  • KRASNOYARSK TERRITORY, RUSSIA - APRIL 7, 2020: Aeroflot passenger planes at Krasnoyarsk International Airport. Russia has halted all international flights since March 27, 2020, amid the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, except for repatriation flights. Since April 4, every repatriation flight has to be pre-arranged; Russian citizens arrive at Sheremetyevo Airport only, with the number of passengers per day limited to 500. The passenger traffic in Russian airports has decreased by 89% compared to April 2019. Andrei Samsonov/TASS (Photo by Andrei Samsonov\TASS via Getty Images)

The COVID-19 quarantine is grounding airlines around the world and that's hindering our ability to predict the weather.

If the melting ice caps and recent wildfires didn't tip you off, NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) have hard data showing that the effects of climate change are only getting worse. According to the agencies, 2019 was the second hottest year since record keeping began in 1880, and was only topped by 2016's temperatures. The trend is clear: Every decade since the '60s has, on average, been warmer than the one before it. Even more alarming is the fact that the past five years have been the hottest five on record.

According to the World Meteorological Organization in Geneva, the new record high temperature on continental Antarctica is a downright pleasant 63.5 degrees Fahrenheit (17.5 degrees Celsius). The measurement was recorded at the Esperanza base on March 24th, 2015 but was confirmed this week as part of the WMO's ongoing study of extreme weather and climate conditions around the world.

Aside from paying someone to scream "this is a problem" into everyone's faces, there's not much more that the UN can do to tell us that we're heading towards an environmental catastrophe. The United Nations' World Meteorological Organization has found more proof of our forthcoming doom, showing that atmospheric carbon dioxide levels rose faster between 2012-2013 than any other year since 1984. If the rate doesn't slow down, then the levels will reach 400 parts per million in the next two years - a figure well in excess of the 350ppm that most climate scientists believe is "safe."

  • Spiritual Guidance: Tools to evaluate a Discipline Priest

Every Sunday (usually), Spiritual Guidance will offer practical insight for priests of the holy profession. Your host is Matt Low, the grand poobah of World of Matticus and a founder of No Stock UI, a new UI and addons blog for WoW. After a minor hiatus, Matticus examines the pain that many Discipline Priests experience: That they're just not good enough and how to even the odds. Apologies for the lengthy delay. I needed to grab some field data which took way longer than it should have. Coincidentally enough, Amanda Dean wrote about this very same issue a few days ago concerning healing meters and Discipline Priests. It still makes me sad every time I read about this. A raid leader or heal leader asks a Discipline Priest to go back to Holy because they feel their performance isn't good enough. In most cases, I think it's just them not truly understanding how Discipline works. It has always been about prevention not healing.
