Seems like everyone has to get in on the Elite bundle action these days. Game Watch reports that a new Xbox 360 Elite bundle is headed to Japan, with both Lost Planet: Colonies and Ace Combat 6 baked right in. it also comes packed with the normal Elite goodies -- headset, wireless controller and (incredibly flexible) composite cables. Unfortunately, the bundle fails to meet super Elite status, as it contains only a paltry 120GB hard drive. Still, at ¥29,980 (~$330), it's not a bad deal. The bundle goes on sale in Japan starting October 29.

  • Ace Combat 6 DLC totals $120+ and growing

We've joked around about the amount of and how crazy expensive Ace Combat 6's downloadable content is, but never really pulled out our calculators to get the full picture. But the crew at 1UP did and their findings will make AC6 fanboys' jaws fall to the floor.Let's get to it. The grand total of all of AC6's DLC (including new jets, skins, new missions and multiplayer modes) equals an astonishing $121.83 or 9,750 Microsoft points. Add to that the cost of the game itself and you've got a $181 "complete" AC6 experience. Outrageous! After doing the math, 1UP was able to ask NAMCO about the numerous / crazy expensive DLC and were given the standard we "pay very close attention to user feedback and comments", blah, blah, blah marketing runaround. But most interesting is the fact that NAMCO refused to answer 1UP's questions about certain items' pricing, what was up with the Beautiful Katamari paid unlocks and how they'll treat Soul Calibur IV DLC. On second thought, maybe NAMCO has taken the crown from EA for being most evil DLC developer.

While Namco Bandai's big news yesterday came with weapons in hand, the company also let slip that its long-running arcade-style aerial combat series, Ace Combat, has surpassed more than 10 million units sold worldwide, with the franchise's fifth offspring, The Unsung War, contributing more than a million to that total in North America alone. The series first took to the skies in 1995 with Air Combat for the original PlayStation, and has since enjoyed the company of eight additional sequels and spin-offs on multiple platforms, from the PS2 and PSP, to even 2005's Ace Combat Advance for the GBA, with the visually stunning Ace Combat 6 for the Xbox 360 reminding us all that we feel the need ... the need for speed.

  • AC6 just can't get enough jet fighter DLC

You can't hate a developer for trying to consistently milk one of their successful titles for some quick cash. Oh wait, yes you can and in this case, we will. Namco is planning on releasing their second third fourth umteenth set of Ace Combat 6 downloadable content this Thursday, March 27th featuring six new jets ranging from free to 400 Microsoft points, a Co-op Battle Download #2 and an Ace of Aces Mission #2 pack. Those two packs are 300 points apiece. All calculated, if you wanted all the new AC6 DLC it'll set you back 2100 Microsoft points. Or you can save your cash and wait until next month, when (almost like clockwork) Namco will probably scam you out of your points with some more expensive DLC. Oh, and for the handful who are interested, tomorrow's DLC details are posted after the jump.

If all the (expensive) Ace Combat 6 downloadable content has kept you flying the Liberation skies then today you should notice a title update pop-up the next time you take off for the skies. The game enhancing (buzz words FTW!) update will make a few minor modifications to AC6's online play as well as a few HUD changes. All in all, it's a lovely title update that should make "pew, pew, pew"ing aircrafts even more enjoyable than it already is. And because we care, a complete list of title update changes can be viewed after the break.

Today, Namco announced another set of downloadable content for Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation and again, it's way overpriced. The new DLC will drop next Thursday, February 28th and include a free "F-117A Night Hawk – General Emblem". But that's the only free stuff you're getting. Other DLC includes four jets that range in prices between 200 and 400 Microsoft points apiece (crazy pricey) as well as four other pieces of DLC. There will be a new "Battle Royale" multiplayer map (100 MS points) as well as "Co-op Battle", "Siege Battle" and "Ace of Aces Mission" downloads each costing 300 MS points. AC6 is officially turning into one of the most expensive games on the 360 as we say boo to overpriced jet fighter DLC. BOO! BOO! BOO!

  • Rumor: Ace Combat 6 returns to PS3

It was a tad controversial when Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation was announced as an Xbox 360 exclusive. After all, Namco Bandai's Ace Combat series had cut its teeth on Sony's consoles for years. Now, however, the title might return to familiar territory, as UK-based PSM3 Magazine is reporting on the development of Ace Combat 6 on PS3. According to a brief blurb in the magazine, Ace Combat 6 is scheduled for release later this year, and will feature online co-op. The blurb also mentions that the title will include its own custom controller (clearly referring to the Ace-Edge flight sticks that were released alongside the 360 version). With no official word from Namco Bandai on the topic, we're hesitant to believe this one just yet, although breaking exclusivity agreements is certainly not unheard of in this industry. • Rumor: Ace Combat 6 landing on PS3 in 2008?

According to magazine PSM3, Ace Combat 6 is coming to PS3. Ace Combat, one of the most prestigious flight-sim franchises, had been a PlayStation mainstay for several years, but recently became a 360 "exclusive" in its 6th iteration. Was this a magazine slip-up? Or is a subtle confirmation of the game's existence? The rumor mill is buzzing: Ace Combat 6 on PS3 in 2008. This would make sense, as exclusivity deals tend to fade away after a year or two, and the series has always been a PlayStation title in years past. It's still just a rumor, so we'll keep our fingers crossed and let you know if we get any new information.[Via Digg]

In an effort to make a few quick bucks, team Namco has plans to release yet another set of semi-overpriced Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation DLC next week. Oh joy! The new DLC will land onto the XBLM tarmac on Thursday, January 31st and consist of four jets that cost 200 Microsoft points each (CFA-44 Nosferatu Prototype, Tornado GR4 Raging Shark, F-14D Super Tomcat Razgriz and Su-33 Flanker Yellow Squadron), one jet that costs a pain inducing 400 points (Su-47 Berkut The Idolmaster Miki-EX) and one that'll be gratis (Typhoon UPEO Emblem). And we have a sneaking suspicion that most AC6 gamers will be solely picking up the Typhoon UPEO Emblem ... just saying.

Dropping from the clear blue Winter skies to the XBLM this Wednesday, December 19th will be brand new Ace Combat 6 downloadable content featuring some classic jets and anime artwork. The DLC pack will come with six new jet fighters including favorites from older Ace Combat games like AC2's Mirage 2000-5, AC4's F-22A Raptor and the jolly good times A-10A Thunderbolt – Xmas. Pricing information isn't available just yet, but expect it to be in line with AC6's other downloadable gems. Oh, and also know that Namco is planning to release a new team battle map in the coming weeks, so keep your ears perked for that. So much AC6 DLC, watcha gonna do?[Thanks, DjDATZ]

According to the guys over at 1UP, Namco will be releasing new Ace Combat 6 downloadable content to the Marketplace this Wednesday. The DLC will be five separate fighter planes (Su-33 Flanker, F16C, Mirage 2000-5, A-10A and a A-18F) each costing an unannounced amount of Microsoft points with one being a free download. Though, we're not exactly sure which jet will be offered for free. But no matter, new fighter jets are inbound this Wednesday, so try and ration your weekly allotment of jet fuel and stock up on snack cakes.[Thanks, Jonah Falcon]

In celebration of the release of Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation on October 23rd NAMCO and the Global Gaming League have partnered up for a team tournament. Registration for the Military vs. Civilians Ace Combat 6 Team Tournament just kicked off where teams of military personnel will go against normal gaming civilians in AC6 action for a grand prize of $5,000 in cash. The tourney kicks off on November 5th, so if you're interested or know someone who would be, make the jump and learn about the rules and registration specifics. Best of luck!

Joystiq got a chance to try out Ace Combat 6 at E3 last week, and they came away impressed. Of particular note are the game's incredible graphics. According to Joystiq, the earth below is damned near photo-realistic. Even individual buildings are actually rendered. Furthermore, the gameplay proves to be intense, with midair skirmishes occurring all throughout the open skies. Ground and naval combat come into play as well, and players have some control over that as well, being able to command allies to target certain enemies. Yup, not much bad to say about Ace Combat 6 at all. Check out the game's jaw dropping graphics in the gallery below. Better yet, check out the demo on Xbox Live. %Gallery-5045%

If you're like one certain disgruntled Joystiq blogger who's kicking it east coast this week, you've felt a little jilted watching all the new games everyone will get to play at E3. But you know what? Let those snobs have their fun. We that remain are going to be having some exclusive sneak preview action of our own with the new demos of Ace Combat 6 and NCAA Football 2008 on Xbox Live. Sure, they may get to check out a few, well, hotter properties, but you know how journalists at E3 are ... it just kills them that the blogger they left behind has access to something that they don't. We bet those guys wish they brought their 360s now! ... Wait, really? Well, crap.

In the latest episode of GameSpot's On the Spot, In Joon Hwang, Product Marketing Manager for Namco Bandai, revealed that a demo for Ace Combat 6 should be available on Xbox Live Marketplace next week. Ace Combat 6 is the first in the flight combat series to appear on a non-Sony console and also the first new-gen entry in the series. Hwang notes that the game's support system has been revamped, and players will now be able give commands to naval, air, and ground combat units during play. Expect to hear more about Ace Combat 6 from E3 next week. [Thanks, Dark Mobius]

Today, NAMCO announced the release date for Xbox 360 (timed) exclusive Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation and that it'll be available in two flavors this Fall. The game will release October 23rd in the US and will be available in the typical standard edition as well as a limited edition which will be bundled with the arcade stick for $150. Ace Combat 6 promises intense multiplayer dog fights, impressive visuals, and enhanced AI that should make it a stand out in the flight genre. This will be another 360 game that we're adding to our already massive list of must play games of 2007.

A couple of new trailers landed on Xbox Live Marketplace this morning. First we have a trailer for Ace Combat 6, it's the same cheesy trailer we saw released before, with lots of American pride and important-sounding music (think Armageddon). Our favorite moment is when a woman's voice breaks through the chaos: "I don't know a whole lot about war, but there's something I need to tell you." Yes, the cheese-factor is strong with this one. The Bigs trailer, on the other hand, is straight up balls-to-bat action (still no demo, by the way). You've got big, beefy players, flaming baseballs, and home runs so powerful that they could bring down small aircraft. For those of you without access to your 360, we've embedded it at the top of the post. Enjoy.

Namco Bandai has announced that it will release a special bundle for its upcoming aeronautical adventure, Ace Combat 6. The bundle will include the game, a limited edition Xbox 360 faceplate and the sweet flight stick combo seen above. The stick is manufactured by HORI, makers of the ultra-hard-to-find Dead or Alive 4 arcade stick. But how much does it cost, you say? Not $89.95! No, not $79.95. Not even $69.95! That's right, the Ace Combat 6 bundle will retail for ... $150! The bundle is expected to arrive this holiday season. Any flight sim junkies out there willing to take the plunge? [Via Joystiq]

It's no Steel Battalion control console, but who are we to be picky? Namco Bandai announced today an Ace Combat 6 bundle that includes a flightstick dubbed Ace-Edge. The entire package, which also includes a custom Xbox 360 faceplate, will retail for $150. Flight enthusiasm may have the wallet for that, but we'll stick with a cheaper option like Tiltboard. Or more likely, we'll just play with our unmodded Xbox 360 controllers and be happy with that. Ace Combat 6 is coming exclusively to Xbox 360 this holiday season.

The first trailer for Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation has found its way onto the intertubes, courtesy of GameSpot. Much to our surprise, the game features jets and the piloting of said jets. The first in the Namco series to appear on a non-Sony platform, Ace Combat 6 looks to up the ante with an emotional plot line centered around terrorism and protecting the next generation (of people, not consoles) from harm. The trailer features lots of interaction between a mother and her little girl, jets, terrorists, and plenty of swelling music. Check it out and tell us what you think. [Thanks, Dark Mobius]
