Shortly after hearing that Comcast SportsNet would be broadcasting an awful lot of Washington Capitals in HD this upcoming season, along comes this. Philadelphia residents should be in high-def heaven for the foreseeable future, being that Comcast SportsNet has just vowed to deliver "all Flyers, Sixers and Phillies games -- home and away, regular season and playoff -- in high-definition for the first time." Fans will also be treated to high-def versions of pre- and post-game shows, and if you're interested in some exact figures, you'll see 64 Flyers and 69 Sixers games, all in high definition, beginning with the Saturday, October 11 Flyers vs. New York Rangers tilt and the Wednesday, October 29 Sixers vs. Toronto Raptors matchup.[Via HDSportsGuide, thanks Todd][Image courtesy of TheLineupCard]

It's just about that time, hockey fans, and for those of you who proudly rock an oversized Caps jersey each and every Friday to work, we've some excellent news to share. 73 Washington Capitals games will be televised by Comcast SportsNet during the 2008 - 2009 season, and a full 50 of those will be aired in high-definition. The team's season starts on October 10th at Atlanta, and the following night will see the home opener shown in high-def when Chicago comes to the District. Sure, the NHL may not have the same following as say, the NFL, but this is definitely a trend we could stand to see catch on.[Image courtesy of OnFrozenBlog]

In what has clearly become a breakthrough year for baseball in HD, North Jersey based Mets and Jets fans can rejoice as Comcast is adding SportsNet New York HD just as we expected. Coming to channel 198 for Union, Plainfield, Meadowlands, Jersey City and Northwest-based customers today, and in other markets Thursday, viewers will get every 2008 Mets game in high definition. Time Warner Cable, Cablevision, RCN, DISH Network and DirecTV customers who already had the channel are now encouraged to find other things to fuel their air of superiority, we recommend noting your remarkably luxurious hair, your kid's middle school honor student status, or an above average number of Facebook friends.

No sooner than we get wind of the Huskers' plans to air a handful of its upcoming games in HD, along comes word that Blue Jays fans in Canada will be treated to a whole slew of its matchups courtesy of Rogers Sportsnet. Reportedly, the station will broadcast the season opener followed by around 99 more games on "all four Sportsnet channels and Sportsnet HD." Better still, the rest of the club's games will be carried (in HD, no less) by CBC and TSN, meaning that all 144 televised Blue Jays games will indeed be in high-definition. Although FiOS TV just landed in Oregon last month, early adopters in the area will be thrilled to know that Comcast SportsNet Northwest will now be included in the lineup. More specifically, users in the "greater Portland area" will have access to the aforementioned station on channel 66 within the Premier programming package. Regrettably, those Trail Blazers, Ducks, Beavers and Huskies won't be comin' atcha in high-definition until "later this year," but hey, at least you've got something to look forward to, right?[Image courtesy of AP / Bill Kostroun]
