If there's one wonderful thing we can say about movie game trailers, it's that they keep us on top of what's happening with the kids these days. Take for instance Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel -- we didn't even know there was a second film coming out! What we can glean from the trailer above is that there will be some form of illicit chipmunk love affair angle to the film that will play into the game's story. Also, it may or may not be music-rhythm game of some form. As you can imagine, we were so entranced by the slurry of colors and sounds that it was hard to discern any clear information. We did discover, however, that the game will be coming to the Nintendo Wii and DS on December 1.

Well, maybe we're jumping to conclusions, but we'll be damned if it looks like it's any fun, to be honest. The Chipmunks cover here from the upcoming rhythm-based game Alvin and the Chipmunks looks like a prelude to disaster, as we can't imagine getting through one track, let alone a whole game's worth, without pulling all of our hair out. So, are we just being too harsh or does this game look as bad as we think it does?[Via Go Nintendo]

With DDR Hottest Party out and Guitar Hero III and Samba de Amigo on the way, the Wii is quickly building up an outstanding library of rhythm games (and also the Alvin and the Chipmunks thing). In some cases, especially with Samba, the Wiimote makes the system ideal, but the real draws are the popularity of the Wii and the relatively low cost of development versus other next-gen consoles. What does the Wii need in order to have a truly classic music game library? Ports, remakes, sequels, or even original ideas are welcome. We long for a new version of Enix's early rhythm game Bust a Groove, whose combination of attack moves and somewhat flexible timing is still totally unique.

It would appear from the screenshots that the Wii game based on the nightmarish Alvin and the Chipmunks movie will be a rhythm game in the vein of Samba de Amigo or EyeToy: Groove, in which players position the controllers toward one corner of the screen in time with scrolling icons. Both of those games are pretty good, but they aren't Alvin and the Chipmunks movie games. Much like Alvin, we'd prefer a hula hoop.Along with some Chipmunks classics (like "The Chipmunk Song" and, uh ...) the game will contain "more than 40 songs" including "Heartbreak Hotel", "It's Tricky" and "Shiny Happy People". All Chipmunk-ized. We're so glad that the real Samba game is coming out, so we don't even have to try to play this.
