Between your comments and the input of Team Joystiq, we've narrowed the Joystiq T-shirt Contest down to just six finalists. Exciting, we know! But before we pick the winner, we're looking for one last round of input from you guys and gals. We don't necessarily need to know your favorite, we're more looking for your thoughts on each of the designs. Which would you simply wear and which would you buy multiples of in case of mud fight or run-by fruiting? We'll be picking the winner -- who'll receive a console of their choice and five games -- soon, so let us know! %Gallery-134122%

  • The Engadget / eBoy t-shirt shop is officially open, pre-orders start today!

Woo, boy. We've been bursting at the seams to share this one, and it's finally time -- Engadget is teaming up with the one and only eBoy (read our introduction here) in order to open up our very own t-shirt shop! We've worked with eBoy over the years, and we've never been let down by their mind-blowing work. Every so often, we've offered up a stash of shirts for our dear readers to snap up, and every time, they were gone before sundown. That's just not right. To remedy said quandary, we've worked up a beautiful arrangement that'll have one of our favorite artists whipping out t-shirt designs for us, and they'll be handling the orders and logistics as they've been doing for years. Pre-orders are live worldwide right now, and initial shipments should start flowing around mid-October. Our first five designs are showcased in the gallery below, and if you're interested, surf on down to the source link below to grab one (or two!). They're priced at $24 (US / Canada), or €20 elsewhere, and if you're curious about sizing, have a look at American Apparel's size chart right here. We hope you love 'em as much as we do, and we'll be giving 50 percent of the proceeds received to Child's Play Charity, which provides games, books and cash for sick kids in children's hospitals across North America and the world. %Gallery-134010%

  • What's your favorite Joystiq T-shirt design?

    09.07.2011

We've painstakingly compiled a gallery of all 118 entrants in our Joystiq T-shirt design contest. Now, this is where you come in: We need your feedback on the entries! You'll see the number of each design in the gallery (make sure you click through the whole thing). Just comment below with that number and a brief bit about why it's your favorite. Why does it make your heart thrum with passion? Why does it fill your blood with desire? This isn't really a vote, but how you guys and girls feel about the designs is going to be a huge factor in which winner we select. And since the victor will not only enter the annals of Joystiq history, but also win a game console with five games, there's a lot on the line. Note: We didn't want to bias you by making them too prominent, but if you check the file name on any image, you'll be able to find out the artist's name. Thanks so much to everyone that entered. We don't think we're overstating our point by saying we were honestly moved by some of the love put into these images. %Gallery-132198%

We're sure you're already feverishly working on your T-shirt designs for Joystiq; we just wanted to remind you that you've only got until Sunday to submit yours. One winner is going to get their T-shirt made by Joystiq and get a console of their choice with five randomly selected games, so get to designing. Complete rules and submission guidelines are after the break. Just a note: Don't feel like you have to prominently feature our logo. As our boy Petey M. demonstrates, our last winner had a really cool image with the Joystiq name just sort of lovingly placed at the side. Good luck! (Update: Technically, the winner of our T-shirt contest in 2006 was Mr. Philip Palermo. Here's his great shirt.)

  • Pay what you want for a Monaco shirt

Get a jump on Monaco fandom by buying merch in advance of the game's release -- even in advance of any announcement of a release! Pocketwatch Games is taking orders on Monaco t-shirts, in order to help support the ongoing development of the heist game. It's a gesture of courtesy, considering the team has all the inspiration it needs for moneymaking initiatives right in the game. Pocketwatch is selling the t-shirts under a "pay what you want" model, sort of like the Humble Indie Bundle, but for a more tangible, wearable bundle. You have to pay at least $8 for the shirt and $6 shipping to cover costs, but you're free to throw in as much extra as you like. If you pay $19 or more, you'll get a button; $94 or more gets you a set of four. And the developers get to continue eating food while making Monaco.

  • Orange Sound Charge T-shirt will juice up your phone while you listen to the bass go boom

Orange UK has a long-running tradition of coming up with quirky ways to recharge your phone while enjoying the Glastonbury Festival every year, and 2011 is proving no different. This time around, it's a T-shirt that generates an electric charge from the sound around it -- rendering it ideal for front-row crowd-surfing types -- though the provided tech details go no further than to tell us that piezoelectrics and the absorption of vibration are involved. We find ourselves overcome by the suspicion that you'll never be able to get much meaningful utility out of this rather unstylish garment, but then it does give you a plausible excuse for pushing your way nearer to the stage, and if anyone objects, you can consider it a great conversation starter. So whatever happens, you win, fashion loses.

"I like Street Fighter," you say, "and I also like corporate logo parodies. Is there a product for me?" Oh, and also "My torso is cold." Capcom has stepped in to take care of your needs, with this new Street Fighter shirt on its online store. In addition to this puntastic design (in white, grey, or red), you can also get a "Blanka Electric Co." shirt, a "Psycho Power World Tour 1991" shirt, or a Zangief propaganda poster shirt. Each shirt runs $19.95 and serves as a good indicator to passersby that you might be StreetPass battling them in Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition right now.

If unsolved Google puzzles keep you up at night, you now have one less reason to go sleepless: the Google I/O T-shirt enigma has been unraveled. The picture above contains a series of dots and dashes, which our friends at MobileCrunch recognized as Morse code. Using the line breaks as spaces (new characters), the code then reads: .... - - .--. --. --- --- .-.-.- --. .-.. .- ....- -.-. -.... ...-- ----. That translates to a URL, which we've linked to below. We won't spoil where it leads, in case you're feeling noble enough to try decoding it for yourself.

Masthead Studios has given us three digital copies of Earthrise to pass on to some lucky readers. Already an Earthrise player? No problem -- we've got you covered too! We've also got 10 spiffy Earthrise t-shirts to share. All you need to do to enter is leave a comment here before noon EDT on Saturday, May 7th. • Portal 2 stuff ready for transport to you (not by portal, unfortunately)

    04.19.2011

You pre-ordered a copy of Portal 2 from Amazon, then bought another one from Steam, and you paid $40 for the Potato Sack just to ensure you'd get the game ASAP. Maybe you also stood in line for a copy last night. Now that you have the game, it's becoming more difficult to find ways to give Valve your money. Don't worry, though, you aren't being forced into financial responsibility just yet. Valve has added a dangerous amount of new Portal 2 merchandise to its online store, including: ten new t-shirts, a track jacket, a tank top, a hoodie, thirteen prints, and a pint glass for good measure (of one pint). You're going to be so deep into debt with Valve that you'll have to seek extra work as a test subject.

Sure, the augmented reality cards included with the 3DS are super neat, but how about making a giant one and posing it next to an oversize Tetsujin 28-go statue? Ohhh ... right. Or maybe drawing one on a whiteboard? But you've already done that too? Okay, okay, we've got it -- you could wear one like a shirt! Wait, what?! Dammit! Well, anyway, assuming you weren't one of the first 3,000 European 3DS registrants to receive Nintendo's bonus AR t-shirt, Level Up Studios has you covered! The company's $18 black t-shirt comes adorned with the same question mark block seen on the official Nintendo equivalent, only a bit larger (and nicer looking, we'd say). Head past the break for a video of the shirt in terrifying live action.

  • Under Armour's E39 performance shirt is electric (video)

If athletic events were accessorized with coffee, comfy pajamas, and a particular knack for sedentariness, well, we'd be champs. Alas, sports are more typically characterized by movement which, we're told, increases the participant's pulse, breathing, and likelihood of turning an arm into a tattooed sleeve. Nevertheless, we can't help but be intrigued by the Under Armour E39 ("E" for electric) compression shirt. The performance tee features a removable "bug" sensor equipped with a triaxial accelerometer, processor, and 2GB of storage flanked by additional monitors that measure the wearer's heart rate and breathing. A system provided by Zephyr can then analyze the athlete's individual movements and biometric data to help identify performance issues like when the body is moving out of sync thereby slowing down an athlete's linear speed. Scouts, coaches, and trainers can collect the data over Bluetooth from smartphones, tablets, or PCs to measure and potentially improve performance. An athlete measuring a low G-force for their particular sport could, for example, be put on a strength training regimen to help improve explosiveness. In the future, Under Armour sees the data being collected and analyzed in real-time allowing coaches to replace under performing players right on the field. The NFL has already equipped a handful of players with the E39 shirts during its annual Scouting Combine event -- the results of which you can see in the video after the break.

  • The bloody aftermath: RuneScape's Valentine's Day Massacre in numbers

Unless you had a really bad date that ended with fire and regret, "Valentine's Day" and "massacre" are typically not paired together. Of course this doesn't apply to RuneScape, which loves to break the rules and keep us guessing. RuneScape recently hosted a Valentine's Day Massacre as a tongue-in-cheek way to celebrate both the holiday and a PvP zone called the Wilderness returning to the game, and by all accounts, it was a huge success. Jagex reports that 625,347 players met their untimely end during the event, which spanned 48 blood-soaked hours. Before the massacre began, the company ran a contest to see who could predict the kill count, and one player carried away the top prize with a guess of 623,500. For anyone else who participated in the slaughter, Jagex is selling a limited edition t-shirt commemorating the event. Available in red, white, or black in the Jagex store, the tee says "I brought the Wilderness back" and can be purchased for $13.00.

The contests, they keep coming! This particular one from Blizzard and J!NX is particularly interesting for you budding designers and artists out there, as J!NX is giving you a chance to design the next wave of Cataclysm gear! Using their design kit, you can create designs in the template and upload them for a shot at getting your designs on Jinx clothing. J!NX has been heralding in some pretty interesting design choices over the course of the last year, and they're showing a remarkable amount of foresight into lots of different categories of clothing that gamers and geeks in general would want. When I visited them at BlizzCon 2010, they had an impressive showing of quality stuff ranging from the normal T-shirts to the offbeat murloc hoodie. If this contest is any indication, they are going to be looking for all types of designs, from the subtle to the crazy. Check out the official contest post, where you can find links to the design kit as well as the contest submission forms.

Twitter-related messages on t-shirts aren't unheard of, but tossing your actual handle on a tee? Now that's an idea we're down with. We can't exactly say we're boastful enough to toss our own name on a shirt, but it might not be a bad idea to throw your company Twitter account on there and force all of your employees to rock one on a trade show floor. In mid December, geeky t-shirt manufacturer J!NX announced an exciting art competition for fans of EVE Online. Following on from the popularity of CCP's earlier DeviantArt ship design contest, J!NX and CCP Games gave people the opportunity to design their very own EVE t-shirt. The deadline for submission has now passed and public voting is now open on the 85 submitted entries. The creators of the three best shirt designs will each receive $750 US dollars in cash, $250 dollars worth of J!NX store credit, a full year's subscription to EVE Online and a whole pile of items from the EVE store. Perhaps more exciting is the fact that the best designs will be also be turned into t-shirts for sale. The choice of which shirts make the cut will be based on both the public vote and input from CCP and J!NX. If you're looking to expand your wardrobe with some internet-spaceship-themed clothing, now's your chance to pick your favourite designs from the hoard of entries. Voting will be open for all J!NX account holders until January 10th, with the winners announced one week later on January 17th.

Back in September, EVE Online developer CCP Games teamed up with the folks at deviantArt to bring us a fantastic starship design competition. Dozens of artists from around the world worked tirelessly to create the ultimate starship designs, producing some incredible entries that wouldn't look out of place in New Eden. When the winners were announced, CCP revealed that there would be a second starship design contest to give players another chance to win prizes. There's just under a week left to submit your entries for the final round of the starship design contest. With a grand prize of $900 cash, a year's subscription to EVE and a whole host of items from the EVE store, it's definitely a contest worth entering. Four additional runner-up prizes of $600 and some items from the EVE store will also be given out. Entries will be voted on by players, and the top 20 will be passed to the EVE art team to select the winners. The deadline for submission is December 21st, with voting beginning the following day. As if that weren't enough, t-shirt producer J!NX is also running its own EVE art contest with similarly huge prizes to be won. To enter, all you have to do is design a new EVE t-shirt, the best of which will eventually be sold on J!NX. Three prizes are available, each with $750 cash, a further $250 in J!NX vouchers, 12 months of EVE game time and several items from the EVE store. Public voting opens on December 27th, so get your entry in before Christmas to have a good chance of getting it in on time.

Each shirt is available for $20 in sizes up to XL, with XXL and XXXL versions available for an additional dollar per X.
