Are you nostalgic for a time when the word "zeppelin" stood for leisurely intercontinental travel for the rich and famous, rather than <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/05/bowers-and-wilkins-zeppelin-air-review/">bass-heavy portable sound</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/03/motorola-zeppelin-spotted-again-android-ness-confirmed/">MotoBlur phones</a>? Take heart, as Ukrainian entrepreneur Igor Pasternak claims to have solved the "buoyancy problem" that has long limited the usefulness of airships. The problem is that burning fuel or dropping cargo lightens the ship, which then needs to vent costly helium to return to earth; without a way to control buoyancy, take-offs and landings become complicated to the point of uselessness. Pasternak claims to have solved this sticking point by compressing the pricey gas, thereby conserving it for later use. The Defense Department (which loves its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/20/us-air-force-enlists-super-blimp-for-blue-devil-surveillance-ini/">warblimps</a>) has contracted his company, Aeros, to provide a working demonstration by 2012-13. Dubbed Pelican, it will only fly without a payload at first -- but if the technology proves feasible, we might just see a new Era of Airships.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/09/miraculous-aeros-airship-set-to-fly-by-2013-thanks-to-dod-fun/">'Miraculous' Aeros airship set to fly by 2013, thanks to DOD funding</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 09 May 2011 05:38:00 EST. What's that, an alien egg? Nope. Memory foam iPillow? No, silly, it's a <em>Zeppelin</em>, a Zeppelin Air more specifically. Bowers &amp; Wilkins brought us the first iPod-centric<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/03/bowers-and-wilkins-cranks-out-ipod-lovin-zeppelin-speaker/"> Zeppelin</a> in the middle of the great iPod dock flood of '07. A few years later they downsized and brought us a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/18/bowers-and-wilkins-zeppelin-mini-impressions/">mini</a> version. The logical extension after the advent of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/airplay">AirPlay</a> is here: a Zeppelin that does its thang without wires. We've been beaming music to it for a few weeks now -- wanna find out how our relationship has been? Click through, captain.<br />

Fine purveyor of high end audio products <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/bowers%20and%20wilkins">Bowers &amp; Wilkins</a> is on hand here at Digital Experience showing off its latest product, the Zeppelin Air. An addition to its existing Zeppelin line, the Air adds in <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/airplay">AirPlay</a> functionality for effortless streaming from iTunes or an iOS device. Stainless steel accents complement the oblong shaped boombox, and it can connect to your home network using either WiFi or Ethernet. We couldn't objectively judge sound quality in the acoustics of this massive Caesar's Palace conference room, but we'd expect nothing less than the best considering the price tag -- a steep $600. Feel free to feast your eyes on some speaker porn in the gallery below, that doesn't cost a thing.<br />

It's no secret that Bowers &amp; Wilkins has a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/18/bowers-and-wilkins-zeppelin-ipod-dock-hits-apple-stores/">tight relationship</a> with Apple -- so it was only a matter of time until <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/airplay">AirPlay</a> made its way onto the company's design-a-licious Zeppelin line. Now after being teased in <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/01/apples-airplay-music-streaming-coming-to-third-party-speaker-do/">Apple's own promos</a>, the Zeppelin Air is official. On the outside, it looks virtually identical to its older blimp brethren, but internally the speaker has been completely redesigned and features new 24bit / 96KHz capacity DACs. B&amp;W is so proud of the result that they're touting it as their best sounding iPod speaker ever. Another bit of good news is the Zeppelin Air is compatible with every current iPod and iPhone out there granted it runs iOS 4.2. A handy USB input also provides flexibility for streaming music directly from a computer and even syncing an iPod / iPhone without removing it from the dock. Price is still an unknown but based on the other Zeppelins we're guessing it won't be cheap. For the full details be sure to read through the PR after the break and drool over the included gallery. <br />

<a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/motorola">Motorola</a> has just announced its eighth <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/android">Android</a> phone at MWC, dubbed the CLIQ XT or Quench outside the US (and previously known as the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/03/motorola-zeppelin-spotted-again-android-ness-confirmed/">Zeppelin</a>). Highlights include a 3.1-inch touchscreen with a mysterious "high-resolution" (last time we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/03/motorola-zeppelin-spotted-again-android-ness-confirmed/">heard</a>, it was 480 x 320), "pinch and zoom" touch capabilities, 5 megapixel camera (with autofocus and LED flash), a navigation touchpad and a dual-mic noise cancellation system. The rest of the features are pretty bog-standard: stereo Bluetooth, AGPS, FM radio, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/motoblur">Motoblur</a> and Adobe Flash Lite. Unlike the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/cliq">CLIQ</a> there's no physical keyboard here, but if that's how you roll then look out for T-Mobile USA's launch and pricing for this phone next month. The rest of us shall quench our thirst with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/03/android-display-battle-in-the-end-there-can-be-only-one/">something else</a> for the time being.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/15/motorola-cliq-xt-quench-joins-the-android-family-at-mwc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Motorola CLIQ XT / Quench joins the Android family at MWC</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/15/motorola-cliq-xt-quench-joins-the-android-family-at-mwc/">Motorola CLIQ XT / Quench joins the Android family at MWC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 15 Feb 2010 04:09:00 EST. The ironclad legitimacy of this slide can't be confirmed, but considering what we know and what we've heard about T-Mobile USA's plans for the next few months, we can totally buy what we're seeing here. The PowerPoint masterpiece -- which showed up on a <em>PPCGeeks</em> forum thread recently -- has the midrange Android-powered Motorola <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Zeppelin/">Zeppelin</a> as the "CLIQ XT" with a target launch of March 10, giving customers already flush with choices yet another way to get their Google on. Next, the Nokia "Nuron" (which looks an awful lot like a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/5230/">5230</a> to us) is being billed as a "low-cost touchscreen" with 3G and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/OviStore/">Ovi Store</a> access for a March 17 date with destiny, and finally, the mighty <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HD2/">HD2</a> -- which we already <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/06/htc-hd2-officially-headed-to-t-mobile/">know</a> is coming to T-Mobile -- is said to be ready come March 24. Now, don't get us wrong, the HD2 is a helluva phone -- but if <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/WindowsMobile7/">Windows Mobile 7</a> is really unveiled in a few days at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MWC/">MWC</a> like everyone expects, that's going to make the launch of a high-end 6.5 device just a little anticlimactic.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/06/t-mobile-getting-moto-cliq-xt-htc-hd2-nokia-nuron-next-month/">T-Mobile getting Moto CLIQ XT, HTC HD2, Nokia Nuron next month?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 06 Feb 2010 13:07:00 EST. Yes, we've <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/27/motorola-zeppelin-spotted-hopping-train-to-barcelona/">seen this puppy before</a> -- but last time, we'd merely <em>heard</em> it was running Android. This time around, we've got a little more confirmation that the so-called Zeppelin from Moto is sporting Google code (allegedly <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Cupcake/">Cupcake</a>, sadly) with a dash of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Blur/">Blur</a> added in for good measure. <em>Gizmodo Brazil</em> -- which scored some time with a prototype -- suggests that this'll see duty on the lower end of Motorola's smartphone lineup, and we tend to agree considering the HVGA display that takes up far less space than it could if Moto had wanted to go for broke. A keyboardless companion to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CLIQ/">CLIQ</a> / <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/DEXT/">DEXT</a>, perhaps? Carriers are an open question here, but we've heard rumblings of interest on T-Mobile USA's part; the site says it'll hit streets in March, so we shouldn't have long to wait to find out.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/03/motorola-zeppelin-spotted-again-android-ness-confirmed/">Motorola Zeppelin spotted again, Android-ness confirmed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 03 Feb 2010 14:25:00 EST. First, a disclaimer: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/14/motorola-zeppelin-outed-as-the-xt800-for-china-telecom-us-get/">we've heard the "Zeppelin" name before</a>, both from Motorola and from Palm before that -- we have no idea why it keeps coming up, particularly given the obvious references to epic disasters. That said, <em>mobil.cz</em> is reporting that this rather shapely device is an all-new Motorola smartphone bearing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Android/">Android</a> and the Zeppelin name that's scheduled for unveiling at MWC in Barcelona next month. It's said to have touch-sensitive buttons below the display, a 5 megapixel cam, 3.2-inch HVGA display, GPS, and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Blur/">Blur</a>, presumably (well, hopefully) based on Android 2.0 or 2.1. In other words, it won't be the highest-end phone on the block, but it won't be the lowest, either -- and it could very well be the most stylish. If this is legit, we shouldn't have too long before we find out.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/27/motorola-zeppelin-spotted-hopping-train-to-barcelona/">Motorola Zeppelin spotted hopping train to Barcelona?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 27 Jan 2010 11:56:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/BowersAndWilkins/">Bowers &amp; Wilkins</a> isn't a name that's generally associated with "mere mortals." Sure, you'll find B&amp;W gear within <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2009/01/23/bowers-and-wilkins-reveals-xt-8-tower-3-500-per-pair/">palatial mansions</a> and the <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/03/15/2009-jaguar-xkr-to-come-with-bowers-and-wilkins-sound-system/">drool-worthy motorcars</a>, but by and large, these guys stick to the high-end and never bother coming down to the level of the layperson. Thanks to Apple, it seems that even this company couldn't resist the temptation of pumping out its own iPod sound system, with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ZeppelinMini/">Zeppelin Mini</a> being the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/03/bowers-and-wilkins-cranks-out-ipod-lovin-zeppelin-speaker/">second</a> that it has sold. At $399.99 (MSRP), this one is positioned alongside more pricey options like Bose's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2004/09/17/bose-launches-sounddock-for-the-ipod/">SoundDock</a>, JBL's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/07/jbl-busts-out-a-slew-of-ipod-docks/">On Stage 400P</a>, Altec Lansing's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/28/altec-lansing-mix-imt800-really-wants-to-be-a-boombox-isnt/">Mix iMT800</a>, iHome's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/14/ihome-ip1-isnt-bad-for-an-ipod-dock-packs-a-bongiovi-punch/">iP1</a> and Boston Acoustics' i-DS3. As is typical with B&amp;W gear, the Zeppelin Mini is nothing short of beautiful, but do the acoustics really match the design? Read on for a few of our impressions.<br />

Could this end up being the prettiest Android device to date? We don't want to call it before we have it in our own two hands, but China Telecom's likely entrant from Motorola -- the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/XT800/">XT800</a> -- is looking better than ever in these live action shots unearthed by Chinese site <em>tgbus</em>. What's interesting here is that Moto's reusing the font first seen on the Droid's dock standby screen for a new home screen date / time widget, but the old-school Power Control widget below it has us believing that we're looking at an older <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Android20/">Android 2.0</a> build (or heck, who knows, 1.5 or 1.6). It'll apparently have a 3.7-inch WVGA display with 720p playback and, as we've mentioned before, an HDMI-out for some serious multimedia street cred. It's still unclear whether this is being thrown around internally as the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Titanium/">Titanium</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Zeppelin/">Zeppelin</a>, or something else entirely, but whatever -- Verizon, Sprint, bring it on over, alright?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/15/motorolas-shiny-xt800-shows-off-its-android/">Motorola's shiny XT800 shows off its Android</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 Dec 2009 09:09:00 EST. Even though Motorola's only officially announced a small handful of devices that run Android so far, this much is clear -- the company was dead serious about <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/01/11/motorola-laying-off-throngs-focusing-on-android-alone/">going all-in</a> on the platform because we're seeing new leaked hardware practically every time we look. This time around, it's a clearer view of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Zeppelin/">Zeppelin</a>, which turns out to be coming to market on China Telecom as the XT800. It looks like it could be a sharp-looking handset, borrowing design elements of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/InstinctHD/">Instinct HD</a> and featuring both GSM and CDMA radios for compliance with Telecom's up-and-coming 3G network. What makes this juicier, though, is the fact that <em>QQ.com</em> alternately identifies the Zeppelin as the Titanium, a device <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/12/11/motorola-titanium-what-is-it/">we'd just seen in the FCC</a> with EV-DO Rev. A last week. That leads us to believe we could see this bad boy on Sprint or Verizon in the near future -- and with an HDMI output in this thing, 2010 is shaping up to be a great year for high-end Android gear.<br />

We've seen plenty of carefully staged press shots of Bowers &amp; Wilkins' new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/14/bowers-and-wilkins-downsizes-with-zeppelin-mini-ipod-speaker/">Zeppelin mini iPod dock</a>, but we're guessing that anyone about to shell out $400 for one of these is going to want a considerably closer, more unvarnished look at it. Thankfully, the folks at <em>iLounge</em> have now stepped in and provided just that and, while the agree it's certainly not for everyone, they do seem to think that those with the money to spend won't be disappointed, noting that the Zeppelin mini is another great example of the "speaker as art." Hit up the link below for a closer look, including a comparison with B&amp;W's full size Zeppelin.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/08/bowers-and-wilkins-zeppelin-mini-ipod-dock-lands-for-a-hands-on/">Bowers &amp; Wilkins Zeppelin mini iPod dock lands for a hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 08 Nov 2009 10:01:00 EST. Last week's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/14/purported-motorola-roadmap-uncovers-sholes-tablet-motus-and-oth/">blurry little roadmap</a> from Motorola gave us our first glimpse of the codename Zeppelin, and now just a few days later the back half of the thing has floated its way into the hands of someone at <em>DIGI.QQ.com</em>. The Android-powered handset is said to sport a five megapixel camera with flash, WiFi, a 3.1-inch 480 x 320 screen, HDMI output, and, in a first for Android, dual SIM slots marked GSM and CDMA -- technically an R-UIM slot for CDMA, actually, which pretty much limits this thing to China. And indeed, rumor has it release will come behind the Great Wall sometime in the first quarter of next year, with worldwide shipments (of some other variant, we'd imagine) sometime later. Sure, that's a long time to wait if your contract expiration is nigh, but we hear that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/droid">Droid</a> thing is pretty neat.<br /><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/23/motorolas-zeppelin-spotted-found-to-contain-android-rather-tha/">Motorola's Zeppelin spotted, found to contain Android rather than hydrogen</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 23 Oct 2009 08:13:00 EST. Okay folks, this is the moment where hauling a spoonful of NaCl down the chute would be highly recommended. <em>DialAPhone</em> seems to have unearthed what looks like a Q4 2009 - Q1 2010 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/motorola/">Motorola</a> roadmap, and while the finds are certainly intriguing, we're still hesitant to believe this thing is legit. For starters, this is obviously a European plan, so what we're viewing here may never make the tedious journey across the pond anyway. Secondly, how many of you honestly believe Moto's cooking up a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Sholes/">Sholes</a> Tablet? Exactly. That said, we'd be the first to drool should that device (or the Motus and / or Zeppelin) launch early next year, and you can bet your bottom dollar that we'll be scraping the floor for details when CES kicks off in just a few months. <br /><br />[Thanks, dejan]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/motorola/" rel="tag">Motorola</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/android/" rel="tag">Android</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/14/purported-motorola-roadmap-uncovers-sholes-tablet-motus-and-oth/">Purported Motorola roadmap uncovers Sholes Tablet, Motus and other mythical mysteries</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 14 Oct 2009 11:48:00 EST. Bowers &amp; Wilkins has <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/06/09/bowers-and-wilkins-intro-signature-diamond-loudspeakers/">never</a> <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/01/16/bowers-and-wilkins-officially-unveils-2-200-panorama-soundbar/">been one</a> to play the <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/01/23/bowers-and-wilkins-reveals-xt-8-tower-3-500-per-pair/">bargain game</a>, and the $399.95 price tag on its new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/14/bowers-and-wilkins-downsizes-with-zeppelin-mini-ipod-speaker/">Zeppelin Mini</a> is evidence of that very fact. The somewhat <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/03/bowers-and-wilkins-cranks-out-ipod-lovin-zeppelin-speaker/">miniaturized</a> iPod sound system is up for pre-order as we speak on Amazon, and we've heard directly from the company that it'll be shipping out to US-based consumers in "early November." So, is a flashy design, a pair of 3-inch drivers, 3.5 millimeter auxiliary input jack, USB 2.0 port and a promise of a better tomorrow enough to pry those four Benjamins out of your hand?<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/12/bandws-400-zeppelin-mini-ipod-sound-system-up-for-pre-order-shi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>B&amp;W's $400 Zeppelin Mini iPod sound system up for pre-order, ships next month</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/12/bandws-400-zeppelin-mini-ipod-sound-system-up-for-pre-order-shi/">B&amp;W's $400 Zeppelin Mini iPod sound system up for pre-order, ships next month</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 12 Oct 2009 22:02:00 EST. It's been well over two years since high-end audio outfit Bowers &amp; Wilkins introduced the iPod-lovin' <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/03/bowers-and-wilkins-cranks-out-ipod-lovin-zeppelin-speaker/">Zeppelin</a>, and evidently it's time for a downsizing. Today, the good folks over at B&amp;W slung out the Zeppelin Mini, which promises the same dirigible-inspired sound but in a form factor that fits in a wider assortment of areas. To be honest, this version seems toned down quite a bit on the design side, with the key differentiating features being an updated docking arm and the addition of USB connectivity. Said socket enables direct PC / Mac streaming if your <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iPod/">iPod</a> gets lost, and it also enables your 'Pod to sync with your computer whilst playing back tunes. As for specs, you'll find a pair of 3-inch full-range drivers, 36 total watts of power, a 3.5 millimeter auxiliary jack and a bundled remote. It's expected to hit next month for &pound;299 ($495), but you can get acquainted right now by jumping past the break and mashing play.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.macworld.co.uk/ipod-itunes/news/index.cfm?RSS&amp;NewsID=27167">Macworld</a>]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bowers-and-wilkins-downsizes-with-zeppelin-mini-ipod-speaker/">Bowers &amp; Wilkins downsizes with Zeppelin Mini iPod speaker</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bowers-and-wilkins-downsizes-with-zeppelin-mini-ipod-speaker/#2281565"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/b_and_w-zeppelin-mini_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bowers-and-wilkins-downsizes-with-zeppelin-mini-ipod-speaker/#2281564"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/b_and_w-zeppelin-mini_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bowers-and-wilkins-downsizes-with-zeppelin-mini-ipod-speaker/#2281563"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/b_and_w-zeppelin-mini_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bowers-and-wilkins-downsizes-with-zeppelin-mini-ipod-speaker/#2281562"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/b_and_w-zeppelin-mini_9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bowers-and-wilkins-downsizes-with-zeppelin-mini-ipod-speaker/#2281561"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/b_and_w-zeppelin-mini_8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/14/bowers-and-wilkins-downsizes-with-zeppelin-mini-ipod-speaker/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Bowers &amp; Wilkins downsizes with Zeppelin Mini iPod speaker</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/other-hardware/" rel="tag">Other hardware</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/speakers/" rel="tag">Speakers</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/apple/" rel="tag">Apple</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/14/bowers-and-wilkins-downsizes-with-zeppelin-mini-ipod-speaker/">Bowers &amp; Wilkins downsizes with Zeppelin Mini iPod speaker</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 14 Sep 2009 15:23:00 EST. We're not certain why Palm CFO Andy Brown was being so cagey about the company's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/11/palms-new-os-codenamed-nova/">next-gen</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/14/first-palm-os-ii-devices-to-hit-early-2009-is-it-already-too-la/" target="_blank">Linux-based platform</a> during a "fireside chat" at a recent JPMorgan tech conference, but his devotion to secrecy is almost as interesting as if he had dished out some details on upcoming devices. Wait, no, it's not. Of course, Palm's new OS is being developed by Jon Rubenstein, former Apple hardware and iPod veep, so maybe the paranoia is contagious -- but Brown probably didn't convince anyone when he openly compared Palm to Apple because both companies make both the hardware and the software. That's a pretty hard head-to-head to be in when you're talking about the Centro running Garnet -- maybe some actual products might help that pill go down easier, you know? Brown did say that we'd been seeing the fruits of all this labor sometime "this summer," but didn't mention what it might actually be -- let's hope it's got more design behind it than that nasty <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/07/palm-gets-real-on-the-zeppelin-adds-mystery-device-named-skywri/">Zeppelin prototype</a>.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/linux/" rel="tag">Linux</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm-os/" rel="tag">Palm OS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/20/palm-cfo-keeps-cards-products-anything-interesting-close-to-th/">Palm CFO keeps cards, products, anything interesting close to the vest</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 20 May 2008 06:01:00 EST. This little bundle of plain-vanilla familiarity is seemingly the first live picture of Palm's upcoming Treo <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/800w/">800w</a> for CDMA networks, known internally as the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/Zeppelin/">Zeppelin</a> -- you know, the obsolete airships that had a tendency to spontaneously combust. Specs on this one are starting to shore up, with Windows Mobile 6.1, EV-DO Rev. This little bundle of plain-vanilla familiarity is seemingly the first live picture of Palm's upcoming Treo <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/800w/">800w</a> for CDMA networks, known internally as the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Zeppelin/">Zeppelin</a> -- you know, the obsolete airships that had a tendency to spontaneously combust. Specs on this one are starting to shore up, with Windows Mobile 6.1, EV-DO Rev. The hot word on the street is that Palm has all but confirmed the existence of two new phone models by ramping up a "launch developer" program for new applications. The devices, dubbed Zeppelin (a name <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/12/17/more-details-on-the-palm-treo-800w-uncovered/">we've heard</a> quite a bit of) and Skywriter (which is new to us) could be slated for a Q3 release, as Palm is asking devs to turn in their applications by May 30th. Rumor has it that at least one of the units is a "Centro-like" Windows Mobile phone -- if that date is close to correct, it could very well be the "Wanda" that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/05/palm-wanda-is-the-treo-500v-successor/">we saw</a> back in January. The Zeppelin, on the other hand, is likely the WiFi equipped <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Treo800w/">Treo 800w</a> we've been hearing about for what seems like a million years. A mockup of a device (above) was included in the email, though we're pretty sure not even Palm could create a phone that ugly.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/07/palm-gets-real-on-the-zeppelin-adds-mystery-device-named-skywri/">Palm gets real on the Zeppelin, adds mystery device named Skywriter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 07 May 2008 11:06:00 EST. It being August and all, we can't help but notice the keen similarities between B&amp;W's Zeppelin <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=iPod%20speaker">iPod speaker</a> and an old fashioned pigskin, but this <em>two-foot long</em> behemoth most certainly wouldn't do well traversing through the air. Joining the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/04/13/sierra-sounds-in-studio-5-0-ipod-friendly-monitors/">growing</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2005/05/25/ipodlounge-reviews-klipschs-ifi-ipod-speaker-system/">array</a> of high-end iPod speaker station <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2005/09/12/klipsch-unleashes-the-ijam-yet-another-ipod-boombox/comments/741248/">manufacturers</a> is <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/06/09/bowers-and-wilkins-intro-signature-diamond-loudspeakers/">Bowers &amp; Wilkins</a>, whose interestingly shaped device screams sexy from end to end. Internally, it boasts a five-inch woofer, glass-fiber cones, tweeters, a 100-watt amplifier, and video out for piping images to your display. Regrettably, we've no idea when exactly this thing will be available for purchase, but considering that it'll set you back $599, we'd probably want a listen anyway before parting ways with that much dough.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://techdigest.tv/2007/08/bowers_wilkins_4.html">TechDigest</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/03/bowers-and-wilkins-cranks-out-ipod-lovin-zeppelin-speaker/">Bowers &amp; Wilkins cranks out iPod-lovin' Zeppelin speaker</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 03 Aug 2007 01:08:00 EST.
