Indie developer Psyonix, who once upon a time made Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars for the PSN, are about to launch their new game Arc Squadron. The Unreal-powered space shooter for iOS and Android has a bunch going on under the starcraft hood. The game features 64 levels, twenty different environments, lots of ships and the standard Gamecenter support with leaderboards and achievements. The game was announced at a previous PAX, but it's currently in the "we're-almost-ready-as-soon-as-Apple-approves-us" stage. So, likely, a few weeks.

Indie developer Psyonix, Inc. recently sent out a press release announcing a half-off sale for its wordy PSN title, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars. Until June 15, folks living in NTSC territories can purchase the game from the PlayStation Store for just $5 -- a promotion that's being offered in anticipation of the upcoming 2010 World Cup. We wonder if the World Cup will return the favor, and introduce a sudden death, vehicle-based round of soccer into its proceedings. If so, we might actually watch it.

Developer Psyonix was presented with one of two options for the one year anniversary of its PSN-exclusive Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle Cars: a) make a shorter title, or b) cut the price in half.Well, it chose the latter. Starting today (going on until October 29th), the soccer-inspired "racing" game will be half-off. For the low price of $4.99, you'll get access to the entire game, including the free expansion DLC released earlier this year. The price drop is sure to prompt a nice influx of gamers to the network modes.

Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars finally got released in Europe today after weeks of delays. There's also a decent bunch of downloadable content, including a bumper selection of LittleBigPlanet goodies. We expect the Europeans among you were quite looking forward to the release of Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars this week. Unfortunately you've got another week to wait as the game has been suddenly delayed by SCEE until the 29th. A member of the development team has let us know, via the PSNation podcast blokes, that the release date "was changed at the last minute" and that it is "very frustrating since they confirmed the 22nd twice before we announced on our forums." First the LittleBigPlanet DLC gets delayed, now Battle Cars. At this rate this week's European PSN update will consist of little more than a trailer or two. If we're lucky.

Live in Europe and been meaning to pick this PSN title up? Then it must've been a long wait for Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars; much longer than it takes to say that name, or to type it out. Try translating that into at least 15 other languages. Regardless of name length, the title is coming out in Europe this upcoming January 22. Psyonix Studios posted a discreet update on their website stating that the game would drop in during next week's PS Store update. So there you have it. It's time for Voitures Acrobatiques de Bataille![Thanks Alex!]

Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars is getting a little bit smaller tomorrow. And by that, we don't mean the name -- we mean the price. The PlayStation Network-exclusive title will drop to $9.99.If the price drop isn't enticing enough, Psyonix is also adding a brand new arena to the game for absolutely free -- no need to buy DLC. Here's the full list of new features: New "Cosmic" arena Improved performance in network games A server browser has been added during matchmaking Players can now view leaderboards during matchmaking News updates appear on the online page Meters added to evaluate players' connection speed Headsets can be plugged-in or swapped during gameplay We always love seeing developers offering free updates to their games. Perhaps you'll want to check out SARPBC later tonight on the PlayStation Store.[Thanks, Joel!]

  • Battle Cars details, price and date revealed

This week the PlayStation Nation crew interviewed Psyonix Studios' Dave Hagewood. He's the Director of Development for the superbly named Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars. Torgo and Mark managed to squeeze some more tasty details out of Hagewood regarding when we'll be able to get our hands on the title and at what price. Battle Cars will be available for Americans next week, October 9th, for $14.99. Europeans can expect to play it at a later date, though nothing more specific than that was said. Battle Cars will feature trophy support, YouTube uploading, custom soundtracks, online leaderboards and online voice chat. There will also be a video editor within the game, giving you lots of advanced options to edit the footage in-game, including adding slow motion to replays. Offline, the game will support 4 players, while online will support 8. Multiple players on a single PS3 can play together in online matches, so two PS3s with 4 players on each is entirely possible. The game will launch with three maps, though more will follow. There's also the possibility that some DLC may be free, though that's unconfirmed as of yet (confirmed!). That's a lot of content for downloadable title, but with WipEout HD we've come to expect such things. Check out the gallery below for more Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars screenshots and make sure you check out the next PlayStation Nation podcast on PS3 Fanboy later today for the full interview.[UPDATE] Hagewood has confirmed that there will be free maps to download in the future. %Gallery-29286%

Download to PSP The Psyonix guys are incredibly proud of their game's title. Just look at the new trailer for their PS3-exclusive Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars. It has tones of that crazy Duke Nukem trailer from E3 -- but with more gameplay. Strangely, the visuals look rather solid in this PSN game. Maybe it's because of the team's heritage with working on the Unreal Engine.

click to enlarge Say it with us now: Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars. Kind of makes your mouth hurt, doesn't it? We're not sure exactly what Psyonix was thinking when it chose that name for its first PSN title, but our early in-person glimpse of the game makes us want to forgive and move on.Running on Unreal Engine 3 (in fact, Psyonix was responsible for the popular Onslaught game type in the Unreal Tournament series) the game is, by both the developer's account and our own, a mix of car combat and soccer. Strange, we know, but it all makes sense – and looks quite fun – when the action commences.%Gallery-31475%

Click for high-resolution image. Wow, that's a long title. Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars by Psyonix Studios will strike PSN in early fall 2008. SAR-PB-C is "an arena-based online vehicle sports game" that's inspired by the game of soccer (football for the rest of the world). The game will feature extensive stats tracking, ranking and rewards. However, more exciting is the announcement of popular features, like Trophy support and the ability to record gameplay directly to YouTube. It's great to see third party developers starting to take advantage of the various capabilities of the PS3.Humorously, Dave Hagewood, Director of Development at Psyonix Studios talked in a press release: "Thankfully, we don't have to worry about fitting this title on a package."%Gallery-29286%
