Looking at clothes to buy online can be therapeutic, but sometimes you just want to quickly find something to wear for an impromptu event without having to wade through thousands of choices. Asos is giving you a way to do that using Google Assistant -- you simply have to say "Hey Google, talk to Asos" to summon its shopping bot Enki through your smart speaker or the Assistant app on Android or iOS. You can then tell Enki what listings you'd like to see, like say, fleece cardigans for layering or the newest additions to the store.

Last August, retailer ASOS launched its Style Match tool in select markets. It lets users take a picture or upload an image -- whether it be a photo they've taken, a screenshot or something from a magazine -- and then search ASOS' products for clothing or accessories in that image. So for instance, if the shoes your favorite actor was wearing on their latest red carpet strike your fancy, you can take that image, tap the camera icon in the ASOS app search bar, upload the image, focus on the shoes and search. The app will bring up items ASOS sells that are similar to what you're looking for. Style Match has been largely limited to the UK so far, but today, ASOS is making Style Match available to all of its 16 million active customers on both iOS and Android.

Visual search is fast becoming a staple of shopping apps, and ASOS is the latest online retailer to welcome the feature. The UK-based online fashion giant has updated its iOS application with the ability to search for clothes and accessories using photos. Just click the new camera icon in the search box, and you'll be able to either upload a photo you saved on your Camera Roll or to take a picture of something you're looking at in real life. Adjust the image to focus on what item you want to look for, and you're set. I was able to take it for a spin in my little corner of the world here in Asia, so the feature is definitely already available outside the UK.

  • What you need to know about laser-cut clothing

You know the intricate, elegant, classic pattern found on your grandma's doilies? Imagine that design as an item of clothing. That is laser-cut design. Laser cutting used to be reserved for haute couture designs. But as consumers began lusting for the technique, and the technology was made more readily available to manufacturers, it's become commonplace to see laser-cut silk and leather in ready-to-wear runway collections. Where the runway goes, affordable fashion typically follows: You can now find laser-cut clothing sold by fast fashion retailers like Topshop and ASOS. And that's just for starters.
