Michael Gray is feeling a little under the weather, so I've kidnapped his column. He can have it back in exchange for his puppy. Moving on, we've got one of the winners of the Alienware Rise to Power contest who's name should be familiar -- Baron Soosdon, who's delightful works such as T for Thunderfury, No Point: Stretching Time, and Sex, Gnomes And Videotape: So I Went To France have been featured before here on WoW Moviewatch. World of Gnomecraft 2.0 is another solid addition to his stable of machinima videos, and honestly, it's no wonder it was a winner. World of Gnomecraft 2.0 is presented as a movie trailer of sorts about... well, gnomes. Gnomes that have had enough. That's really all I am going to say so as not to give anything away. This is quite possibly the most gnomes I have ever, ever seen in a machinima. Whether this is a good or a bad thing, I haven't decided yet -- but the whole piece had me cracking up about thirty seconds in. I could not stop giggling. There was no voice work to speak of, just the music and the text -- so let me point out, I love fonts. I collect fonts. I want whatever font he was using in this thing, and I am surprised I don't have it yet. Typography geeking aside, the video itself was simply fun to watch. The effects were clean and smooth, the transitions were well done, the music went remarkably well with the subject material, and it had every ounce of visual flair I've come to expect from Baron Soosdon. Plus, gnomes -- and a cameo from King Varian Wrynn that had me in stitches. Congrats to Baron Soosdon on his prize -- he earned it. P.S. Dear Baron, do you give lessons? I want to make pretty things. I may have a puppy to trade when Michael gets back!* *I won't really have a puppy. :( Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! T for Thunderfury is the epic tale of Baron Soosdon's quest to get Thunderfury for his paladin. When he finally managed this epic feat, needless to say, there was a party. This video has a similar epic, awesome feel to many of Soosdon's videos. And while it's not technically a machinima, I still enjoyed the camera work and music. Soosdon's just kind of got that flair, and could probably find ways to make an entertaining movie out of a watermelon in a bucket. Congratulations to the good Baron on accomplishing this feat. Make sure to watch all the way through -- there's a special Christmas shout-out at the end. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Warning: This video is not safe for work. It's not only got a heavy amount of cursing in the subtitles, but it's also called Sex, Gnomes and Videotape. You should kind of expect that subject matter to be meaningful. The good Baron Soosdon has released his latest work, Sex, Gnomes and Videotape: So, I Went To France. As the story goes, Olibith invited the good Baron to a gnome event on the French roleplay realm, Kirin'Tor. The Baron made a machinima documentary, highlighting his exploits as he went to the event. This feels like a departure from the Baron's usual work, but it's one I welcome. I loved the exploratory feel, and his narration felt incredibly vibrant and humorous. I had a little trouble picking out his satirical dialogue from just normal comedy dialogue. But, I ultimately believe that the best satire works that way anyway, so that's probably for the best. The video has a lot of the Baron's unmistakeable visual flair. It's a lot of fun, and I continue to be an unabashed Baron Soosdon fan boy. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Note: Not everything in this video is safe for work.Olibith's Never Stay Tuned series is more than just a collection of videos. The original series has come to be an institution, filled with fun, glory, and legend! Olibith has created the finest collection of parody and culture references in the machinima world. He's now back with the last installment Never Stay Tuned 4.The guest list featured in Never Stay Tuned 4 is a wonderful nod to the work Olibith has done. You'll see work by Baron Soosdon, Ian Beckman, the AFK pl@yers, Pinkhair, and Goldskin. Each has brought unique aspect to the work, and the vast collaboration has created something epic. You'll probably recognize the unique styles, but there's an itemized credit at the end. Never Stay Tuned 4 was as hilarious as the first ones in the series. Now, if you didn't like those previous videos, then chances are that the fourth installment won't radically change your mind. There's quite a few jokes and gags in the video that are a little rough or tawdry, and a few spots of nudity and violence, which will also affect your opinion. The entire video is incredibly well done, with absolutely amazing graphic work. Go to the effort to check it out, but take your time do so: the video clocks in over 18 minutes. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! As a note, if you're having trouble viewing this video through the stream, there are many more viewing options at the good Baron's blog. I highly recommend downloading the HD options for best experience.I first got word a few days ago. A small wisp of warning, a whisper that today's big news was coming. Time passes, days go by. Then, yesterday, a heads up sent by Selserene (whom I thank vastly for the message). Then, a promotional message on the front of one of my favorite sites, Myndflame. And, finally, a link! Confirmation! It was true my friends -- the good Baron Soosdon has released his 30 minute masterpiece, No Point: Stretching Time. Now, I feel that me reviewing Baron Soosdon is a little like a college newspaper fantasy columnist trying to review Peter Jackson, but I'll share my thoughts on his new movie.

  • WoW Moviewatch: To Home for Christmas

Even Blood Elves want to come home for Christmas. For today's Movie Watch we present Baron Soosdon's depiction of a Paladin's epic journey through the Borean Tundra to be with his family. This video was created as the producer's entry to the WeGame Christmas machinima contest of 2008.As always, the images are crisp and visually stunning. Watching the video we get a nice tour of the Borean Tundra. There is very little action in this clip, more or less just one quick fighting scene during the opening credits. Aside from a couple of NPC interactions, the video is mostly a Paladin riding around. Emotes have a limited capacity to capture the true emotions of homecoming. I think Baron Soosdon did as good a job as he could, but I felt a little bit let down. The end should be heartwarming but it's just kind of there. If you're making your own epic journey this Christmas season, slow down and be safe. It's nasty out there.

Baron Soosdon is one of the biggest names in WoW machinima out there, and is an author we've featured on WoW Insider any number of times. He's been involved in just about every style machinima, from music-video to story-based films. Today we feature his work Raid Together, Die Alone 2. The good Baron's created this homage of Burning Crusade raid bosses. All the footage was created between May 2008 and November 2008 and the raids themselves were conducted by the guilds Beastro and Beyond Oblivion. You can find them on the Twilight Hammer (EU) server. And while it is basically a retrospective of the raid boss fights, the Baron obviously covers it with the same style and panache he brings to all his work. As the Baron himself warns, though, be sure to watch through the end. There's an easter egg at the end of the film that you won't want to miss. Click here to see the movie! Now that Baron Soosdon has landed a comfy job as Community Manager at Machinima.com, he has time to make lots of movies -- or trailers, at least! His next project is a cross-game video, Kake Buk Island, using World of Warcraft and Unreal Tournament 2004. There is an extensive list of guest voice actors tied to the project, including Drewbie (Insert cameo joke here!), Olibith, Tuesday Smith, and Vilaeryn. Since this movie seems to have a plot, yet he doesn't describe it to us, let's make one up for him![Thanks, Baron!]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

It looks like Fishface went a little filter-happy this weekend. He created Streamline, a short music video based on the Pendulum song by the same name. As Baron Soosdon said on the video page, it would be a lot better if the cuts were in sync with the music. In addition, the L70ETC band didn't really fit in with the type of music that he used.Otherwise, I found it to be enjoyable. There's not much of a plot to go on, so just sit back and enjoy the billions of color filters that he applied. If you liked Streamline, check out the high resolution version![Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch ...

From the WoW machinimator that brought you 300 Moonkins comes Voyage, a mixed-media adventure. Voodooray blended music, machinima, and clips from both music videos and real movies to create an alternate reality. In fact, it's so convincing that he had to post what he did to it for us to believe him!He included scenes from 300, Underworld, and two different music videos. In some of them, he even digitally removed the real actors! Look out for cameos by Salma Hayek, Baron Soosdon's Nikita, and a crazy looking bird.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch ...

Machinimators have quickly learned that if they want special 3D animations or sets done, Pinkhair is the man for the job. Previously known for his Warcraftmovies Christmas Spirit Contest entry that narrowly missed being in the top three, he has helped artists such as BaronSoosdon and Ian Beckman in his spare time.In honor of Olibith receiving double platinum on WCM for "I'm only sleeping", Pinkhair finished a timelapse of the saucy filmmaker using Lightwave. He has stated that if there is interest in learning how to do it, he may post a tutorial. If you would like to see a tutorial, join #machinima on Quakenet IRC and let him know! This next machinima, Shpongle - Once Upon the Time of Blissful Awareness, doesn't have the fancy WarcraftMovies intro, or even a thumbnail. It's no Baron or Yume, but what it does have is heart. It's a great first attempt. You can tell that bawavax tried his best, which is more than I can say for some first efforts. Aside from going a little effect happy in certain spots, I really enjoyed his use of Particle Illusion in various elements. Hopefully he'll refine his technique and come out with something even better soon![Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch ...

Awful things immediately ran through my head, so I was pleasantly surprised that Rock Rockin' Tha Spot wasn't that bad. Yes, there's some unsavory moments, but you'd really be missing out if you didn't watch.Baron is a Machinima master, skilled at making World of Warcraft look like an MTV video with a million dollar budget. He was able to finish this video much sooner because he used more in-game footage versus model viewer characters. However, with the way he blends colors and light, you can hardly even tell it's WoW anymore.[Via BaronSoosdon]View Rock Rockin' Tha Spot (NSFW) after the jump ...

Artists like Yume, the creator of Arithmomania, and Baron Soosdon are proving that you don't need a storyline to produce a quality machinima. With a heart pumping soundtrack provided by Dogzilla, Yume uses a variety of transitions and filters that would normally bog down a movie. Here, it all fits into place. You won't find much of a point to this video, but if looking upon the vast scenery of WoW makes you sentimental, you'll definitely enjoy it. The editing is right on target, and the filters are applied to coincide with the music. I'd have to say that my two favorite scenes involved the spinning stats, and the split screens that slowly moved in opposite directions. If you liked Arithmomania, definitely check out the high-res version.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch...

In an effort to become closer to the great paladin master, Shepiwot, Baron Soosdon has released his tutorial on "How to Boobadin" for your "Epixs Mount." It is 1 minute and 14 seconds of pure joy, set to the sweet sounds of the Guitar Hero soundtrack. Baron fans may notice that this is second time he has emulated his idol, with the first being "LOL, Lightwell."If you're not familiar with the "How to Paladin" series, by Shepiwot, it is about a seriously ADD paladin that finds himself in a variety of PvE situations. Throw in some death threats, out of control camera action, and text presets, and you've got a recipe for a seizure, or 25 ... Whose tutorials do you prefer?Previously on Moviewatch...

The fascinating things about Baron Soosdon's machinima is the way he tells us an entire story with images and editing rather than pages of dialog. I don't think I ever really understood the How to Paladin videos. I tended to watch them with a sort of morbid fascination, trying to glean some comprehension of their purpose and meaning -- obviously crucial to my understanding of the Paladin class. However, for Baron Soosdon's tribute to the series (seen above!), I can safely say has nothing whatsoever to teach you about the Priest class. It is, however, entertaining in the same way the original How to Paladin videos are.Previously on Moviewatch...

If you aren't familiar with the movie Sin City, this World of Warcraft recreation by Baron Soosdon should give you an idea of what to expect from the movie or comics. And my only question is... Gnomes? Of all things, Gnomes?! I suppose the female Gnome works best for the line about eyes, but somehow Gnomes don't speak to me of the atmosphere presented in the original.Previously on Moviewatch...
