POWER UP in our gallerySega is bringing a Virtual Console-like experience to PC digital distribution platforms. Sega Genesis Classics is a series of individual Genesis games available for download via Steam and additional, unspecified download services. On June 1, PC users will be able to download Golden Axe, Ecco the Dolphin, Comix Zone, and Vectorman, "from $2.99." We don't yet know how the prices will vary per game, but even if just one is that cheap, it's quite a savings over the $8 Virtual Console price. The screenshots sent out by Sega also include images of Gain Ground, Altered Beast, Space Harrier, Crack Down, Sonic 3D Blast, and Shadow Dancer, so we can expect to see those games from the distant past on PC in the near future. Update: Sega's blog post about the collection clears up the launch lineup: all of these games will actually be available June 1. %Gallery-93483%

  • Concept art from canned Vectorman update emerges

Of all the canned games that we wish could see the light of day, the 3D update of Vectorman for PS2 is at the top of the list. ... Okay, maybe he's not at the top of the list, but he could probably walk there. ... Not walk, but it would be a short drive. So, as you've likely gathered, it's with a mountain of measured enthusiasm we present these recently unearthed pieces of concept art from the game, discovered by Siliconera. You can get a slightly better idea of what the game would have played like with the alpha footage after the break. As you'll see, it kind of looks like a blend of Blasto and Red Faction, which probably sounds a lot better in theory than practice.

A pseudo-classic Genesis sidescroller debuts on Virtual Console today, as well as an NES sports favorite ... but really, you're playing Mega Man 9 right now. We know. You're not even reading this, are you? Super Dodge Ball (NES, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): Without adding too much innuendo, the gameplay is pretty self-explanatory. You dodge balls. Vectorman (Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points): While he never became as popular as Mega Man, this robot fought without a torso, and best of all, could shoot upwards.

In the grand tradition of Xbox Live Arcade having one title announced, here comes the competition with four announcements in one. The Wii's Virtual Console will be seeing four games from Sega sometime soon and while they're not all winners, there is some good news. The good news is that the tragically under-appreciated Beyond Oasis will be making its way to the Virtual Console. The bad news is so is Sonic Spinball, Sword of Vermillion and Vectorman. Unless of course you enjoy them. In that case, congratulations! At 800 points each ($8.00), they're all somewhat of a hard sell, but Beyond Oasis is certainly worth a download if you never got a chance to play it before. Others like Vectorman, on the other hand, are proof that nostalgia can be quite the mistress.Coincidentally, all of these titles have been available on GameTap for quite some time.%Gallery-1764%

Of all the classic games in Sega Genesis Collection, Altered Beast is probably the one I have the most fond memories of. I remember, as a wee lad, going over my cousin's house to see him play it on his new Sega Genesis. Back then, the graphics were so unbelievably awesome, and when I saw the main character transform into a werewolf, I just about died with excitement. It's truly a classic. And the Vectorman series is a classic in its own right. In Vectorman 2, which was released in 1996, you are charged with battlng mutant insects and ultimately saving the world by defeating the Black Widow Queen.
