For you crazy folks that own a 3DS but do not have Animal Crossing: New Leaf yet, the game is currently on sale for $26.59 on Amazon. This gives players a little more money to pay their real-life bills when not working hard to pay off Tom Nook's home loans in the game. It's a great deal, as we think pretty highly of the cute life simulation-style game. %Gallery-190164%

Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aime's house in Animal Crossing: New Leaf is pretty swank: Nintendo museum, storage basement – it even has a bed with a giant disturbing face on it. While he never explicitly says, we're assuming this is an exact replica of Fils-Aime's actual house.

  • The Last of Us is the first in UK

The Last of Us represented several accomplishments during its first week of sale in the UK, where it took the number one spot on the region's sales chart. According to Chart Track, the game is the first Sony exclusive to take the top spot since Uncharted: Golden Abyss on Vita in early 2012. It's also the third fastest selling game of 2013 behind Bioshock Infinite and the "weak" Tomb Raider, along with being the biggest launch for a new intellectual property since L.A Noire in 2011. Overall, a fine start to developer Naughty Dog's swan song for PlayStation 3. The cash infusions for the UK retail market didn't end with The Last of Us, as Nintendo's Animal Crossing: New Leaf debuted in second and became (wow, y'all love your Tom Nook debt programs) the biggest non-Mario 3DS launch ever. The UK top ten indentured to Tom Nook can be found after the break.

  • Animal Crossing New Leaf review: Beardo's lament

I've developed a hatred for Beardo, a blue bear with a mustache and sideburns that built his house right next to mine in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I had plans to surround my mansion-to-be with flower beds. While the line of cherry trees I planted set me apart from Beardo, it wasn't good enough. Even as the mayor of the town of Hayward, a title granted to me by mistake because I stepped off the train alone after the game's brief introduction, my power was limited. Sure, I could mosey over to the town hall to complain about how Beardo dresses or talks, which I did, but he only assured me he'll clean up his act. I couldn't just kick Beardo to the curb. As mayor, it's my responsibility to make the town sparkle with new public works projects. Beardo didn't fund the yellow bench or the fountain it sits in front of – I did. He didn't plant the assorted trees, build a campsite or a police station. While I'm paying for prime tourist attractions, Beardo is lumbering around town with a watering can, flooding the flowers I already watered. One Saturday afternoon, the town's citizens competed in a sea bass fishing derby. I devoted hours to luring in dozens of fish, and was determined to win a sweet gold trophy for the center of the main room of my house. I came in second, and you better believe I was bitter when Beardo stood above me on the winner's podium, holding the first place trophy that was meant for me. I then abandoned my duties as mayor to dig holes around his house, plant trees in front of his doorway, send him vulgar letters and shove him around until he stormed off in anger. It may be my job to make Hayward heaven for its citizens, but it became my personal mission to make it hell for Beardo.%Gallery-190164%

The latest "tourism" trailer for Animal Crossing: New Leaf shows potential new mayors some of the shopping options available in the latest game. For the first time, you can actually choose how you'd like your house to be renovated, instead of having Tom Nook demolish your house based on his own assumptions. The result is the same, however: You owe Tom Nook crazy Bells.

The Wii U shipped 3.45 million units worldwide as of March 31, a figure well short of the 4 million projected in January, itself adjusted from initial forecasts of 5.5 million. That means the Wii U only shipped around 390,000 units worldwide in the last three months. In a financial statement, Nintendo said its console failed to "maintain the initial sales momentum" due to delays of subsequent games, and the company aims to remedy this in the second half of this year through to next year by "releasing key Nintendo titles." The company believes this'll help the Wii U attain its projected shipping figures of 9 million for the next fiscal year (April 1 2013 to March 31 2014).Nintendo's fiscal year net profits came in at almost half the company's projections, down from a projected ¥14 billion to just over ¥7 billion, or around $71 million. The figure nonetheless represents significant turnaround from the ¥43 billion net loss posted for the previous fiscal year. Nintendo forecasts net profits of ¥55 billion for its next fiscal year.3DS shipping figures continue to climb, with the handheld now at 31.09 million, up over a million in the last quarter. The Wii remains short of the 100M mark at 99.84 million. The Wii outperformed the Wii U in the last quarter, shipping 70,000 units more at 460,000.

As I stepped off the train to embark on my new life in my new Animal Crossing: New Leaf town, I was greeted by a party of citizens who immediately proclaimed me the mayor.Did I kill the old mayor on the train before arriving and assume their identity? How was I elected mayor when I'm not even a registered resident of this town, a point that isn't even brought up during my registration process? Clearly I had been elected to public office, unprepared and unqualified for the job.

UK retailer ShopTo is listing the same Animal Crossing: New Leaf 3DS XL bundle that came to Japan when the game arrived there last year. The site's description says it includes a 4GB SD card, and prices the polka-dot bundle at £190, which is the same price the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Fire Emblem: Awakening XL bundles are going for in the region.Nintendo hasn't announced an Animal Crossing: New Leaf bundle for Europe (or North America), and ShopTo's listing has the same Japanese-emblazoned box as above, rather than a new English one. Having said that, its emergence just ahead of a Nintendo Direct broadcast is a bit suspect. Maybe we'll frond out tomorrow if the bundle is coming to town along with New Leaf in June.Update: While it still appears in a Google search, ShopTo has since removed the listing.

Nintendo adjusted its annual net profit outlook from ¥6 billion to ¥14 billion (around $154 million) on the back of a weakening yen, with the company posting a nine-month operating loss of ¥5.8 billion ($63.7 million) compared to the corresponding figure of ¥48.4 billion for the last fiscal year. However, Nintendo's end-of-fiscal-year hardware targets took a big hit on the back of shipping 3.06 million Wii U consoles in 2012.Nintendo now projects a figure of 4 million for Wii U by the end of its fiscal year on March 31, down from the 5.5 million the company predicted in October 2012. 3DS shipments are now expected to hit 15 million for the year, down from initial projections of 18.5 million.Nintendo has now shifted 29.84 million units of its handheld since launch. Meanwhile, the Wii's life-to-date figures are up to 99.38 million, with 3.53 million units shipped across the nine month period.Regards software, Nintendo shifted 11.69 million Wii U games since the console's launch on November 18, The best-performing games were the bundled-in Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. U, coming in at 2.33 million and 2.01 million respectively. On the 3DS front, Nintendo shipped 39.56 million units of the handheld across the nine months. Pokémon Black/White 2 soared to a total of 7.63 million on the back of almost 3 million sales in Japan alone, while New Super Mario Bros. 2 is at 5.96 million. Animal Crossing: New Leaf sits at 2.73 million, largely thanks to its popularity with Japan's female demographic. All figures are as of December 31, 2012.

Japanese sales of Animal Crossing: New Leaf are at around 2.3 million, with 500,000 of those coming from digital downloads alone. Those ever-storming sales, both overall and digital, are arguably not as surprising as a stat revealed to Nikkei by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata. As translated by Siliconera, Iwata said women represent 56 perecent of those buying a 3DS with the game, far greater than the 3DS' female install base of 31 percent.Animal Crossing has long been put forward as being popular with women, and these figures show the series' 3DS entry certainly is in Japan. Iwata also noted the largest group of all New Leaf purchasers in the first three weeks of sales was 'female, aged 19-24.' The Nintendo chief used this to play down suggestions of smartphones being a risk to gaming devices like the 3DS."People often debate whether smart phones will eliminate the need of consoles for gaming," said Iwata. "When you look at these numbers, women of ages 19 to 24 are some of the core users of smart phone games. They say casual female gamers don't need a console, but after seeing these figures, we'd really like to reconsider that and the true value of console gaming."
