  • WoW Moviewatch: How World of Warcraft Should Have Ended

We're hoping our favorite game isn't coming to an end for a while yet, but that doesn't mean we can't still enjoy this classic animation that speculates on how Wrath of the Lich King should have come to a close. After all, if you're an end boss and your daily grind is being killed over and over, you'd get tired of it eventually and want a break. Unfortunately, for both Azeroth and Arthas' vacation plans, Deathwing ruins everything. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Death knights are inherently kind of creepy. And even with the revamp in Cataclysm, the Eastern Plaguelands are still pretty creepy as well, along with the death knight starting area on the eastern coast. Put that together with a little bit of Lorde and you've got Yellow Flicker Beat, a machinima music video from Time-Lost Productions. Time-Lost Productions has been doing these kinds of music videos for years, and it shows -- the production quality is good, the cuts are sharp, and the only minor critique I can make is that really I think the video would have stood on its own without the text that was added for emphasis. It totally didn't need it! If you liked the video, be sure to check out Time-Lost Productions' Youtube channel for more. Interested in the wide world of machinima? When Sharm came out with the garrison-themed musical parody All About My Base, I figured it would only be a matter of time before we saw a machinima created for it, and I was right. Music video master Khayllys has done it again, creating another musical machinima that perfectly accompanies Sharm's music. Khayllys' work is always solid -- the video uses the new model and scenery of Warlords to full effect here. The only minor complaint I have is the choice of the camera-shaking effect in so many scenes. Used once or twice it's fine, but used in swift and repeated succession, it kind of gives me a headache. It's a minor complaint though, as I said, and the video itself is well worth the watch. If you like the machinima, be sure to hop over to Khayllys' Youtube channel for plenty more. Ganking in a Nutshell is the latest release from Nixxiom Machinima, and tells the relatively straightforward story of what goes on between ganker and gank-ee in a typical ganking encounter. On its own, that might not sound like much, but what I love about this particular piece is that the new male tauren model is highlighted so effectively here. You almost have to stop and watch it again, because the difference between old and new is so, so pronounced -- expression and emotion are conveyed so much more effectively that I kind of hope we see a lot more tauren movies in the future. Beyond that is Mr. Flowers, who manages to effectively hammer home the reason I never, ever use the Singing Sunflower for anything. I'm not saying he's creepy ... wait. Yes. Yes I am. He's one of the creepiest pets out there. If you like the movie, be sure to check out Nixxiom's Youtube channel to see more. Interested in the wide world of machinima? Wowcrendor is on a roll with the 10 days of Winter Veil celebration he's got going on on his Youtube channel. The latest submission is one of my favorite things -- a pointless top 10 list! Yes, the feature has made a short return with a list of Pointless Top 10 Winterveil Things that you'll see scattered around the world. It didn't take long for the video to completely win me over. Number 8 on the list pretty much sent this particular pointless top 10 to the top of my favorites. I think my favorite part of the film however was the moment in which Wowcrendor was suddenly struck with the idea for a new video while creating this one. There's just something infectious about gleeful excitement (and the video idea was a really good one that I hope we see!). As always, if you like what you're seeing, be sure to check out Wowcrendor's Youtube channel for more holiday hijinks and Warcraft machinima. Interested in the wide world of machinima? • WoW Moviewatch: Rent-An-Orc

I didn't really think I needed an orc in my life, but I may have just changed my mind thanks to today's machinima offering. Rent-An-Orc is a pretty short little film, and I think this may be the first piece I've seen from Youtuber wthMerhaba. It's a simple premise -- Ragnar the Bloodthirsty has come under some financial strain, and is now offering his services via informative infomercial to assist would-be customers with their lives in a variety of colorful and suitably orcish ways. Sounds simple enough, and the film itself is pretty simple too, but the subject material is funny, the voiceovers work really well, and the added bonus to the offer had me in stitches. Sometimes things don't have to be incredibly fancy to be perfect -- a good joke and a good delivery will get you everywhere. If you like what you see, check out wthMerhaba's Youtube channel for more. Here's hoping we'll see a lot more from him in the future. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! • WoW Moviewatch: Pride

    11.23.2014

Fair warning: This is a very, very long machinima, clocking in at over and hour and a half, and there is some NSFW language at various points in the film. If, however, you were looking for the ultimate in Siege of Orgrimmar story machinimas, this is it. We featured the trailer for Pride just before BlizzCon, and the movie itself came out on November 5, just as everything was beginning to kick off in Anaheim. However, the trailer has nothing on the full film, which features the story of a group of horde heroes who have let the Sha of Pride tear their group apart, but manage to pull together to achieve the impossible, and defeat Garrosh Hellscream. The film is a pretty amazing combination of Blizzard cinematics and voiceovers interspersed with the main story written by Suge. And on top of all of that, actual raid footage from the Siege of Orgrimmar was also used to full effect, showcasing guilds The Fallen and Blow fighting the 25m Heroic (now Mythic) version of Garrosh Hellscream and his cohorts. It's a pretty amazing film, and although there are a few voice actors with less than optimal microphones, it really doesn't matter so much in the long run. Pride may run a little long, but it's worth the watch. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! • WoW Moviewatch: Tree of Life

    11.22.2014

I'd missed the first part of today's story when we featured it a little over a year ago, but both the first part of this tale and today's Moviewatch are pretty amazing. Nixxiom originally released The Druid last year, a story about a druid who shares a story with a priestess of Elune. It was a really well done story, and the visual effects, despite using the older models, worked remarkably well in conjunction with it. Tree of Life returns to Ashevn the druid, who is still telling stories in the Temple of Elune. This time, there is no script, simply a haunting soundtrack to accompany the visuals. And even without words -- maybe even because there are no words -- the movie is incredibly effective. I really love the play of black and white vs. color that takes place throughout the piece, it really hammers home the key parts of the tale. Give it a watch -- and if you like it, be sure to check out Nixxiom's Youtube channel for more machinima. Interested in the wide world of machinima? • WoW Moviewatch: Pointless Top 10: Shipwrecks in WoW

    10.14.2014

Have you missed Wowcrendor's Pointless Top 10s? Besides a list of the top 10 top 10s, it's been a while since we've seen a new top 10 from Crendor. But wait no more, because we have been graced by a new -- but still completely pointless -- top 10 list. This week, we're talking shipwrecks. Because it's a pointless top 10 and not a super serious top 10 (do those even exist?), there are some liberties taken... like the inclusion of a whale, which is not a ship. (Unless maybe you put a saddle on it.) Still, if you haven't taken the time to explore the myriad coastlines of Azeroth this gives you a look at the surprising number of devastating wrecks along the shorelines. And, while some of these were clearly the work of the cataclysm or attack, with the sheer number of shipwrecks -- the list is a long way from comprehensive -- you've got to wonder whether Azeroth's captains are terrible or Azeroth's ships are terrible. Or maybe both. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? • WoW Moviewatch: MoP in Reverse

    by

    10.04.2014

Slightly Impressive is back with a new machinima featuring the heartwarming tale of an orc named Garrosh Hellscream who saves the world and makes a huge, long-lasting impression on Azeroth. Or rather, this is the story of Mists of Pandaria told in reverse. Oddly enough, it's a much more uplifting experience than the actual expansion, which kind of ended on a melancholy note, although everything was wrapped up, taken care of, and generally put in some semblance of order. I'm not quite sure what I love best about this particular piece, because there were several stand out moments that made me laugh. As always, I'm a fan of his twisted view of Jaina Proudmoore, who makes another appearance here. But I think it's probably the unlikely singing that really got me, along with the slow realization that telling the story in reverse actually sounds more like a Thrall-style story than a Garrosh story. It's almost as if Thrall is Hellscream backwards. Who knew? If you liked this, don't forget to pop over and check out the rest of Slightly Impressive's work on his YouTube channel. • WoW Moviewatch: Pointless Top 10: Skies in World of Warcraft

    09.14.2014

Today we have another of Wowcrendor's Pointless Top 10 lists -- this time, doing some more looking up at skies, almost a companion piece of sorts to his earlier top 10 list of ceilings. I'm a big fan of looking up and taking in all the sights when I'm running around Azeroth, but Crendor's managed to point out a couple of skyboxes I really just hadn't taken note of before. For some reason, it appears as though I spent the majority of Wrath of the Lich King doing anything but checking out the sky. While I don't necessarily agree with his number one choice, I've visited the location mentioned quite a few times and admired the sky. I am pretty happy that Winterspring made it on the list, though. Winterspring is one of those kind of underrated zones that people don't really spend a lot of time in, but the skies above all the snowy landscape are honestly some of the prettiest vistas in the game. What do you guys think? Any skies out there that you think should have made the list? Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! • WoW Moviewatch: Garrosh takes the Ice Bucket Challenge

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has taken the internet by storm over the last few weeks, but now it's making headway into virtual life, too, as Garrosh takes on the challenge. In case you've missed out (or been without internet for the past month), the premise is simple: when challenged, you dump a bucket of ice water on your head or donate to the ALS Association to help fight ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease). Sure, you could just donate, but making and sharing Ice Bucket Challenge videos is most of the fun. However, Garrosh clearly isn't taking this challenge seriously: "We are the Iron Horde and slightly icy water will never stop our might!" What Garrosh doesn't realize is that ice water is cold. Really cold. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Westfall Pumpkins is a tale of not-so-friendly competition between two determined farmers entering into a pumpkin-growing contest. Like any good rivalry, the pair are in no way content to let the other do their thing, and just can't bear to be outdone. In Azeroth, though, we know that nobody is content to let nature simply take its course, and so alchemy, magic, and an impressive judging panel rule the day in this entertaining tale of gardening gone wrong. Whose pumpkin will take home the blue ribbon? You'll have to watch to find out. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! If you aren't in the Warlords beta, you're stuck killing time until the expansion comes out later this year... which at this point is a bit yawntastic. However, there are some things you can do to get ready for Warlords of Draenor, and Doronsmovies has some tips. Sure, it's killing time, but what else is a WoW-player to do right now? If you'd rather check out beta footage, Doronsmovies has also done a Frostfire Ridge montage to give you a tour of the new horde zone. Though while the video embedded above has no expansion spoilers, the Frostfire Ridge video does show off new game content, so don't watch it if you're avoiding expansion info. Wowcrendor's Pointless Top 10 lists are usually really, really pointless... but since it's right there in the name, you know what you're getting into when you click. But that said, we always wind up laughing at even the most pointless of pointlessness, so we keep watching them. Today's Pointless Top 10 is actually less pointless than usual, since it takes you to the Warlords of Draenor alpha to find the coolest mobs on Frostfire Ridge. We hate to break it to you, Wowcrendor, but #10 is on fire and therefore it can hardly be considered cool... but other than that we take no objection to these coolness rankings. So why not take a tour of Frostfire's most interesting and/or pointless inhabitants? Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Wowcrendor is back with another top 10 list. In Pointless Top 10: Useless NPCs in World of Warcraft, he's counting down all those NPCs scattered around Azeroth that lack any discernible purpose, randomly roam in the middle of nowhere, stare at a wall, or are quite simply no longer useful. I really like this current series Wowcrendor has going, not just because it's funny, as is pretty much everything he puts out, but because it often reminds me of those odd little things here and there that I'd forgotten about. Like poor Sognar Cliffbeard, the meat vendor. But I have to say, I'm pretty sure that Topper McNabb has a mansion somewhere in the outreaches of the kingdom, purchased with all the coins people have thrown at him over the last 10 years in an effort to get him to shut up. He's the quiet master of the art of panhandling, I bet you. And if, in another 10 years, Azeroth is suddenly obliterated, he'll be laughing at us all from the depths of his terribly comfortable and lavishly furnished panic room, created especially for the purpose of survival. Yeah, don't think I'm not on to you, McNabb. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Sometimes you just need to go back, not just back to the good times of Cataclysm or Wrath, but all the way back to the Sunwell. Let me tell you a story: Twenty five people, gathering for a month, night after night, just attempting to get the positioning and coordinated movement down for Kalecgos. And after that? Everyone had to pull 1,400 DPS just to get down Brutuallus, followed by a march to the end. Do I want to go back, back to the Sunwell? Heck yes I do. And after this skillfully edited video, you will too.

It's not often you see a commercial parody in a WoW machinima--well, maybe parody isn't the right word. This Brad Bergman video isn't so much making fun of the commercial as it is recasting it using WoW as footage, instead of the original. The manipulations around the characters mouths and the clever use of idle animations are what really sell this clip. Unusual as the genre may be, it's worth a shot. Give it a watch if you get a kick out of WoW-ified film audio, and I hope it brings a smile to your face, as it did mine! Interested in the wide world of machinima? Work Warning: WoW characters dressed in skimpy clothes and carefully-draped hair. It's been a while since we've seen a new Lady Gaga machinima, but Killer Cookie is here to bring us up to spec. The Applause is a WoW visionary take on the Lady Gaga song, complete with singing trolls and more than a few dancing blood elves. (There's always dancing blood elves.) In terms of music videos, The Applause delivers on its promise. The animation is convincing and a great deal of fun. If you're looking for story-based goodness, there's not much here for you.
