Welcome to Joystiq Weekly, a "too long; didn't read" of each week's biggest stories, reviews and original content. Each category's top story is introduced with a reactionary gif, because moving pictures aren't just for The Daily Prophet. Oh wow, look at that scenic view from every retail store in the United States! Hopefully everyone survived Black Friday, an annual, nationwide recreation of that Lion King stampede scene where customers are unwavering bringers of death and retail employees are terrified reincarnations of Simba. We understand the thought process though – cheap video games and consoles are awesome! While you're mending your wounds, whether they were sustained physically or through your wallet, you can catch up on the past week's worth of prominent news with the Joystiq Weekly. News of free vouchers for Vita owners, free games for Assassin's Creed: Unity season pass owners, reviews of Assassin's Creed Rogue and Tales from the Borderlands, a spoken tale of a staff member's first journey to obtain The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and more is all waiting for you after the break!

  • Assassin's Creed Rogue review: Avast ye, clone!

PS3, Xbox 360 Here are just some of the things you can do in Assassin's Creed Rogue: climb a tower, hunt a whale, hide in a haystack, steer a ship in a storm, stick a sword through a man's eye socket, air-assassinate a fox, fight off a boarding party. If the opening of this review sounds mostly familiar, it's because it was mostly copied from our review of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. This was done to illustrate a point: If you're looking to Rogue to bring something fresh to the table, keep pillaging elsewhere. Assassin's Creed Rogue is essentially a clone of Black Flag's setting and systems. If you can accept rampant copy-and-paste in another full priced entry, you'll more than likely enjoy what Assassin's Creed Rogue has to offer.

  • CoD: Advanced Warfare sees off big names to retain UK No. 1

It's that time of year when big-name franchises chuck lengthily-titled entries onto shelves, and the games with the longest names prevail. This week, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare kept top spot in the UK charts, holding off the likes of Assassin's Creed: Unity, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor and Fédération Internationale de Football Association 15 - or FIFA 15 for short. While the latest CoD is king of the sea for the second week running, there are interesting details throughout the UK top ten. For example: The split for UK physical sales of Assassin's Creed: Unity was 52 percent PS4, 46 percent Xbox One and 2 percent PC. Halo: The Master Chief Collection notched the biggest UK launch for a first-party Xbox One game. If you include all publishers i.e. all Xbox One games, it came in 7th. Minecraft Vita hit British retail shelves and scored the third biggest launch for any game on the portable, only behind Uncharted: Golden Abyss and FIFA Football. You'll find more on this week's UK charts below the break, including the top ten and the oft-ignored but stubbornly customary music video

Acrobatic murder, rampant slow motion effects and evil Britons pouring out of the woodwork. If you had any doubts that Assassin's Creed: Rogue is, in fact, an Assassin's Creed game, this all-too-familiar launch trailer should clear things right up. [Image: Ubisoft]

Welcome to Joystiq Weekly, a "too long; didn't read" of each week's biggest stories, reviews and original content. Each category's top story is introduced with a reactionary gif, because moving pictures aren't just for The Daily Prophet. As the Smash Bros. and Halo series have taught us, stopping the action to play around with in-game cameras can be oddly compelling (and gleefully annoying to rivals/co-op partners). If The Last Of Us: Remastered and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor's inclusion of similar features are the start of a trend, we'd welcome it with open shutter arms. Repositioning the camera for the perfect shot of an epic summon in Final Fantasy 15? Showcasing the full scope of a crazy moment in the time-defying Quantum Break? Yes please! There was plenty more to this week than snapping photos of an orc squadron's downfall though – Halo: The Master Chief Collection is expected to have a ~20GB day one patch, there were reviews for The Evil Within, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Bayonetta 2, and we got a full-frame perspective of publisher Devolver Digital. Check all that out and more after the break!

Assassin's Creed series sequel Assassin's Creed Rogue is coming to PC platforms in addition to previously announced ports for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, publisher Ubisoft revealed today in the trailer above. Rogue follows up on the storyline introduced in last year's Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, featuring a similar setting and expanded naval combat mechanics. Rogue accompanies the upcoming launch of Assassin's Creed Unity, a separate game premiering this year for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Assassin's Creed Rogue debut on November 11, 2014. Ubisoft reports that the PC version is slated to launch in "early 2015." [Image: Ubisoft]

Through two galleries of upcoming Assassin's Creed entries - the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3-bound Assassin's Creed: Rogue, and the new-generation Assassin's Creed: Unity - two things remain constant: Everyone is unrealistically attractive given the hygiene standards of the period, and somebody wearing an unruly number of belt buckles is going to stab somebody else in the neck. • Assassin's Creed Rogue is a next-gen rebel for Xbox 360, PS3

We're sure you can make up your own mind on why Assassin's Creed Rogue is only coming to Xbox 360 and PS3. Nonetheless, we wanted to know what Ubisoft had to say on it. After all, Rogue's story is meant to bridge the gap between Assassin's Creed 3 and Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, and the latter of those games came to PS4 and Xbox One. And both, of course, came to PC and Wii U. "Well, the Kenway saga that began with Assassin's Creed 3 and continued with Assassin's Creed 4 was largely told on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360," Associate Producer Karl Luhe told Joystiq at Gamescom. "So for us it made complete sense to finish that saga there. For next-gen players we built Assassin's Creed Unity from the ground up to make best use of that new technology, and that's where next-gen players are going to play Assassin's Creed."

Ubisoft will launch Assassin's Creed Rogue for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 later this year, a Game Informer cover story revealed today. Though it will debut alongside Assassin's Creed Unity for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Assassin's Creed Rogue is a completely different game. Featuring a story that takes place during the Seven Years' War, Rogue puts players in control of a former Assassin who has since switched allegiances and joined up with the Templars. Rogue's gameplay will revisit the naval combat mechanics previously featured in Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, and its story spans an 18th-century New York, the Appalachian River Valley, and the North Atlantic Ocean. Rogue's narrative serves to bridge the gap that separates Assassin's Creed 3 and Black Flag. [Update: Assassin's Creed Rogue will launch in North America on November 11, 2014.] [Image: Ubisoft]
