Steam's user-generated content network/hub Steam Community has received a new feature that allows members to create and publish their own guides for Steam games. After joining the Steam Community Beta, users can utilize the Guide system's creation functionality to craft stuff like Alden's Overly Simple Portal 2 Puzzle Creator Guide.Steam's guide creation tools allow users to inject photos and videos from their Steam Cloud into their guides, as well as embed YouTube videos. Additionally, other Steam users can be given read/write access in order to aid in a Guide's construction. They could also aid in the Guide's destruction, we suppose, but that's on you for inviting trolls into the fold. We recommend a battery of background checks and drug tests before allowing any acquaintances, online or off, access to your VVVVVV Space Station 1 Speed Run No Deaths How To Guide™.

Steam's massive Community update has finished its beta phase and entered the wide open world of public availability, Valve announced today. The only two things required to log into the system are a Steam account and the desire to interact with other living human beings, one of which is more easily acquired than the other. The meat of the Steam Community is its Game Hubs, which serve as Reddit-ish collections of both official and user-generated videos, screenshots, workshop items, and news for specific games, with all content being up or down-voted by users. Steam Community also lets users create non-game-specific "Groups" and enhances profile functionality by grouping all the content you've created into one place.Steam Workshop and Steam Greenlight have also been wrapped up into Steam Community, and the Friends tab has been expanded to show you what your Steam pals are doing in the Community. You can also give people nicknames now, so get out there and start renaming all your contacts "Butts MacKenzie."

Valve has previewed the second part of its master plan to upgrade Steam communities, today previewing a handful of changes coming to user groups.Under the update, user groups will feature a group-specific discussion area and a new layout with better member visibility, making it "easier to see what a group is really about."Groups can also affiliate themselves with their favorite games and set language settings, which Valve says will make finding groups of interest an easier endeavor. And no, you can't make a group professing your love for Half-Life 3 just yet. Valve isn't talking about it!

Join the Midnight Club 2 Club! That's the organization we just invented whose sole membership requirement is ownership of Midnight Club 2. It's exceptionally easy to join right now, as Rockstar is handing out free copies to anyone who joins the Rockstar Community on Steam. Hey, that's two clubs you'd be part of, one of which is even real!Your account must have at least one purchase or gift in it – basically, proof that you're a real person who really plays games. And you can't already have Midnight Club 2. Double-dipping is not allowed in the MC2C. You should probably make sure you have a Windows PC capable of running the game, too.[Thanks, Jesse C.]

  • Worms Reloaded beta going worldwide on Monday

News from the Steam Community tells us that Worms Reloaded, that new "extended" version of the old game in which sentient invertebrates do battle with rockets and/or sheep, is moving up to a worldwide beta. Previously, the game was only available for testing in Europe, but it's opening it up globally on Monday, so children of all nations will be able to throw airstrikes and ninja ropes at each other then. The only catch? You need a key, and they've only got a few. So you'll just have to hope you come up when they spin the random numbers around. We do know that you have to be a member of the official group, so sign in over there right now ... and then begins the waiting game. [via LA Examiner]
