When MSI builds an "all-in-one" PC, it doesn't mess around -- the MSI Wind Top AE2420 3D has everything but the kitchen sink ensconced in a plastic frame. Where most consolidated computers aim for the lowest common denominator with low-power components, MSI's dropped a high-end multimedia bomb here -- a 23.6-inch, 120Hz, 1080p, LED-backlit touchscreen LCD panel paired with a desktop-grade 2.53GHz Core i7-860S processor, Mobility Radeon HD 5730 graphics, a Blu-ray drive, 4GB of RAM, and a terabyte of storage. Active shutter glasses spit out 3D images to your eyes while THX speakers (and a built-in subwoofer) pump out jams, and 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth and USB 3.0 sockets round out a connectivity laundry list. It's got a spec sheet to die for and an equally lethal $1,800 price -- but is the AE2420 3D more than a bucket of primo parts? Is it worth your cash?
Typical, right? As the 3D craze flows from the cinema to the television and onto the PC, it was just a matter of time before one of MSI's Wind Top all-in-ones shipped with support for the third dimension. By most accounts, the new Wind Top AE2420 3D looks like a mildly larger version of the AE2220 we peeked late last year, touting a 24-inch 1080p multitouch panel, support for shutter glasses (a single pair is included), Core i5 or i7 CPU options and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD5730 pushing the pixels. There's also a pair of 5-watt speakers built-in, not to mention an Ethernet jack, VGA output and a handful of USB 2.0 sockets. Mum's the word on pricing, but MSI is expected to have this bad boy on display as Computex kicks off early next week. Yeah, you know we'll be there pretending to be embarrassed while donning the spectacles.

Update: Turns out we already spent some quality time with this guy back at CeBIT, only now it has a name. Now here's a spec sheet maven's dream: MSI has just announced its new Wind Top all-in-ones, and the top model brings every modern spec you can think of. Full HD resolution, 3D capabilities with 120Hz refresh rates, Intel processors up to Core i7, and even multitouch adorn its list of goodies. The new flagships will be known as the Wind Top AE2420 in the 24-incher category and AE2280 in the 22-inch class. They're joined by a selection of high-efficiency machines, such as the AP1920 and AE1920, which promise to cut down the electricity bills for "environmentally-minded business users." That's still hardly scratching the surface, though, as MSI is really preparing a small army of AIOs to display at CeBIT, and you can bet the house we'll be there to touch and ogle at their latest and greatest.
MSI converges everything with 24-inch 3D HD Wind Top all-in-one originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 23 Feb 2010 08:06:00 EST. In the land of netbooks and nettops, the tried-and-true all-in-one PC still has a place in this world yet. MSI is living proof of that, with its 21.5-inch Wind Top AE2220 bringing Windows 7, multitouch and an eye-pleasing design to the collective masses. Said machine just started shipping to consumers at the tail end of last month, and we've been fortunate enough to spend a few weeks tinkering with one of the most cost effective AIO options on the market right now. Thankfully for those who enjoy doing anything with relative speed, MSI overlooked the Atom range and went straight for the Core 2 Duo lineup, and for those with a bit of extra coin to spend, there's even an optional TV tuner and Blu-ray drive. Care to see how we felt about this touch-friendly rig after some extended play time? Read on to find out.
Over on the Wind Top side, it'll be introducing the all-new AP1920 all-in-one PC, which will measure in at 35mm thick and sport an 18.5-inch display, Atom D510 or D410 CPU and a power-sipping attitude. The nettop lovers will be thrilled to know that a new duo of mini PCs will also get unwrapped, as the Wind Box DC500 and DE220 step in with Intel's newest Pine Trail processors and a whole slew of companion components that we're still waiting to hear more on. Hey, we told you it was just a tease.
MSI teases Wind Top AP1920, Wind Box DE220 and DC500 originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 25 Dec 2009 10:14:00 EST. MSI's Wind Top AE2220 may have just started shipping 'round these parts a few weeks ago, but it looks like the company is already set to drop another model on the UK. While it remains mostly identical in appearance, the new Wind Top AE2020 scales things back a bit with a slightly smaller, lower resolution 20-inch, 1,600 x 900 display -- though you do still get the same multitouch functionality as its larger counterpart. Otherwise, you can expect to get an Ion chipset paired with a 2.1GHz Pentium T4300 processor, along with a standard 3GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, a DVD burner, and Windows 7 for an OS, among other standard all-in-one fare. Still no indication of this one making its way over here, but folks in the UK can apparently pick one up right now for £599.
MSI is on a roll with its Wind Top line of all-in-one machines, the AE2220 being the latest and, for the moment at least, the greatest. Its 21.5-inch screen (curiously .1'' smaller than when originally announced) supports multitouch, backed by Windows 7 Home Premium to ensure you'll never have a completely smudge-free image coming from the ION chipset. 4GB of DDR2 memory is included along with either a 2.2GHz T6600 or 2.1GHz T4300 Intel processor, while storage is now provided by a 500GB drive. Dual PCIe expansion slots gives it some hope of being upgradeable in the future, and VESA wall mount compatibility means you won't even have to clean up your desk. It hasn't shown up at retailers just yet, but Amazon is still listing a pre-order page at $699, $50 under MSRP and what we'd consider to be a very fair price indeed.

MSI's 21.5-inch multitouch Wind Top AE2220 all-in-one now shipping originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 18 Nov 2009 16:16:00 EST. MSI's Wind Top line seems to be expanding at a breakneck pace, and the latest entry is actually worth bending over backwards to get a look at. Boasting a 21.6-inch multitouch display (1,920 x 1,080 native resolution), the all-in-one desktop also features Windows 7 Home Premium, 4GB of DDR2 memory, a 640GB hard drive, NVIDIA's GeForce 9300 integrated graphics set (or Ion, if you please), an HDMI output, a bundled wireless keyboard / mouse and your choice of a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo T6600 or 2.1GHz Pentium T4300 processor. You'll also get eSATA support, WiFi, a 1.3-megapixel camera and a 6-in-1 card reader. Three versions are up for pre-order right now at Amazon, with the cheapest pegged at $659.99 and the most pricey at $899.99.

Those crazy kids over at Computer Shopper have got their hot hands on MSI's all-in-one Wind Top AE1900, and have been cool enough to share their thoughts with us. Sure, the thing is pretty snazzy (if not at all cutting edge, design-wise), and the 1.6GHz Atom CPU means that it's easy on the power use, but the reviewer feels that the $599 price tag is a bit much -- especially since it's outclassed by the similar Dell Studio One 19 (which'll only run you around $150 more). Other not-so-awesome factors include some seriously weak speakers, the fact that it ships with Windows Vista Basic (sans Media Center), and the Wind Touch software is apparently pretty awkward and counter-intuitive. But who knows? Maybe this bad boy will be right up your alley. Stranger things have happened. Hit that read link and decide for yourself.

Of course, there aren't exactly a ton of surprises to be found, but it does look like anyone hoping to upgrade the RAM may be out of luck, as the standard 2GB of RAM is simply soldered on with no slot provided for expansion -- although there seems to be a bit of confusion as to whether that'll be the case in the actual retail version, or just this early version sent out for review. MSI's eco-friendly Wind Top AE1900 has already been formally introduced and spotted over in Hanover earlier this year, but the outfit notorious for withholding price and availability information until the last possible moment has finally let loose those very details. The 18.5-inch all-in-one PC is available with an Atom 230 or 330 CPU, a 1,366 x 768 resolution touchscreen, integrated GMA950 graphics, 2GB of DDR2-533 RAM, a 160GB or 250GB hard drive, 4-in-1 multicard reader, dual-layer DVD writer, WiFi, gigabit Ethernet, a 1.3 megapixel webcam and audio in / out sockets to boot. Two configurations are available (both are shown after the break), with the lesser of the two going for $529.

Gallery: MSI's Wind Top AE1900 all-in-one PC

Continue reading MSI's Wind Top AE1900 all-in-one PC comes to US at $529

MSI's Wind Top AE1900 all-in-one PC comes to US at $529 originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 20 Apr 2009 13:00:00 EST. Those sexy X-Slim X340s weren't the only computers MSI was showing off ahead of CeBIT. The company also had on display three new Wind Top all-in-one desktop computers: the 19-inch AE1900, 20-inch AE2010, and 22-inch AE2200, each with touchscreen display. As for specs, here's what we know: the AE2010's running on an AMD 780G chipset with Athlon 1.5GHz, 2GB DDR2 RAM, DVD burner, and 1600 x 1900 resolution. We also spotted an Intel logo on the AE1900's placard and Windows XP on its screen, but other than that, we're pretty much in the dark here. With the Hannover conference just around the corner, here's hoping that shroud of mystery is promptly lifted. Check out a pic of the AE1900 after the break.
Continue reading MSI showcases Wind Top AE1900, AE2010, AE2200 touchscreen all-in-ones

MSI showcases Wind Top AE1900, AE2010, AE2200 touchscreen all-in-ones originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 23 Feb 2009 23:41:00 EST.
