Humble Indie Bundle 9 sees Fez, Mark of the Ninja debut on OS X
The Humble Bundle is easily the best deal available on the internet when it comes to pay-what-you-want entertainment. It works on a sliding scale of price / morality. You pay whatever you want for a block of games / movies / comedy albums / e-books etc, from zero dollars on. Buyers who pay more than the average get bonus content. It's truly a wonderful idea. Currently, the deal being offered is the Humble Indie Bundle 9, a set of four incredible games for your standard customers with two extra games for people who pay more than US$4.59. That's right -- six full games for less than a dollar apiece. More importantly, this particular bundle marks the Mac debut of two of these titles. The basic package comes with Trine 2: Complete Story, Mark of the Ninja (for the first time on Mac), Eets Munchies Beta and the Jack Black-starring heavy metal role-playing game Brütal Legend. If you pay more than the standard amount you also get FTL: Faster Than Light and the legendary 2D platformer in a 3D world, Fez. You can watch the bundle's trailer below. TUAW's Mac Game of the Week: Trine 2 is a beautiful puzzle adventure game for $4 right now
Trine is a terrific puzzle/adventure game that's akin to Blizzard's old The Lost Vikings title, if you remember that one. It features three different characters (a thief, a knight and a wizard) all controlled by one player, each with different abilities that are used to navigate various physics-based puzzles and traps. It was a solid indie title, and did well enough to inspire a sequel in Trine 2. Trine 2 took the same concept even further, featuring updated graphics and the addition of a co-op mode, in which three different players could take over the three different roles and upgrade them as you play along together. Just like the first title, Trine 2 offers physics-based puzzles, and a really gorgeous mix of action and intellectual gameplay. This is a true indie gem -- you can tell there's a lot of love put into this one, and while it falls down in parts, the overall package shines with polish and ingenuity. You can get Trine 2 on Steam or from the company's main website, but it's currently on sale on the Mac App Store for just US$3.99, 75 percent off of the usual cost. Note that you will need to have a fairly new Mac (basically 2010 on) to play it, as the game can get graphically intensive at times. But if you do have a newer graphics card, this game is a no-brainer for just $4, and the ability to play online co-op with friends is icing on the cake. There's also an expansion pack called Goblin Menace that's out on Steam right now -- presumably that's headed to the Mac App Store version soon as well.
Trine 2 will be available for Mac on Dec. 7
Puzzle-based action/platformer Trine 2 is coming out this week, and developer Frozenbyte has announced that the Mac version will drop alongside the Windows version on Steam. If you want to get a copy outside of the Steam system, you'll have to wait until sometime next year, but even with the "DRM," Steam is usually a good choice to go with, even on a Mac. Frozenbyte is of course no stranger to Mac gaming, having just recently released a solid bundle for the Mac (as well as other platforms like Windows and Linux -- which is actually getting Trine 2 later on anyway). Trine 2 is looking like a really terrific game, expanding on the first title in the series by adding in new puzzles and puzzle types, making the lush graphics look even better, and including full online or local co-op gameplay. Trine 2 will be unlocked on December 7 -- it's $15 for the standard game, or $24.99 for a collector's edition that includes an art book and soundtrack. [via MacNN]
