Did you hear the news? Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare won Game of the Year on PS3 Fanboy. (Uncharted: Drake's Fortune won the reader's vote.) So, what did other major media outlets pick as their PS3 GOTY? We searched the web and found out. GameDaily chose Call of Duty 4. "The campaign excels where most of its competition fails, delivering a nail-biting experience we couldn't walk away from until the explosive finale." GameTrailers chose Call of Duty 4. "The authenticity on display here is to be commended, getting you as close as you can possibly be to something that far braver people experience--without the risk." GameSpot chose Call of Duty 4. "Modern Warfare is now the benchmark against which all console shooters will be judged, and we're not expecting it to be bettered anytime soon." GameSpy chose Call of Duty 4. "A game that hit every target it aimed for, from its gripping single-player campaign to the ridiculously addictive I've-almost-got-enough-XP-for-that-cool-gun multiplayer." IGN chose Uncharted. "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune serves as the culmination of fun gameplay, an immersive story, stunning graphics, superb sound and characters you can connect with." Looks like the critical mass agreed with us on the incredible power of Call of Duty 4. Did you enjoy the game as much as we did?

Did you hear the news? Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow won Game of the Year (and reader's vote) on PSP Fanboy. So, what did other major media outlets pick as their PSP GOTY? We searched the web and found out. GameSpot chose Puzzle Quest. "Puzzle Quest's bizarre (and bizarrely successful) confluence of gameplay mechanics really is precisely what makes it so addicting." GameSpy chose Final Fantasy Tactics. "Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions is arguably one of the best games put forth by Square Enix, with one of the better turn-based strategy gameplay systems yet developed." GameTrailers chose Final Fantasy Tactics. IGN chose Syphon Filter. "There's a reason why Logan's Shadow is the highest rated PSP title on our site: if you own the system, you owe it to yourself to experience one of the best titles ever made for a handheld." The winners for PSP awards are different across all the sites -- did one of your favorite games take home the gold?

  • Amazon best of 2007 lists include MBP, iPod Nano & Leopard

It's Amazon Day and nobody told me -- more news from Big Beige concerning Apple products, as the annual Best Of Amazon list was announced earlier. The MacBook & MacBook Pro topped two computer lists, as the most-gifted and most-loved computers respectively; meanwhile, the iPod Nano was the top electronics product both gifted and wished-for -- some karma alignment at work there. Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard made the most-loved list as the top software product evoking an emotional connection with users; this is unsurprising, although the relationship of some users to Leopard might be described by Dr. Phil as passive-aggressive.Interestingly, Apple products were absent from the actual best-sellers list (top software: Office 2007 Students & Teachers; top DVDs, Planet Earth complete series) despite the love-list and wishlist smackdown. Weirdly, the top computer item by total units sold for 2007 was the Nokia tablet, not exactly a computer (unless you count the iPhone too) and having a bit of sales leverage for being available 11 months out of the year.[via Engadget]

Stay tuned all this week as we reveal the our nominees for the very best games of 2007. Winners will be declared on December 27th.Every year, no matter what console you own, there are a few games that fall to the market with such a thud you feel your reputation for playing video games drop a little. Yes, these games damage everything we've come to support and whether the game itself is bad or suffered from a gigantic hype machine that everybody jumped on for no apparent reason, the games simply didn't do what we wanted. This award isn't for "worst" game of the year, no, but the biggest disappointment. The games that could have been something, but weren't. For all intents and purposes, this award could actually be construed as "worse" than the "worst".
