On top of all the other obstacles they face, many game developers from nations like Iran, Iraq and Syria couldn't make it to GDC in San Francisco because of the Trump administration's immigration order. Unity is trying to make it up to them in a small way with a new program called Unity Without Borders. It's inviting 50 developers from the restricted countries (Iraq is now off that list) to its Unite 2017 conference in Amsterdam.

  • Intel wants you to stop hating meetings

The worst part about meetings isn't showing off your new presentation; it's how difficult it is to get your computer screen to show up on the TV. At Computex, Intel introduced its real-time collaboration solution Unite to remove some of the headaches associated with sharing presentations. The system uses a secure WiFi connection with a rotating PIN to connect to a Core vPro processor-powered mini PC connected to an office's display. Attendees download and install a lightweight client on their Mac or Windows machine and can share their desktop, annotate shared presentations and view up to four attendee's screens at once. It's a pretty straightforward solution. It makes meetings start quicker and gives attendees the ability to work together on a single presentation. But, it's the upcoming extensibility that could convince your IT department to drop your current solution for Unite.

Google and Europe. It's a bit of a bumpy relationship. Things like the right to be forgotten and good old anti-trust issues are challenges the company has little choice but to divert resources to. Things are only made more complex by the fact that Google runs two operations in the continent -- north and west, south and east. Not for much longer, though, as the two units are uniting and Matt Brittin (current head of the north/west part) is assuming control.

AT&T's snagged exclusive rights to Sierra Wireless' latest touchscreen LTE hotspot, the AT&T Unite. Packing a 2.4-inch display, the unit will keep you informed of your usage allowance, let you manage what devices are allowed access and tweak network settings without any additional fiddling. It's able to handle up to 10 simultaneous connections and, naturally, can be added to existing Mobile Share plans for $20 extra per month. We asked if it wanted to reveal details of pricing and availability, but AT&T suddenly went all shy and hid under the couch -- so we'll have to wait and see. • Facebook MMOgraphy: First impressions of The Agency: Covert Ops

Every two weeks, Facebook MMOgraphy brings you the latest news, guides and analysis about MMOs on Facebook and Facebook apps associated with MMOs. SOE's upcoming spy MMO The Agency has been long in the making. We've been covering it at Massively for quite some time now. Though it's not quite ready to launch yet, SOE has surprised us this week with a Facebook gaming app, The Agency: Covert Ops. Though Covert Ops is a Facebook app based on an MMO, it's not an MMO itself. There is no real time interaction with other players, for example. However it does provide light entertainment for those who enjoy the spy genre and has the same tone and feel of their upcoming MMO title. The Basics The core of the game is leveling your spy via missions. The missions follow a storyline and some of them are accomplished simply by having the correct resources needed, others require you to complete a minigame. Rewards include in-game cash, experience for your character and components to build better equipment. Every mission requires a certain amount of Cover to complete and when you run out of Cover, you need to allow it to replenish over time or buy more through a microtransaction store. Pop ups provide a tutorial to walk you through the gameplay flow and videos explain minigame play.

  • Opera Unite: a cloud-based promise to 'reinvent the web,' again

Opera has a little surprise in store for you this morning with its Opera Unite service. A web-based application built into the Opera browser that the Norwegian-based company says will "reinvent the Web" as it makes your computer, data, and media available via any web browser through the Unite cloud. A bold claim, sure, but just look at the breadth of the cloud-based services available to Mac, PC, or Linux/Unix users: File sharing -- securely share files direct from your computer Web server -- turns your home computer into a web server via Opera Unite URL Media player -- direct link to your music collection from any web browser Photo sharing -- shares your image library over the web without requiring a photo service Lounge -- self-contained chat service running on your computer Fridge -- a place where friends and family can post notes We're taking the service / software for a spin right now and at first blush, we're duly impressed by the ease of setup and control. • The Agency declassifies intel for revamped game site

One of the new titles on the way from Sony Online Entertainment is The Agency which promises to bring espionage into the world of MMOs. There were no announcements for The Agency at today's Sony press event at the E3 Expo, but we've noticed that there's new content to be found on the game's official site. A quick search of The Agency site reveals some new screenshots and wallpapers, concept art, info about both playable factions -- U.N.I.T.E. (spies) and Paragon (mercenaries) -- and a tongue-in-cheek 'evaluation quiz' for recruitment to each faction. In addition to the new art assets, they've also got their latest trailer up on the site as well. If you've been looking forward to some spies-and-mercenaries gameplay in an MMO, check out what's new on The Agency's revamped site.

  • RIM canning BlackBerry Unite! and BPS?

If we have any readers you use BlackBerry Unite! or BlackBerry Professional Software, we'll feel like we've won the lottery -- but yeah, to the two of you: get ready to make other arrangements. Word on the street is that RIM is getting ready to deep-six two of its light-use management packages in the next few months, likely a result of a killer combination of poor planning, poor execution, and poor uptake. Unite! is geared strictly toward families looking to exchange photos and calendars with one another (you know, the kinds of families where 9-year-old Julie has the Bold and daddy has the hand-me-down 8800) -- a good idea in theory, but few carriers have elected to roll it out. BPS, meanwhile, is designed for small offices where full-fledged BES might be overkill, but RIM's tendency to let the package stagnate after a BES release probably sealed its fate. BerryReview claims that Unite! will reach end-of-life status in July, while BPS will get cut out of the picture just as soon as BES 5.0 hits the streets. So long, guys; we hardly knew ye.[Via BlackBerryNews]

  • E308: A closer look at The Agency's factions

Espionage. Spies. High-tech weaponry. All of it sounds great to us, but what's the deal with the two factions in the upcoming Sony Online Entertainment title The Agency? We got a chance to talk to Matt Wilson at E3, who gave us all the news on how the two factions, ParaGON and UNITE are progressing through the alpha. We also asked about how these agencies will shake out in terms of cooperative (and not-so-cooperative) play. So tell us a bit about the two sides for those who are unfamiliar with The Agency. We have ParaGON and UNITE, red and blue -- well, orangish red -- and the idea behind it is kind of uptown versus downtown. It's Jack Daniels versus Grey Goose. It's the coolest gadgets versus duct-tape and bailing wire. It's the attitude you choose as a player when you come into the game. ParaGON is more the mercenary for hire. They will work for anyone who can afford to pay them. UNITE is all about staying within a code of conduct, and working with the global authority. Eventually, they will wind up working together. We're hoping that the cross-faction game will bring in an interesting dynamic into play. We want to create areas where both factions really have to work together to solve problems.%Gallery-12934%

  • The Agency: UNITE vs PARAGON

Not everyone is cut out to be a spy. There's the code name -- are you more of a Falcon or a Wolf? Are those too urbane? Maybe DA FIXER is more your style? And then there's the outfit. Tuxedos -- rent or buy? Evening gowns -- daring or coy? Cars -- black sports cars or camo-painted APCs? You just can't walk into the business unprepared.SOE is here to help. Their upcoming spy-themed MMO, The Agency, lets you indulge your inner cloak and dagger -- how much of cloak and how much of dagger, well, that's up to you. Urbane and sophisticated, making risky plays in Baccarat and seducing the young, rich and beautiful? If you like your ID numbers short with a few zeros in front, well, the United Nations Intelligence and Tactical Experts -- UNITE -- is likely your sort of organization. If the authorities can follow the line of half-destroyed buildings and flaming car wrecks straight to your slightly-dented tank, you should think about talking to the Paramilitary Global Operations Network -- ParaGON.To make your task a little easier, SOE has tossed together a video that should make it easier for you to decide whether people should know you as "The Saint" or "BAMF". Creeping, sneaking, assassinating and blowing-up goodness after the break.

While attending the SOE open house event last night after all the ION 08 panels were finished, we got the chance to sit down with The Agency's lead designer Hal Milton. He talked about the game at length, which of course meant our ears and eyes were firmly directed in his direction. The first thing we feel is important to mention before getting into some new juicy details, is the recent news about downloadable content for the spy-fueled action MMO. You see there's been some confusion and in speaking to Hal he expressed his desire to clear things up. Players will in fact be able to purchase things with their hard earned money in The Agency, however, these items will not be weapons or equipment. To be clear: From what Hal told us, nothing that gives one player an instant leg-up over another will be for sale. With that out of the way, lets get on to the new information.%Gallery-22924%

  • Bell intros BlackBerry Unite! software

Look! It's pretty and free! Though of course you're going to need a BlackBerry handset -- or a couple -- to make it all run smoothly, but we're sure Bell will help with that bit. The BlackBerry Unite! collaboration package is designed for families and small businesses to give them features like calendar sharing, mail access -- up to 10 accounts per person -- shared contacts, and access to shared files on the PC where the software is installed. Of course, there's a rub, the suite will only support 5 users, but that should hopefully float most peoples and some small home outfits boats. Now if only RIM would throw down some handsets to get the youngsters clamoring, then we'd really be talking.

Wouldn't it be cool if there was a little, teeny, tiny BlackBerry Enterprise Server tailored to families? After all, RIM's targeting the consumer market more aggressively than ever before with devices like the Pearl and Curve, so it makes sense to offer up a full menu of software to those same folks. Enter BlackBerry Unite!, a collaboration suite that sits on a PC and lets up to five peeps interchange calendars, access Internet and PC content, share media, and even manage and lock down phones connected to the service. Look for it to launch as a free download for Telefónica in Spain next month; no word yet on when we may see it elsewhere.[Thanks, Harjot]
