Mmm, yes please. And a 1080p LED backlit display to devour movies on? Well, <em>of course</em>. Then keep looking, because the Acer Aspire V3 maxes out at just 1366 x 768 -- despite being equipped with a Blu-ray spinner and Dolby Theater v4, and also despite the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/25/asus-zenbook-refresh-1080p-ips-ivy-bridge/">eye-popping competition</a>. Then again, at 15.6-inches that resolution might not be a total deal-breaker, plus our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/06/acer-aspire-v3-hands-on/">hands-on taster</a> at CeBIT (before we even knew about the Ivy Bridge internals) wasn't totally unpleasant. The HD 4000 graphics should give you the odd gaming snack, even if not a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/23/nvidia-kepler-for-ivy-bridge-ultrabooks/">full meal</a>, while a 750GB HDD, up to 8GB RAM and a ton of I/O options take care of the back room. The V3 will hit Japanese shelves on April 29th for around $1,100 -- but watch out for a 17-incher too (which <em>will </em>do 1080p) plus cheaper Core i5 variants coming later.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/27/acer-aspire-v3-ivy-bridge/">Acer Aspire V3 coming to Japan for $1,100 with right processor, wrong ppi</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 27 Apr 2012 17:33:00 EST. This time it's the Aspire V3 notebook, which comes in any one of three configurations, with 14, 15.6 and 17.3-inch screens in-tow. Each variation will be powered by an Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processor, with NVIDIA GeForce GT series graphics throwing up the visuals. As with the V5, specs are difficult to come by at this point, though Acer has confirmed that the 17.3-inch model will include a 1600 x 900 pixel display. There's Blu-ray, HDMI, Bluetooth 4.0 and USB 3.0 on board, as well as support for SSD and hard drive combos (17.3-inch model only). Aesthetically, it'll launch in three colors (black, gold and gray) when it eventually debuts in Q2 of this year. Pricing starts at &euro;400 (about $520) for the entry-level spec, rising to &euro;900 (roughly $1180) at the top end.<br /><br />Unlike the V5, we got to try out a fully-working model here at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CeBIT2012">CeBIT</a>. The V3 feels much larger and heftier when compared to its slimmer siblings, but the full-length speaker above the keyboard and generous LCD size tells you that Acer intended this model for a very different user. The finish may be plastic, but the gloss and matte combination looks nice enough. It feels relatively heavy in the hand, but it <em>is</em> carrying a reasonable amount of I/O baggage. Be sure to check out our video after the break for a more-detailed look.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-v3-hands-on/">Acer Aspire V3 hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-v3-hands-on/#4871917"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/acerv3014_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-v3-hands-on/#4871918"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/acerv3013_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-v3-hands-on/#4871920"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/acerv3012_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-v3-hands-on/#4871921"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/acerv3011_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-v3-hands-on/#4871923"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/acerv3010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/06/acer-aspire-v3-hands-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer Aspire V3 notebook hands-on (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/06/acer-aspire-v3-hands-on/">Acer Aspire V3 notebook hands-on (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 06 Mar 2012 08:13:00 EST. Yes, notebook. At 30 percent slimmer than the class it replaces, these are still trim machines. The 11.6-inch model is only 15mm thick, which is way into Ultrabook territory, while the 14- and 15-inch models land at 21 and sub-23mm respectively. It's Intel on the inside, including Core i3 and Core i5 processors, with NVIDIA GeForce GT series on-board to handle graphics. Release is penciled in for Q2, and pricing is expected to range from &euro;499 to &euro;699 (about $650 to $920). If you're in the market for something a bit less expensive but you're into the V5's design, you might take notice of the Aspire One netbook, which is set to use the same chassis but will ship with Intel Pentium and Celeron processors instead, with pricing estimated between &euro;399 and &euro;449 (about $525 to $590).<br /><br />We went hands-on with a dummy model of the V5 at CeBIT, though the prototype we saw today may not be the exact design you'll find in stores later this month. The 15.6-inch sample was very thin and relatively light, with a full-size chiclet keyboard and numberpad on the side. There's a USB 3.0 port on the left-hand side, along with two standard USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI connector and proprietary Ethernet port. There's also a pop-out optical drive on the right, though there's no SD slot in sight. Overall, it's a very nice design, but we'll need to wait for the company to demo functional versions before we can pass judgement on performance. As always, you'll find our video overview just past the break.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-v5-hands-on/">Acer Aspire V5 hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-v5-hands-on/#4871410"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/acerv5016_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-v5-hands-on/#4871412"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/acerv5015_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-v5-hands-on/#4871413"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/acerv5014_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-v5-hands-on/#4871414"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/acerv5013_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-v5-hands-on/#4871416"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/acerv5012_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/06/acer-ultrabook-v5-series-hands-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer launches Ultrabook-like Aspire V5 series, we go hands-on (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/06/acer-ultrabook-v5-series-hands-on/">Acer launches Ultrabook-like Aspire V5 series, we go hands-on (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 06 Mar 2012 06:58:00 EST. The company's press conference here at CES was packed to the gills with journalists and industry analysts, dozens of whom were jostling for some hands-on time after the event wrapped. It didn't help that there were two S5s on display, and that the demo area was tricked out with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/08/acer-s5-ultrabook-hands-on/">green mood lighting</a>.<br /><br />So when we had a chance to play with the S5 again, this time in a quiet, sunny room, we knew a second look was in order. For the most part, our early impressions haven't changed. Its all-metal chassis still feels solid, and we continue to be wary of that shallow keyboard. That 15mm-thick chassis is as impressive as ever -- maybe even more so, now that we know half of this year's Ultrabooks <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/intel-75-plus-ultrabooks-coming-in-2012-50-percent-of-them-wil/">are likely</a> to be larger. But man, is this thing even more beautiful in the light. We already concluded it had a more uniformly premium design than the older <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/14/acer-aspire-s3-ultrabook-review/">Aspire S3</a>, but in a brightly lit room it's easier to appreciate the slightly brushed texture on the lid and palm rest, the seamless, spartan design and how well that black paint job complements the thin chassis. Below, find a few extra hands-on shots added in with the old, and continue on past the break for a video tour, complete with a demo of that motorized drop-down port cover -- something we didn't get to show you the first time around.<br /><br /><em>Billy Steele contributed to this report.</em><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-s5-hands-on-0/">Acer Aspire S5 hands-on, revisited</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-s5-hands-on-0/#4746683"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc09545_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-s5-hands-on-0/#4746684"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc09546_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-s5-hands-on-0/#4746685"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc09547_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-s5-hands-on-0/#4746686"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc09548_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-s5-hands-on-0/#4746687"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc09549_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/12/acer-aspire-s5-hands-on-revisited-now-with-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer Aspire S5 hands-on, revisited (now with video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/12/acer-aspire-s5-hands-on-revisited-now-with-video/">Acer Aspire S5 hands-on, revisited (now with video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 12 Jan 2012 18:54:00 EST. Until now, Windows fans have had precious few alternatives to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/25/macbook-air-review-mid-2011/">MacBook Air.</a> Sure, there's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/28/samsung-series-9-900x-laptop-review/">Samsung's Series 9</a>, but just like the original Air, it's far from cheap. Since then, of course, Apple has cut the Air's starting price to $999, while the Windows options -- now marketed as <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Ultrabooks/">Ultrabooks</a> -- are about to mushroom in number. And so far, they're all starting in the (more reasonable) neighborhood of a thousand bucks, making these pinch-thin, long-lasting laptops accessible to the budget-conscious masses.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/10/acer-aspire-ultrabook-s3-hits-the-us-and-canada-this-week-start/">Acer's Aspire S3</a> was the first to hit the market here in the States, and with an entry price of $899, it's currently the least expensive. That it's skinny (just 13mm thick, to be exact), should be a given, but it also claims to wake from sleep in two seconds flat and reconnect to known networks in two and a half. But, as the least pricey Ultrabook on the shelf, it also forgoes some specs you might have liked to see -- namely, all-flash storage and USB 3.0. But does that matter much when you're potentially saving hundreds of dollars? Let's find out.<br />

And the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ultrabook/">Ultrabooks</a> have arrived! We just got word that the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/02/acer-aspire-ultrabook-s3-officially-announced-starts-at-799-eur/">Acer Aspire S3</a> will go on sale in the US and Canada this week for $899 -- making it the first pinch-thin, MacBook Air competitor to hit the market, landing ahead of competing models from Toshiba, Lenovo and ASUS. To recap, this 2.98-pound aluminum beaut has a 13.3-inch (1366 x 768) panel, is rated for six hours (or 50 standby days!) of battery life and promises to wake from sleep in a mere two seconds. For the money, you'll get an ultra low voltage Core i5 CPU, 4GB of RAM and 20GB of solid-state storage combined with a 320GB HDD. No word yet on how many additional configs will be available, though Acer <em>did</em> confirm that this $899 version will be followed by models with Core i3 and i7 processors and beefier storage capacity. Intrigued? Have a gander at our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/02/acer-aspire-ultrabook-s3-hands-on/">hands-on preview</a> if you missed it the first time around, and find some fancy press shots below.<br />

Acer's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/22/acer-aspire-one-522-with-amd-ontario-shows-up-on-amazon/">Aspire One 522</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/07/acer-aspire-one-722-caught-in-the-wild-video/">722</a> were among the first netbooks to pack AMD's Fusion Ontario APU, debuting with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/amd+c-50/">1GHz C-50 model</a> and its built-in Radeon HD 6250 graphics inside. However, Acer wanted to outfit both with some new silicon on the sly, and now each can be had with a 1GHz (with turbo boost up to 1.33GHz) C-60 APU packing upgraded Radeon 6290 graphics. The catch? Those <em>aspiring</em> for one with the upgraded internals must cross the pond to grand Europa, as the powered-up pair isn't available in the US. What gives, Acer?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/28/acer-aspire-one-522-and-722-hit-the-gym-with-faster-processors-a/">Acer Aspire One 522 and 722 hit the gym with faster processors and beefier graphics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 28 Sep 2011 00:08:00 EST. If you haven't heard, Acer's gone and (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/31/acers-ultrabook-s3-up-for-pre-order-on-italian-site-is-this-th/">officially</a>) jumped on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Ultrabook/">Ultrabook</a> bandwagon, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/02/acer-aspire-ultrabook-s3-officially-announced-starts-at-799-eur/">announcing</a> the 13mm-thin Aspire S3. We're here live at IFA in Berlin and just got some much-anticipated hands-on time. At the press conference that just wrapped, we were treated to a raft of promises -- seven-hour battery life, 1.5 seconds to resume from sleep, two to connect to a wireless network and "no compromise" performance courtesy of ultra low voltage Core i3, i5 and i7 processors. So did our first impression come anywhere near matching the hype? Read on to find out.<br />

We caught a sneak peek of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/28/acer-aspire-3951-photos-leaked-new-ultrabooks-to-launch-in-sept/">Acer's Aspire 3951</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ultrabook/">Ultrabook</a> in the wild a few days ago, and now we have some unofficial specs and pricing to complement the svelte laptop. A report over on <em>Notebook Italia</em> points to an Italian retailer's live pre-order page for an Ultrabook S3 -- naming that matches the Aspire S branding on the company's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/IFA/">IFA</a> booth. The notebook, listed as retailing for around 786 euros (or $1,133), is purported to include a Core i5 processor, 4GB RAM, 320GB of storage and an additional 20GB SSD. Much has been made of ASUS' and Intel's desire to hit the Ultrabook market at a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/06/asus-ux21-to-be-priced-at-less-than-1-000-says-chinese-newspap/">sub-$1000 price point</a> and, currency conversion aside, it's looking like Acer could also hit that target for its planned <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/09/acers-aspire-3951-leaks-with-macbook-air-like-specs-available/">13.3- and 11-inch ultraportables</a>. With the Taiwanese electronics maker's official IFA presentation just two days away, expect to get the full skinny on these anorexic notebook entries.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/31/acers-ultrabook-s3-up-for-pre-order-on-italian-site-is-this-th/">Acer's Ultrabook S3 up for pre-order on Italian site, is this the Aspire 3951?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 31 Aug 2011 13:21:00 EST. We don't mind eyeballing a few impossibly clean <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/09/acers-aspire-3951-leaks-with-macbook-air-like-specs-available/">renders</a> when we get wind of a new toy, but there's nothing like the real McCoy. Today's bones slipped out of a (now pulled) <em>HDblog</em> hands-on of the Acer Aspire 3951 Ultrabook, possibly leaked ahead of an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/IFA2011/">IFA 2011</a> embargo. The genuine article looks nearly identical to its rendered counterpart, albeit a bit thicker and more plasticky. The unveiled 13.3-inch <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MacBookAir/">MacBook Air</a> competitor reportedly sports a second generation Intel Core processor, boots from sleep in under two seconds, and is only 13mm thick. The price? While there is no official word on this <em>exact</em> model, Acer head-honcho JT Wang mentioned last week that the outfit was prepping to launch a new Ultrabook in September for about $800. Lines up nicely with the Acer 3951's rumored $770-960 price range, doesn't it?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/28/acer-aspire-3951-photos-leaked-new-ultrabooks-to-launch-in-sept/">Acer Aspire 3951 photos leaked, new Ultrabooks to launch in September</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 28 Aug 2011 19:13:00 EST. It looks like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/acer/">Acer</a> may be dropping down to the lightweight laptop division, now that images of its so-called Aspire 3951 have leaked out of Vietnam. An ostensible rival to the recently refreshed <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/25/macbook-air-review-mid-2011/">MacBook Air</a>, the 13.3-inch 3951 reportedly boasts a similarly slim design, measuring 13mm thick and weighing less than 1.4 kilograms (about three pounds). According to <em>Sohoa</em>, the aluminum-cased device is powered by a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/03/intels-2nd-generation-core-processor-family-announced-includes/">second generation</a> Intel Core processor, features an optional 160GB SSD, and offers more than six hours of battery life, along with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/07/bluetooth-4-0-specification-gets-official-devices-expected-by-q/">Bluetooth 4.0</a> support. Much like the Air, this Aspire can purportedly boot up pretty fast, as well, rousing from sleep mode in just 1.7 seconds. It's rumored that Acer will release this new line in October within the curiously affordable price range between $770 and $960, but we'll have to wait and see whether that actually comes to fruition. In the meantime, you can check out an extra image of the Aspire 3951 below, or hit the source link for the full collection.</div>

<strong>Update: </strong>Oddly enough, it appears that we've caught a glimpse of this exact same laptop before, except it was portrayed by <a href="http://micgadget.com/13856/is-this-the-new-macbook-air/">M.I.C. Perhaps the folks received some bad intel, be it intentional or not.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/09/acers-aspire-3951-leaks-with-macbook-air-like-specs-available/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer's Aspire 3951 leaks with MacBook Air-like specs, available in October?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/09/acers-aspire-3951-leaks-with-macbook-air-like-specs-available/">Acer's Aspire 3951 leaks with MacBook Air-like specs, available in October?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 09 Aug 2011 07:29:00 EST. It's been a long and twisted road for Acer's 7-inch Honeycomb tablet, but after all the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/04/acers-7-inch-iconia-tab-a100-priced-at-300-in-uk-launching-ap/">starts</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/17/acer-postpones-iconia-tab-a100-launch-to-second-half-of-the-year/">stops</a>, we've finally got an ETA for the Iconia Tab A100. According to an email sent out to Acer retail partners today, the slab should land in stores sometime in early August with a suggested price tag of $300. The Tegra 2-powered device was originally slated for a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/05/acers-3g-equipped-iconia-tab-a100-up-for-pre-order-on-amazon-uk/">mid-May launch</a>, but was <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/25/acer-iconia-tab-a100-delayed-due-to-honeycomb-compatibility-issu/">reportedly held up</a> by Honeycomb compatibility issues. Also arriving early August, is a pair of new Aspire notebooks: the 15.6-inch 5750Z and the 17.3-inch 7739Z, ringing in at $475 a piece. Both laptops rock 4GB of DDR3 RAM (upgradable to 8GB), 500GB of storage, and Intel Pentium processors. Given the extra three months Acer's had to get the Iconia Tab A100 to market, that Honeycomb better taste extra sweet when it finally makes its debut.<br />

Intent on buying a new Acer laptop but not satisfied with the just-announced <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/17/acer-travelmate-8481-lands-late-august-700-price-tag-in-tow/">TravelMate 8481</a> thin-and-light? Then perhaps you'll find the company's new and slightly larger Aspire 5755 model more to your taste. This one packs a 15.6-inch display with a rather lowly 1366 x 768 resolution, but it at least boasts some built-in <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/widi">WiDi</a> so you can easily view movies (or anything else) on a larger display without the need for any pesky cables. Otherwise, you'll get your choice of Intel Core processors (up to a Core i7-2820QM), up to 8GB of RAM and a maximum 1TB of storage, NVIDIA's Optimus-enabled GeForce GT 540M graphics, and either a Blu-ray or basic DVD drive -- all for a starting price of &pound;899 (or roughly $1,440). Still no word on a North American release, but this one's available in the UK right now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/18/acer-debuts-widi-equipped-aspire-5755-laptop/">Acer debuts WiDi-equipped Aspire 5755 laptop</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 18 Jul 2011 19:51:00 EST. It's been more than a year since Acer first <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/25/acer-launches-aspire-ethos-line-with-swanky-5943g-and-8943g-mode/">launched</a> its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/aspireethos">Aspire Ethos</a> line of laptops -- a family that got a bit bigger today, with the announcement of the 8951G and 5951G. These rambunctious little extroverts are powered by the latest generation of Intel's Core i processors, offering Turbo Boost speeds of up to 3.4GHz. Big bro 8951G boasts a 18.4-inch display that transmits images in Full HD, 1920 x 1080 resolution and 220-nit brightness, while spunky little 5951G struts around with a 15.6-inch HD 1366 x 768 screen of its own. They also support NVIDIA GeForce GT500 and DirectX 11 graphics and sport Dolby-approved surround sound, aluminum-magnesium alloy shells, glossy matte finishes and back-lit chiclet keyboards. Acer plans to unleash the pair sometime in mid-June, though they won't come for cheap, with prices starting at &pound;1,000 (about $1,643). Aspiring owners can find more information in the full PR, after the break.</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/07/acer-unveils-two-new-aspire-ethos-laptops-for-multimedia-enthusi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer unveils two new Aspire Ethos laptops for multimedia enthusiasts, street fighters</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/07/acer-unveils-two-new-aspire-ethos-laptops-for-multimedia-enthusi/">Acer unveils two new Aspire Ethos laptops for multimedia enthusiasts, street fighters</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 07 Jun 2011 21:42:00 EST. If Acer's current <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/09/acer-timelinex-4820t-review/">Aspire TimelineX</a> notebooks look a little too dull for your tastes, have a peek at that industrial-looking number in the picture above. The company just redesigned its line of skinny laptops, and refreshed them with Sandy Bridge processors while it was at it. The 13.1-inch 3830T, 14-inch 4830T, and 15.6-inch 5830T all have that two-tone aluminum design (also available in black), along with USB 3.0, a choice of Core i3 and Core i5 CPUs, and Acer's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/clearfi/">clear.fi</a> software for sharing media among DLNA devices. The 14- and 15.6-inch versions have onboard optical drives and number pads, and, on select models, you can choose a discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT520M or GT540M card. However, the screen resolution is going to be 1366 x 768 regardless of which you pick. The 3830T, 4830T, and 5830T are available now, starting at $799, $699, and $599, respectively, and you can find specs for a handful of models after the break.<br />

Sure, it may look just like any of Acer's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/06/acer-unveils-svelte-and-spiffy-aspire-z5761-all-in-one-on-sale/">other</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/27/acer-seduces-with-slim-trim-az3750-a34d-all-in-one-pc/">all-in-one</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/28/acer-unveils-amd-infused-aspire-z3100-aio-revo-3700-nettop-now/">desktops</a>, but this one's got a few tricks up its sleeves -- the Acer Aspire Z5763 spits out stereoscopic 3D images to a set of NVIDIA 3D Vision specs, and uses its 2 megapixel webcam for a Kinect-like gesture recognition system that Acer's calling "AirControl." As you'll probably know if you've recently spent any time considering a 3D-ready computer, that means it's got a 23-inch, 120Hz LCD screen that displays content at 1080p, and here you'll find it accompanied by Intel's latest Sandy Bridge processors, NVIDIA GeForce GT 440 or 435M graphics, a Blu-ray drive, up to 2TB of storage and 16GB of DDR3 memory, as well as built-in stereo speakers with several flavors of virtual surround sound, an optional TV tuner and loads of connectivity. What you won't find is any pricing or availability for the USA, but if you're living in merry old England you can pick up the rig next month for &pound;999 (about $1,650).<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/acer-aspire-z5763-all-in-one-comes-with-3d-screen-promises-kine/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer Aspire Z5763 all-in-one comes with 3D screen, promises Kinect-like gesture control over movies</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/acer-aspire-z5763-all-in-one-comes-with-3d-screen-promises-kine/">Acer Aspire Z5763 all-in-one comes with 3D screen, promises Kinect-like gesture control over movies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 28 Apr 2011 06:04:00 EST. You know who may have been a bit inspired by NVIDIA CEO <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Jen-HsunHuang/">Jen-Hsun Huang</a>'s <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/25/caption-contest-nvidia-ceo-flaunts-tattoo-on-stage-still-servi/">GPU muscle</a>? Acer! Okay, that's not exactly what happened, but Acer <em>does</em> have quite a few new laptops that tap the graphics-chip<span style="font-style: italic;"> </span>maker's latest. First up are the 15.6-inch AS5742G and 17.3-inch AS7745, which still have the same design and Intel Core 2010 CPU options as the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/07/acer-rolls-out-new-budget-focused-core-i3-and-core-i5-aspire-lap/">previous models</a>, but now have the brand spankin' new GeForce <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/03/nvidia-gtx-470m-highlights-rollout-of-400m-mobile-gpu-series/">400M GPUs</a> along with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/topic/nividia-optimus">Optimus technology</a> for automatically switching between the integrated and discrete graphics options. Both will be available for less than $800, though there's no word on exact availability of the mainstream machines. Those a bit too 2D for ya? There's also the Core i5-powered, GeForce GT 420M-packing Aspire AS5745DG, which is one of the first machines to have NVIDIA's updated <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/10/nvidia-trots-out-geforce-400m-series-laptops-shows-off-starcraf/">3D Vision</a>. The IR receiver is integrated into the 120Hz LCD's bezel and it supports <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/20/a-first-hand-look-at-nvidia-3dtv-play-and-powerdvd-3d/">3DTV Play</a>, which lets you reap the laptop's 3D benefits on a larger 3DTV. For $1,000 (active shutter glasses included!) that's not a bad deal, but don't get too excited about ordering one today -- it'll hit e-tailers in late October. Oh, and there's one more! The 18.4-inch Aspire AS8943G has been updated with a Core i7 quad-core processor, 8GB of RAM and ATI's newest Mobility Radeon 5850 graphics for $1,499.99. That's a lot to digest, but hit the break for the press release if you're up for even more details on all the new rigs. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-as5745-as7745-as5742g/">Acer Aspire AS5745, AS7745, AS5742G</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-as5745-as7745-as5742g/#3404882"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/acer-aspire-5745dg-motorcyle-in-3d_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-as5745-as7745-as5742g/#3404883"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/aceras7745-1285593220_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-as5745-as7745-as5742g/#3404884"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/as5742halfback_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-as5745-as7745-as5742g/#3404885"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/as5742lft_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-as5745-as7745-as5742g/#3404886"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/as7745halfback_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/27/acer-aspire-as5745-and-as7745-pick-up-nvidia-optimus-graphics-a/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer Aspire AS5745 and AS7745 pick up NVIDIA Optimus, Aspire AS5742G nabs some 3D Vision</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/27/acer-aspire-as5745-and-as7745-pick-up-nvidia-optimus-graphics-a/">Acer Aspire AS5745 and AS7745 pick up NVIDIA Optimus, Aspire AS5742G nabs some 3D Vision</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 27 Sep 2010 00:01:00 EST. Looking for a netbook with a little more oomph, or perhaps a thin-and-light laptop that doesn't break the bank? We're not quite sure which category the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AcerAspire1551/">Acer Aspire 1551-5448</a> falls under, but we reckon it's liable to satisfy both camps with an 11.6-inch LED-backlit display and a 1.5GHz AMD Turion II Neo K625 CPU. Like the single-threaded <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/11/acer-aspire-one-521-spotted-in-france-handling-hd-video-eying-a/">Aspire 521 and 721</a> cousins we'll be reviewing later this week, this dual-core machine sports a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4225 GPU for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/26/amd-netbooks-acer-aspire-one-521-and-gateway-lt22-hands-on/">stutter-free 1080p playback</a>, and extra memory to boot. Here, Acer crammed 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 320GB hard drive, 802.11n WiFi, HDMI-out and a six-cell, five-hour battery into a package weighing just over three pounds. If you've got $550 to drop, there's an Aspire 1551 with your name on it, available now practically wherever laptops are sold.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/29/acer-aspire-1551-hits-retailers-with-1-5ghz-dual-core-turion-ii/">Acer Aspire 1551 hits retailers with 1.5GHz dual-core Turion II CPU</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 29 Jun 2010 02:02:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Sure, you can get an eye-catching <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/all-in-one">all-in-one desktop</a> or tower, or an especially <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/sff">small form factor PC</a> (or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/macmini">Mac</a>), but we're pretty sure there's plenty of folks just looking for a simple black box. Of course, there's not exactly any shortage of those, but Acer has now added a few more options with its new Aspire X3 and M3 series desktops, which it says are designed to be "efficient in form and function." That means each are small, but not too small, and pack the mid-range specs you'd expect, including your choice of AMD or Intel processors (Athlon II, Phenom II, Core i3 or Pentium E6600), ATI HD 5450, NVIDIA GeForce 9200 or integrated Intel graphics, up to 1TB of storage on the X3 or 640GB on the M3 and, last but not least, an illuminated blue power button that ensures the desktop "can be found even in a dark cabinet." Head on past the break for the complete press release, and look for the systems to be available at all the usual retailers immediately with a starting price of $449.99.</div>

</span></span>Hoping to get your hot little hands on those brushed metal keys and gorgeous LED touchpad? You're in luck, as the 18.4-inch <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/04/acer-aspire-8943g-and-5943g-aka-acer-ethos-preview/">Acer Aspire 8943G</a> (aka <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/25/acer-launches-aspire-ethos-line-with-swanky-5943g-and-8943g-mode/">Ethos</a>) has finally arrived stateside. $1,549 buys you a 1.6GHz Core i7-720QM and 4GB of RAM, plus a 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 and Blu-ray drive to power that 1080p LED-backlit screen. <br />
<br />
If you'd rather not lug around a 10.1 pound desktop replacement, though, or if the 8943G's a little too rich for your blood, Acer's got some other machines that might better match your style. The Acer Aspire AS7745 and AS5745 -- incremental updates to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/07/acer-rolls-out-new-budget-focused-core-i3-and-core-i5-aspire-lap/">these puppies</a> -- bring home Core i5 and Core i7 processors, with the $1,399 17.3-inch AS7745G boasting Radeon HD 5650 graphics and Blu-ray while the $899 AS5745PG comes with a 15.6-inch multitouch screen. There's even a budget lineup starting at $429 next month if you're looking for a netbook alternative. No matter which you choose, you'll find details in the press releases after the break... but since you know you really want that 8943G (see the gallery below) you might as well hit Amazon at our more coverage link. If you've suddenly found yourself torn between a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/tablet/">tablet</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/netbook/">netbook</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Acer/">Acer</a> wants you to know you're not alone. It also wants you to know there are options, one of which would benefit said company's bottom line should you choose to accept. The new Aspire Timeline 1825PT is an 11.6-inch netvertible at heart, boasting a swivel-screen multitouch panel (1,366 x 768 resolution), up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, a 1.3GHz Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor, integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics, HDMI / VGA outputs, a 250GB or 320GB hard drive, integrated media card slot, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, a VGA webcam, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, gigabit Ethernet and a 6-cell battery that can reportedly last up to eight solid hours under ideal conditions (read: no chance). There's even a multitouch trackpad and gobs of bloatware to really cap things off, with color options including diamond black, sapphire blue and ruby red -- all of which sound seductively awesome. A 64-bit copy of Windows 7 Home Premium gets you going, but it'll take at least &pound;599.99 ($886) to get one headed your way.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/20/acer-launches-11-6-inch-aspire-timeline-1825pt-netvertible/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer launches 11.6-inch Aspire Timeline 1825PT netvertible</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/20/acer-launches-11-6-inch-aspire-timeline-1825pt-netvertible/">Acer launches 11.6-inch Aspire Timeline 1825PT netvertible</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 20 May 2010 01:59:00 EST. As with most <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/12/motorola-milestone-with-android-2-1-hitting-bulgaria-by-march-20/">good things</a>, this comes from Bulgaria. <em>Laptop.bg</em> have finagled themselves a prototype unit of Acer's forthcoming <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/04/acer-aspire-5551g-5553g-and-7551g-keep-the-phenom-ii-x3-and-x4/">Aspire 5553G</a> and taken it on a benchmarking adventure to see what it's made of. Their first impressions relate to the case, which comes in a familiar <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/22/acer-busts-out-travelmate-timeline-laptops-for-the-business-type/">Timeline</a>-inspired design, including a fingerprint-loving glossy lid and Acer's particular take on the island keyboard, but they quickly move on to analyzing the quad-core <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/04/dell-inspiron-m501r-seen-packing-quad-core-amd-phenom-ii-x4-cpu/">Phenom II N930</a> heart beating within. Sadly, this particular unit was held back in gaming by its anemic Mobility Radeon HD 4250 GPU, but the news wasn't all that flattering in CPU-isolating comparisons either. Cinebench 10 found the N930 outperforming Intel's <span style="font-style: italic;">previous </span><em>generation</em> chips in multicore workloads, but falling behind on single-threaded tasks. AMD seems intent on pricing its latest Phenoms aggressively, and if you're not too hung up on getting great battery life these will look appealing, but we can't help feeling disappointed that Intel's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/core+i7">Core i7s</a> aren't being given more to worry about. Hit the source for the full review.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/10/acer-aspire-5553g-showcases-amds-quad-core-phenom-ii-n930-in-ea/">Acer Aspire 5553G showcases AMD's quad-core Phenom II N930 in early review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 10 May 2010 07:36:00 EST. Ah, <i>now</i> we get it. Clearly <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AMD/">AMD</a> has a few mobile chips in the backroom that it has yet to inform us about, and unfortunately for the fine folks in Sunnyvale, it seems as if their partner firms aren't being quite so hush-hush. Just hours after discovering a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/04/dell-inspiron-m501r-seen-packing-quad-core-amd-phenom-ii-x4-cpu/">quad-core Phenom II X4</a> within Dell's new Inspiron M501R, along comes a spate of Acer Aspire machines with -- you guessed it -- Phenom II X4 and X3 chips within. The 15.6-inch 5551G / 5553G and 17.3-inch 7551G are all listed now at Amazon's German portal, with the X3 N830 clocked at 2.1GHz and the X4 N930 chip humming along at an even 2GHz. The cheapest of the bunch is listed at right around &euro;668 ($870), though you'll have to dig into that source link for specifics. Fret not -- we get the impression that each of these will be headed stateside just as soon as AMD sees fit to officially unveil its not-so-secret stash of new silicon. <br />

Another tablet has entered the fray, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/aceraspire">Acer Aspire</a> 1825PTZ convertible -- a little sub-notebook that sits just above a netbook in terms of specs, but isn't much larger than your average <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/eee">Eee</a>. <em>NewGadgets.de</em> has managed to get its hands on one and was kind enough to hit the record button for that special moment of unboxing, sharing the joy as this 11.6-inch capacitive touchscreen'd model entered the world. Inside, the machine sports a 1.3GHz SU4100 Pentium processor, 4GB of RAM, a 320GB disk drive, 802.11b/g/n wireless along with Bluetooth, and a six-cell battery. Sadly the video after the break doesn't actually entail turning the thing on, but hopefully that'll be part of a big-budget sequel. We hear Michael Bay has signed on to direct.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/21/acer-aspire-1825ptz-convertible-tablet-unboxed-for-your-pleasure/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer Aspire 1825PTZ convertible tablet unboxed for your pleasure (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/21/acer-aspire-1825ptz-convertible-tablet-unboxed-for-your-pleasure/">Acer Aspire 1825PTZ convertible tablet unboxed for your pleasure (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 21 Apr 2010 09:12:00 EST. While the US was busy delivering a certain tablet product yesterday, British sci-fi fans sat comfortably at home for a brand new <em>Doctor Who</em> series. We won't go into too much detail here, but the eleventh Doctor -- played by the charming Matt Smith -- was spotted writing a computer virus and sending pictures on a BBC-debranded <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/blackberry+storm">Blackberry Storm</a>, minutes before the aliens were to incinerate Planet Earth. Perhaps the freshly-regenerated Time Lord's a fan of the virtual keyboard? As a bonus, the Doctor also borrowed a disguised 15-inch <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/acer+aspire%2Claptop">Acer Aspire laptop</a> for some virtual face time with chief brainiacs around the world, and then promptly reminded the owner to "delete your internet history" in reference to, well, something more disturbing that he found on the computer. And who are we to question the orders of a time traveler?<br />
<br />
<strong>Update: </strong>Turns out the new Lead Writer Steven Moffat learned of his job offer <a href="http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/cult/a98227/moffat-offered-doctor-who-job-by-email.html">on a Blackberry</a> back in June 2008. Too bad the Storm wasn't due out for another five months, but a quick trip through the time vortex could turn this into an amusing coincidence.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sceen-grab-blackberry-storm-saves-the-world-in-new-doctor-who/">Screen Grabs: Blackberry Storm saves the world in new Doctor Who</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sceen-grab-blackberry-storm-saves-the-world-in-new-doctor-who/#2861681"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/04/bbstormdw104032010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sceen-grab-blackberry-storm-saves-the-world-in-new-doctor-who/#2861686"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/04/bbstormdw604032010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sceen-grab-blackberry-storm-saves-the-world-in-new-doctor-who/#2861684"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/04/bbstormdw404032010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sceen-grab-blackberry-storm-saves-the-world-in-new-doctor-who/#2861689"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/04/bbstormdw904032010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sceen-grab-blackberry-storm-saves-the-world-in-new-doctor-who/#2861690"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/04/bbstormdw1004032010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/04/screen-grabs-blackberry-storm-saves-the-world-in-new-doctor-wh/">Screen Grabs: Blackberry Storm saves the world in new Doctor Who</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 04 Apr 2010 16:17:00 EST. Oh, what a gloomy morning it's been in London, but that didn't stop <em>Electricpig</em> from attending Acer's UK launch event for its voguish <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/25/acer-launches-aspire-ethos-line-with-swanky-5943g-and-8943g-mode/">Aspire Ethos</a> and power-sipping <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/17/acer-unveils-its-thin-and-light-aspire-timelinex-1830t/">TimelineX</a> laptops. The Ethos 8943G, pictured above, is described as a more affordable alternative (at "half the price") to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/nx90">ASUS NX90</a>, packing a touchscreen-like trackpad for media control, a sturdy chiclet keyboard and an 18.4-inch full HD screen with decent viewing angle. As for the TimelineX trio, <em>Electricpig</em> praises the brushed aluminum lids and the grip on the closed 13.3-inch model, but the meat lies in the 12-hour battery life -- this is the same as the previous line-up, even though WiFi usage is included and the CPUs are now more powerful. If you fancy something more portable, word has it that the 11.6-inch TimelineX <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/17/acer-unveils-its-thin-and-light-aspire-timelinex-1830t/">1830T</a> -- a no-show today -- will be out towards the end of June, otherwise the TimelineX trio can be yours from &pound;599.99 ($909) in May, and the Ethos for &pound;1,099.99 ($1,666) in June. Until then, gorge yourselves on the photos at the source links.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/31/acer-aspire-ethos-8943g-and-timelinex-3820t-4820t-5820t-get-ha/">Acer Aspire Ethos 8943G and TimelineX 3820T, 4820T, 5820T get hands-on treatment</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 31 Mar 2010 21:15:00 EST. Acer's aspirational laptops have a new Ethos to them now, and it clearly has something to do with entertainment. The newly revealed 18.4-inch 8943G sports a 1920 x 1080 resolution and a <em>true</em> 5.1 surround sound setup, meaning that somewhere within its shell reside five miniature speakers and a sub. Processor options range all the way up to the quad-core <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/21/intel-cores-1-73ghz-i7-820-qm-mobile-cpu-maneuvers-onto-test-be/">Core i7-820QM</a>, which offers 8MB of built-in cache and a 1.73GHz clock speed that cranks all the way to 3.06GHz when required. ATI Mobility Radeon <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/30/ati-radeon-hd-5850-provides-scorching-performance-for-a-relative/">HD 5850</a> graphics and up to 1.28TB of storage (2x 640GB) complete the overkill recipe. The 5943G is basically a scaled down version, offering as it does 1366 x 768 resolution across a 15.6-inch display, a 2.1 internal speaker arrangement, and a merely adequate 640GB storage maximum. The rest of the specs are shared, including a 4,800mAh battery, which should perish quicker than you can say "desktop replacement." Pricing and availability have not yet been announced.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-ethos/">Acer Aspire Ethos</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-ethos/#2832307"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/25mar10acer3543nnv_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-ethos/#2832310"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/25mar10acer34699_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-ethos/#2832311"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/25mar10acer3243422_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-ethos/#2832312"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/25mar10acerwergrgk9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/25/acer-launches-aspire-ethos-line-with-swanky-5943g-and-8943g-mode/">Acer launches Aspire Ethos line with swanky 5943G and 8943G models</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 25 Mar 2010 05:51:00 EST. We've heard <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/12/acer-developing-ace-in-the-hole-ultrathin-putting-macbook-air/">plenty</a> of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/26/acer-launching-thin-calpella-based-notebooks-this-summer/">chatter</a> about something thin and sexy being added to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/acer">Acer</a>'s laptop lineup, and finally the company has unveiled the Aspire TimelineX 1830T. It's under an inch thick and weighs 3lbs, with an 11.6-inch screen offering 1366 x 768 pixels and driven by integrated graphics. Acer simply lists an Intel Core 2 Solo processor, but others are reporting that it will feature a Core i5 520UM processor which can range from 1 to 1.8GHz to offer decent performance along with great battery life -- eight hours worth according to Acer, but we'll believe that when we see it. Wireless is over 801.11a/b/g/n WiFi, there's a VGA webcam in the bezel, three USB ports, and even HDMI output, making it a relatively port-heavy ultralight. What Acer is not saying is how much it will cost or when we'll be able to get our meaty paws on the thing, but we hope to learn those details soon.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update</strong>: Acer sneaked in a bunch of other TimelineX models as well: the 13.3-inch <a href="http://us.acer.com/acer/product.do;jsessionid=6D434377632E3252269BE93E43309E2A.public_a_us004?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&amp;rcond5e.c2att92=145&amp;inu49e.current.c2att92=145&amp;link=ln314e&amp;CountryISOCtxParam=US&amp;kcond47e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond159e.att21k=1&amp;kcond48e.c2att101=77439&amp;rcond190e.att21k=1&amp;acond23=EU&amp;rcond4e.att21k=1&amp;sp=page17e&amp;rcond157e.c2att92=145&amp;var9e=793&amp;ctx1g.c2att92=145&amp;rcond42e.att21k=1&amp;kcond50e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond45e.att21k=1&amp;rcond158e.c2att1=0&amp;ctx2.c2att1=0&amp;inu53e.current.c2att92=145&amp;rcond38e.c2att1=0&amp;var13e=EU&amp;rcond44e.c2att1=0&amp;rcond186e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond3e.c2att1=0&amp;rcond28e.attN2B2F2EEF=3206&amp;rcond189e.c2att1=0&amp;ctx1.att21k=1&amp;CRC=1927526107#wrAjaxHistory=0">3820T</a>, 14-inch <a href="http://us.acer.com/acer/product.do;jsessionid=6D434377632E3252269BE93E43309E2A.public_a_us004?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&amp;rcond5e.c2att92=145&amp;inu49e.current.c2att92=145&amp;link=ln314e&amp;CountryISOCtxParam=US&amp;kcond47e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond159e.att21k=1&amp;kcond48e.c2att101=77439&amp;rcond190e.att21k=1&amp;acond23=EU&amp;rcond4e.att21k=1&amp;sp=page17e&amp;rcond157e.c2att92=145&amp;var9e=793&amp;ctx1g.c2att92=145&amp;rcond42e.att21k=1&amp;kcond50e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond45e.att21k=1&amp;rcond158e.c2att1=0&amp;ctx2.c2att1=0&amp;inu53e.current.c2att92=145&amp;rcond38e.c2att1=0&amp;var13e=EU&amp;rcond44e.c2att1=0&amp;rcond186e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond3e.c2att1=0&amp;rcond28e.attN2B2F2EEF=3206&amp;rcond189e.c2att1=0&amp;ctx1.att21k=1&amp;CRC=1927526107#wrAjaxHistory=2">4820T</a>, and 15.6-inch <a href="http://us.acer.com/acer/product.do;jsessionid=6D434377632E3252269BE93E43309E2A.public_a_us004?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&amp;rcond5e.c2att92=145&amp;inu49e.current.c2att92=145&amp;link=ln314e&amp;CountryISOCtxParam=US&amp;kcond47e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond159e.att21k=1&amp;kcond48e.c2att101=77439&amp;rcond190e.att21k=1&amp;acond23=EU&amp;rcond4e.att21k=1&amp;sp=page17e&amp;rcond157e.c2att92=145&amp;var9e=793&amp;ctx1g.c2att92=145&amp;rcond42e.att21k=1&amp;kcond50e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond45e.att21k=1&amp;rcond158e.c2att1=0&amp;ctx2.c2att1=0&amp;inu53e.current.c2att92=145&amp;rcond38e.c2att1=0&amp;var13e=EU&amp;rcond44e.c2att1=0&amp;rcond186e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond3e.c2att1=0&amp;rcond28e.attN2B2F2EEF=3206&amp;rcond189e.c2att1=0&amp;ctx1.att21k=1&amp;CRC=1927526107#wrAjaxHistory=0">5820T</a>, each with your choice of Core i3, i5, or i7 processors, all under an inch thick, and again offering eight hours of battery life for frugal computers. Craftily unhidden at the tail end of its press conference, Acer's long-awaited <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/acer,1820pt">Aspire 1820PT</a> convertible laptop has finally passed into our hands for ever the briefest of moments. Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Strong hinge, accelerometer for tablet mode, capacitive multitouch, <em>and</em> the ability to use stylus for input (protected in a slot just below and to the right of the screen when not in use). Beyond that, seems like the typical underpowered laptop you know and love -- well, maybe not love, but you get the idea. Under the hood there's an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 8GB RAM, and 320GB HDD, all priced at 599 euro, which we'd venture a guess to mean it'll be about $599 when it comes to the US (actual release date MIA). Gallery below, and brief video demonstration after the break. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on/">Acer Aspire 1820PT convertible hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on/#2763984"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/aspireone532g-hands-2010-03-0311-03-46-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on/#2763986"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/aspireone532g-hands-2010-03-0311-13-07-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on/#2763988"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/aspireone532g-hands-2010-03-0311-13-16-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on/#2763989"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/aspireone532g-hands-2010-03-0311-13-29-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on/#2763991"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/aspireone532g-hands-2010-03-0311-13-35-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/03/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on-priced-for-599-euros/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer Aspire 1820PT convertible hands-on, priced for 599 euros</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/03/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on-priced-for-599-euros/">Acer Aspire 1820PT convertible hands-on, priced for 599 euros</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 03 Mar 2010 11:46:00 EST. Now <em>that's</em> how to get our attention. While the English-speaking portion of the Acer press conference left much to be desired, the second half, decidedly more German in vernacular, had a couple great tidbits. Most notable is a price of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/02/nvidia-ion-2-now-official-acer-asus-and-lenovo-at-the-ready/">Acer's AspireOne 532G</a>, the ION 2-equipped netbook <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/15/acer-aspire-one-532g-first-to-feature-nvidia-ion-2-switchable-gr/">initially espied</a> at Mobile World Congress. The slide says it all, sort of: 379 euros -- mighty aggressive, and if history tells us anything, there's a good chance it'll be about $379 when it comes stateside, too. No word on release date as far as we can tell, but you'll definitely want to keep an eye out for this one.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/03/acer-aspire-one-532g-with-ion-2-priced-at-an-aggressive-379-euro/">Acer Aspire One 532G with ION 2 priced at an aggressive 379 euros</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 03 Mar 2010 10:19:00 EST. There's pretty much no way that Toshiba's patent claim with the US International Trade Commission will lead to a ban on Wistron imports -- the company builds laptops for Acer, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/18/hp-and-dell-working-on-3d-gaming-laptops/">Dell, HP</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/17/lenovo-thinkpad-w701-hints-at-core-i7-extreme-in-fcc-reveal/">Lenovo</a> and others, and will likely settle in cash long before any rulings against it -- but it's fun to imagine the mayhem that would result if such an eventuality were to materialize. A quick look at the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/14/acer-partially-fulfills-prophecy-overtakes-dell-as-number-two-p/">rankings of global computer vendors</a> shows that Toshiba is mostly trying to throw a banana skin in front of its direct competitors, claiming as it does that Wistron products infringe on its methodologies for touchpad production and file saving when the laptop loses power. The ITC, should it decide to investigate, will take up to 15 months on this matter, so no breath-holding is advised just yet, though if that settlement does eventuate it should be a pretty breathtaking number.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/25/toshiba-seeks-to-prevent-wistron-laptop-imports-to-the-us/">Toshiba seeks to prevent Wistron laptop imports to the US</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 25 Jan 2010 02:02:00 EST. We've already seen Acer issue a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/10/acer-issues-recall-for-some-aspire-timeline-laptops/">recall in Europe</a> way back in October, so honestly we're a bit disturbed it's taken the US Consumer Product Safety Commission this long to follow suit. Various 13.3-inch <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AspireOne/">Aspire One</a> models -- specifically AS3410, AS3410T, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ, and AS3810TZG -- could cause potential burns due to a faulty internal microphone wire under the palm rest. Got one of those versions? Give Acer a ring and see if you have an affected model that'll get fixed <em>gratis</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/09/acer-issues-us-recall-for-22-000-laptops-going-disco-inferno/">Acer issues US recall for 22,000 laptops going disco inferno</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 09 Jan 2010 12:14:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Those Intel <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/17/intel-core-i3-mobile-core-i5-processors-coming-january-7/">Core i3 and Core i5 mobile processors</a> we've been hearing about for quite awhile now are finally finding a home, and one of their first stops is Acer's Aspire lineup. Notoriously known as solid performing and affordable rigs, both the new 15.6-inch Aspire AS5740 and 17-inch Aspire AS7740 will start at under $800. Not too shabby considering the $750 AS7740 configuration includes a 2.14GHz Intel Core i3-330M CPU, 4GB of RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium and a Blu-ray drive. While the $750 AS5740 doesn't have Blu-ray, its got a 2.2GHz Intel Core i5-430M processor, 4GB of RAM, and discrete ATI graphics. Acer will offer lots of variations on the specs, but at the end of the day these guys are talking performance and a price we can get behind.</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/07/acer-rolls-out-new-budget-focused-core-i3-and-core-i5-aspire-lap/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer rolls out new budget-focused Core i3 and Core i5 Aspire laptops</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/07/acer-rolls-out-new-budget-focused-core-i3-and-core-i5-aspire-lap/">Acer rolls out new budget-focused Core i3 and Core i5 Aspire laptops</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 07 Jan 2010 00:01:00 EST. Wanting yourself a good old fashioned convertible tablet PC? We've seen Acer's Aspire Timeline <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/1820PT/">1820PT</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/16/acer-aspire-timeline-1820pt-convertible-hits-australia-gets-spe/">hit Australia</a> a little under a month ago, and now the US audience is getting its first telltale sign of 1820PT acceptance. The laptop now has itself a product page on the official stateside product page. No price or release date, unfortunately, but at least we know it's on the near horizon.<br />

You'd think you've seen all the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Windows7/">Windows 7</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/22/windows-7-launch-date-hardware-spectacular/">holiday laptops</a> to last you through this yuletide season, but in comes <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Acer/">Acer</a> with another offering, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Corei7/">Core i7</a>-packing Aspire 8940. The 18.4-inch 1080p widescreen monitor brings with it a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250M, Blu-ray drive, 600GB HDD, and 4GB RAM. Let's also throw in a webcam, 802.11 a/b/g Draft-N, webcam, multi-card reader, HDMI and eSATA ports and a 8-cell Li-Ion battery for good measure. Quite a hefty number, so expect a little bit of workout if you're wanting to haul this around. Suggested price is $1,349 and all we know of the release date is "holiday season" so it should be safe to add this to your wishlist.<br />

He's twisting away from the camera because he's shy, obviously. Acer's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Aspire/">Aspire</a> 1420p tablet made an appearance today at a Chinese press event, and our regional <em>Engadget </em>correspondents were there to grab as many glimpses as their cameras would allow. What makes it even sweet, though, is knowing this little guy's coming to the states, as a rough product page was found on Acer's US site. From what we read, it's got a 11.6-inch LED-backlit multitouch screen with WXGA resolution, an Intel Celeron processor with integrated graphics, up to 8GB RAM and 320GB HDD, 802.11b/g/Draft-N, Bluetooth, a multi-card reader, webcam, and optional 3G. Some secrets remain, of course, like price and release date -- where's Encyclopedia Brown when you really need him?<br />

<div style="text-align: left; ">Acer's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/15/acer-debuts-stylish-multitouch-enabled-aspire-z5610-all-in-one/">Aspire Z5610</a> all-in-one desktop certainly stood out from the pack when the company announced it last week, and it looks like it also managed to impress in person -- at least if <em>Le Journal du Geek</em>'s brief hands-off look at it is any indication. As you can see above, that includes a glimpse at the desktop's nifty ambient lighting system (which we presume can be turned off), a look at the system's slim profile, and a peek at the port situation 'round back. The site also reports that the system will be available on October 30th in France, although Acer still isn't saying more specific than "this holiday season" for a release over here. <div align="left">Acer's done plenty of boasting about its very first 3D laptop, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/14/acer-claims-aspire-5738dg-as-its-first-3d-laptop-we-worry-over/">Aspire 5738DG</a>, but it's just now gotten completely official, and let a few lucky folks get their hands on it. As you might expect, <em>PC Magazine</em> found the 3D part of the laptop to be something of a gimmick, although not entirely unimpressive. More specifically, while attempts at gaming or viewing standard video converted to 3D were apparently quite a letdown, the included TriDef software did reportedly do a pretty impressive job with photos, and the special 3D layer on top of the screen thankfully doesn't cause any nasty side effects when you're not using the 3D glasses. Otherwise, the laptop is expectedly just your basic mid-range Aspire: inexpensive (just $779 even with the 3D glasses), and capable enough for most folks not looking for a screaming gaming rig (2.2GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM, and ATI Radeon HD 4570 graphics).<br /><br /><a href="http://www.slashgear.com/acer-gets-official-with-aspire-5738dg-3d-notebook-2161369/">Read</a> - SlashGear, "Acer gets official with Aspire 5738DG 3D notebook"<br /><a href="http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2354515,00.asp">Read</a> - PC Magazine, "Hands On with Acer's 3D Laptop"</div>
