  • Dress your Avatar in Bungie finery for charity

Bungie is a company that hardly needs any more exposure on Xbox Live, and Avatar clothing is something that hardly needs to be purchased by anyone, but exceptions can be made for good causes! In honor of the developer's 20th anniversary, it's made new Bungie logo t-shirts available on the Avatar Marketplace for both male and female avatars. The proceeds from the 80 Microsoft Point ($1) purchase go to "charity" -- none is specified, but we would assume it's Bungie's own Foundation, which gives pre-loaded iPads to children's hospitals. If you'd like to interact with Bungie in a more violent manner, the team is playing Halo: Reach all day (it's "Bungie Day") and giving away steaks. [Thanks, David from Berkeley]

  • Make your Avatar look Diesel (save lots of money)

Diesel now has an "apparel collection" available for Avatars through the Xbox Live Marketplace. The designs are based on the company's spring/summer 2010 collection, with t-shirts costing 80 ($1) and a pair of jeans for 160 ($2). Diesel plans to update the collection every season so that, in the company's words, "now, more than ever, you have the ability to dress your Avatars according to your personal style and taste." Now, let's play a game: The Avatar in the back, second from the left is wearing "Viker 8A7" jeans. If you think paying $2 for some pre-cut jeans on your Avatar is silly, take a guess how much those jeans cost in real life? (See the answer after the break.) We might normally scoff at the array of Xbox Live Avatar clothing being made available for Band Hero – a near ubiquitous occurrence with game releases for the Xbox 360 these days. Not today though, friends. Nope, today we have the opportunity to get our Avatar a totally rad, Say Anything style boombox. We know, we know – finally. For the low, low price of 240 ($3), you too can be as cool as Lloyd Dobler (though there's no promise of landing a lady as fine as Diane Court with said item). We suppose you could pick up the other stuff too, available for 80 ($1) to 240 ($3), if you're into that kinda thing. You could get a microphone or a shirt or a ... just get the boombox, alright? You don't wanna end up being given a pen and getting told how "valuable the friendship" is, do you? Hmm?

You're in a business. Your business has a presence in Second Life. In your business, you have two furries, three hot vixens who probably belong in a strip club, the token emo goth guy, and the dude who made his avatar just like his real world self. Everyone's happy with how they look and how they represent the company, right?Well, according to the analysts at Gartner Inc., the winds of change might be blowing through virtual companies. The analysts are saying that over 70% of all virtual companies will end up adopting avatar dress codes by the end of 2013, in a move to look more professional and focused. While avatar dress codes aren't the best option in the world, we too understand that some level of conformity in virtual business is needed. Of course this all depends on the business, as more independent companies can take a looser stance on dress codes. But, in a world where you can be literally anything, you might want to add some level of professionalism to your business avatar.

  • NFL jerseys hit Avatar Marketplace, wallets

Is everybody ready for some pricey Avatar football jerseys? Microsoft hopes you are, having launched men's and women's tops for all 32 NFL teams at 320 ($4) a pop on the Avatar Marketplace. Just for comparison, national soccer (or football for most of the world) jerseys are ... oh, that's right, they're free. Most licensed game shirts sell for 80 ($1). We can only imagine the extra $3 in this case gets divided up between the NFL, the teams, EA and the Coalition for Expensive Avatar Clothing. It wouldn't be quite so bad if purchasers could actually pick their jersey number, instead of feeling like a total zero.

Some brand new clothing options have appeared on Xbox Live Marketplace. Dubbed the 'Urban Culture' collection, the clothes range from loose fitting jeans to sweet hats to golden pumps. There's also a nifty shirt with what appears to be a pair of "Kanye" shades hanging around the neck. They range in price from 80 ($1) to 240 ($3) and are available right now. [Via @MajorNelson]

If you're in attendance at PAX 2009, make sure to head over to Microsoft's special Xbox table on the 4th floor of the North lobby and grab a redemption code for a free Xbox Avatar PAX shirt. Supplies are limited, but Microsoft will be handing out codes from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Pacific) on Saturday, in case you missed today's giveaway rounds. Sure, it isn't as awesome as proclaiming your D&D skills ... but it's a great way to make your online friends jealous that you made it to the sold-out Seattle event.

Even if you can't make it out to Seattle for the Penny Arcade Expo this weekend, you can show some solidarity with the new selection of Penny Arcade gear that's now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace for a buck per shirt. In addition to the stars' trademark looks, you'll also find some clothing inspired by the strip's secondary characters. Also, just FYI, we came up with a pretty hilarious gag about PAX standing for Penny Arcade eXploitation that we weren't able to work in. All apologies. [Thanks, Jimmcq]

Microsoft is bringing back bad '80s fashion, as the Avatars can now accessorize with "shutter shades." Oh Microsoft, we're supposed to forget bad fashion, not endorse it -- like the socks and sandals option. Major Nelson did announce these ocular accessories on Monday, but due to an issue, the pieces weren't available until late yesterday. Check out the list of eye coverings after the break.
