Eking's S700 E-notepad launches 'the era of color digital reading' with a stylus... and a dream (update)
The kids at Eking don't always take due credit for their handiwork (they're usually busy manufacturing devices that get badged by companies like Viliv) but this time around they seem pretty proud of their S700 E-notepad. "A notepad," the company states in its PR, "means 'a memorandum' in English. With the prefix E, e-notepad means electron memorandum, abbreviated as electron book. It's concise and easy to understand and can be accepted by consumers." You get all that? It sports a color 7-inch display with both resistive touch input and an electromagnetic stylus (just like your old Wacom tablet), integrated 3G, fingerprint scanner, three megapixel camera, and a plastic case that looks similar to the one that came with our old Day Runner knock-off. And it's apparently a color display, because "multi-purpose colored electronic notepads will certainly replace the black and white E-books of simple features. It's a trend the same as that of the color TV sets replacing the black and white ones." Took the words right out of our mouth, Shenzhen PR guy! Not entirely sure on a price or release date for this one, but you'll know as soon as we do. Promise. Update: Our old friend (and enthusiastic contributor) snoop_snoop dug one up on youbaonet.com for 4,000 Yuan (something like $600). Who's going to be the first one to throw down their credit card?
Mio launches four new Moov navigators at CES
There's no Turbo Boost or anything involved with this bunch, but Mio has launched four mildly interesting navigators for 2009. The new Moovs all sport an improved "Spirit" software platform, and while the S300 features a 3.5-inch panel, text-to-speech and 12 million POIs, the S500 steps up to a 4.7-inch panel. The Moov S556 keeps the same 4.7-inch display but adds in Bluetooth and Junction View, while the S700 breaks out a 7-inch panel. The whole lot is supposed to ship before the second half of this year for $199.99, $249.99, $299.99 and $299.99 in order of mention.[Via GPSTracklog]
Nikon's Coolpix frenzy continues with L14, L15, S700, and S510
Hope you're not tired of Coolpixes yet, cause Nikon's got another bundle of compact cameras for us, including two new models in its L series and two in its S series. As the model numbers suggest, there's not a whole lot of difference between the L14 and L15 (on the top above), with the former packing a 7.1 megapixel CMOS and a 3x zoom lens that covers a practical range from 38-114mm, while the latter ups things to 8.0 megapixels and a 3x zoom covering 35-105mm. The L15 also boasts a slightly larger 2.8-inch LCD, as opposed to a 2.4-inch one on the L14. Moving into higher-end territory, the Coolpix S700 packs an impressive 12.1 megapixels, a 3x optical zoom and a 2.7-inch LCD in a slim aluminum body, while the also-aluminum S510 boasts 8.0 megapixels, a 3x optical zoom, and a pink color option in addition to the standard black and silver. Samsung's new S700 and S1000 cameras
After their last round of completely out of left field NV-series cameras, we were kind of hoping Samsung wouldn't again resort to their well-specced but below average line of Digimax cameras, but here we have it. Samsung's new seven megapixel S700 and ten megapixel S1000 get the job done with 2.4-inch LCDs, 3x optical zoom, 16MB internal memory, and in the case of the S1000 MPEG-4 VGA video recording. (Wait, didn't they already announce the S1000?) Expect them in august for $250 and $350, respectively. Just in case, need that link to the NVs again?
