Ronimo Games has shared this video on the first anniversary of its latest title Awesomenauts, featuring a look at all of the game's iterations over its history. From early alpha builds to the release version and then the various skins and updates, you can watch the awesomeness increase in front of your eyes. Ronimo promises more is coming to the world of Awesomenauts. Update 1.18 is currently in testing, and it will add a balance overhaul and a Leon Pirate skin into the game that will replace all of that character's audio. Admiral Swiggins, the winning character from the "Design Your Own Awesomenaut" contest, is also set to release soon.

Awesomenauts' patch 1.17, now available on Steam, adds two new skins and a map called Aiguillon, which is the French word for "Sting." We're not sure why a map dedicated to a great English songwriter is outfitted with a stealth orb powerup and lots of insect imagery, but -- wait. We just got it.

  • Ronimo Games considering crowdfunding for Awesomenauts content

Awesomenauts developer Ronimo Games is considering a crowdfunding approach to make its next project a reality. The developer self-published Awesomenauts on Steam in August 2012, and has since offered a number of updates and extra content for the PC version of the game.Though the developer's next project is "not Awesomenauts 2," it does have ambitions to expand on Awesomenauts. "There are some bigger features that we want to try to do, but we don't have the capacity to really do that right now," Ronimo Games co-founder Jasper Koning told Joystiq during PAX East.Crowdfunding extra content has lead to success before, most recently in the case of a successful Indiegogo campaign to bring new characters to Skullgirls. The campaign reached its $150,000 goal in less than 24 hours. As seen with Lab Zero Games, the costs for creating new content for its fighting game made the goal a reasonable one to obtain. Likewise, Ronimo Games has added four characters and a number of maps to Awesomenauts in the game's lifetime, and has offered that content to Steam players for free. Not every piece of additional Awesomenauts content is free, as the developer sells character skins. Without revealing any specific numbers, Koning told Joystiq the "skins do very well, we're not getting really rich off of it, but well enough for us."

Ronimo Games is demoing a new level for Awesomenauts called Aiguillon at PAX East. The level takes inspiration from the game's character Leon, as it features a power-up that grants Leon's stealth ability to whoever grabs it first. Ronimo tells Joystiq that the map will undergo a closed beta phase before being released in two weeks on Steam.Awesomenauts will also receive two new characters, one of which is currently in production. The other character will be the result of a community survey on Facebook, which gives fans a chance to see their character designs in the game.

Ronimo Games introduced its 13th character to Awesomenauts, and his name is Genji. Genji is one of the last living Entin, a caterpillar-like monk "on a pilgrimage to restore his faith in the great space butterfly."He is also a support character that specializes in "shielding allies and banishing enemies." Ronimo tells us that Genji is being put through testing in closed beta, along with a sizable balance overhaul for the game, so there's no specific date for when the character will join the rest of the Awesomenauts crew. The official site for the game lists him as a Steam exclusive, though. %Gallery-179192%

  • Minecraft Creepers (sorta) invade Awesomenauts

Look, Creepers are dangerous enough on their own – people don't need to be going around giving them powered suits of armor like Ronimo Games has done in its latest Awesomenauts update, which is now live on Steam. Well, technically it's not a Creeper, but rather a Creeper skin for existing 'naut Clunk. Still, creepers shouldn't have a role model like this to look up to.The Creeper Clunk skin can only be acquired by finding someone wearing it in-game and killing them, thus becoming "infected" with it. Since the skin can't be bought or obtained otherwise, we expect that equipping it will be somewhat akin to painting a giant bullseye on your chest. Which is how it should be, honestly, since all Creepers deserve to die.All Creepers deserve to die.%Gallery-177099%

This year's Steam Holiday Sale is winding down, but there's still four more days to practice self-restraint or give into full PC purchasing indulgence. There's still four hours to grab Deus Ex: Human Revolution for $5. There's also deep discounts on indie favorites The Binding of Isaac and Terraria at $1.49 and $3.39, respectively. Alan Wake's entire very bad vacation is also on sale for $9.99.As for the deals you'll have a little more time to contemplate: Torchlight, Max Payne, Transformers and Total War franchises are all 50 to 75 percent off. The underappreciated Awesomenauts is $3.39, which is a great 2D arena game if you've got some friends to practice with over the holiday.

Awesomenauts is available on Mac today, making it cross-play compatible on Steam. So if you already purchased the game on Windows and for some reason want to play it on Mac instead, have at it. To celebrate the Mac port, Awesomenauts is on sale right now for 25% off through Steam, a mere $7.49 until December 10. We'd never dare tell you what to do, but if you were going to spend $7.49 on a video game, we'd like to think you'd choose a good one.

Awesomenauts is free this weekend on Steam, now through Sunday at 1 p.m. PT, and yes, that's pretty awesome. Anyone who plays for a while and ends up agreeing with this assessment, Awesomenauts will also be half off all weekend, through Monday, November 19.Awesomenauts has kept up a steady stream of updates and new character additions since its launch on August 1, including the sniper Raelynn, the vomitous Gnaw and Skolldir, the overweight space viking. Check out all the characters Awesomenauts has to offer this weekend, for free, on Steam.

Version 1.8 of Awesomenauts will be released on PC next week, bringing with it a brand new character and some Halloween content. The new character, Raelynn, relies on her faithful pulse rifle, Cuddles, to deal out the bulk of her damage. Her special abilities include deployable cover and what sounds like a pretty devastating sniper shot. According to her description, the snipe ability is "able to zap any target over great distances, the resulting beam will take out most of the surroundings along with the target." Ouch.1.8 also includes new Halloween content, which will redecorate the Awesomenauts arenas with spider webs and Jack-o'-lanterns. Spooky.

In addition to the recent 1.8.2 update for the Xbox Live version of Minecraft, there's even more content showing up soon. Specifically, a third character skin pack is set to come to the popular sandbox game. Like the first two packs, this one will contain quite a few new skins for Minecraft characters from other media, including content based on the Half-Life series and Awesomenauts. Sure, you could dig a hole as a dwarf, but why do that when you could do the same thing as a headcrab zombie? There's no information yet, unfortunately, on when the update or the skin pack are coming out; both still need to finish going through Microsoft's certification system. But we'll expect to hear from Mojang and Microsoft as soon as the skins are ready for purchase -- probably in just a few days from now.

Okay, so technically Voltar won't be more omniscient (is that even possible?), but he will be getting a nice buff in the Awesomenauts 1.4 update. Specifically, his healbot is getting a nice buff.Furthermore, Coco will pick up some new upgrades, including a "blaze" effect for her lightning ball and homing electricity particles for her shock attack. The latter looks particularly nasty, dealing lots of damage up close.Patch 1.4 will be released next week.

Today packs a double dose of news for Awesomenauts on PC. First and foremost, the previously announced new character, Gnaw, is now available via a free update. Gnaw features abilities such as gross, biological turrets and nasty, noxious vomit.Developer Ronimo Games has also implemented a novel anti-cheating measure, a special "league" just for cheaters. The gist of it is pretty simple: Get caught cheating and you will be entered into a matchmaking system populated exclusively by other cheaters. Regular readers will recognize the system as similar to Max Payne 3's "Cheater Pool." Ronimo wishes all of the league's new members "GG."

  • Bringing PC Awesomenauts characters to console is up to publisher, says Ronimo

    08.13.2012

After announcing a new character for the PC version of Awesomenauts almost immediately after launch, we asked developer Ronimo Games if the console versions would receive the character as well. "We're all for it and ready to do it," Ronimo's Jasper Koning tells Joystiq, "but it's up to the publisher of the console version, DTP." He added that the developer has "no concrete plans right now, but we're very hopeful."The cost-prohibitive nature of updates on consoles – the Xbox 360 in particular – has been well publicized, especially given the recent drama surrounding Fez' latest patch, which has the potential to corrupt save files and which developer Polytron will never fix. Also, while Ronimo is hopeful that the new character, Gnaw, will hit the console versions of Awesomenauts, history paints a grim picture of the possibility. Both Monday Night Combat and Dungeon Defenders, for example, have seen numerous updates and pieces of downloadable content on PC, while the PSN and XBLA versions have seen few updates, if any.

The PC version of Awesomenauts has barely been out for a week, and developer Ronimo has already announced its first new character. In an update coming "very soon," Gnaw will join the rest of the Awesomenauts. According to Ronimo Gnaw is "a dirty doglike creature who likes to bite and spit poisonous ooze on his foes." The new trailer (above) shows off some biting maneuvers, stationary turrets and some rather caustic-looking vomit. Gross.Gnaw will be playable at Valve's booth during Gamescom this year, so we'll be sure to check him out. In the meantime, we've contacted Ronimo to find out if Gnaw will be coming to the console versions as well.%Gallery-162174%

The devious developers behind Awesomenauts seem to have hidden an adorable mini-game within the files of its recent Steam release, tipsters discovered. Deep within the folders of the PC release is ROFLnauts, a retro, Smash Bros.-style brawler from Super Crate Box designer Jan Willem Nijman and artist Paul Veer.Accessing the bonus is simple: go to the "SteamApps" directory within the Steam folder on your hard drive. Click through the folder labeled "Common" to find the Awesomenauts directory. ROFLnauts can be found within the Data folder. A few clicks later and you've got your hands on a cute, combative bonus game.[Thanks, Patrik]
