For all those commenters in our recent <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/13/palm-pre-everything-you-ever-wanted-to-know/">Palm Pre feature</a> wondering just exactly what kind of battery we could expect to see in the device, wonder no more. According to Dieter Bohn over at the newly christened <em>PreCentral</em>, the phone will use the exact same battery as the Treo 800w and the Centro -- a 1150mAh model. Apparently Palm reps were happy to snap the back off the device and show the source of its juice off. That same size battery is used in the G1 as well, and Dieter notes that there's an aftermarket 1350mAh version which could offer more power. Certainly such a small battery -- a size which we know leaves a lot to be desired in a next-gen phone like the G1 -- isn't music to our ears, but since we don't know how the Pre handles power consumption, there's still plenty of questions to be answered. And hey, you <em>could</em> keep a spare around, right?<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: Jenn at Pocketables tells us that the battery is <a href="http://www.pocketables.net/2009/01/inside-the-palm.html">1200mAh as told to her by a Palm rep</a> at CES.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.palminfocenter.com/news/7145/palm-pre-battery-capacity-confirmed/">Palm Infocenter</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sprint/" rel="tag">Sprint</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/16/palm-pre-to-use-centro-sized-battery/">Palm Pre to use Centro-sized battery</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 16 Jan 2009 02:00:00 EST. The latest, which Palm calls "highly recommended for all Treo 800w devices," fixes problems with the detection of certain USB accessories and the inability to charge a completely dead battery (and don't worry, they've posted a trick for getting it charged enough to install the update). What's more, this particular patch can be applied over the air simply by visiting a URL, which is exactly what we like to hear.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.palminfocenter.com/news/7444/treo-800w-usb-and-battery-charging-update/">Palm Infocenter</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/software/" rel="tag">Software</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/04/treo-800w-gets-updated-usb-and-battery-main-beneficiaries/">Treo 800w gets updated, USB and battery main beneficiaries</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 04 Sep 2008 14:42:00 EST. Baby steps. When it comes to Palm's mainstream businessphone line, that seems to be the name of the game, and the new Treo <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/800w">800w</a> is certainly no exception to the rule. So is it new enough, advanced enough, and badass enough to do the duty while still being sufficiently incremental to satisfy even the most easily-agitated suit? Engadget Mobile reveals all in the full review, so click on!<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handhelds/" rel="tag">Handhelds</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/24/palm-treo-800w-gets-reviewed-on-engadget-mobile/">Palm Treo 800w gets reviewed on Engadget Mobile</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 24 Jul 2008 14:59:00 EST. We'd been hearing rumors about the Treo <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/800w/">800w</a> for what seemed like ages. Between the clatter of "Zeppelin" talk, glimpses of a new model during Gates' last CES keynote, and the ever-persistent idea that a fresh new Palm phone is just around the corner, it wasn't exactly a mind-blowing surprise when the new model finally came to light (of course, Sprint selling it a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/13/palms-treo-800w-now-available-online-from-sprint/">day early</a> didn't help either). Now we've had a chance to spend some quality time with the company's latest foray into the world of Windows Mobile, and we'd like to share our deepest thoughts and inner-most feelings on the device.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/24/palm-treo-800w-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Palm Treo 800w review</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sprint/" rel="tag">Sprint</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/24/palm-treo-800w-review/">Palm Treo 800w review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 24 Jul 2008 14:59:00 EST. If you've been really eager, it's possible <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/13/palms-treo-800w-now-available-online-from-sprint/">you already bought one</a> of these. We're not sure if you check most mobile provider's sites every ten minutes or so (like we do), but if you did, you would have noticed that the latest Palm Windows Mobile device -- the Treo 800w -- is available for purchase at Sprint's online store. The phone, which features a 320 x 320 screen, EV-DO Rev. A, WiFi, and GPS, is currently listing for $249.99 after a $250 instant savings, $100 mail-in rebate, and two-year contract. So if you've been absolutely, positively dying to get your hands on this thing -- now's your chance.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=3185">Phone Scoop</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sprint/" rel="tag">Sprint</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/13/palms-treo-800w-now-available-online-from-sprint/">Palm's Treo 800w now available online from Sprint</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 13 Jul 2008 13:45:00 EST. We're not sure where our tipster got these pictures (nor are we going to ask), but they appear to be screens from the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/25/treo-800-spy-shot-madness-starts-again-with-new-blurry-goodness/">Treo 800w's</a> specification and knowledge training documentation. New tidbits include a 333 Mhz processor, 4.4.1 x 2.28 x 0.73-inch dimensions, and a weight of 4.94 ounces. Windows Mobile 6.1 looks to be in full-force, the camera shoots at 2 MP, and the USB port is 2.0. As for other revealed features, you're looking at threaded SMS chat, but MMS is mysteriously missing in lieu of Sprint Picture Mail, a trend that continues to confuse us. If all this pans out, look for the 800w to be <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/05/palm-treo-800w-spotted-in-new-pics/">available on July 13th for $249.99</a>. Well folks, it's real... and it's in the wild. The hot word on the street is that Palm has all but confirmed the existence of two new phone models by ramping up a "launch developer" program for new applications. The devices, dubbed Zeppelin (a name <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/12/17/more-details-on-the-palm-treo-800w-uncovered/">we've heard</a> quite a bit of) and Skywriter (which is new to us) could be slated for a Q3 release, as Palm is asking devs to turn in their applications by May 30th. Rumor has it that at least one of the units is a "Centro-like" Windows Mobile phone -- if that date is close to correct, it could very well be the "Wanda" that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/05/palm-wanda-is-the-treo-500v-successor/">we saw</a> back in January. The Zeppelin, on the other hand, is likely the WiFi equipped <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Treo800w/">Treo 800w</a> we've been hearing about for what seems like a million years. A mockup of a device (above) was included in the email, though we're pretty sure not even Palm could create a phone that ugly.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/07/palm-gets-real-on-the-zeppelin-adds-mystery-device-named-skywri/">Palm gets real on the Zeppelin, adds mystery device named Skywriter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 07 May 2008 11:06:00 EST. For the handful of you left still getting stoked on Palm news, here's some interesting tidbits. The folks over at WMExperts have gotten some "possible" specifications of the Sprint-bound <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/800w/">Treo 800w</a> (or as we like to call it, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/06/new-palm-handsetteased-by-bill-gates-himself/">Gatesnote Palm</a>) and are sharing them with the world. According to the sources, the new Windows Mobile 6-based Palm phone will be <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Centro/">Centro</a>-thin, trade the old proprietary HotSync connector for a mini-USB jack, has a dedicated hardware switch for turning WiFi on and off, will sport EV-DO Rev. A, Bluetooth 2.0, as well as 802.11g, and utilizes microSD cards in addition to its 256MB of memory. The article also says that the 2-megapixel camera takes "decent" pictures, and there is an additional 128MB of memory for "something else." More shocking (and possibly stupid) is that Palm has removed the headphone jack altogether, and users must employ some type of miniUSB contraption or go Bluetooth. Ed, if this is one of those <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/12/19/palm-ceo-ed-colligan-says-were-working-on-it-promises-break/">breakthrough devices</a> you mentioned, color us unimpressed.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://blog.treonauts.com/2008/01/more-treo-800w.html">Treonauts</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sprint/" rel="tag">Sprint</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm-os/" rel="tag">Palm OS</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/24/more-palm-800w-specs-leak-out-no-change-in-ugliness/">More Palm Treo 800w specs leak out, no change in ugliness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 24 Jan 2008 10:35:00 EST.
