The "Endless" series of games reached over one million copies sold, Iceberg Interactive announced. The series consists of three games, Dungeon of the Endless, Endless Legend and Endless Space, and the trio combined to sell 1.2 million units to date. All three games were created by Amplitude Studios, the latest being October's Dungeon of the Endless, a retro-styled roguelike for PC and Mac. Amplitude kicked the series off with Endless Space in 2012, a 4X space strategy game that served as a precursor to Endless Legend, which launched in September. Those that pick up the $20 Crystal Pack for Dungeon of the Endless on Steam receive an additional playable faction for Endless Space's Disharmony expansion as well as extra unit skins for Endless Legend. The team at Amplitude Studios is having a busy week, having just launched Dungeon of the Endless in full on Steam a few days ago. Now, it's offering a "Shades of Alteration" add-on for another game in its strategy series, Endless Legend. The free DLC adds a Halloween-themed quest to the 4X fantasy-strategy game called "A Tale from the Dark Season," which rewards players with an undiscolsed prize. The update also introduces modding tools to the game, allowing players to create and tweak a number of game elements to their content. Players will be able to add new faction traits, items, skills, city improvements, technology and quests to Endless Legend, as well as adding or changing resources, text and 2D assets in the strategy game using the new mod tools. Endless Legend launched on Steam in September after its near five-month stay on Early Access. The game's Classic Pack is available on PC or Mac for $35, whereas the $45 Emperor Pack adds bonus in-game items. [Image: Iceberg Interactive]

Amplitude Studios' roguelike Dungeon of the Endless left the Early Access nest today, launching in full on Steam. The game entered its alpha phase on the platform in December as the developers' next "Endless" game, set in the same universe as Endless Space. In it, players guide a crew of heroes through randomly generated dungeons, gathering resources and fending off foes to survive. It also features cooperative multiplayer for up to four players. The retro-styled PC and Mac game costs $13 (€12) for the Pixel Pack or $20 (€19) for the Founder's Pack, the latter offering additional ships and heroes. Those looking to upgrade from the Pixel Pack to the Founder's pack can do so for $7.20, a 10 percent discount on the standard upgrade price. The Founder's pack also features half-off coupons for both Endless Space and Endless Space: Disharmony. Head past the break for a look at Dungeon of the Endless' launch trailer. Dungeon of the Endless, a game we once described as "a roguelike with elements of tower defense, RPGs and Dungeon Keeper," will reach Steam on October 27, according to developer Amplitude Studios. "Dungeon of the Endless offers endless, randomly generated dungeons in the framework of a rogue-like game equally balanced with dungeon-defense and RPG elements," reads Amplitude's official description. "Presented with a retro 2D look using modern 3D graphics and lighting, Dungeon of the Endless enables players to equip a team in single-player, and now up to four people in cooperative multiplayer, to gather resources, construct defenses, and explore an infinite number of dungeons in an effort to reach the planet's surface." As its name suggests, Dungeon of the Endless is canonically linked to Amplitude's 4X strategy games, Endless Space and Endless Legend, though it takes place in its own separate time period. Still, fans can expect to see common elements, such as the presence of Dust and certain creatures that just never seem to die off. At launch, Dungeon of the Endless will feature a $13 price tag, though it is currently available in Early Access form at a 10 percent discount. [Image: Amplitude Studios]

Endless Legend will exit Early Access and launch in full on Steam on September 18, Iceberg Interactive announced. The 4X strategy game entered its alpha phase on the PC distribution platform in April, receiving new factions, "fully functional" multiplayer and other updates in July. The game's soundtrack is also available at a name-your-price rate on Bandcamp, courtesy of Game Audio Factory. Endless Legend is currently 10 percent off ($31.49) while still in its beta state. Buying in to the Founder Pack ($40.49) grants players some assorted bonus goods, including half-off Steam coupons for Amplitude Studios' Endless Space and Endless Space Disharmony. One of the developer's other games, Dungeon of the Endless, was among a list of games confirmed for Xbox One at Gamescom last month. Come to think of it, we're pretty sure there's a pattern to Amplitude Studios' recent naming conventions. [Image: Iceberg Interactive]

Endless Legend, the early access 4X fantasy game by Endless Space and Dungeon of the Endless developer Amplitude Studios, will receive a significant update today. The update includes two new factions, "fully functional" multiplayer, enhancements to the battle system, more diplomacy and a spellbooks worth of other features. The game is currently 25% off on Steam for $26.24, but according to the game's publisher that discount isn't endless and will drop to 10% off as the game nears completion. You know, until the Steam sale after release, where it'll be 75% off. [Image: Amplitude]

Endless Space developer Amplitude has released its newest game, Endless Legend, on Steam Early Access today. The two games occupy the same universe, but Legend is a 4X fantasy strategy game, whereas its sibling is built around creating a space colony. Since it is an early access game, it features half the playable factions, with the additions of advanced AI for diplomacy, economics and combat coming in the future. There are many more details on what's included (and missing) on the game's steam page. [Image: Amplitude]

Dungeon of the Endless is out now on Steam Early Access and it's getting some extra features – at GDC, Amplitude Studios told us that the roguelike dungeon defense game is getting four-player co-op and a visual log that tracks player progress with a series of collectible, digital cards. The latest trailer includes a lineup of pixelated pugs, for no reason we can think of except that they're immensely adorable. Check out Twitch for our livestream of some Early Access Steam gameplay, and check out the game for yourself on Steam. This one is looking better and better.

Endless Legend, the "civilization fantasy game" by Endless Space and Dungeon of the Endless developer Amplitude Studios, will enter Steam's Early Access program next month. The team told us at GDC that the plan is for the game to have its official launch by year's end. The fantasy 4X strategy game features Civilization series-style empire-building gameplay, mixed with zoomed-in tactical turn-based battlefield combat. There will be orcs. Like, all the orcs. Dungeon of the Endless, the drunkenly conceived roguelike by Endless Space's Amplitude Studios, still has some features to add before its final release. The game has been available through Steam's Early Access program since December, but the studio still plans to add four-player co-op before the game's final release. The team also told us at GDC they expect to add a "visual log" of game events and characters that derives its inspiration from card collections. Think of a binder full of baseball, Marvel or football cards, but it's of the game. The Amplitude team had nothing to announce about the game coming to tablets, but it's painfully clear from the coy looks when we asked the question and the game's design that such a transition is highly plausible. The team has "honestly no idea" when the game will have its official launch. [Image: Amplitude]

Tiny Streams has a dollop of punishing roguelike action for you this Valentine's Day. Nothing says, "I love you!" like watching someone rail against Dungeon of the Endless, the new game from Amplitude Studios, the Parisian team behind the popular strategy game Endless Space. Jess Conditt, Joystiq's Senior Reporter, dove into the alpha version of Dungeon of the Endless to give an early view of how Amplitude approaches a more terrestrial game of strategy. A more intimate experience than Endless Space, Dungeon is no less challenging than its predecessor while retaining its hard science fiction ambiance. Joystiq Tiny Streams air right here on Joystiq.com every Monday and Friday at 4PM EST. To check out Jess' full stream of the game, or to follow her future streams, hit up her Twitch channel. Full Joystiq Streams air on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4PM EST. [Images: Amplitude Studios]

Amplitude Studios launched its dungeon defense game Dungeon of the Endless on Steam today. The alpha version of the game is available through Steam Early Access through two packs, both currently 25 percent off. The base-level Pixel Pack version is currently $9.74, whereas the Founder Pack is $14.99 and grants players access to additional ships, heroes and 50 percent off coupons for Endless Space and its Disharmony expansion. Dungeon of the Endless, billed as a roguelike dungeon defense game, is set in the Endless Space universe and has players opening doors, gathering goods and decimating enemies before their equipment is destroyed. Amplitude Studios divulged the game's inception, which occurred during a late-night, drunken brain-storming session, at Gamescom.

Endless Space isn't quite endless, but it is still a very large strategy game that just grew a bit bigger thanks to the addition of the free Search for Auriga DLC pack. As we reported when the DLC was announced, Search for Auriga adds new heroes, a new planet type, a special wonder and a number of AI and balance improvements to Endless Space. Full details on the DLC's additions and changes can be found on developer Amplitude Studios' website. Before you rush over to Steam to download the DLC - the addition will be automatically downloaded and installed the next time you start Endless Space - keep in mind that it requires you own both Endless Space and the game's Disharmony expansion. Both items can be found on Steam.

  • Dungeon of the Endless is roguelike, tower defense sci-fi and fantasy

"We were drunk." Amplitude Studios Game Director Max von Knorring introduces Dungeon of the Endless to me at Gamescom with the story of a late-night, booze-infused, group brainstorming session. He recalls that when his team stumbled into work the next morning, they all had ideas for a new game: something retro-inspired, a roguelike with elements of tower defense, RPGs and Dungeon Keeper, and something to play with friends. One week later Amplitude had a prototype for Dungeon of the Endless, a 2D pixel romp set in a 3D world, within the sci-fi-fantasy universe of Endless Space and Endless Legend. A brief trailer teased Dungeon of the Endless earlier this month, showing an emergency space pod crashing into a nearby planet, the crew of three inside brushing off, standing up, and one of them opening the door to fire a pistol at ... something. The trailer ends with the question, "What's behind the door?" The second reveal trailer answers that question in two parts: Monsters. And then dead monsters.

The reveal trailer for Dungeon of the Endless crash-landed earlier this month, teasing a new, retro-styled game from Endless Space developer Amplitude Studios. That announcement implied its mysteries would be revealed at Gamescom, but Amplitude had an entirely different secret waiting for us: It's also developing Endless Legend, a 4X strategy title not styled in pixelated 3D or related to interstellar travel. Both Dungeon of the Endless and Endless Legend are due out in alpha by the end of the year. Endless Legend is a "civilization fantasy game," Amplitude Creative Director Romain de Waubert de Genlis told me at Gamescom today, during a run-through of the game's early-alpha build. Players craft empires in a fantasy setting, complete with orcs, castles and Broken Lords, a playable faction of "vampire knights." These noblemen must slaughter civilizations in order to survive, but they have souls and don't inherently enjoy killing people. Whether they're "broken" because they care or because they kill is up to the player.

Amplitude Studios, developers of Endless Space, released a trailer that teases its new project, apparently called Dungeon of the Endless. The video shows spaceships and explosions with a pretty, retro-inspired design. In the teaser trailer, Amplitude Studios asks the question, "What's behind the door?" We're deducing that we may learn the answer to that question at Gamescom, primarily because the video ends with the words "more at Gamescom." We know, our detective skills are incredible.

Ampltude Studios' Endless Space will launch its first premium expansion, Disharmony, on June 26 through Steam. Publisher Iceberg Interactive will also have an English retail version – key-only box with 16 page artbook – two days later. The expansion is priced at 10 in both $ and € Earth currency forms. The Disharmony expansion will add a new faction ("The Harmony") to the 4X strategy game, as well as new ship types, targeting and redesigned weapon systems, better AI, along with an "enhanced invasion mechanics." Endless Space has sold over 300,000 copies and the developer has been quite generous with free add-ons, having done four since last year's July launch. %Gallery-191675%

Ampltude Studios' Endless Space has been quite generous with free add-ons, having done four since the 4X space strategy game launched last July. The game's first official expansion will warp into digital and retail space this summer for $10. Dubbed Disharmony, the expansion adds a new faction ("The Harmony"), mixes in fighters and bombers to the capital ship warfare, adds new targeting and redesigned weapon systems, and introduces "enhanced invasion mechanics." The game's AI is also receiving an upgrade. Endless Space has received a lot of love from Amplitude and has shown consistent improvement over the past year. The game has sold over 300,000 copies.

  • Mac Game of the Week: Endless Space is a beautiful space-faring 4X strategy game

    by
    Mike Schramm

    03.14.2013

There's no question that iOS games tend to be a little more oriented towards the quicker and the easier, so when I head back to the Mac platform looking for a game to spotlight, I like to go a little more cerebral. And Endless Space, as you can probably tell from the screenshot above, is definitely that. It's a 4X strategy game, where the four Xs are actually Es that stand for "eXploration, eXpand, eXploit and eXterminate." As with most games of this type (Civ and Galactic Civilizations are probably my two favorite examples), Endless Space is a turn-based strategy title, where you expand a space-faring civilization out into a galaxy full of various resources and enemies, designed to either help or hinder you on your journey. It's a complicated game, to be sure: There are complex systems of taxation and population to take care of, and the ships that you build and fly around the universe can be customized and tweaked to your heart's content. And the title is certainly apt: Not only is the universe you'll discover very large indeed, but the tech tree itself is practically endless, and the game is almost infinitely replayable as well. Endless Space isn't for the faint of heart -- if browsing through stat screens trying to get as much information as possible before making a major decision about which planet to colonize next isn't all that appealing to you, then maybe you're in the mood for something a little targeted towards the reflexes rather than the mind. But if you are looking for a cerebral, space-based title on the Mac, Endless Space is it. Plus, this week on Steam it's on sale for half off, so you can pick up the basic edition (in a Steam Play version, which means you get it for both PC and Mac) for as low as US$14.99. Enjoy.
