'Badman' character tweet hints at possible NGP title
We've never admitted to actually understanding anything about the game once known as Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do To Deserve This? (though we do admit to enjoying it), and so it's probably no surprise that we don't understand the Twitter account associated with the game either. Not only is it in Japanese, but it's supposed to be an in-character account created by the Lord of Destruction -- and we have no idea what he's talking about anyway. But we do recognize the letters "NGP," as seen in this tweet, and a later tweet says that the developers are working on a new game in the "soup shoot zone." Presumably, that means we'll see a Badman interation on the PSP's successor, coming soon. Then again, not only is this Twitter account unverified, but let's not forget this is Satan we're talking about. He's not exactly the type to be trusted anyway.
Holy trademark, NIS! 'Badman' games to be renamed [update]
What did I do to deserve this, my lord!? That is both the question on NIS America's mind and the new title of its series, once known as Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! The publisher announced that it's changing the name of the Acquire-developed action-strategy game in response to "a conflict of interest with an existing IP." We're guessing the trademark issue in question is with a certain comic book franchise owned by Warner Bros. -- Plastic Man, obviously. This week has not been kind to NIS. Just yesterday, the Japanese parent company reported a 95 percent drop in profits, and now the American branch has to change the name of one of its franchises midstream. May 4 is the new release date for what is now called What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? 2. [Update: May is indeed a new release date for the game: it was originally slated for March.]
Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman 2! to include prequel! For free!
Did you miss the first release of Holy Invasion of Privay, Badman!? Don't worry if you did, because it appears NIS America is readying a spectacular bonus for the upcoming sequel. According to an Amazon.com listing, the "complete original game [is] included for free." Yep, it's two games for the price of one, and who doesn't like a promo like that? It's unclear if this bonus will apply only to the UMD version of the game, or if the PSN version will also benefit. Considering how often PSP Go owners have been screwed, we wouldn't be surprised if the digital release arrived late with no discount and no prequel bonus. [Via Siliconera]
NIS America wants to bring Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! to UMD
The historical preservationists at NIS America are attempting to save the increasingly endangered beast known as the "Universal Media Disc." You probably haven't heard of the format -- your parents most assuredly have. Though we currently live in an age of incorporeal digital software, the developer is attempting to re-release its eccentric dungeon dive, Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do to Deserve This? in a limited edition UMD format -- provided enough PSP owners show interest in owning a tangible copy of the game. If over 1,000 supervillains-in-training pre-order the UMD version of Badman by November 13, NIS will go through with actually producing them, shipping out to their respective buyers in mid-December. Seems like it'll be a tough putt -- but we're sure there's 1,000 fans of both obscure strategy games and tiny, plastic-armored discs tucked away in some pocket in the internet.
Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman 2! Time to Tighten Up Security! -- the trailer
At Tokyo Game Show 2009, NIS America took the time to announce a few new games for Western release. Amongst them was the sequel to Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman!. The retro-themed anti-hero game comes equipped with 4 times more stages, 3.3 times more monsters and 2.3 times more heroes than the first game. The hilarious sort-of-localized trailer makes note that creatures at your disposal can also mutate through deformity, obesity and gigantism.Most likely, the Badman sequel will skip UMD and head straight to PSN release. Makes sense, considering the bite-sized nature of the game. But if for some reason you insist on having plastic packaging, go to the PlayStation.Blog to tell NIS that you really want a UMD version of the first game.
TGS 2009: NIS America announces Badman 2, Atelier Rorona
During a lunch event conveniently located both near TGS proper and extremely near our hotel (so near, in fact, that it was in it), NIS America announced two new games for PlayStation systems. Atelier Rorona, the latest in Gust's Atelier RPG series (and recently confirmed for Europe), will be released in North America in summer of 2010, and the sequel to the improbably-titled Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do to Deserve This? will be released for PSP in North America in early 2010. We guess the title didn't hurt sales too much!NIS didn't have assets at the moment, but we were able to find screenshots through the magic of remembering that the game came out in Japan last year.
Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida 3D coming to Japan, in two dimensions
When we saw that Sony had announced Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida 3D, the second sequel to Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman!, we got really excited. As you may know, the third dimension makes everything better, from WipEout HD to the JoBros. Unfortunately, as this trailer reveals, the "3D" in the game's title simply refers to having three dungeons. Oh.While, at first glance, this latest addition to the surprisingly successful Yuusha franchise may look remarkably similar to previous iterations, 3D promises new monsters and a new water mechanic. Perhaps you'll be able to drown any potential heroes that come your way?This sequel is planned for release in the 201X time frame. We're pretty certain there's no year called 201X ... unless Sony knows something about the future that we don't.
Holy Invasion of Privacy Badman coming to Europe next month
It took some time, but the all-digital, all-quirky Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Ever Do to Deserve This? will finally be coming to the European PlayStation Network for PSP next month. A free demo will be available on September 3rd, while the full game will (presumably) be available later.The retro-styled downloadable game got mixed reviews when it debuted in the US last month. Gamervision's review sums it best: "It isn't for everyone - it's in a genre of its own, halfway in-between an RPG, a simulation, and a tower defense." Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! becomes a download-only game
There are multiple reports (on IGN and Siliconera) of pre-orders being canceled for NIS America's upcoming PSP game, Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Ever Do to Deserve This?. When we contacted NIS America for comment, the publisher noted that "the game will be coming out," but didn't provide specifics. Today, we can report that Badman will be releasing exclusively as a PlayStation Network download for $19.99. Considering the unique pick up and play nature of Badman, coupled with the upcoming digital-only PSP Go, it makes a lot of sense why Badman will release as a downloadable title.While Badman makes sense as a downloadable title, we're a little surprised that the UMD version had to be canned. NIS America told us that "we wanted to make UMD for it, but Sony doesn't allow dual release (UMD & PSN) until Oct. 1st. We are super bummed about it!" Quite possibly the best title for a video game ever conceived, Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do to Deserve This? will be arriving in the US this July. The retro-styled action game has you going against those pesky "heroes" in a Overlord-esque adventure to reign as the best anti-hero in the world. This trailer should give you a pretty good idea on how it plays.Although the game has a very simple look and feel, it's getting a full UMD release this summer. Perhaps NIS America would like to consider a PlayStation Network release as well? Badman looks like it would be a perfect fit for digital distribution.%Gallery-63011%
NIS reveals Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! for PSP
Oh, so this is what that bizarre trademark was about. NIS has just revealed a new PSP game called Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do to Deserve This? via the PlayStation.Blog. This is a heavily localized version of Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida, a mix between Dig Dug and Dungeon Keeper. You must protect the villain, Badman, from the approaching do-gooders who want him dead. In order to do this you'll need to dig around, create monsters and keep balanced the delicate Demon Ecosystem. Sounds intriguing to us!We're not sure we're going to truly understand the game until we see it in action, but until then you can check out a bunch of confusingly mysterious screenshots in our gallery. It sounds like it won't be too long before the game is out, with a demo being made available on the PSN Store "soon." Sony registers trademark: 'Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman!'
Would you buy a game called Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman!? We would. This trademark, discovered by superannuation, was filed by SCEI less than a week ago. Unfortunately, the additional information section of the listing features the rather unhelpful "NOT AVAILABLE." We don't think we'll see anything come from this trademark soon, but it will be hilarious when it eventually comes to fruition.
