Tesla targets Nürburgring EV record next month
Tesla has left Nurburgring for now, but tweeted that it will return next month with its modified Model S "Plaid" model. It suggested that the track tests it did over the last week or so indicate that it could have pulled off a lap time of around 7 minutes and 20 seconds, though it never did any official timing. When it returns, however, it promised to do a lot better, saying that "with some improvements, 7:05 may be possible when the Model S returns next month."
Intrigue at the Nurburgring as Tesla unofficially beats Porsche's fastest lap
When Porsche beat the Nurburgring lap record for a four-door EV, it was sending a message to rival Tesla: "Hey, 2-second 0-60mph acceleration times are cool, but how long can your brakes, motor, tires and batteries last?" Tesla boss Elon Musk got the message loud and clear, and as it goes with him, he wasn't willing to let it go. Now, it appears that a Tesla Model S has bested the Taycan Turbo's 7 minute, 42 second time by 19 seconds (unofficially).
Elon Musk says the Tesla Model S just set a new track speed record
The Model S has set a new record for the fastest four-door car at California's Laguna Seca racetrack, according to Elon Musk. Blackpink's 'Kill This Love' is breaking YouTube records
In its first 24 hours, the music video for "Kill This Love" -- the latest single by K-pop quartet Blackpink -- reached 56.7 million YouTube views. It then went on to earn 100 million views in less than three days. That's the fastest any music video has reached either milestone, and it makes "Kill This Love" the biggest music video debut in YouTube history -- unseating Ariana Grande's "Thank You, Next," which had 55.4 million views in its first 24 hours.
'Red Dead Redemption 2' is the fastest-selling game that isn't 'GTA V'
Rockstar is fond of bragging that its games break records, and it's not about to be humble following the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2. The developer claims that its open-world Western set the record for the largest opening weekend in the "history of entertainment." It's not saying how many copies it sold, but the debut amounted to $725 million in worldwide retail sell-through (sales to actual customers, not stores) over three days. That's no mean feat for a sequel in a franchise that has typically played second fiddle to Grand Theft Auto.
Intel made more money than ever despite 10-nanometer chip delays
Intel has no permanent CEO and its 10-nanometer chips keep getting delayed, but none of that has cut into its revenue (yet). The company announced that it earned a record $19.2 billion and made a $7.3 billion operating profit. On top of that, it made most of its cash ($10.2 billion) on regular old PCs and not data centers or internet-of-things devices. All this despite the fact that it's still about a year away from mass production of its long-awaited 10-nanometer "Cannon Lake" CPU micro-architecture.
