Oregon Scientific's Portable WiFi Projector comes with a hinge, flirts with your ceiling
A projector from Oregon Scientific, you say? Nope, it's not one of those clock and weather projectors, but rather an actual DLP pico projector. At CES 2012, the company was kind enough to show us an early prototype of its Portable WiFi Projector that'll handle FWVGA (854 x 480) at 1,000:1 contrast and a good 80 lumens of brightness (50 if powered by USB alone). Apparently at 3.2 meters from the wall, such combination should produce a clear 120-inch wide picture in total darkness, so we shall see. The final unit -- dummy pictured above -- will be slightly smaller than the working prototype, yet it'll pack a 90-degree hinge (not a first, of course), a focus slide, a 3.5mm headphone jack and some buttons for brightness, power and volume.
Dell debuts wireless, 3D-capable S300w short-throw projector
Sure, we may one day all simply carry pico projector-equipped phones and ditch any other sort of display, but until then, there's still a place for projectors like Dell's new S300w model. Designed mostly with presentations in mind, the projector can produce a 90-inch, 720p image from a distance of three feet (or 60-inches from two feet), and it packs both built-in wireless capabilities and a so-called "Plug-and-Show via USB" feature for some added flexibility. You'll also get Crestron RoomView Express software bundled with the projector for remote operation and monitoring, and some decent enough all around specs, including 2200 ANSI lumens of brightness, a 2,400:1 contrast ratio and, of course, 3D capability (though not out of the box) -- all for $999.
OO HD wireless projector concept reaches for the stars, almost grabs 'em (video)
David Riesenberg obviously had his head in the clouds when he dreamed up the OO High Definition Wireless Projector, but it's not like we're kvetching about his imagination's ability to go far beyond the limits of most humans. For one thing, the concept 1080p projector looks (and lands) like a stunning orange UFO; for another, the specs are otherwordly. Should the device ever come to market, Reisenberg says it will pack SSD storage, WiFi and internal decoder chips into its svelte, 11-inch round carbon fiber frame, as well as three independently articulated legs for balance and a Li-ion battery for up to three hours of cord-free HD streaming and playback. Sanyo goes wireless with new line of projectors
Still haven't found a wireless projector that meets your needs? Then you may want to consider one of Sanyo's new LP-XU355 or LP-XU305 models, which each pack a standard XGA resolution and a new "Simple Wireless Setting" that lets you use an included USB drive to easily network with any computer. Otherwise, you can expect to get 3,000 or 3,500 ANSI lumens of brightness, a single 7W speaker in each, a wireless remote, and a full range of inputs, including a single HDCP-compliant DVI port. If you don't mind being tethered, you can also opt for Sanyo's new non-wireless LP-XU350, LP-XU300, LP-XU301, or LP-WXU300 models, which are each more or less similar to their WiFi counterparts, with the exception of the LP-WXU300, which ups the resolution to 1280 x 800. No word on a release 'round here just yet, but those in Japan can apparently look for the first of the lot (including the two wireless models) to roll out in May, with the remainder trickling out over the course of June and July.[Via Akihabara News]
Acer's P5260i WiFi projector beams imagery sans wires
Add one more to the WiFi projector heap, as Acer has just blasted out a new one. The P5260i features 802.11b/g WiFi and can theoretically support HD streaming of MPEG1/2/4, WMV, AVI, DivX, XviD, ASF and VOD files. Of course, the native 1,024 x 768 resolution puts a damper on all of that, but other specs you may be interested in includes the 2,700 ANSI lumens, 2,000:1 contrast ratio and VGA / DVI / HDMI inputs. We haven't seen a price / release date just yet, but don't count on it being exceptionally cheap.[Via SlashGear]
Epson launches EMP-1825 business projector in India
Sadly, Epson's latest projector will end up spending entirely too much time in the boardroom and not nearly enough time throwing up Halo 3 Portal matches in the lounge, but we suppose that's the life of a business projector, after all. The recently launched EMP-1825 offers up an XGA (1,024 x 768) resolution, 3,500 ANSI lumens, a USB 2.0 port and a CompactFlash slot for good measure. Most notably, however, is this thing's wireless skills, which enable it to beam out presentations without being tethered to a PC. Still, we'd like to see a resolution a little closer to 1080p before dropping Rs. 142,700 ($3,576).[Via AboutProjectors]
Hitachi intros CP-X417 wireless projector
Those looking for a little wireless connectivity from their projector now have yet another option to consider from Hitachi, which has just introduced its new CP-X417 model. Apart from that desirable-but-increasingly-common feature, the projector will give you a standard XGA resolution, along with 3,000 ANSI lumens of brightness, a full range of inputs (minus HDMI, it seems), and a promised 3,000 hours of lamp life in "whisper mode," not to mention a built-in 7 watt speaker. At just $900, it also shouldn't throw your budget off too much and you should be able to get your hands on one right now.[Via About Projectors]
Lindy intros Wireless VGA Projector Server
We know, it's never fun to think about spending even more time in the boardroom, but LINDY's looking to make things a bit easier around the office with the Wireless VGA Projector Server. Put simply, the device "enables users to easily network a projector or display monitor," which makes transfers much easier when switching between presenters. Up to 20 users can log in to the machine at one time, and an integrated browser interface "allows control to pass between the users." Notably, the box supports audio and MPEG1/2/4, 802.11g, Ethernet and Windows XP / Vista (sorry, Mac users), and can be thrown on the corporate card now for £299 ($608).[Via TechDigest]
