In remembrance of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/steve+jobs?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Steve Jobs</a>, Desai built the faux <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ipod?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iPod</a> using HTML5, CSS3, and a touch of jQuery. You can drag the click wheel around just like with the real deal, change the volume, hit play / pause and even skip tracks. Especially nice is the addition of Extras like the Clock and the Calendar. Unfortunately, you won't be able to play any of your own tunes, but Desai had compiled a list of Creative Commons songs, so you can see how the player works. The next step is for someone to fill this up with hits of the early aughts ("Last Nite" by The Strokes, perhaps?) so you can truly travel back in time to the heydays of Windows XP and the Enron scandal.</p>

Both Canada and the US can buy the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/PhilippeStarck/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Philippe Starck</a>-crafted speaker in November, when it will cost $999 for Americans in its black and white guises (sorry, no red for now). While that's a lot to pay for a 100W speaker, Parrot is counting on the unique acoustic design, a conventional iOS dock and a mix of Bluetooth, NFC and WiFi to tempt people away from the land of horizontal sound. It's undoubtedly one of the easiest ways to make a speaker dock the focus of a room -- and that's part of the point, isn't it?</p>

Not unless we want to produce false positives on the USGS' <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/earthquake/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">earthquake</a> meters, anyway. We're happy to say the company has addressed that domestic oversight with the iNuke Boom Junior. The iOS- and iPod-capable speaker dock won't launch nearly as large-scale an audio assault at 50W, but it's also less than a twentieth of the size of its parent; no one will need a forklift to get Junior into the living room. In spite of the less than ego-inflating dimensions, the smaller system appears balanced with discrete woofer, tweeter and mid-range components as well as separate bass control. We just wish it was slightly more futureproof. As glad as we are that the iNuke Boom Junior's $180 price at Costco spares us from raiding our retirement funds, the speaker is still using a pre-<a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Lightning,Apple/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Lightning</a> dock connector and lacks any wireless audio -- <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/18/apple-iphone-5-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iPhone 5</a> owners will have to turn to an adapter or the aux-in jack. At least we won't be violating any local noise laws in the process.</p>

Its new DS-A5 docking station brings Apple's WiFi media streaming to many home stereos, including those of rivals, as long as there's a wired or 802.11g-capable wireless router to feed the connection. Naturally, there's perks if you do live in an Onkyo universe -- any link using its Remote Interactive cable can both wake the stereo through AirPlay as well as control the dock from a traditional remote. About the only oddities are the vintage composite video output and a 30-pin dock for charging iPads, iPhones and iPods, neither of which will be much help if you live <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/18/apple-iphone-5-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">on the cutting edge</a>. Onkyo brings the DS-A5 to American shores in October for $199; that's a lot to pay for playing songs from the couch, but it's a sight more affordable than replacing home audio equipment costing multiple times that amount.</p>

Apple has been experimenting with a concept that could power gadgets as big as iPhones and iPods with that spring in your step -- and without the bulk of any extra wires. A newly published patent application uses flat, printed coils to generate electromagnetic <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/induction/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">induction</a> through movable magnets; as the device bounces around in your pocket, the magnets slide past the coils and run them through the magnetic fields they need to build electricity. It all sounds grand, but it's hard to tell from the very recent June filing whether the technology is enough to keep devices completely powered or simply delays the inevitable. We'd still suggest getting <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/running?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">back into shape</a>, though, in the event that morning run can one day save you from hunting down a wall outlet.</p>

And while the Cupertino outfit's had the music-friendly lineup for pre-order on its website from day one, folks can now start placing orders through Amazon as well. The only bad news is the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/12/ipod-nano-hands-on-2012/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">revamped iPod touch</a> shows an estimated shipping time of 3-5 weeks, while the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/12/ipod-nano-hands-on-2012/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">"renanoed" nano</a> and the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/12/ipod-shuffle-updated/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">tiny, colorful shuffle</a> are both expected to be shipped in 2-5 weeks. As far as pricing goes, the MSRP tags are the same as Apple's -- though <em>there is</em> a better chance you could get them a bit quicker thanks to one of Amazon's renowned shipping options. Either way, you'll find 'em all at the source link below.</p>

We've got a trifecta of approvals on the way for 2012 that start with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/12/iphone-5-hands-on-video-details/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iPhone 5</a>. What's hard to miss is the absurd number of cellular bands at work: as Apple had to make <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/12/apple-iphone-5-lte/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">separate iPhone 5 models</a> to cover every LTE carrier it supports, on top of the usual alphabet soups for CDMA and GSM, the filing combining the two devices is one of the largest we've seen to date. The addition of 5GHz WiFi support only compounds the situation.</p><p> A pair of iPods also made their appearances today, and they've been given the regulatory once-over as well. The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/12/pod-touch-hands-on-2012-video/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iPod touch</a> has the 5GHz WiFi band included and isn't special by itself, but the new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/12/ipod-nano-hands-on-2012/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iPod nano</a> is noteworthy simply for showing up at all -- the inclusion of Bluetooth means a spin past the testing facility in addition to some wireless audio. We're still digging to see if the iPhone or new iPods have any surprises, although you can have a first-hand look through the source links.</p><p> <em>Brad Molen contributed to this report.</em></p>

Sure Apple went and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/12/apple-announces-fifth-generation-ipod-touch-6-1mm-thin-88grams/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">revamped</a> the rest of its music playing brethren, but the HDD stalwart is, as its name implies, staying true to its roots. <p class="image-container" style="text-align: center; "> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/12/apple-announces-fifth-generation-ipod-touch-6-1mm-thin-88grams/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/ipodtouch-1347475976.jpg" /></a></p><p> Today at its iPhone launch event, Apple announced yet <em>another</em> piece of hardware: the fifth-generation iPod touch. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/22/purported-fifth-gen-ipod-4-1-inch-touch-panel/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">As rumored</a>, it has a 4-inch display, the same 326 ppi panel used on the new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/12/iphone-5-officially-announced/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iPhone 5</a>. As you might have guessed, this is also the thinnest iPod touch to date, measuring in at 6.1mm and weighing 88 grams (3.1 ounces). On the inside, it packs an A5 chip promising seven times the graphics performance of the last-gen model. The battery is rated for 40 hours of music playback, or eight hours of video -- a slight improvement over the last-generation touch.</p><p> The rear camera has also gotten an upgrade: it's now built on a 5-megapixel sensor, paired with a backside-illuminated f/2.4 lens. It also now shoots 1080p video, and Apple has also added image stabilization. And yes, it supports the same panorama shooting feature as the iPhone 5. The front camera, meanwhile, is 720p and supports FaceTime (over WiFi only, of course -- no 4G models here).</p><p> If that image stabilization feature doesn't do it for you, there's also a protruding button on the back, to which you can attach a wrist strap -- you know, so that if the shakes get really bad you at least won't drop the thing. Perhaps the biggest news, though, is that the new iPod touch has Siri built in, making it the first non-iPhone device from Apple to get this feature. Finally, it comes loaded with iO6 and if you don't know what that entails, well, we've got your feature summary right <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/11/apple-unveils-ios-6-at-wwdc/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">here</a>.</p><p> The iPod touch will be available in two flavors: a 32GB model ($299) and a 64GB number ($399). It will be sold in five colors: "raw aluminum," black, blue, yellow and red, and a (PRODUCT) RED version will also be available. Three hundred bucks too pricey for your next PMP? The last-generation touch will remain on the market, with the 16GB one going for $199 and the 32GB version selling for $249.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ipod-touch-2012-glamour-shots/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iPod touch (2012)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ipod-touch-2012-glamour-shots/5280377?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/ipodtouch34l5upallcolorsnowplayingprint_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ipod-touch-2012-glamour-shots/5280378?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/ipodtouchbluwpodsprint_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ipod-touch-2012-glamour-shots/5280379?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/ipodtouchfamily4pbpfnowplayingprint_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ipod-touch-2012-glamour-shots/5280380?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/ipodtouchpfhorizbluloopcameraprint_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ipod-touch-5th-generation/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iPod Touch 5th generation</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ipod-touch-5th-generation/5279826?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/img0482-1347474370_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ipod-touch-5th-generation/5279827?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/img0483-1347474371_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ipod-touch-5th-generation/5279828?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/img0485-1347474372_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ipod-touch-5th-generation/5279829?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/img0487-1347474372_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ipod-touch-5th-generation/5279830?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/img0489-1347474374_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p><p> <em>Check out our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/12/apple-iphone-5-liveblog/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget" target="_blank">liveblog</a> of Apple's event to get the latest news as it happens!</em></p>

They're notorious for slipping out of wearers' ears and having a mediocre sound next to just about <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/20/back-to-school-guide-portable-audio/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">anything else you can buy</a>. If <em>Tinhte</em>'s own discovery in Vietnam is authentic, Apple might be breaking with another one of its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/29/supposed-new-iphone-casings-show-up-with-tall-body-tiny-dock/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">longstanding traditions</a> this year by redesigning those earpieces for the better. Gone are the usual buds that only vaguely aim towards your ear canals. Instead, what's on show has oval tips very loosely resembling those of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/10/klipsch-image-s4-ii-x7i-ears-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Klipsch Image S4 II</a>, and slots in at an angle to fit more directly into the canals -- not to mention more comfortably, based on early tests. We can't guarantee that these headphones are more than just the products of an ambitious third-party manufacturer, but <em>Tinhte</em> has had a good track record for snagging <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/12/next-generation-iphone-escapes-in-vietnam/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">pre-release Apple gear</a>, and that "Designed by Apple in California Assembled in Vietnam" lettering would reduce the possibilities to either a good <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/KIRF/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">KIRF</a> or the real thing. Remember how Hardware Engineering Senior VP Bob Mansfield <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/28/apple-senior-vp-of-hardware-engineering-bob-mansfield-to-retire/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">said he would retire</a> in June? He's had a change of heart and will keep working on future products. Meanwhile, two of the vice presidents who've been mainstays of Apple's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/11/apple-wwdc-2012-liveblog/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">recent plans</a>, Mac Software Engineering VP Craig Federighi and Hardware Engineering VP Dan Riccio, have been promoted to Senior VP. All three will report directly to CEO Tim Cook, and both Federighi as well as Riccio will get their first turns at Apple's executive management team. While the shift isn't going to signal a dramatic change in strategy, it's notable that Riccio's role is expanding: he's moving from his earlier <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/16/apple-ipad-review-2012/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iPad</a> focus to overseeing all the hardware Apple makes. We can only guess at what the ultimate goals might be for the new assignments, although we can imagine Apple jumping through hoops to keep a hardware executive as skilled as Mansfield on its side.</p>

That must be why it's <em>still</em> attempting to patent a water detection method that it's been seeking since December 2006, just a month before the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/09/live-from-macworld-2007-steve-jobs-keynote/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iPhone went public</a>. The concept is a simple one that you'll find in many iPhones (and other iOS devices) so far: water-reactive, color-changing tape positioned in a device such that the Genius Bar staffer can see that your device took a dive in the swimming pool without having to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/13/iphone-4s-gets-teardown-treatment-siri-gasps-in-terror/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">tear the phone open</a>. Mercifully, the patent factors in a membrane to prevent an overly humid day from triggering a false positive. There's still no immediate clue as to whether or not Apple will receive the patent, which strikes us as odd for a technology that's been used in the field for so long -- not that the company has needed the USPTO's blessing to void the warranty (or offer a rare free replacement) for more than a few waterlogged iPhones over the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/29/visualized-the-iphone-five-years-after-launch/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">past five years</a>.</p><p> <strong>Update:</strong> After a little fine-tooth comb inspection, we've found that this is the long-awaited granting itself, not just a continuation. Apple will be happy, although others trying to use a similar water detection system will be turning red... for reasons besides getting wet.</p>

This time, it's aiming at someone we know all too well: the urban dweller who goes through replacement headphones like so much meat through a grinder. The Capital over-ears' bolstered fiberglass shell is designed to be rain- and snow-resistant, not to mention take the casual knocks that might beat up other headphone pairs. The foldable set likewise gives us every excuse to keep it on our heads, both through a light and reputedly comfortable brace as well as an in-line mic and remote to take that iPhone call through the Capital's 40mm drivers. At $125, the pair isn't the lowest-cost entry into the headphone world, but if it spares us from having to dive for cover when the weather turns foul, it could well be a bargain. You can get a sense of AiAiAi's impetus for yourself in a video after the break.</p>

There's now a much better sense of balance: Apple just flicked the switch on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iTunesStore/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iTunes Store</a> for music and movies in a dozen countries and territories across the Asia-Pacific region. The company singles out our own Richard Lai's Hong Kong as well as Singapore and Taiwan, but we'd be remiss if we didn't mention that Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam are also getting the media catalogs, which include local content along with the international hits. It's a full catch-up as well, with iTunes in the Cloud re-downloads and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/14/itunes-match-goes-live-sync-up-your-entire-music-collection-for/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iTunes Match</a> subscriptions available in every new country. If you're a huge Andy Lau fan but wanted his albums from the most iPhone-friendly store possible, the wait is over.</p>

But don't let that deter you from checking out the new 23-inch LCD, whose cradle in the base will both keep your Apple gear topped up as well as play movies and music through the display. The 10-watt speakers won't exactly bring the house down, though they will let you take the headphones off. As an actual computer display, it's a typical <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/tn?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">TN-based</a> panel with a 1080p resolution, a quick 2ms pixel response time and a boldly claimed 50,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. Those who find a separate dock or (gasp) wires too much can officially spend $280 for an Aire iPlay of their own today; Amazon and other shops have already knocked the price down to a more palpable $230.</p>

You can share from core apps like Maps, Photos and Safari, but it's woven even more deeply than Twitter was in iOS 5: you can use Siri to make your commands, and there's now a public API for Facebook so that other apps can do the same. The App Store gets its own share of integration, with app recommendations based on what friends are using, and contact syncing now makes sure your social network is all lined up. Best of all, the Facebook integration is coming to Macs as well -- so you'll have a consistent experience no matter what device you're on.</p><p> Check out our full coverage of WWDC 2012 at our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/event/wwdc-2012?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">event hub</a>!</p>

Following some brief downtime on the Cupertino corp's retail site, the unit is set to retail for $250. While discussing the best way to get a startup company humming at a Northwest Entrepreneur Network event, Bach mentioned his view that Microsoft should never have started down the MP3 player path to start with and should have instead <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/25/report-microsoft-revealing-xbox-woodstock-music-service-at-e3/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">gone service-only</a>. The Zune was a too-little-too-late reaction to the iPod, according to him, and the option to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/15/zune-4-0-software-is-out-ready-to-fulfill-your-dreams/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">squirt your songs</a> apparently wasn't enough of a lure:</p><blockquote> <p> <span>"We just weren't brave enough, honestly, and we ended up chasing Apple with a product that actually wasn't a bad product, but it was still a chasing product, and there wasn't a reason for somebody to say, oh, I have to go out and get that thing."</span></p></blockquote><p> We've had <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/17/zune-hd-review?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">some affection for the Zune</a> in the past, but there's no denying that it faced an uphill battle from the start. Sales <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/10/zune-breaks-2-million-sold-stealing-market-from-creative-not-ap/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">leveled off</a> almost immediately, and the damage was primarily to smaller competitors like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Creative/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Creative</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/SanDisk/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">SanDisk</a> that couldn't throw their weight around the way Microsoft did.</p>

The partnership sees the original iPod dock covered in smooth glass and cut metal, which certainly sets it apart from pretty much <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ipod+dock?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">any other dock</a> we've ever seen. The dock connector sits at the top, and being inset, isn't suitable for iPads, but if you're getting one of these, we imagine you don't want to ruin the aesthetic by perching a slate on top anyway. There is, however, a USB connection meaning this isn't an iDevice only affair. If you've got the estimated &pound;10,000 (or about $15,840) lying around, it'll have to keep burning that hole in your pocket until some time in March. We managed to get a quick hands -- and ears -- on with the only two units in the UK, but couldn't explore much beyond how it looked in-store, bar an awkward moment when we placed an iPhone on it, only to discover it set to full volume. Check the gallery below for a closer look, or hit the PR after the break for more info.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jarre-aerosystem-one-launches-new-lalique-edition/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Jarre AeroSystem One arrives in a new Lalique edition</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jarre-aerosystem-one-launches-new-lalique-edition/4808227?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/jarredsc01468mat800-1328818232_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jarre-aerosystem-one-launches-new-lalique-edition/4808216?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/jarredsc01485mat800-1328818216_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jarre-aerosystem-one-launches-new-lalique-edition/4808211?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/jarredsc01491mat800-1328818207_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jarre-aerosystem-one-launches-new-lalique-edition/4808215?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/jarredsc01486mat800-1328818214_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jarre-aerosystem-one-launches-new-lalique-edition/4808223?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/jarredsc01472mat800-1328818225_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em>Mat Smith contributed to this post</em>

	We almost don't want to talk about our tablets and phones this week, just because one or two show-stoppers <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/09/transformer-prime-detailed-10-inch-super-ips-display-12-hour/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">here</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/07/barnes-and-nobles-nook-tablet-gets-real-we-go-hands-on-video/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">there</a> have made pretty much everything we own seem wholly inadequate. So we'll tell you about the stuff we won't be trading in anytime soon. For James, that means a good pair of over-ear headphones, for Darren it's a $6,000 camera and for Daniel it's a 40GB iPod with "Dan Cooper is awesome" engraved on the back (19 year-olds, <em>right</em>?). No complaints this time: just a trio of Engadget editors sounding off on what's been worth it.</div>

	<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/25/ipod-fathers-unveil-their-next-project-the-nest-learning-thermo/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img border="1" hspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/nest-learning-thermostat.jpg" vspace="4" /></a></div>
Over the summer, we got word that a couple of unnamed ex-Apple engineers were getting ready to unveil an unnamed product, under the guise of an unnamed startup. As it turns out, that startup was Nest Labs, and those Apple alums were none other than Tony Fadell, longtime SVP of Apple's iPod division, and lead engineer Matt Rogers. And yes, the product they had to share makes fine use of a click wheel.<br />
<br />
But if you thought they'd be cooking up a next-gen music player, you'd be wrong. Instead, the pair have been designing a thermostat, of all things, dubbed the Nest. In addition to being the most stylish model ever to grace a dining room wall, it promises the kind of intelligence we've come to expect in other household appliances -- just not thermostats, per se. It'll go on sale next month for $249 in places like Best Buy, but we managed to snag an early sneak peek. Find some photos below and when you're done, join us past the break where we'll explain how it works.<br />

We're all well aware that a new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/29/iphone-5-cases-and-realistic-unibody-dummy-show-off-incredible-s/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iPhone</a> will see daylight <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/27/apple-wants-to-talk-iphone-on-october-4th/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">next week</a>. What's still a bit unclear is whether or not Apple plans on discontinuing the ol' faithful <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/01/confirmed-the-ipod-classic-is-alive-and-well/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iPod classic</a>. However, we may be getting a clue as to what fate the PMP may soon meet. The folks over at <em>AppleInsider</em> discovered that the link to iPod Click Wheel Games no longer appears on the App Store drop-down menu in iTunes. Since 2006, the folks in in Cupertino have been offering added entertainment for the popular mobile jukebox for $7.49 each, but only about 50 titles were available for purchase -- it's kind of hard to develop software when a third-party kit wasn't publicly released. So if you're planning on hanging onto your iPod classic for a little while, we hope you're content to keep playing Vortex, Klondike or whatever else you've already downloaded.

We've all got that one friend who<em> just cannot believe</em> you'd listen to 128kbps MP3s. Well, forget the rent, slap a handful of Benjamins down, slot this AeroSystem One next to your IKEA furniture, and <em>then</em> continue to play those low bit rate tracks -- it should drive'em nuts. Designed with a decidedly anti-regressive approach to sound quality, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/22/jean-michel-jarre-designed-ipod-speakers-hit-france/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Jarre's</a> lamp-like audiophile rig is the Lady Liberty of digital music, accepting not only all generations of Apple's iPods and iPhones, but also tunes recorded in any digital format. The stainless steel and toughened glass-made sound system, measuring about three and a half feet tall and weighing about 32lbs, pumps up those iTunes jams with the aid of two 30W satellite speakers and one 60W subwoofer. Oh, and that cost? Yeah, the sound of this music's gonna run you 799 Euros (or $1,135), but hey -- a month or three of ramen never hurt anybody. Right?<br />
<br />
[Thanks, Nick]

Services like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Spotify/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Spotify</a>, which had an anything but subtle launch <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/18/poll-spotify-is-finally-available-in-the-us-now-what/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">last week</a>, help solve the evergreen issue of limited local storage by streaming millions of tracks to your devices. But streaming services require cell reception to operate (unless you've elected to store music locally), and often carry monthly fees. We've spent a fair amount of time testing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/09/kingston-wi-drive-wireless-storage-for-ios-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Kingston's Wi-Drive</a>, which lets you access music, videos, and other files from a handful of devices simultaneously over WiFi -- assuming you've loaded that content to the portable media server's 16GB ($130) or 32GB ($175) of built-in storage. The device worked well during our review process earlier this month, and now you can pick up one of your own at sites like Amazon and Newegg, or at Fry's and J&amp;R US retail outlets. The server is likely to be a better fit for families than individuals simply looking to boost their iOS device storage, due to both price and capacity limitations, but if you need to stream media to several devices at once during your next road trip, for example, then the Wi-Drive may be worth the investment.

Throw in an HD movie, some TV episodes, hundreds of tracks and a few thousand photos, and you'll be chewing through those available bytes in no time. Most manufacturers compensate this limitation by including a microSD slot for additional storage, but not <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Apple/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Apple</a> -- you're stuck with that original capacity until you're ready to upgrade to a new device. Luckily, for those who need more storage <em>now</em> and don't mind paying for it, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/26/airstash-wireless-flash-drive-and-ios-app-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">AirStash</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/16/seagates-goflex-satellite-portable-hard-drive-streams-content-o/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Seagate's GoFlex Satellite</a>, and now Kingston's ultra-slim <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/01/kingston-wi-drive-wireless-storage-for-ios-preview-video/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Wi-Drive</a> allow you to boost gigs without upgrading, or switching to another platform. None of these pocket servers come without compromise, however -- you'll be spending over $100 for even the most basic option, while adding yet another device to your portable mix.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kingston-wi-drive-ios-media-server-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Kingston Wi-Drive iOS Media Server Review</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kingston-wi-drive-ios-media-server-review/4278857?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/07/2011-07-06-dsc07086_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kingston-wi-drive-ios-media-server-review/4278858?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/07/2011-07-06-dsc07087_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kingston-wi-drive-ios-media-server-review/4278859?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/07/2011-07-06-dsc07089_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kingston-wi-drive-ios-media-server-review/4278860?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/07/2011-07-06-dsc07090_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kingston-wi-drive-ios-media-server-review/4278861?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/07/2011-07-06-dsc07093_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p>
