One of the things we love to see from different games are some of the boss monsters you wind up encountering while playing. Today's One Shots is a lovely example from Lord of the Rings Online sent in to us by Mandorak of the Gilrain, EU server. He told us that he thinks this encounter is from the Book 7 update, and is where they resurrect the dragon Thorog. Also, if you look carefully, he said you can see a Nazgul in the back. (Click on the image above for a full-size screen.) We don't know about you, but up front and center is not the place we'd want to be if a dragon was breaking free! (Not that being anywhere near the long, whiplike tail would probably be too good, either.) Do you have screenshots of cool looking monsters you've run across in your travels? Perhaps you and your friends have felled a mythical beast? Whatever the reason, whatever the game, we'd love to see those screenshots. Just mail them to us here at oneshots AT massively.com!%Gallery-9798%

  • LotRO, A Look Back: Book 9

Less than two months after launch, the first content patch added Book 9: The Shores of Evendim on June 14, 2007. Not only did it include a continuation of the epic storyline, but it also released a new zone -- the aforementioned Evendim. This is the land of the Dúnedain that Elendil and his people settled in after arriving in Middle-earth from the destroyed island of Númenor. Though Elendil died away from home, and his body was never returned, a great tomb was erected for him. The tomb remains empty of bodies but contains many treasures -- treasure that certain brigands might be interested in obtaining for themselves.Along with the new zone came the game's first large-scale raid instance: Helegrod. This was an ancient city built by Dwarves that was assaulted by the evil dragon Thorog. Wielding the powerful sword Mírdanant, Durin the fifth slayed Thorog but was killed in the process. Ever since attempts have been made to retake the city, but some evil prevents the Dwarves from reclaiming it. It is up to your hero, with 23 of his/her best friends, to defeat the evil inside once and for all.Gameplay-wise, huge improvements to the profession of Farming and the music system were made, and the Champion class received its class review (the first one, that is). Many more quests were introduced to smooth out the leveling at higher levels and the first collectible armor sets were seen. Find out what Books 10 & 11 brought to Middle-earth ===>>

  • Massively hands-on LotRO Book 12 tour

Recently I was taken on a tour of the Lord of the Rings Online upcoming content patch, Book 12 "The Ashen Wastes." And I came back with exclusive screenshots, lewt info and more video than you can shake a Balrog at.Joined by LotRO developer Aaron Campbell and Executive Producer Jeffrey Steefel, I was first taken to the new public PvP dungeon, The Delving of Frór. This is a new design concept for LotRO. One side in the Player vs Monster Player war must take and defend three of the five control points in the Ettenmoors to be able to enter the new dungeon. Once inside, there is a wealth of content for PvE play: solo mobs, more than fifteen group mobs and five raid mobs. But here's the hitch: if the other side gains control of the majority of the control points, their side can flood into the dungeon and attack you while you are hip deep in a raid encounter. At the same time, your side is shut out from helping if they aren't already in the dungeon. So not only do you have to coordinate your raid, you have to coordinate the defense of the zone at the same time. Gives a whole new twist to the raid strategy, eh?Read on for seven videos and a full tour write up.%Gallery-15282%
