for the original game, but that he plans to finish the "endgame progression" for the update "within the next month or two," as the update didn't include a final boss. He noted that while there may be other updates three or four months down the road, he has "looked into maybe hiring another small team to continue updates while I move onto Terraria 2."

Terraria, the PC creation conceived by the small staff at developer Re-Logic, will finally make its way to the digital storefronts of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Developed by Engine Software and published 505 Games, the console version of Terraria features fresh content, including a new big bad dubbed Ocram as well as additional enemies, weapons, pets and inventory items, and is scheduled to arrive at "the end of February or early March," according to 505 Games community manager Logan Rosenstein. The console version's biggest addition, however, is the ability to play Terraria with a controller. It's initially hard to picture playing Terraria without the combination of a mouse and keyboard. The basic movement controls are simple enough, but inventory management, mining, and construction are all governed by a pointer-based interface that is best left for a mouse to handle. The gamepad controls developed for the port aim to offer the best of both worlds."The biggest challenge [the dev team faced] was the controls," Rosenstein said of the porting process. "The PC version is so heavily reliant on the keyboard and mouse, so the dev team spent a lot of time and a lot of effort working on the controls. They did several different layouts and several different practice runs."%Gallery-178191%
