This week's most notable release is surely Camelot's latest and greatest golf game, We Love Golf. We've been covering the title for quite some time and are glad to see it finally release. Will it offer up a better experience than other competition on the console, such as Super Swing Golf 2 and Tiger Woods 09? Only time will tell. We Love Golf isn't the first golf title that Camelot has worked on. After pioneering the Hot Shots! franchise, they then worked on the Mario Golf games. Now, we're all awaiting the release of We Love Golf, which hits retail shelves in North America next week. Siliconera recently got the chance to talk with Camelot's founding brothers, Hiroyuki and Shugo Takahashi, about the upcoming game. The two talk about many things, from the importance of motion-based controls, to how development on previous titles have aided them in creating wha they think is a very solid product. We don't know about you, but we're pretty pumped for We Love Golf.%Gallery-10822%

  • Developers dish on My Life as a King on the Nintendo Channel

While we do love all different kinds of trailers and videos to spaz up our normally dull internet lives, we really appreciate when we come away with something useful after watching one. That's why we love developer's diaries, especially ones that involve the beloved Square Enix, and especially when said Squeenix game is WiiWare's My Life as a King. With the exception of the almost monotonous voice-over work, we found the video and the tidbits of info offered interesting. Note, though, that we're still a little bitter about the "content updates," which is the developers' euphemism for "Square Enix maiming our wallets for stuff that should have been included in the first place." Nothing else too special hit the video channel, aside from some previews of upcoming games. Here's the full list, though, for you to judge: Developer's Voice - FFCC: My Life as a King (embedded above) SPOGS Racing Info Video Get Wii Fit with Alyson: Strength Training We Love Golf! • We Love Tiny Golf Bags

... and Capcom totally knows it. That's why they're tempting prospective golfers with a fun-sized golf bag, which is actually meant to hold the Wii Remote that substitutes for clubs in We Love Golf. Clever, right? The golf bag accessory comes in a jaunty red and looks just big enough to carry one Wiimote around. Since there's rarely any call for just a well-protected Wiimote clipped to something else (at least in our personal experience), this is bound to end up proudly displayed among other preorder items.GameStop is offering the accessory with copies of the game (shipping next month), as is Capcom's own perilous online store.

Following up those recent screens from We Love Golf, IGN has put up a bunch of new trailers for the game. If you're still anxious to hit the green with your Jill Valentine costume, we suggest you play golf at night (her outfits aren't good for golfing, we hear). But, if you want to play as Jill Valentine in a golf video game, then head past the break for more trailers from We Love Golf. One even shows the Zack costume in play. %Gallery-10822%

Summer is here (at least in the northern hemisphere), and the weather has been beautiful. It can almost be described as perfect golfing weather, only we can't golf (unless you're talking about the mini variety) and don't belong to any country clubs. Thanks to Camelot and Capcom's We Love Golf, though, we can at least get a virtual golfing experience next month. Check out the new screens below to see the characters dressed in even more Capcom outfits, such as Chun-Li's, Ryu's, Jill Valentine's (pictured), and more.%Gallery-10822%[Via press release]

While it would appear one of those characters is Morrigan, from the Darkstalkers games, that's actually just a costume on one of the new characters (so we guess this is the result of that poll?). There's also another costume that allows the other new character to dress up as Ken.Check out the new characters in our gallery below, which has been updated with over 20 new screens from the game.%Gallery-10822%[Via press release]

If there's one thing to keep us interested in video game golf it's alternate costumes, followed closely by karate masters and top-heavy succubi. Thankfully, however, Capcom is giving us all three in its upcoming Wii exclusive We Love Golf, which will let players dress their golfers as either Street Fighter blondie Ken or Darkstalkers femme fatale Morrigan, among other familiar faces. While the pair's North American-exclusive inclusion in the game was revealed last March following the results of a reader poll, Capcom took time today to send over some screens showing what we can expect when the duo hits the links on July 15. Check out the shots below, including what Capcom calls its "first African-American incarnation of Ken Masters." Shoryuken!%Gallery-23070%

  • Camelot reckons Golden Sun DS 'would be great'

So, we're all in agreement then. Currently hard at work on the European version of We Love Golf (for Wii, natch), the folks at Camelot have told Eurogamer that they rather like the idea of bringing Golden Sun, a popular series of role-playing games for the Game Boy Advance, to Nintendo's DS. "It would be great, wouldn't it!" said the seemingly excitable Hiroyuki and Shugo Takahashi. "We want to play that game too, just as much as you. We love Golden Sun!" The brothers also noted that the RPG genre is one they definitely plan on revisiting in the future, with their thoughts already wrapped around "RPG stuff." Said the Takahashi brothers: "Camelot is an RPG maker. We don't think that we'll ever quit making RPGs."

Camelot has always done a good job handling Nintendo sports, specifically those of the golf and tennis varieties, so We Love Golf is definitely on our watch list. This video also gives us a nice feeling about the title. Seeing some of our favorite Capcom characters in action is enticing, and we love the bright and cheery atmospheres. Most importantly, though, the gameplay looks spot-on. Now, all that remains to be seen is how well the Wiimote's motion controls work in the game.If Camelot managed to get that down, though, all of these elements combined with online play promises a very irresistible package.[Via Gemaga]

Well, it's not actually Zack. It's some We Love Golf-er in a Zack costume. That's why he looks so, you know, not like Zack at all. Capcom has just added a character likeness from their beloved Wii adventure to go with the other Capcom costumes found in the golf game. We enjoy silly costumes as much as we enjoy playing games online -- maybe more (we're weird)! Our gallery has been refreshed with a bunch of lovely new images from Capcom's Digital Day press event. Capcom's upcoming North American version of We Love Golf will add four-player online matches to the recently released Japanese game. Wii players will be able to connect with or without Friend Codes, and they'll have the option of Mii avatars in games.Due sometime this year, the Wii golf game is being developed by Camelot Software, long-time cartoon-golf developers. Collectables and other touches add value to the OCD set; the poll results are in, and we'll get Ken and Morgan costumes in this version. But screw those extras, Capcom had us at "Friend Code optional."%Gallery-18257%

Do you notice something missing from the Japanese boxart of We Love Golf? Perhaps, say, a little blue circle indicating online play?Yes, it's true, the Japanese version of We Love Golf doesn't support Wi-Fi. But, fortunately for us, Camelot made some changes to the game.Nintendo Power recently confirmed with the developer that online play was added to the American and European versions, making us even more excited for this title. If anything could top playing Wiimote golf as one of our favorite Capcom attorneys, it'd be adding an online experience on top of that.

  • Ken and Morrigan to love golf

Because it's now the law that all cartoony sports games must contain company mascots, Capcom recently asked fans who they'd most like to see make a cameo in the western release of Camelot's We Love Golf. A week and a half on, and the people have spoken, voting for Ken (from, duh, Street Fighter) and Morrigan (from the Darkstalker series).Neither character exactly springs to mind when golf is mentioned, though we suppose that's precisely the point. Mind you, we fear Morrigan especially will struggle to fit in. Will that choice of hair color really fly with the stuffy golf establishment? And what of those demonic wings sprouting from the side of her head? She'll be a pariah within minutes of flapping into the clubhouse.

Camelot's upcoming Wii golf title We Love Golf will feature Capcom-flavored alternate costumes for its male and female golfers, allowing players to tee off as Chun Li, Apollo Justice, Jill Valentine, or Arthur from Ghouls 'n Ghosts. The fun doesn't stop there, however, as Capcom is allowing fans to vote on the final two Capcom characters to be included in the North American and European versions of the game.By heading over to the official Capcom blog, players will be able to vote for one female character, and one male character. Female character choices consist of Cammy (Street Fighter), Morrigan (Darkstalkers), Rouge (Power Stone), Roll Caskett (Mega Man Legends), and Ashley Graham (Resident Evil 4).The male options are Frank West (Dead Rising), Balrog (Street Fighter), Guy (Final Fight), Ken (Street Fighter), Dhalsim (Street Fighter), and Captain Commando (former Capcom mascot and protagonist of the arcade game of the same name). At the moment, Ken and Morrigan are both leading their respective polls. Of course, we wonder why Capcom can't simply include all the characters in the game, but we'll take what we can get.[Via Wii Fanboy]

As the picture above demonstrates, Camelot's We Love Golf will allow us to play a round as Apollo Justice, while other characters confirmed for the title include Chun Li (Street Fighter), Jill Valentine (Resident Evil 3), and Arthur (Ghouls 'n Ghosts). We can't comprehend how anybody would not want to play golf as Apollo Justice, but if you're not a fan of the bequiffed lawyer (weirdo), then Capcom has set up a poll on its official blog to ask readers which characters they'd most like to see in the U.S and European versions of the game. You can vote for one female and one male character, with Cammy (Street Fighter), Morrigan (Darkstalkers), Rouge (Power Stone), Roll Caskett (Mega Man Legends), and Ashley Graham (Resident Evil) making up the female category.Meanwhile, the male list consists of Frank West (Dead Rising), Balrog (Street Fighter), Guy (Final Fight), Ken (Street Fighter), Dhalsim (Street Fighter), and Captain Commando (from, uh, Captain Commando). And yes, we know of at least one person who will be sorely disappointed with the lack of Zangief in that selection.

  • Another week in Japan: Hardware and software numbers 12/10-12/16

It's that time of the week again when we find out how the Wii and its games sold in Japan. While we really have no need to be worried about the hardware, certain unconfirmed numbers earlier this week did raise concerns about third-party software sales. So, how did the fair Wii fare in the land of the rising sun this week? Regarding hardware sales, the Wii just barely eked out in front of the PSP to take second place with 168,000 units sold, jumping up over 50,000 units from last week. As for the software, there's some good and bad news. Check after the break to see the numbers.

  • Rumor: Wii games face disappointing first day sales in Japan

    12.16.2007

This seems to be becoming a trend, but the handful of Wii games that were released this week in Japan are reported to have had poor first day sales. They were all third-party titles, which is also somewhat worrisome. Here's a look at the numbers: Chocobo's Dungeon (Square Enix) - 30,000 (30% sell through of initial amount shipped) NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams (Sega) - 7,000 (10% sell through) Soul Calibur Legends (Bandai Namco) - 5,000 (10% sell through) We Love Golf (Capcom) - 4,000 (10% sell through) Shikigami no Shiro III (Arc System Works) - 500 Granted, these are only rumored first day sales, and we'll have to wait until later in the week to get a better grip on the situation, but as of now it doesn't look good. So, what do we make of these numbers? If they're correct, is it bad news for the Wii and third-party developers, or just more evidence that Japan is shying away from console gaming? While the latter is certainly a factor, third parties certainly can't be happy to see low numbers. However, it's way too early to ring a death knell for any of these games, even if these numbers are correct. We'll just have to wait and see how these games perform in the next few weeks.[Via Cubed3]

Nothing much in the way of new games this week, save for the over-the-top golfing action of Super Swing Golf Season 2. And, with Capcom's golf game out on Japanese shelves, the links are receiving even more love on the Wii. So much golf, so little time! Are you going to be hitting the links, or are you playing something else? Going to get cozy with some friends and enjoy some multiplayer action? What are you playing?Update: My knowledge of golf is vast and intimidating. Actually, it isn't. Spelling mistake fixed.
