Many people who have played Lord of the Rings Online will likely recognize the above location. No, it's not as iconic as Weathertop or some other places we could name, but it is a lovely location from the new player areas that offers a welcoming feel as well as a jumping-off point into the greater storyline of Middle-earth. Today, we have a screenshot of this locale courtesy of Kyler L., who writes in to tell us what inspired it: "I was out on a stroll through Archet when I decided to chill out at the Hunters Lodge after taking a nice swim in the lake nearby. I decided to take a picture just to show off how beautiful the graphics are in this game." Have you found a picturesque location in your MMO of choice? If so, why not share! We're always interested in seeing what players consider cool. Just email your image in to us here at oneshots@massively.com along with your name, the name of the game, and a description of what we're seeing. It could wind up as the next screenshot we feature here on One Shots! %Gallery-85937%

  • The Road to Mordor: Do-over! Do-over!

This past week I took a break from kowtowing to the haughty elves of Lothlórien and their super-secret elf club to start up a couple alts. It was ultimately a good decision, as I ended up both digging my new lore-master and getting to sample first-hand the many changes that Turbine made to the new player experience. In mega-patches like this recent one, revamping the starter experience tends to be overlooked by all. Unless they're itching to roll an alt -- like I am -- current players won't be on hand to witness the changes, and completely new players to the game lack the knowledge of how it used to be in order to appreciate how it's been improved. But unsung improvements or no, Turbine's done an excellent job of smoothing out an already-engaging lowbie journey with a startling number of tweaks. I certainly didn't expect there to be so many, but since I have done the 1-20 run umpteen times in the past few years, it felt like a breath of fresh air to me. So what's all sparkly and different? Is the road to Mordor paved with good decisions (see what I did there)? Reroll a baby-faced adventurer with me and hit the jump!

  • The Ranger Amdir featured in latest lorebook entry

Amdir, a Ranger found in the town of Archet, is the subject of an update to the Lord of the Rings Online lorebook. The Nazgûl entering the Shire seemed to cause an increase in the Blackwold brigand troubles in Bree-land, and so Amdir was sent to Archet to investigate. Here he attended to the problem of some missing Hobbits, and got himself deep into some nasty business because of it.He should be familiar to those whose adventure began in Archet, and he is featured in both the Hobbit and Man starting instances, as well as the Epic prologue quest for Bree-land. Without giving too much away, we'll say that he is very involved in this storyline. View the lorebook entry to see some of the quests he's involved with, and the map of his location.

In many ways, picking a race for yourself in an MMO is very much a personal choice. However it can help to have some tips and an overall viewpoint on the subject. This guide is here for old players or new players that are unsure of the the finer details of each race in Lord of the Rings Online. The goal isn't to answer the question of which race is best, but rather to give a few tips and some advice on the strong points of the races in Middle-earth. In this first part of our guide to help you choose your race in LotRO, we'll explore the races of both Man and Elf.Obviously if a player has their heart set on being any single race, this guide isn't going to change their mind. Even if you've already made up your mind on a race (or already chosen it), this guide could contain a couple helpful chunks of information.

  • LotRO Leveling Guide: Man and Hobbit in Archet

Lord of the Rings Online is a great game. It has been met with much acclaim and has managed to establish itself in an ever-growing field of MMOs that reside in the shadow of World of Warcraft. The game, however, is not without its critics and detractors. However, what they cannot deny is that LotRO manages to wrap itself comfortably in Tolkien's lore of Middle-earth. When first logging on to LotRO and presented with the choice of races, the one that arguably stands out the most would be the loveable (or loath-able) Hobbit. Elves, dwarves, men; been there done that. Hobbits, however, unique to Tolkien's imagination, offer a different experience. What I present to you is a guided tour through the first five levels of a Hobbit in Lord of the Rings Online. So, take your shoes off and get ready to blow some smoke rings. (Note: Massively.com does not condone nor endorse the smoking of anything ... real or fictional.)

Though this image, taken from the inside of a bear's mouth (notice the teeth), looks rather ominious, there's really nothing frightening in this image from Lord of the Rings Online. Taken in the Hunter's Lodge in Archet (the starting zone for both Human and Hobbit players), a creative camera angle has given us this bears-mouth view of the scene, as sent in by our own Dan O'Halloran.Do you have a collection of iconic images from your favorite game? Show us your unique look so we can feature it on our next edition of One Shots! Send your screenshots and stories to oneshots@massively.com. You may see it featured here tomorrow, same time, same place! %Gallery-9798%
