Sprint's had text-to-speech services on devices like the Samsung Epic 4G for quite some time, and now, looking to build up on that, the company's introducing its My Wireless STS feature. The new speech-to-speech service aims to help people with speech disabilities by giving them access to an operator-assisted line every day of the week and all year round. Folks wanting to use the My Wireless STS will have to dial *787 from their device, after which a Now Network rep will start a call and repeat every spoken word -- or ones that are unclear -- depending on users choice. Relay Director, Michael Ellis, says Sprint is "the first in the industry to bring this service to market," and that the project was developed closely with the help of speech disabled communities. If you're interested in learning more, there's a mighty presser waiting on you just past the break.

Earlier this week Spacetime Studios announced NCsoft has cancelled their contract with Blackstar, title revealed today, a space MMOG that has been in development for the past two years. As a result, this currently leaves the game with no publisher, stifling full production for the foreseeable future. In order for development to continue 12 employees were served with walking papers, an unfortunate but understandable circumstance. In the announcement Spacetime Studios reassures that Blackstar is their current project and they will continue to develop the IP. The infrastructure and all the tools are in place, and the remaining crew is fully committed. According to Brandon Reinhart's blog, STS Lead Designer, NCsoft is continuing to work closely with Spacetime Studios to resolve their separation amicably and make sure that the legalities regarding property rights are not entangled. More information regarding the game itself will be revealed in the days ahead. Do you want to know more about Blackstar? Check out thee Spacetime Studios website.

It's not often that we'll take time out to cover a single chip, but when said chip can handle "streaming of up to eight different concurrent single streams or four bi-directional streams of HD audio," we figure it's worthy of a mention. The STS DARR81 allows HD audio to be both transmitted and received with a single device simultaneously, and it also supports "5.1 and 7.1 surround sound, headphone and multi-room applications at the same time." Currently, we're not exactly sure what types of electronics will be housing these in 2008, but a slew of gear based on STS' technology will reportedly be showcased (and peeked by us) at CES next month.[Via Embedded]
