I guess we should just call this "Final Webcomic Wrapup," huh? With Joystiq closing its doors, the webcomic buck stops here. And you know what? It has its upsides. For example, now I can tell you all what I really thought of doing the webcomic wrapup for you week after week, consistently being told that none of the comics was funny. Yeah, that's what I'll do! I'll tell you exactly what I think. And you know what I think? I think it was fun, and I'd absolutely do it again. Thanks for reading. • Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is packing for PAX South

PAX is headed eastbound and down from its Seattle home base, and Joystiq will be there next weekend to cover its inaugural happenings. We'll even be participating in/hosting several panels, too! So join us, won't you? As for me, the last time I was in Texas was high school, when schools from the Houston area and schools from Iowa collaborated to participate in a competition at NASA, where we were all assigned to fake aerospace companies and challenged to come up with a feasible proposal that we would present to NASA scientists and astronauts. Within 48 hours. Or maybe it was 72. Either way, not much sleep was had, and tension was high. So PAX South will have a tough fight ahead of itself if it wants to earn the "most stressful time Sam was in Texas" achievement. Either way, let's not dwell on the past. For now, let's enjoy this webcomic wrapup by voting for your favorite after the break! Earlier this weekend, I was compelled to watch game console boot-up videos. You know, the little jingles and animations that play when you start up your system? So anyway, I start making my way forward by year of release. I get to the GameCube and ... no, no. You're seeing things. I'm not crying! Okay, maybe I got a little misty-eyed at the happy memories that these boot-ups were able to bring to mind. But I doubt I'm the only one. So what about you? It even runs at 60 frames per second! Amirite? Eh? Eh? Resolution jokes! Hold on, I've been informed that those are so 2014. My apologies. Well, let's just skip the jokes then, and get right to the heart of the matter: it's a new year, which means new promises and goals to make to ourselves. I've been working on getting more in shape, and I have a goal that come E3 2015 I'll have gained 10 pounds of muscle. I guess we'll see come June how well I hold to that. But what about you? Welcome back, Joystiq readers! Last year around this time, I asked you what you gave someone as a gift for the holidays. This year, it's okay to brag a little bit about what you got. But of course, as I am a sentimental sort, I'll tell you one of my favorite gifts I got this year: time with my dad. Now, this wasn't some super sappy father-son heart-to-heart moment or anything. On Christmas, my dad wanted to go into town and workout at the gym, and since I had some extra time before I needed to head out, I joined him. We played some classic rock that we both liked and did our routines, and he showed me some new tips and tricks to help me out (he's a big guy himself, and has trained with a former Mr. Universe competitor). Again, nothing deserving of a Lifetime movie, but I still appreciated his help and the time we spent together doing something we both enjoy. How about you? Still, the holidays are upon us now, and we hope you all have a very merry Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Festivus/Wookiee Life Day/whatever it is you choose to celebrate. • Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is a last-minute shopper

Confession time, readers: I have hardly done any Christmas shopping. Only a handful of people on my list are completely taken care of, meaning I still have a bevvy of brothers, sisters, step-family, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and one very sweet grandmother (Hi Grandma!) to buy gifts for. Part of this is due to simply not knowing what they would like (I refuse to buy gift cards), but I'll admit I could have been more proactive and not procrastinated as much as I have. Still, that makes this coming week very exciting to me. I like the challenge of trying to find the right gifts, and I also enjoy the mass of shoppers seen at the local mall. It forces me to sometimes think outside the gift box, so to speak, and come up with unique ideas for a present. But what about you? Did you line up outside your favorite store for Black Friday and close out your shopping early, or are you taking your sweet time like me? Maybe neither, and all your gifts are handmade? Sure, it might not be the Weekly Webcomic Wrapup's anniversary or Joystiq's anniversary, but you'll notice I didn't specify which anniversary I'm celebrating in the headline. Besides, crashing someone else's party is totally acceptable, especially when they invite you and give out as many goodies as Sony and the PlayStation brand did today during the first-ever PlayStation Experience, which coincided with the PlayStation's 20th anniversary. There's honestly so much news that to go over it here would take up too much of your time, so instead let's talk about the concept of anniversaries - unless you missed our coverage and need to see what the PlayStation Experience was all about, in which case click up above for a backlink to this weekend's coverage. What was a meaningful anniversary to you, and why? Doesn't even need to be gaming related, but if so that's fine too. Personally, I still fondly recall Sonic's 10th anniversary and the release of Sonic Adventure 2, even if it did give us Shadow the Hedgehog. But what about you? Forget Black Friday, the real showstopper for me this week was the teaser for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode 7 - The Force Awakens. I love the Star Wars universe and routinely remind people that my favorite game of all time is, to this day, Star Wars Galaxies because it let me explore and live in a galaxy far, far away. So, taking a small breather from games for a second, what did you think of the teaser? (If you've yet to see it, go ahead and click that link in the firs paragraph). There's a famous quote I often find myself referencing when the holiday shopping season starts, as it is about to do this week. Here, I'll share it with you now. Ahem: "You are not prepared!" - Illidan Stormrage, World of Warcraft. Yes, Black Friday (or "Black Thriday" as I've heard it called, since many stores are now opening their doors on Thanksgiving) is nearly here, and not all the raids and dungeons in the world can prepare you for the madness. In fact, while things are relatively calm and pleasant in my neck of the woods, there will no doubt be many shoppers who are injured or come into serious conflict this week. Since we check in with our webcomics every weekend, this is my chance to make sure I remind you to be cautious and take care of yourself in the midst of the shopping crazes. For the veteran shoppers, why not leave your tips and tales in the comments below, after you've voted for your favorite webcomic after the break? I don't know about the weather where you guys live, but this week, Iowa (which is where I'm from, and is the state with all the corn and pigs, in case you were wondering) got its first taste of real, honest-to-goodness winter. Our temperatures dipped, the winds kicked up, but most importantly, it's snowing. To that, all I can say is one word: Yesssssssss. Readers, I can't express to you how much I love the winter. For one, it's a great excuse to stay inside and play video games. "Oh no, friend. I couldn't possibly come out tonight. It's far too slick." Then there's the hot cocoa, the snuggling up to stay warm, the cheeriness of Christmas music (yes, I like it, shush) and fun activities like sledding and ice skating and you just can't go wrong. I love winter, and I'm thrilled that it's started snowing here in good old Iowa. How about you, though? What are your thoughts on winter and the snow? Alright folks, Halloween is over, time to chuck all this "spooky" stuff into the garbage and make way for pine trees, colored paper and yards upon yards of blinking lights. Turn off Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and turn up Michael Buble. What's that you say? There's a holiday between Halloween and Christmas? No ... No, I don't think that's right. Not according to the radio and retail stores, anyway. Yesterday, before Halloween was even over, I was hearing "Jingle Bell Rock" on the local FM station. The day before that, I stopped by several stores for last-minute costume supplies and found that not only were most locations picked clean, they had already been swapped out for Christmas decorations. I don't deny I'm a big fan of the holiday season, and you've probably heard this from others, but man this back-to-back consumer-focused holiday stuff is getting out of hand, at least in my opinion. But what do you think? Are you excited to move on, or do you miss the days of yore, when "Thanksgiving" was spoken of not as a myth, but an actual holiday that people took the time to celebrate? I'm having a blast with the Red Dragon games, and One Night Ultimate Werewolf is super simple and fast. With the recent release of Alien: Isolation and Halloween a few short weeks away, October's seasonal horror is in full swing. Time to start putting together your costumes, decorating your home and getting cozy with a scary movie or two (or three, or four). I consider myself a fan of the classics: Alien, Child's Play, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Halloween, Hellraiser, The Fly, The Exorcist and so on. Heck, I'll even throw in Pumpkinhead and Candyman just for good measure. And then there are some underloved horror films out there I'm always happy to show friends: In The Mouth of Madness, Storm of the Century, Phantoms, and I'm constantly surprised by how many people have never heard of John Carpenter's The Thing. 09.28.2014

Last week saw the release of Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes. Being the eternal 8-year old that I am, I scooped up each and every figure released for the game. That is, I bought them all, save one: Iron Fist. There is a simple reason for this, and it is that I find Iron Fist to be dull, dull, dull. I'm not hating on fans of the character, though. I mean, who am I to talk? My favorite comic series is Spawn, for crying out loud. (Yes, I know it's generally considered to be terrible, shush.) Besides, I think it's pretty clear that Infinity's version of Fist is derived from the Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors cartoon show, which doesn't really align with the Spider-Man cartoon I grew up watching. Times and tastes change, and that's okay. So my question to you this wrapup is: which character in the video game world is the one you leave behind? On Friday, September 19, something amazing happened. It was revolutionary. It was historic. It was ... a new iPhone. Yes, the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are now out in the wild, and while some people were literally trembling with excitement, I personally was very un-enthused. Don't get me wrong, the iPhone 6 seems like a nice improvement over its predecessors, and I don't look down on anyone for getting the happy-jitters, but for me, it was just another phone. Thus, my question to you this week is as follows: what's something you just didn't "get" the excitement for? What's a game, toy or piece of tech that failed to ignite your hype-osphere and send you careening off into the ether, riding a vapor trail of rainbows? It's been a long time coming, but Bungie's Destiny is finally here. We don't have a final word / review up yet, but if you're dying to know what we think, you can always check out our roundtable discussion or any of the other articles we have on the game. But Destiny is not the only game featuring space-faring heroes on a quest to save the galaxy. Bungie's own Halo games were quite similar in many ways to their new quasi-MMO shooter, and BioWare's Mass Effect trilogy is well-regarded as a defining series of the previous generation of gaming. So my question to you is: What's your favorite starbound game? What's the most fun you've had with a sci-fi setting in video games?
