Verizon's HTC Whitestone garners FCC approval
HTC's making some serious moves in North America at the moment -- not to say that's necessarily anything new -- and the Touch Diamond2 and Pro2 are both getting love from every angle. That's a good thing, we figure -- and the parade of high-end Windows Mobile hardware continues with the Whitestone, a presumed Diamond2 variant with a 3.6-inch WVGA display and 5 megapixel cam. Test documents confirm that it's CDMA / EV-DO, though we're not seeing any evidence of GSM; that doesn't necessarily mean it's not there since the FCC doesn't care to test non-US bands, but we definitely expected to see a full report on EDGE 850 / 1900. Now that the approval's in, Verizon, it's your move -- let's get the ball rolling, shall we?
HTC's Whitestone for Verizon, high-power Leo rendered again?
HTC' Leo and Whitestone have been mentioned enough times in different contexts this year so that we have absolutely no doubt that they're real -- the questions at this point revolve around what they are, what they look like, and when they're coming. We still don't have most of those answers, but the situation might be getting a little clearer with the latest round of supposedly leaked renders. First up, the Leo (pictured left) basically sounds like HTC's go-for-broke, ultra high-end model with an 8 megapixel camera, 4.3-inch (yes, 4.3-inch) WVGA capacitive display, 1GHz Snapdragon, and all the trimmings; how it fits in with the Touch HD-replacing Firestone is unclear, so we'll have to keep a close eye on that one. Next, the Whitestone pictured here on the right looks a little less in-your-face than the last shot, though we don't know whether this is a newer or older render; either way, though, we feel good in saying that Verizon's lined up for one of the coolest Touch Diamond2 variants on the block. Verizon's HTC Whitestone leaks out, along with the HTC Mega and Tachi
We've been hearing about Verizon's upcoming HTC Whitestone for a while now, and it looks like a new pic and specs for the upcoming dual-mode CDMA / GSM Touch Diamond2 variant have leaked out. Seems like a mixed bag -- the revised case with a larger 3.6-inch WVGA display is impressive, but inside you're looking at Windows Mobile 6.1 running on a 528MHz Qualcomm processor with 256MB of RAM, so you've certainly lived through this experience before. That's pretty much the same case with the HTC Mega, which also leaked today: although it'll ship with WinMo 6.5 and that hot new version of TouchFLO 2D, it's a lower-end device with a 2.8-inch QVGA display, a three megapixel camera and yet another 528MHz Qualcomm proc with 256MB of RAM running the show. Oh, and just to round things out, there's a pic of the Dopod-branded HTC Tachi, which probably means this one's headed for China. Always nice to put a face to a name, though isn't it? Verizon's HTC XV6975 turns out to be the Whitestone: 5 megapixels, no keyboard
Remember way back in March when HTC's 2009 lineup first started to come apart at the seams? You might recall that there was a "Whitestone" in there, rumored to be packing a wide VGA display, 5 megapixel camera, and global GSM / CDMA support for Verizon sometime around September. That leak looks to be proving frighteningly accurate now that Dutch site Tweakers.net has seen (and we've been able to verify) a user agent profile that describes the XV6975 in just enough detail so that we can fit the puzzle pieces together: 800 x 480 display and no keyboard, chiefly, and when you add to that the fact that we know it's got HSDPA on board from its GCF certification, you can pretty much see where this is going. Hard to say whether it'll launch with Windows Mobile 6.1 or 6.5 -- obviously we're pulling for 6.5, but if the rumored September launch is even close to accurate, that'll put it right on the cusp; fortunately, we'd fully expect it to be upgradeable either way. Separately, we're hearing that Verizon's Touch Pro2 is actually the XV6875, but the real question is this: at this point, which one do you want?
HTC 2009 lineup gets spec'd in detail?
Other than a few desperately-needed in-the-wild shots, we're getting close to knowing everything we need to know about HTC's 2009 lineup of devices -- or much of it, anyway -- and the latest leak certainly fills in some holes for us. The big news here might be the NVIDIA-powered SuperStar, featuring 512MB of ROM, 256MB of RAM, and a whopping 3.7-inch WVGA display that should be ready to take full advantage of the high-octane 600MHz chipset. That sucker will be running WinMo 6.5 out of the gate, suggesting it won't be out until later in the year; we've also got a couple Qualcomm-powered 6.5 handsets in the mix along with a plethora of 6.1 units that -- if HTC's current strategy holds up -- should be upgradeable to 6.5 when the time comes. So, what's this we have here? Over at the always-telling Global Certification Forum, we've stumbled upon a new HTC handset that's obviously headed for Verizon Wireless airwaves. The XV6175 namesake gives it away, but the smattering of GSM bands draws us to conclude that we're looking at a CDMA / GSM worldphone. HTC's rumored 2009 lineup gets fleshed out with specs, dates
Remember HTC's huge lineup leak from earlier this year? Apparently somebody has trickled a few more details about the sets out, as we get a better look at the when, the where, and the all-important how much. Of course, we have to preface the info on the following six sets with the fact that we've no way to know the absolute truth or if we'll see them land as things have a way of changing. So until you hear it from HTC, consider the following leak a thing of dreams. First up, the Firestone, a 3G set that replaces the Touch HD with a 3.6-inch WVGA display, an 8 megapixel -- HTC's first -- camera, runs Windows Mobile 6.5, and is slated to appear in August this year. Next, a slate-style set called Whitestone with the same display as the Firestone, a 5 megapixel camera, Windows Mobile 6.1, and is apparently a dual-mode GSM / EV-DO number due to launch with Verizon in the September timeframe. The Thoth -- Athena's replacement -- is also present with a 4.8-inch display, a 5 megapixel shooter, the Qualcomm 8250 CPU at 1GHz, and will also run Microsoft's newest Windows Mobile 6.5 when it lands in September. HTC's Twin is another dual-band candybar set with a 3.2-inch VGA interface (no date), the HTC Maple is an HTC Cavalier successor with a 2.4-inch screen, 2 megapixel camera, Windows Mobile 6.1 device that appears in May. Last up, the HTC Cedar, which was originally touted as debuting on Verizon in June and has potentially been canceled.
